few questions about O2 XDA exec plz help - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

hi. got my exec a few days ago and have a few questions.
1. how can i set the alarm tone / new sms tone to something other than the default tones (notify,etc)? i can do it for ring tones but not for the others!
2. is there any software that keeps track of call duration, number of sent txt msgs etc?
3. BUGS: has anyone else experienced the following bugs and if so have u found a solution?
- did a hard reset and corporate install, overall much better performance but 9 times out of 10 the phone pad mode of input still doesnt work
- after the hard reset, the small battery indicator at the bottom right of the scren is there until u soft reset and then its permanently gone!
- windows media player's "full screen" is not full screen at all ..my mate's xda IIi doesnt have that problem
- the gif pictures dnt play! in fact the only way to see them is to send them via mms or transfer to computer! (again not the case in xda IIi)
thanx alot in advance

1. Copy your sound files to ther windows directory and it will see them for alerts other than ringtones.
2 -
3. The battery indicator at the bottom can be brought back with a registry edit or use a third party app
Media player won't play full screen- use the free player TCPMP (search for it)
Sure someone else will fill in the rest of the gaps!
Fin

thanx very much. any good easy to use registry editors u can recommend?

photo contacts and ringtone problems

I am experiencing problems with my Mp3 ringtones which have been assigned through photocontacts and are kept on my storage card.
For some reason it keeps defaulting back to the awful default ringtone, it cant be the size of the file because I have cut them down in size.
The thing is if I change it back and test it with a friend ringing me immediately then it works but if you leave it for a while the next time they ring it has defaulted back.
I keeping changing it back and it works for 10 minutes or so then defaults back to the original.
This is really annoying, has anyone else experienced these problems and been able to fix it?
thanks in advance.
i have this problem too.
Xda II Mini.. :?
Put your ringtones in \Storage instead of the card. The SD is too slow to start when the Magician is sleeping and the system can't find your ringtones.
Used to have this problem also. After keeping my tones in \Storage I've never had this problem again. I use WMA tones Stereo encoded at 96kbps.

I had this problem too...even if I have put the ringtones in Storage folder... I have solved the problem with downgrading the ROM from 1.06 to 1.03...but left the radio stack 1.05...now it works fine...the caller ID, but have some issues with answering the phone...

I have the exact same problem with mynew XDA IIi, although it has a standard ringtone assigning feature. None of the solutions seems to work. Any help, I'm really getting very frustrated with this problem!!!!
I have the same problem but with regards to the photo in the caller ID. I resolved this problem by usiung the old version of the Photo Contact Application.

Could you please be more specific wrt: "the Photo Contact Application". Where do I get it from, and how to install it on my XDA IIi?
I too have problem - for some reason the Caller ID app will not function at incoming call after a while. i've tried to determine if there is a specific app I'm using that is conflicting, but so far the results are inconclusive.
What also sucks about Photo Contacts is that there is no way to backup and restore your photo/ringtone assignments - this kind of software limitation is just not allowed in this century!

Hi mates, after doing the BigStorage thingie to my mini, and flashing it to 1.11.00 WWE, I have caller ID issues too!!
sometimes i get my predefined photos, and sometimes i don't!! i even set a default for all incoming calls, and sometimes it doesnt show too..
Then, i found 1.12 Caller ID CAB and installed it. System complained that some files exists and cannot be over-written. I note down the names, delete the existing files manually, and then redo the CAB install, and it doesnt complain. but i still have issues with photos that sometimes doesnt appear.
So, in this case, which version of CallerId should i downgrade to??
does my above method to install 1.12's Caller ID applies when i downgrade the caller-id??
thnx!!
Have u got PocketMusic installed?
I had that problem with PocketMusic , when i've uninstalled it i solved.

