O2 UK. GPRS No Longer Works --> Looks Like Network Issues - Networking

Hi
28th Oct 23:50
Anyone else having issues with GPRS on O2 UK?? It worked fine earlier today. device config has not changed, and now it refuses bluntly to connect.
apn: mobile.o2.co.uk, username: o2web, password: blank (tried with password as 'password' too makes no difference. Tries to connect for about a year, then gives up with error that 'modem' has not answered.
O2 B*ggered something up again??
Nigel

o2 GPRS not working again!!
Just tried it mate!.. location Ayrshire.. NOT working.. "couldn't connect for unknown reason"????
And o2 have no plans to bring 3G to the area!.. GREAT! :x
lol.. oh! well!

GPRS Settings

Hi guys. i know this topic has been done to death, but please one more time.
Can someone provide the setting and info i need to get my wizard to connect to O2 GPRS pay as you go.
i believe it is possible but can not manage it, i once asked o2 to enable gprs and i have the G on the taskbar. so i'm assuming i'm all good to go.
i told the setup app after a hard reset that i wanted gprs and it always says unknown error can't connect etc...
please help, don't link me off to a mad thread that argues against itself, i could really so with finding someone that uses a wizard on o2 pay as you go.
anyone?
PS: thanks
Oh shucks sometimes we like to send people on wild goose chases !
But for you
Session Type Continuous/Permanent
Security Off
Gateway Address
Port number 9201
DNS Address 193.113.200.200 (dont need to add)
193.113.200.201
Authentication Normal
Access Point Name payandgo.o2.co.uk
Username payandgo
Password password
Home Page http://pda.o2.co.uk/
I use both contract and payg
that is brilliant, my settings were all messed up.
atill didn't work so i wondered about my sim, called o2 and yes i have data enabled but my sim is nearly 8 years old and so gprs is kinda beyound it lol. its a pp4 sim and i think the latest is a pp9.
anyway o2 are sending me a new one for free so it should work with these setting, many thanks
i now have a new sim but still can not connect
well ok i can connect it says connecting then i get the 2 arrows saying its connected. but checking my hotmail... i select send and receive and it takes ages then errors saying it can not respond to one of the requests.
i have checked with o2 that i cam data enabled, i have a new sim and i am using the above settings provided by meschle. (where do you put the port number btw? could not see that anywhere).
anyone have any ideas... please
Port number is not important if not asked for. Sounds like it is connecting - can you browse on internet? How are you trying to download hotmail? As far as I know you cant download email by pop with hotmail.
thanks for your fast reply. i'm using pocketmsn well trying to anyway. its got my hotmail email listed in it and works well on wifi. msn messenger fails to connect as well.
can i just confirm you have managed to use payasyougo gprs with the wizard? i'm a thinking its time to call O2 again.
one daft question... how do i hard reset it? the manual says. turn it off hold and keep held the top 2 buttons and stab the reset pin. this never worked it did once work while the device was turned on. now i come to hard reset it again and i simply cannot. have tried all sequences of on off buttons and stabbing. this is a daft problem to be having lol
I have a payg card but is not connected for data, the settings were from the same source as contract settings which work. Just a question under connections when you add new connection - did you choose cellular line (gprs) - just a thought could be missed.
Hard reset - the way you describe is the way i do it without problem. Some people do it by settings\clear storage - i feel its pretty much the same.
I want to say thanks a lot for your help, but if you have never connected to gprs on a payasyougo sim then you don't know if it will work. O2 assure me it can work but i'm close to thinking it can not.
Could you try your payasyougo sim with data and see if it works? then i will know if it is a fault my end or not.
Is there anyone out there that HAS go O2 payasyougo GPRS working on a wizard?
PS: hard reset, thanks clear storage works
I have an O2 contract and have an O2 PAYgo sim as well, the PAYgo sim will let you surf the internet via GPRS but NOT send and receive email or connect Agile messenger or pocket MSN, basically its a crap GPRS service, on O2 contract you connect via GPRS through what O2 call their 'mobile web' service, with this you can send/receive email, connect to pocket MSN etc no probs, but like i said PAYgo will not let you connect via O2's 'mobile web' service. So basically your screwed with O2 PAYgo!
The BEST option is to buy an Orange PAYgo sim for a quid i think from their web site, this gives you the same deal as the O2 option i.e 300 free text, 1 MB data for topping up a tenner a month, BUT you will be able to connect to pocket MSN, send receive emails and connect to Agile messenger no probs, i've got one of these and it works brilliantly! They even have an add on that lets you pay a quid for unlimited GPRS usage up to midnight of that particular day, its a fantastic deal!
These are the settings i used on my O2 XDA IIs and now use on my MINI S (the steps it shows in order set it up are for the XDA IIs, but is nearly the same for the MINI S):
1. Go to Start -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections.
2. You'll see 2 sets of option links. 'My ISP' and 'Work'. Under the work links, choose 'Add a new modem connection'.
3. Name for connection: o2 gprs. Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS). Tap Next.
4. Access Point Name: wap.o2.co.uk (for contract) payandgo.o2.co.uk (for payandgo)
5. Username: o2wap (for contract) payandgo (for payandgo)
6. Password: password
7. Tap Finish.
8. Back in the connections settings screen, tap 'Edit My Proxy Server'.
9. Tick 'This network connects to the Internet' and 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet'.
10. In the proxy server box enter: 193.113.200.195
11. Tap OK.
12. Back in the connections settings screen, tap the Advanced tab.
13. Tap 'Select Networks'
14. In both drop down boxes choose 'Work' as the connection. Tap OK.
15. Tap OK again.
16. Sorted!
GSM:

Having trouble connecting to Vodafone Live! (UK)

