If you are already connected to a WIFI router the phone should not disconnect even when other WIFI networks are detected.
MSN messenger and Hotmail can be accessed using the preinstalled "Pocket MSN".

Connecting through Wi-Fi with PPPoE?

Hello all,
I have just bought a Trinity, and was trying to connect to the internet through Wi-Fi... The problem is, I have to connect through PPPoE with a username/pw. Does anyone know how to do it on the Trinity?
Please note that I'm not too computer-savvy... I just know that my Windows-based computers don't connect to the internet automatically; I have to launch an application and enter a login/pw to connect. On my Mac, I have to launch airport AND 'connect through PPPoE' to connect. I heard there are wireless routers that have a PPPoE feature, and was wondering how that works? maybe I can just configure the PPPoE on the router, so that I don't have to go through the whole login process when connecting through Wi-Fi...?
Alternatively, is it possible to connect to the internet with the Trinity through my laptop's internet connection using Bluetooth or USB? (i.e. using the laptop as a "modem", not the other way around)
Thanks a bunch!
As far as I am aware the Trinity doesn't support the PPPoE protocol. What you will need to do is probably use internet passthrough with activesync. This is done by setting up your PDA with activesync, the passthrough should work automatically. If not try going to start->settings->connections->USB? (or something like that) and unchecking the box. I had to uncheck the box for passthrough to work.
The only other way would be to get the wireless router to do the PPPoE for you. This is what I do with my router, however the way to do it differs from router to router. You should check the manual to see if it is supported.

Create wifi network on PocketPC (HTC Touch) to share it's internet connection?

Hi,
I don't think this is currently possible but I do not see any reason why? Does anyone know if there is a 3rd party app to provide this?
Thanks,
Phillip
Possible ! (Well somewhat)
This is very much possible. I got it working as follows :
(1) Create a WiFi connection on Pocket Pc with ad-hoc feature and Open Security, make sure you select "Work" as the connection.
(2) Give the WiFi adapter on Pocket PC an internal address similar to 192.168.0.2 (255.255.255.0)
(3) On your PC/Laptop set WiFi adapter IP to 192.168.0.1 (255.255.255.0)
(4) You need a program like Pocket PC Proxy to be installed on the Pocket PC.
(5) Enable proxy settings on Laptop as 192.168.0.2:80 (or the port set on the proxy prog on ppc)
(6) Enable WiFi on ppc
And Voila ! You can browse internet using the connection on your ppc.
Hi,
Thanks, I will give this a try. However, I can't seem to find this piece of software (Pocket PC Proxy). Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Here you go...
Thanks for the download, I'm using an HTC Touch (Elf) with WM6. I can't seem to figure out how to create an ad-hoc wifi connection?
(Sorry to be a pain but i think that this will benefit others too!)
Ahaa, I managed to figure out how to create an adhoc network on the Pocket PC, I assigned it the correct IP (as above) and basically followed the instructions.
I'm actually trying to get my iPod Touch to connect to the net via the HTC Touch.
I iPod sees the wifi connection and connects perfectly, I can even assign the ip and subnet mask. However, I simply can not connect to the internet either with or without the proxy. Any suggestions on what I am missing?
THanks
What kind of an internet connection do you have on the ppc ?
- GPRS/EDGE ? Is it always connected/on ?
Got it working, you can ignore the following
Thanks!

