AARRGGGGHHH VPN Over WIFI - Networking

PLEEEESE HELP ME!
Im going insane with this problem. I have searched the forum for hours trying to find a solution but I cant seem to find an answer (Maybe there isnt one)
All I want to do is set up a PPTP VPN connection over WIFI. I have buggered about with both my XDAII2s and my Exec but for the life of me cant figure out what I am doing wrong!!
There is something else I have noticed too; at some point I was able to connect to my WIFI and was able to access shared files on one of my computers, unfortunately, I cant do that now either?!?
Would some God-Like Hero please give me a quick step by step on how to get this thing working, or maybe even point me in the right direction.
Any help would be enormously appreciated
Thanks
J
***UPDATE***
Managed to get the VPN to connect over WIFI
Unfortunately, it drops off after a few seconds
Still cant figure out how to access shared files on the network though, I know it has worked before, just cant figure out how to get it working again!?!
anyone?

You could try using Pocket Hosts
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/pockethosts.shtml
Just type in the name and the ip address of your computer, click add and check the box next to it. Then go to file explorer, select open and then type in your computers name.
Good Luck!

The same problem
I have exactly the same problem, I connect to WiFi and VPN - but disconnect me in second.
As I read others post - its bug however without fix, before I upgrade to new ROM BA_TMNL_14200_115_11300_Ship.exe it works great. Could someone with older rom try to connect VPN over WiFi?

I have spoken to tech support regarding the issue With a vpn dropping
immediately when trying to connect through Wifi - I was informed this
was a known issue with no date for a fix I have seen in the forums that
a new ROM update is due soon for some bluetooth issues Can you confirm
whether or not this will also fix the vpn issue

Good Afternoon,
Thankyou for your email,
We cannot confirm everything that will form part of the new ROM Upgrade
apart from that it will include:
An updated and improved version of O2 Active User Interface.
Blackberry Connect software.
The Xda website will have these for download soon - date to be
confirmed.
Note that there will actually be a Blackberry and a Non-Blackberry ROM
made available for this device.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if further assistance is required,

Tried your new ROM today - this still doesn't fix the vpn over wifi
issue I also note that you haven't upgraded the radio rom as other OEM's
have To fix various lockup problems
Any idea what is being done to fix this - as vpn over wifi was a feature
Advertised with these devices - which does smack as not as advertised

As regards VPN over Wifi, please could you provide us with information

far as we are aware, the two were offered separately, i.e. VPN client
and WLAN feature for the device.
Many thanks

The device Comes with 3 connection methods GPRS, Bluetooth and WiFi As
such one would assume all device features would work together with VPN's
As they do with other windowsmobile2003se devices, it appears to only be
an issue with the HTC Alpine(XDAIIi)and Blue Angel (XDA Iis which I
haven't tested)
Incidently it does work with an SD Card Wifi Device plugged into the SD
slot, just not the onboard one Proving it is a valid feature of the OS
Windowsmobile2003se does support the function of VPN over wifi And I
have managed to get this working on other makes of PDA's Using
windowsmobile2003
See below for instruction:

Can I assume from the tone of the response that O2 are not interested in
fixing this Known issue And merely wish to make sure they are not
advertising it as a feature, it is a supported function Of the Operating
system you device uses and therefore should work
O2 specifically charge extra for using the O2 Wireless Internet and GPRS
services and I realise it may not be interested in fixing the "Inegrated
Wireless Lan? - Although it does work with a third party wifi card

Hi *****,
I am sorry to hear you are experiencing problems. VPN over the built in
WiFi does not work on the unit. We have fed this back to the relevant
channels.
The most recent ROM (1.11) is the final one for this unit so
unfortunately an official update to make this work is highly unlikely.
I am sorry I can not be of further assistance with this.

