How do you receive files/pictures/contacts via bluetooth? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi,
A bit new to PPC and the Magician, just got delivery of my i-mate JAM yesterday.
This might well be user error and a case of RTFM but I can't work out how I send contact information/ pictures/ mp3s or pretty much anything else to my JAM via bluetooth. I've tried sending files from my old P910 and also from a friends XDA IIi. I see no response on the JAM at all and the P910 just errors out saying it was not possible to send. The error message on the XDA was a little more meaningfull though I cant remember exactly what it was but something along the lines of the device not supporting the operation.
I've searched through all the posts on this forum and googled for an answer but not come up with anything yet
Its a brand new i-mate JAM with nothing extra on it running 1.11.0 WWE ROM, 1.11.0 radio version, 1.11.179 WWE ExtROM
THanks in advance for any help

You can use your File explorer and the send-to option to send files via bluetooth.

here is a challenge for all the pros in here
How to make this work(file explorer/resco explorer) with the Bluesoleil stack ?

How do you receive files/pictures/contacts via bluetooth
Have you tried this cab file " SwitchIT.CAB " ?
I had the same problem , i could send to another machin but not recieve anything. Install the SwitchIT.CAB onto your machine and enable Obex On this should solve the problem . Cheers

... or simply go into Settings>Connections>Beam>Receive incoming beams (checkbox).. After that, you should be able to receive both IR and BT incoming files.

Yes, that's all you need to do. My wife is constantly beaming appointments to my O2 Xda II mini from her Palm Treo 650 at home. When I next pick it up there are multiple items waiting to be saved. Works a treat.

The MS Stack the Magician uses only lets you choose whether to accept a file after it has already been accepted. If you recieve a 5 meg file, you'll get no confirmation until the transfer is complete, then it will ask if you want to accept.

Thanks for quick reply.
Well I know a lot of people are using their pda's and cell phones to send msg's, files etc via bluetooth.
On pda's it's quite easy - just open bluetooth window and you can manage almost everything.
But on MDA 2 there's just "Blue tooth parameters" in control panel and that's all.
Well it's ok with handsfree, it works, but how to work with other devices?
Maybe there's kind'a application for this performance?
with beam you can already push and pop files back and forth between the xda2 and other bluetooth able devices
but text msg is another thing
if other people with pocketpc's got some std and some program it's just a matter of getting the program from them and putting it on the xda2 and it would work xda2 is a pocketpc like all other pocketpc's and share programs with them just like pc's can run the same programs
of cause maybe some of those programs would not work with ms's bluetooth that xda2 uses

You're right.
I've tried the program BuzZone (www.buzzone.net), but when it's being installed from PC to MDA2, there's appearing an error message on MDA screen at the end of setup: "Cannot find BT CE file" or something like that.
What is "ms bluetooth"?
it's the bluetooth stack that ms made that comes free with winCE
hp and other pda makers use a 3th party bluetooth stack which is much much much better
You can always send short messages in a contact's name field. This is known as 'bluejacking' - sending anonymous messages to strangers via Bluetooth.
For more information visit:
http://www.bluejackaddict.co.uk
This works!!
The title of the message is the Contact's name, The message itself is the Contacts Notes
How to:
Create contact with name / notes
Save
Tap it
Tools / Beam contact
Select the victim device
What we need is something like SMAN on the Px00 that could scan for 'victims' and automatically send the contact to them.
SMAN also logged succesful 'hits' - great fun for the supermarket!
bluejacking
one other thing that is needed desperately is some way of making sure that you only bluejack good-looking people not people that look like me

How'd you get the option to beam to bluetooth. Even with mine turned on I only can beam via infrared.
It should also say searching" whilst it scans for bluetooth receivers can take a couple of minutes to locate other phones

Bluetooth Receiver Info

Hey guyz this is a newbie question. I was just wondering is there ANY way that i can see the name of the person who's sending me any file over bluetooth?
btw, i tried installing the widcomm stack but it creates a lotta problems for my imate so i was just wondering is there any other simple way or a tool that can fix that? Id appreciate it. Thanks.
Damn 28 views and not 1 Reply?
Ummm my question was not clear? :/
Sorry mate I do not know the answer to you question but I am also looking for a way to get a compleat Bluetooth stack working... I was going to install the widcomm drivers but heard that there is problems with headsets... this whole bluetooth stuff is giving me the........ Lets just say I wish there was some sort of standard when it comes to bluetooth...
Cheers! (Good Luck!)
Sender info is not sent via BT, so it cant be seen when youre being bluejacked. Thats the cute thing of bluejacking: Sending messages anounimously and seeing peoples reaction . . .
My advise; stick with the standard Bt Stack, but DO upgrade to the 1.72 rom.
Onlly setback: No widcomm specific s/w will run (like buzzone).
But who cares ? (i dont)
With the standard BT Stack on 1.72 both headset and SPP (for ie GPS) work flawlessly.
edsub, Sender Info IS sent via bluetooth and if u look at the other phones, u will notice that the nickname is displayed when receiving a file via bluetooth from anyone. Also when u install a stack, it shows the nickname of the person sending u any file. I was just wondering instead of installing a whole stack couldn't there just be a simple tool that could show that?
I already have the 1.72 rom
anywayz thanks for the replies guyz i hope other people enlighten us with this topic as well.
Sheeshadevil, I am looking for the same problem (to show sender info when sending a file via bluetooth). Widcomm got some probelms too.
Note that all of Nokia mobiles show sender info when they send files, even when Imate send file to Nokia, they see the owner name written in the woner name field!!
yes exactly ! i was wondering why the imate doesn't do the same
sheeshadevil, I am expecting to receive a good Bluetooth utility that allows imate to display "sender ID" when we receive a file via bluetooth. It also had other nice features. I was told about it and waiting for it from a friend. Will chare it with you dears as soon as I get it.
oh really? please do id really appreciate it. Thanks
hey guys, any update on this? been following this trail, i'm also interested on the said software. please do post it here as you receive it. thanks in advanced
we're all waiting .. someone come and save us from this nightmare !!