Hi, here is everything I have done:
Connections, Internet
Modem: T-Mobile Internet, GPRS (UK, no edge)
Proxy Settings: This network connects to the internet
This network uses a proxy server to conncet to the internet
149.254.291.132
(This was all set by the phone when I switched it on)
My Work Connection:
Nothing set up here
WIFI
Add New...
Network Name: test
Connects to: Work
This is a device-to-device (ad-hoc) connection
Authentication: Open
Data Encryption: Disabled
This seems to create an ad-hoc connection and sits there with 'Connecting' until another device connects to it.
Network Adapters
My network card connects to: Work
IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible WIFI....
Edit:
Use specific IP address:
192.168.0.2
255.255.255.0
(Everything else blank)
Wireless LAN
SSID: test
Mode: 802.11 Ad hoc
Channel: 11
When I connect two devices together the IP shown under advanced seems to read 192.168.0.21 (I think this should end .2 so not sure why it isn't)
If I connect my laptop I can 'ping' 192.168.0.2 and that works but both my laptop and ipod touch do not seem to be able to connect to the internet.
On the ipod touch I simply get 'Server not found' or something similar.
(I have remembered to run PocketPCProxy)
Yes, the GPRS is connected whenever I run PocketPCProxy.
I would really appreciate any help you can give, I really like using the browser on my ipod Touch but don't really want to go the whole hog and buy an iPhone because it is so tied down and restricted.
Thanks,
Phillip
I don't know what I have done but suddenly it works, now it comes up and shows the correct ip on my pocket pc.
Anyway, thanks for your help!
Hi everyone,
I have been trying to ad-hoc connect my PC (Lenovo X60s with XPSP2) to HTC Touch via WiFi to be able to share files and stream music.
It did connect and pinged ok, however the two just refuse to see one another on their networks.
Does anyone have any successful experience trying for the same?
Regards,
Madana
I tried this between my TyTN and TyTN II, the latter being the gateway, but the TyTN insists on still using GPRS for its internet instead of the wifi. Very annoying, and it's runing WM5 so (i dont think) you can't turn of the GPRS like you can with WM6.
Does anyone know how to make it use wifi, and wifi only for internet?
Thanks,
Sebastian
i have installed pocket pc proxy after a file called ......ppc3.arm.cab (i don't remember how it begins) but it doesn't work... any idea?
same here the pocket pc proxy when i run shows a fatal error in running it.

Wireless Ad Hoc Connection

Hi there
Hope somebody can help me with this...
I ve set up an wireless ad hoc connection between my laptop, which is connected to a wired broadband connection, and my Xperia. When I look for the network, my Xperia finds the ad hoc network and I can connect to it no problem what so ever.
however, the problem then is that I cannot do much more once I m connected to my computer. I cannot find the folders which I specifically made available for network access nor can I surf the internet over the laptops' connection (which I normally should be able to do with an ad hoc connection)
anybody who has tried the same thing and succeeded? help would be appreciated
thanks

I have not done it with my xperia but had this problem with a WM6 device before. The problem is that windows mobile will not get a server assigned ip address and dns server address. You must specify a static ip and dns server, then it will work. And next time you want to connect to another network you must remove the static settings. Pretty annoying.

PPPoE or gateway or anything that would get me to internet

Hi ppl!
I have problem with connecting to the internet with my i900. I'm pretty new to WM so I'm pretty confused about lacking of standard options that I'm used on XP...
But let me explain whats the problem:
I have adsl router and need to dial pppoe connection to get out to the net. My ISP has locked routers default capabilities, which had setting up pppoe connection in the router so every thing that connets to the router could have easy exit to the internet (yeah, stupid ISP...).
So I've searched for the pppoe on the WM and found on this forum (i cant post the link?) app that can make pppoe connection on wm. Problem is that it doesn't work on my phone and feedback on it is pretty low.
So I've came up with another solution which needs a gateway function on my WM: I can dial a pppoe connection on my PC, share it, and then use my PC as a gateway to the internet by setting my PC's IP as a gateway on my WM phone. My PC is connected to the router by wire and hasn't got wireless adapter on it. Only thing wireless is a router... and a phone
I have found gateway option: (settings->wifi->network adapters->SyChip Jaguar->Use specific IP adress
BUT it doesn't work. I cant connect to the internet!
because I'm new to all this, is there something I'm missing?
I can ping my phones IP from my PC and my PC's IP with vxUtil and I've disabled firewall on my PC. In opera I've tryed all of connection tipes but I get "network problem". Also, I've configured my wireless conenctios as "my work network" and checked box under "This network connects to the internet"
Help?
PS
cracking a IPS's router isn't the option
