Sorry to be so obvious dudes, but should the keyboard on my Exec light up?
Cant find the details in the manual, but have found plenty of references to it in various forums.
Thanks in advance chaps.

Yes it should, and it will. . . .if you are in a practically pitch black room. Above the words "XDA Exec" on your device is a whitish circle. This is a light sensor. If you cover it with your thumb and press a key, it will all light up
On the more permanent side you could edit the registry so it always comes on when you press a key. First you need to install a registry editor, i use Resco Explorer 2005. You can find it here http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer
Then drill down into your registry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
ControlPanel
Backlight
AutoSensor 0x0 (1)
This is set to 1, edit so it is 0. Soft reset your device. That turns off the light sensor so the backlight always works.

Hi!
I got my mda pro some weeks ago. Now i had a strage issue as I hard reseted the device: it showed some items in the controlpanel menu, that were not there before like: GPS settings, Contrast...
On the next reset they were gone again.
Does anybody know, how i can unhide them again? Is there a registry entry? a key combination?
thanks in advance
(please excuse my desastrous english)
just as an experiment i found the Contrast key in the reg, up in the list from the gps fix one
HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\ControlPanel\
i added dword Group with dec value of 1, logiclly thinking that would make 2nd tab in ctrl panel disply the contrast key
removed the redirect value there,
powered off, waited 10 seconds, held power and hit reset,
Wow, now i got a contrast option in the system page of settings!!!
only thing is tho, moving the slider has bog all difference, think i'll undo that change and remove a useless applet

I have just got my first Windows Mobile 5 Device, a MDA Vario. Its great, but Ive put Photo Contacts Pro on it, and changed the home screen soft key from contacts to Photocontactspro. Thing is, the app name is too long and gets cut off to "photo con"
Is there anyway to rename this softkey?
Thanks
You can do that in the registries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112 - right key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113 - left key
Values:
Default=Button label
Open=command
Cool, thanks
Hmmm
I wonder if you can help me.
I tried VITO ButtonManager and it has well and truly screwed up my softkey definitions for the Today Screen.
The right one seems to change what is does and the left one does not work at all.
I have disabled Button Manger but still cannot get the softkeys to work again.
How would I reset them to their original values?
Please bear in mind I have NEVER changed a registry key before?

Remapping SoftKeys
Robster, there is a complete incompatibility between our Wizard and VitoButtonMapper soft.
For interested people there is a specific soft to change Right and Left key applications (for instance, the right softkey is now launching TomTom instead of Contact).
Juste time to find where I may share this soft with you !
You could just follow the registry tweaks up top
It's not much more difficult from using Windows Explorer and notepad
I just upgraded my O2 XDA 2 from PocketPC to WM2003SE, and wanted to ask how do I get a little icon at the bottom of the screen which I can click in order to change the screen orientation?
The only way I can change the screen orientation is by Start\Settings\System\Screen which is too long winded. Can this be done?
Not sure if this is the one, I'm blurry, I'm still working
HKLM > System > GDI > Rotation > HideOrientationUI = 0

The PPC has a registry????    How do I get in?
Ouch. There are various registry editors, non built in. Have a search around on the board for recommendations. A lot of people use Resco something or other. I use Kilmist regedit. There are free ones though.

Nah, didn't work- still haven't got an icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Any other suggestions?
I still can't get the screen rotation button to show on the Main screen. Any other suggestions?
I am looking for a way to always let the keyboard give lite wen screen is open en power supply plugged in.
I want this, because wen i am driving and it is dark i want to see my keyboard so I can see it better.
If someone knows a solution or a program that will do the trick, would be cool.

There's no way to set up a rule regarding whether it's plugged in or not, but you can tell it to leave it on regardless of whether it's plugged in or not. (just use the on-screen keyboard when you're on battery at night ;¬D)
You'll need a registry editor (I use the Resco one).
go to this location in the Uni's registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight\QKeyLedTimeout
the value of this key is the time in seconds it takes for the screen to "time out" after detecting a key press whilst it's dark. 6 hours (should be enough for a night) is 21600.
regarding backlight
Hello r3bel.
I tried to do this with mobile registry editor, but when i am changing the value and press ok its says that no access is allowed. (in swedish).
What am i doing wrong. Is it possible to install reg editor to the pda instead of the computer?.
Best regards
knetan

Hello everyone,
I want to change the colour of LED for incoming call. Mine illuminates green and i want to change it to some other colour. Can anyone help me regarding this?
Thanks
This should do the trick:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=440035
Thanks, but this does not have an option for changing colour for INCOMING CALL.
I've been playing around with the LEDs during Xmas (stomach disease )
I was thinking about doing a program for them, but now I'm healthy again , so I guess the rest of my free time will go to the family.
Here are som reg tweaks for changing LEDs on incoming call.
I have only changed the colors of the LEDs, the pattern and the active LEDs are still the same, though they can be changed too.
The attached settings is for GREEN, RED, BLUE, PURPLE or multicolored LEDs.
Remember to restart the phone for the changes to take effect.
Thanks a lot on8a.
Can u please tell me how to use these reg files?
Thank u very much!!!!!!!!!
Copy the reg file you want to use to anywhere on the phone. Open file explorer on the phone and just click the file. The registry settings for incoming call should then be changed after confirmation. Restart the phone.
When clicking on file it says There is no application associated with it.
What to do?
Sorry for trouble
You can download a registry explorer with import functionality to do the task.
SK Tools, Resco Explorer and Total Commander all have import functionality.
Using Total Commander, which is free, you tap the file and select Copy/Move in the context menu and write \\\registry\ as the destination.
Note: with Total Commander you have to use reg files in unicode format, see new attachment.
It worked fine.
Thank you very much!!!!!!!