Send contact Via Bluetooth

hi
was looking to send a contact from one phone to another over bluetooth but noticed that on wm2005 this option is missing on the universal
Does anyone have any ideas or is it just another missing feature on the Imate
I do wish they would hurry up and fix all the teething problems with this device
Cheers
Select the contact and then goto Menu>Beam Contact... and it will search for avliable "beams" (IrDA and Bluetooth...)

I have both a pda2k and an imate jasjar. I copied 234 contacts from the pda to the jj in 4 minutes via bluetooth. And this is OK.
Then I tried the opposite.
If you establish a BT connection between the devices, the use the same option as for the IR connection. I tried and it worked. I kept the two separate with IR ports opposite that it could be impossible to establish a different connection rather than the BT one.
It worked!
Sending contacts via bluetooth
How do you select all contacts to beam them? I only seem to be able to select one at a time (Windows Mobile 5 - i-mate k-Jam)
Cheers

If you install Pocket Informant you can select multiple contacts for beaming
AndyCr15 - yes that is the case with "ordinary" files. Obviously, if the Operating System will let you send them via Bluetooh/a.k.a "Beam".

A Major Bug in HTC Wizard!!!

U can beam files via infrared only to windows and windows mobile devices!!!! I noticed this yesterday...U cant transfer files through infrared to other phones like nokia and sony ericsson...and microsoft themselves are accepting this fact...take a look at this link........

Me thinks you need to read a bit more carefully.
The issue in question affects WinCE v4.2, not WM5.
And if you test sending files back and forth between a Wizard and another device, you'll see it works just fine. I've done it with a SE T616 no problem.
So no, it's not a major bug in the Wizard.
Hi Roshan...
U need to read more here...but just for yr information get hold of a 3rd party software called as Resco Explorer and u can very well send files from IR/BT as well to any of the phones...
Pls note that some of the Nokia/Samsung/SE phones hv IR only to be used as a Modem on IR and not FTP is allowed..so in that case they won't accept the file from IR..
I hope this solves yr prob.

Nope, I sent all my contacts from an SE610 to the 8125 via IR, so it is not only windows. Reason I did this? Couldn't get BT to send more than 1 contact.... Go figure.

I don't think it's been relevant for years, but there's also PeaceMaker:

You can send all contacts through BT. Install the attached cab file on your device. In contacts, tap and hold on a contact. In the pop-up menu there is now an option to select all contacts. After all contacts are selected, tap and hold again and choose send contact. It should then beam all contacts by BT to another device. Mind you, the cab only works once, you'll have to soft reset to get the "select all contacts" option working again.
hmmm...
Has anyone tried to send a jpg file from HTC wizard to a symbian operated phone...like nokia 6260,3230.....or nokia6111 , sony ericsson t610....i tried all these phones but not possible...infact i tried with my friends htc wizard and faced the same problem....
My device configuration is like this
Model:O2 xda mini s
Rom version:2.21.4.1WWE
rom date:3/9/06
radio version:02.07.10
protocol versio:413.1.03
Extended rom:2.21.4.101
JPEG file via IR...to a symbian...better send via BT...but...I can't tell u bcos I can't recall as how many times I hv done that....I had used Nokia 3650 and iPAQ 1940 for a years time
U need to check the way u r doing
I tried to send from a wizard to and from a SPV C500 with no joy - but it seems to be the C500 lacks the software to beam or send it by bluetooth.
I have received pics from a Sagem MYX6 and MYX7 and a Sanyo S750 (which has wonderfully set out menus controlling a phone that does not work!)
Do you have ative the transfer option in connection tab?
This is necessary if you want transfer any file trow IR or BT.
checked everything...
my settings are all proper........enabled accept all incoming beams...now i am seeing that sending a file(jpg) to se610 through bluetooth is also not possible :-( file progress bar in se610 hangs in the middle of transfer....
I know that bluetooth is always there...but when we have paid so much then everything should work right...
the only problem is with sending it from htc wizard to any other device....receiving is not a problem!!!
have had a few problems with sending mp3s via BT to new nokia phones..IR works without any problems but is very slow

Transfer via Bluetooth

Hi,
I have this annoying problem with my Prophet. I cannot transmit or receive files through bluetooth. I thought it is a WM 5 thing, but it works on my friends smartphone and dell PDA.
Did i do the ROM upgrade incorrectly, or is this inline with the patch of bad luck that i am getting with my prophet?
Cheers,
Oz.
Please, describe what are you doing when you try to send/receive files...
Hi
Go to settings>connections>beam and make sure its ticked to "recieve all incoming beams"
To send files just search them using the provided file explorer, tap and hold and then select "beam file"
IT will then search for nearby BT devices. Click tap to send.
You can beam to loads of ppl at once as well, so thats cool.
The one thing I cant work out as of yet is how to change my default recieve directory from My Documents. I want to recieve files on my storage card *grrr* but I guess it will ahve to do for now.