no pocket music. what i have for Today plugin is:
1) D25
2) TodayPlus
3) PhoneAlarm
my primary suspect is the BigStorage hack.. and the "new" 1.11.00 WWE ROM.
i need to know which old version of CallerID are you guys talking abt, so i can try and download it and test..
Ringtones
I also have the same problem. Unfortunately, i cannot link it to anything in particular as I have been tweaking mine since 2003SE was made available. I installed originally Sin's Rom and all worked fine, then I found out that the JoJo/Tonenailed release made a comparison between the two and found that they had a newer Caller ID.cab file and installed it.
Dunno if that is the cause, but I need to know what files need to be "renamed"/deleted in order to install back to the original cab file that was provided in Sins version, then I can tell if that is the cause.
Ring tones are also a problem, which I believe is related. However, I cannot change any ring tone at all, they all default to some dodgy one. Even if place .mid files into the ringtones directory, they dont get "recognised". I even open them manually, and say "set as ringtone" (which I think only copies to the existing ringtones directory), however this didnt work either.
So, in summary, if somebody can tell me the files to rename to install Sins caller id.cab file, I will find out if this is the cause or not.
My caller ID version (photo contacts) version is 1.20 (Build 18567)
Do you guys have a method to restore your ringtone/photo assignments after a hard reset or a ROM upgrade?
to swedbass
Yes! Just use photo contacts pro. Simply the best!
I have been using BigStorage hack on my 1.11 ROM and I can confirm that it has nothing to do with this hacked ROM. I experienced this problem previously when I had PocketMusic installed on my Mini. What I did to solve this problem was I unassociated all media files from my PocketMusic and use Resco File Explorer to associate those media files back to Media Player.
I also did a registry hack to point the ring tone folder to my Storage instead of the default Windows/Rings folder.
For your information, I am using Photo Contacts Pro as well.
Based on experience here is what I can contribute:
1) Place the ringtones in a local memory storage, maybe the Storage ROM or in Windows\Rings, avoid the avoid the SD card, it takes up time to initialize.
2) Use the old version of Photo Contacts, I was refered to use 1.20 as it had less issues with GPRS problems as well.
3) If you have third party applications playing MP3s, make sure it is registered. If you are using Pocket Music and you are still trying to use the Bundle which is not registered, the ringtones will stop or not work because the player is not initializing becasue it requires a serial or something.
4) Try to get the file association to WMP to play .wma files.
Hope this helps.

Some questions

Hey all just got some questions regarding my O2 XDA-II mini:
Firstly, how do you set a background properly? I've got the mode as 640x480, but when I try and set the today background the picture is too big and the opacity is really light and it doesn't auto-size to fit as the background. And if I try and set it a different way, the pictures comes up but it's too small, but clear. Any other ways to fix this?
And with messaging, is there a way I can have my own custom SMS receive tone? I want to record a tone from my computer and set that as my SMS receive tone, anyone know how to do that?
Cheers!
Anyone?!
Come on... i'm sure some people on this forum can help me?!?!?!
Duffman, did you look around for this info?
I don't use this kind of stuff, but I understand that MortRing does this - infact, the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20711&highlight=mortring is called "MortRing - ringtones and SMS sounds per contacts/category".
Also this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=mortring
is called "SMS Ringtones?" and says
as far as i know you can only use .wav format audio....... if you have something you want to use, then copy the files into your /windows directory, dont put them in seperate folder, just into /windows
then when you select all your different sms alerts, you can see the files you placed in the directory , in the list to select.....

Re the background image. How are you getting 640x480? Using nydiot or something? Normal magician is 320x240. I don't use a background image, but I think it doesn't stretch to fit the background, it just tiles them, so you need a background image of the correct size to begin with.

New users of Mini

Hi. I recently got my mini and have lotsa queries.
1) Cant play any other audio file as ringtone other than the default tones even though i copied the files to the windows/rings folder.
2) O2 connect will not connect to the server even though it syncs without a problem and I have 24 hrs internet on my comp.
3) After I uninstall a program, the icon still remains under the 'programs' menu. How do i remove that.
Any insight on the above mentioned queries would be really helpful. any of you can also email me at: [email protected]
Really apreciate it...
Cheers
1) if you are using mp3s for ringtones, guess you'll have to use a third party software to do that... other than that, midi files works for me...
2)you have to register your username, password and your mini in o2 website in order to connect... after that remember to go to the settings and enter your username and password...
3)either you can use memaid (a 3rd party software) to maintain your system or just use file explorer at (Start menu>Programs), at there, go to (windows>start menu) and delete your invalid shortcuts...
cheers...
mp3 ringtones shouldn't be a problem, there's even a small cab file to pick them from within the file explorer (it 'repaired' the bug). Putting them in the rings folder should do the trick, don't make them to large though. Maybe you're using a third party app which removed the wmp mp3 link.
M
thanks guys.... i tried putting in my user name and password under settings of O2 connect but am still not able to connect to the net on the mini when my phone is connected via sync cable. It says...
Connection fail
Disconnected from O2 connect server
Also, Can u gimme the link or the exe file for making MP3 my ringtones....
u guys are simply great
Cheers
Got the mp3.cab at home, can attach it this evening.
M
If I put my ringtones in windows/rings, my device "forgets" what ringtone is for who...But if I put them directly in windows/ it works just fine, Midi, mp3 and wave....no program used, just copy/paste...BTW I have renamed some of them, to match the default-ones (and deleted the def-ones) ...
Didn't manage to get the cab attached, so uploaded it to the ftp at cab installs
ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]
can you surf the net with your mini? if can't, the means it is your connectivity problem... go to your Activesync, under files select connection settings... under (this computer is connected to select automatic or the internet...
Hey oltp, thanks for d cab. now i get an option when i click on an mp3 whether i want to set this as ringtone but it says you gotta check the memory. i have close to 16 mb of mem free n it still does not happen. please please please help me out.
Hey nonentity.... i tried doin wat u said but i do not get the option at all. i 've attached the screenshot of the screen that i see under connection settings. me using activesync 3.8 if that helps... really need a solution the these probs man... :wink:
Cheers...
Hi biswadeepb,
Tried it myself with a 5Mb mp3 & worked fine, must say I've got over 30Mb free main memory due to BIG Storage. A ringtone doesn't have to be large, or do you need three minutes to find your magician?
You can also experiment with making the mp3 mono, shrinks a lot. Don't forget to code it to stereo before using as ringtone, cause wmp doesn't play mono mp3 somehow. At least i had probs with it.
As I'm probably one of the oldies around here I've got the OldPhone as ringtype.
Regards, M
Hey Oltp... the mp3 ringtone used to work earlier. then i installed some program called EasyTweak and since then it has not been working. is there a way to find out what path the ringtones have to be stored in. Maybe the path for the ringtones has changed by mistake. i have uninstalled EasyTweak but it still does not work........
Hi biswadeepb,
Welcome to the club (there is endless amounts of gear and addons for this little beauty)
As for using the O2 connect, I've never been able to connect to it using my mini either (I get the same message). Just ring them to get o2 plus emailed to you otherwise its somewhere on this site.
Have fun :lol:
I've tried easytweak too & found out that other programs do approx. the same, so after last weeks hard-reset I didn't reinstalled it. Must have 'messed up' your registry.
The rings folder can be found in the registry, search for 'rings', the patch you've installed uses this value. Thus you can find the current location also with your explorer.
For the mp3's I found this list, maybe it helps:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\MLS\Extensions]
"wmx"="playlist"
"wvx"="playlist"
"wax"="playlist"
"asx"="playlist"
"wm"="audio"
"wmp"="audio"
"wsx"="playlist"
"wmv"="video"
"asf"="audio"
"wma"="audio"
"mp3"="audio"
Cheers, M