VPN
Hi
I never, ever managed to get my XDA IIs (Blue Angel) to bring up a VPN over wifi. It would work over GPRS, but pocket hosts was required.
On windows mobile, the vpn becomes the default route. Some bozo @ MS has decided that there is no internet connectivity at the other end of the vpn tunnel, so they think they need to drop the vpn when the user requires access to the internet propper.
Unfortunately, another bozo (possibly same bozo?!) decided that intranet (vpn) urls dont have periods (.) in them, and thus any url with a period must be an internet url (so drop vpn!).
This unfortunately means that all IP addresses are considered internet rather than intranet ips cause they have periods, so vpn gets dropped.
There is an 'exceptions' button under Connections-->advanced tab, here you can enter addresses that you wish to be interpreted as intranet rather than internet addresses. **You cannot add IPs here** IPs are always internet, not intranet !! Bloody MS.
Enter pocket hosts. Adding an entry to pocket hosts to link ip 192.168.1.1 to MY_BOX means that when you enter http://MY_BOX, windows mobile sees no period and thus does not drop the vpn --> Hurray!!
I think you can also add addresses with periods to pocket hosts, but you will also need to add these to the exceptions list in connections.
--
On WM2003 (blue angel in my case), it was possible to get 'connect to vpn' links to appear on the bubble that appears when you tab the aerial. With wifi, this option only appeared in the bubble if the wifi card in the device was set to 'Internet' rather than 'work' additionally, if it is set to 'internet' and not work, then it is not possible to connect to other ips in the same subnet (i.e local lan machines). Unfortunately, even though this link appeared, clicking it would always fail to connect the ruddy vpn. Likewise, if you had wifi connected you could goto the vpn settings, tap and hold and select 'connect' and it would always fail to connect.
To change between work and internet for your wireless card, choose Settings, connections, network cards, network adapters tab, and change the pull down.
As far as I know, on WM2003, VPN only ever worked successfully over a GPRS connection.
On WM5 (Universal) things have changed somewhat. Links to the VPN connections will never appear in the 'connectivity' bubble that you see when you tap the aerial icon(s). In order to connect the vpn on WM2005, it seems that you *must* head to the vpn settings, tap and hold the VPN and select 'connect'
The good news is that this *does* now work over wifi. Your wifi network adapter should be set to connect to 'work' otherwise you cant see the local resources. I dont know if WM2005 is sensible enough to realise that accesses to IPs in the same subnet dont need to be sent over the vpn? Connect your wifi first, then your VPN, if you connect the vpn on its own then it will start a 3G/GPRS connection even if wifi is available (but just not connected).
To connect over 3G/GPRS, you'll have to drop any wifi connection, and connect to 3G/GPRS, then head to the vpn settings tap and hold the vpn connection and select connect. If you select connect when no wifi/gprs/3G connection is active then it will try and connect to gprs/3G before bringing up the vpn.
Pretty crude to have to use the settings dialogue to initiate a connection if you ask me. But it does work Perhaps someone else knows better, but this works for me.
The only thing I have defined under 'My Work Network' is 2 VPN servers. Perhaps if you duplicate the modems from 'My ISP' then you'll get an easier method to connect. The only things I have under 'My ISP' are a 3G/GPRS connection and a CSD connection.
** Note though - that you will need pocket hosts **
Using the above, I can TS into my test box @ work, start windbg and see how my drivers are doing under stress testing!! Neat!
Nigel

Adding another expert to the list!
Cheers matey, will give it a go.
One thing that has always puzzled me though..... what the hell is the difference between "work" and "internet"; its just silly, if I set my wifi the either it connects?!?.
This to be honest, is a bit embarrasing, I work in IT and spend my days setting up networks, firewalls and comms kit, yet this bloody XDA and Universal puzzle the hell out of me. everything seems to be arse about tit!
Is there any analogy or *Proper* computer reference that would once and for all explain the difference?
*Skulks behind sofa embarrased*

General
update to my last post - 02 still havent responded
and Just to point out I have tried a SD slot wifi cad in the IIi and it works OK it's just the internal wifi that bugs out
in answer to some of the questions the exceptions rules act somewhat like
routes on a normal router but backwards for example
if you say connect *.*.*.* to wifi with an exception of
192.168.0.1
that means 192.168.0.1 will try and use the default isp connection rather than the work connection
it took me a little while to figure out this arse backwards scenario that Micro$l0th has inflicted upon us

Fix for VPN over wifi
O2 and HTC have come up with a cab file that seems to fix this for me
you need to be running the latest o2 rom or it doesn't appear to work
xda also need a soft reset after install, and on a couple of the devices
it needed a soft reset after the vpn setting where added
I recommend you contact o2 support as it's only a test beta
I don't have any details about what it actually fixes
and I haven't tested extensively to make sure it doesn't break anything else
let me know

have this i ssue been solved?
I am sitting here with a t-mobile mda(universal) and I can tget into my companies vpn ..i get onto gprs/3g fine..but as soon as i try the vpn it disconnects telling me that it is something wrong with the vpn server(user id pw) but after looking at the logs it has not even contacted the server. If I browse to the web interface of our vpn gateway i can get in just fine and it shows up in the logs.
So any know workable solution???