I signed up to Vodafone and got a 6230i wchich all work perfectly but I'm using the JAM as my main phone.
I've set everything up according to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12497&highlight=remove+mms+server
but can't connect to Vodafone Live!
Everything else works..TXT, SMS, Internet is all OK.
Any ideas please?
Dave
hi davehutch,
I'm using my magician with vodafone Live! NL
In the past i had the same problem as you. Calling customer services of vodafone turned out that you have to connect via a proxy server for wap protocol. In my case the proxy adress is 192.168.251.150.
Good luck
Thanks for the tip...but
I don't really understand the JAM connection settings, never have.
Where is this address entered? Is it under the My ISP or the My Work Network sections?
Under Settings -> connections -> connections there will probably be a setting vodafone live! or something like that.
tick "set up my proxy setting" and then turn on "This network connects to the internet" and "this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet.
when you tick advanced settings you can enter the proxy adress that the vpa should use. in my case that is:
WAP 192.168.251.150 PORT 9201
Secure WAP 192.168.251.150 PORT 9202
once you have entered the settings, go to the pocket internet explorer and go go wsp://live.vodafone.com
please keep in mind that the settings about work for vodafone NL. It is possible that Vodafone UK uses other settings.
Good luck
Thanks for the suggestion
No luck though. I have made progress though. Everything now works: txt, MMS, e-mail, Web, WAP and I even connect to Vodafone Live! but...I only get the text version.
i feel like I'm getting closer but may never actually get there.
Is the JAM WAP level compatible with the graphic version of Vodafone Live!?
thanks for your help so far
Dave

Orange GPRS problem/connection

hi, i just upgrade my device to tynt but i have small problem with GPRS every time i try to connect i am getting error message "problems connecting to the GPRS in your registrated area bla bla bla" i tried setting it up myself according to orange settings and still no luck. any one experienced the same problem any solutions or fixes ??? wi-fi works with no issue.
can it be hardware problem ? please people help
regardss, cudo
Hi Cudo,
I'm using an M3100 and have had no problems with GPRS connection. I guess you are getting a G or 3G symbol in the menu bar at the top showing GPRS/PS attached? Another thing to check if you have had a new SIM Orange might not have activated GPRS on it for some reason.
My Orange settings are:
Name: Orange Internet
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Access point Name: orangeinternet
(no username or password or TCPIP settings in advanced)
Under proxy: This network connects to the internet - checked.

hi, thx for the info. i sorted my problem by colling support center the lady txted me with setting and it is all done now. as to the settings i had before they were excatly the same and indeed i have new sim so maybe she just activated my GPRS .
thanks, cudo
Typical eh?
I had a similar problem with MMS when I got my universal about 1 year ago. I work on phones (protocol test and field test) so I'm pretty savvy but couldn't get it working at all so phoned them - they sent me a message with exactly the same settings and that was it working!

P3600 in USA, T-Mobile

Does anyone have any experiance in using P3600 in USA with T-Mobile? In particular, I am having hard time getting to Internet and receiving MMS messages.
Because of the specifics of the USA cell and PDA market, getting a PDA working with a service provider (if you don't buy it from the service provider itself) can be tough. I have set up my Trinity to connect to EDGE, it shows the "E" on the top of the bars, but it still has a hard time browsing the Internet. There is not much help offered on their website, so I was hoping may be someone has had an experience setting it for T-Mobile.
Any help would be appreciated.
Nerses
you'll probably have to call T-Mobile and get their MMS and internet settings, or it might be somewhere on their website.
I have set it according to their instructions here: http://support.t-mobile.com/knowbase/root/public/tm21625.htm?
That shows my phone connected to EDGE by I am still not able to access the Internet.
I've just spent a week in the USA with my Orange M700 - everything worked fine, probably gonna have some horrible roaming bills though as it's still on the original orange account
I'm in the US on T-Mobile, no problem with Internet. The only thing I had to do was enter the server address -- internet2.voicestream.com, and all works.
MMS has been a bit more trying. I do get inbound notifications of MMS coming in, but haven't played around with it enough to get it working. Then again, I don't use MMS so it hasn't been a pressing issue. I'll play with it tomorrow and see what I get.
dada21,
Connecting to internet2.voicestream.com helped! Thank you.
On T-Mobile website they were suggesting connecting to wap.voicestream.com and using a proxy server. But once I took out the proxy server and used the server you suggested it worked fine.
With the MMS messages- yes, I get only the inbound notifications too. Don't get the actual message.
Glad internet2 worked for you.
Getting MMS working was a *****. Here's what I did:
I set up a new connection under "Work" to wap.voicestream.com
Under Messaging, MMS, settings:
Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port: 9201
Server address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Connect via: Work
Sending size limitation: 248K
WAP version: WAP 1.2
I received MMS perfectly but didn't test sending yet.
Let us know how it works for you.

Vodafone settings won't work

Guys,
I received my Xperia today, and i'm trying all day long to get my vodafone gprs/3g settings to work.
I tried serveral things: automatic settings, I did the settings manualy, I did a hard reset twice, etc. etc.
But I keep getting the same message all the time. When I try to put the data connection on in the comm manager he's trying to connect 2 or 3 times, and then I get:
"Dialed: live.vodafone.com
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacture's documentation and try again".
Click to collapse
I'm out of ideas
I have a UK Xperia and I'm living in Holland, but that may not be the problem right?
I use the following settings:
Acces Point: live.vodafone.com
Username: vodafone
Password: vodafone
Proxy:
HTTP: 192.168.251.150:8799
WAP: 192.168.251.150:9201
Thanks in advance!
I have the same problem.
i do know that i need to disable the proxy for everything to work.
but for some reason its not working anymore
and it did this morning.
anyone?
Found it!