Phone app notification (payg credit amount)

Every time i send a text message i get a bell and a box come up telling me my remaining credit. This is all very well but i cannot silence this bell. Even if i turn all the volume sliders onto silent and uncheck the play sounds boxes in the sounds settings.
anyone help me get rid of this ?
thanks.
malty
proud new owner of o2 xda mini s
anyone help with this ? i thought i must be able to just delete the wav it uses (notify.wav) but its in the rom and doesnt go.
It's really annoying that even with the vol sliders all the way down and the sound unchecked this sound STILL plays
anyone help ? please !!
I had the same problem with the message sent sound, it really got on my nerves! Just create a silent wav sound in Nero wave editor or a similar application and then transfer it to your wizard's windows directory to overwrite the existing one. sorted!
tried that, i created another notify.wav but cos the original is in rom it wont let me overwrite
ok following a recommendation to use total commander to do the copying, i did, and it worked.
Not sure how, as the original file is a read only file in ROM but nevertheless it worked. Windows explorer using the pc to browse/copy whilst synced wouldnt do it.
Cheers,
malty

Palm Treo PRO ringtone problem?

I'm using a Treo PRO by Palm and run into a small problem...
maybe some can help...

2. trough the 'sounds&notification' menu, 'notifications' choosen an 'event' known caller and set my ringtone..but it doesn't work..
The phone doesn't make a sound for incoming call, tryed it from fixed and mobile network, no message of incoming call, I only see a little ear phone near the signal icone...and after that I get a message 'cprog.exe' ??
any idea what that may be?
thank you for your help..

Where is your file located? If it is not in the My Ringtones folder you will need to place it there and then select it...
It wont read it off of the storage card for some odd reason
Hy...
I've copied the file in My Ringtones, and when I check in Sounds&Notifications-Manage it's there..so it's in phone memory...I still get the same error...
That should have done the trick. It could be something odd happening with that particular song.
I would try a bunch of different ones to eliminate that possibility. All you have to do is have the song in the "My Ringtones" folder and select it in sounds and it should work.
MP3s as ringtones work on my Treo Pro...
Are you using a long MP3....in other words over 30 seconds in length? I have cut my MP3s to 30 seconds.
By the way, Microsoft provides 79 free ringtones (some are short for SMS, etc. alerts). (Microsoft and free are rarely used in the same sentence.) Cut and paste and go to:
http://www.treoprotricks.com/post/2...r-your-Windows-Mobile-PDA-and-Smartphone.aspx
And there is indeed a completely free MP3 ringtone download site:
http://www.zedge.net/
Listen to the download before you actually download. (My name there is MaxLaw843 if you like the blues or Scottish music....search for me.)
Hy guys,
GOT IT!..
I cut the mp3 song to exactly 18 seconds...I also have another three songs in that 'My Ringtones' folder, and the same problem occurs..but, I tested it againd and found out that three of my melodies work and two don't..
three that work are complete songs..and two that don't are cut..but they work when played in wmplayer in the phone ??
any idea maybe??
tnx for your time
three melodies that work are at 128kbps and two that don't are at 198kpbs...
how can i change kbps?