Sounds like the same problem
You'll need the file from O2 support
or T-mobile if they have the same problem
let me know if you can't get it and I'll post a link

pls post it!
t-mobiles site is at best confusing......
or maybe u can post the file?
is just a cab? (as said above)

VPN WIFI Fix
use at your own risk
on O2 device it needed latest rom before it worked
and a soft reset after you install it
let me know how you get on

thx alot!!
dont know what rom it has...one of the bosses at work got it 2-3 months ago from a MS rep...wich was too bad because we use qteks here in sweden...and they are much better at releasing new roms´s and patches...
how many new releases has it been for the universal?
anyway thx again!

This patch is for the xda IIi
Not sure if it's compatible with the universal
the xda IIi is also the alpine

erm.. ...i dun understand much about vpn....but I can access share folder using wireless...
what i did was to type the following in internet explorer.
//computername/
hopefully it helps...as i dun know much...
anyway..it can transfer file faster than using cable to sync ...i dun know why too

Yes !!! It works for me, after seeing so much forum and asking so much ppl. Tks.

Hi all,
Just wanna confirm about WM5... after connecting to the VPN setup on my xp pro... I notice that in my pc the server and client ip was shown correctly but in my atom both server and client shown as the same ip though I can ping both server/client ip from the atom to pc but ping from pc to atom timeout. Later I found out that there's a static hostname ppp_peer create for the host server in the atom's WM5. Browsing my home network tree in atom via VPN over wi-fi doesn't seems to work well as I've to manually \\mypcname\share. I've no problem browsing the network tree without VPN. Is this same server/client ip in WM5's VPN by default?

again... ipsec/l2tp or pptp vpn is crap... switch to openvpn...

IP Address, Active sync & corporate network security age

After having a good old search through this site, i cant seem to find any reference to my problem that Im experiencing at the moment so am taking the plunge and posting for the first time. I hope some of you experienced chaps out there can assist and stop me from pulling my hair out !
The problem :
Im attempting to connect my XDA Exec to sync with my PC at work. This is being prevented due to the fact my employer runs a security agent (CISCO) which prevents the two from connecting due to the Exec having an IP address assigned to it (169.254.2.2).
Is there any way to avoid this, as my employers are reluctant to alter there firewall settings to allow me in ? If not isnt this a bit of dumb idea from M$ as it surely must effect a whole lot of WM5 users on corporate networks ?
Thanks in advance
I don't think that there's much that can be done. The new version of ActiveSync works by creating a virtual network connection between your computer and your PPC. It's well known that if you're using a software firewall that you need to configure it to allow ActiveSync to work.
You could try syncing through bluetooth or IR, but they may set up a virtual network connection as well - in which case you'd have the same problem. They're also somewhat slower.

O2 XDA Mini S - PEAP WiFi

Hi I have reset my O2 XDA Mini S and run in basic mode (this maybe the problem but...)
I have my University WiFi settings and get as far as WPA/TKIP then PEAP can't do anything from this point on as it asks for a personal certificate.
Someone says they get a pop up asking for a login when tring to connect but I don't it just fails to connect.
Any ideas?
Have it connecting to my home WiFi no problem.
Seems not too many know about PEAP on WM5??
Anyway I hard reset XDA and soft reset to remove customisation and still no luck.
OK Some digging around http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42721&highlight=peap+certificate if you get the hack let me know
But it seems that my Uni should supply me with a certificate via Exchange (I think!) so wil go back and tell them. WM5 a bit new and I think they don't know what the requirements are.
I know the certificate server but obvioulsy it denies me access as I need to be on the Uni network to get in with my codes.
/ponder
Also found http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/pfximprt.html suggests you need a client peice of software but other info contradicts this and I don't see why my Uni will not be able to supply me with a certifificate even if they just point me to a web page someplace.?
/bump
This is kinda turning into a BLOG... Anyway... Was at Uni on Friday and was in a place that discovered a guest Uni unsecured WiFi spot which was different to the one IT have given me.
So got on that but it was unstable connection - then not a few seconds later I get prompted for login/password it but falied and said the certificate is not valid....?!?!
So my last hope is to wait to try active sync connection when IT come and install it to my PC which will connect me to the main network so will try and enroll on the phone to grab the certificate that way then try WiFi access.

VPN driving me crazy...

OK, I don't knkow what else to try here, hence the post!
I'm trying to get my XDA exec (Universal?) to connect to my work VPN. I've entered all the details exactly the same as they are on my laptop (which works) and yet when I try to connect, I get an error message saying "VPN Server problems. Verify your username and password, and try again. If the problem persists, turn the device off and try again." This message appears instantly, as though it is not even trying, and my GPRS connection terminates, without an error message, without a warning. What I think is happening is that as soon as I ask to activate the VPN, it disconnects the GPRS, and then the VPN won't work because of that. Which seems rather stupid.
I've tried rebooting, I've tried changing every setting in the VPN connection, I've tested the GPRS connection by visiting websites, I don't know what I can possibly be missing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This has absolutely killed my faith in this device. It stops synchronising my mail at least once a day, without warning, it has crashed in the past, destroying mails I was writing at the time, and I find it generally unreliable, unfriendly and considerably less useful than a BlackBerry. Sorry, but I had to say that, I'm tearing my hair out here...
im not sure if you can do VPN over GPRS you may require a wifi connection for that.
Hello faethor, fancy meeting you here!
I know on the XDA IIs it worked over GPRS, so it would surprise me if it didn't on the Exec, but perhaps you're right...
I don't care any more, fed up with the damn thing for today...
This is possible, but there are various possible problems.
It could be something as basic as you need to add your company web-site in the 'exceptions' list (Start, Setting. Connection (tab), Connections (icon) advanced, exceptions). e.g *.companyname.co.uk.
It is worth checking with your IT people if certain IP address ranges are also blocked (e.g. for extra security).
Network tech support are quite rubbish on this, and it took me, my former MD and our IT company several hours to get it sorted last time we tried this!!
The queston is do you need VPN for document view / transfer or is it just for email / contacts on the move (you mentioned Blackberry)?
If your company has MS exchange 2003 the exec sync's straight in using yout outlook web access settings (a tick box also needs to be enabled in the server) or you could use something like www.seven.com which I have had both personally and corporate which works brilliantly.
If it is full VPN you need, I can provide documentation or contact numbers which may help.
It may be that your VPN connection needs to be the GPRS settings (and using the APN vpn.o2.co.uk (you said you were using an XDA which is an o2 branded HTC device) and your conx to your server via proxy is your home server details?

the wifi problem always unsolved

Like already write, I'm looking to helps ref a singular problem in my ppc branded SB but with sw THC in english - I was buy it in thailand one month ago and until 20 of december everythink was ok, but...
I found that the ROM contain the: HTC TyTN 1.18.255.106 ExtROM WWE
The NETWORK MANAGER show me that the tytn is CONNECT to WIFI access point but in the CONNECTIONS always appear no any presence of WIRELESS SERVICE that I can select to use for browse my server , internet and/or skype call
If I use the usb connection there is connection, same by umts and gprs services
Really I don't unterstand what's happen!
I was already many time doing the hard reset but nothing is change!
What you think about?
May be that there are corrupted files that avoid to install few commands?
Regards Freddie
There are the other part of sw that are install in the device by the manufacturer or seller that are not include inside the rom place?
Thanks in advance for your helpings

go to setting >connections>network cards>
then
you will see a bunch of access points
when you see the one that says available
hold the styles down on it
tap connect
and you should be ok
also check the drop down menu on the bottom of the page
make sure its on both access points and whatever else it says
and also disable the cingular proxy
start>settings>connections>connections>setup proxy server>uncheck the uses proxy server to connect to the internet box
Sorry may be that I was wrong explaine you:
1. in the setting>connections>network cards = no problem my tytn find the access point and after my prompt connect without problem.
2. the problem is in the setting>connections>connections>advanced>select networks>my ISP>edit ... = where there are no tracks of the wireless network available to be select, in way to use the wifi connection that in setting>connections>network cards is ON
I wait your reply thanks
Black Eagle
black eagle,
I think I've undertand your question...
If you have found the WiFi access point and have gotten conected, there is no need to set a conection for that access point; At least, for me that it's not necesary.
When I go to a public place with wifi, or in my home LAN, just let the connections settings to "My ISP" without any changes (no new modem, nothing at all) and thats all, you can surf the net.

my problem solved
hi mablan,
thanx very much, fortunately i searched the forum for wifi and got ur post.
i too had the problem of getting good wifi connectivity over my adsl router witg my prophet( O2 neo) but not able to surf net in PIE. when i selected network as "My ISP" it all gone and now i am able to surf my adsl on neo, without any prblem.
thanx once again.
now only problem arises of autometically shifting/choosing of network for wifi and gprs. i remember it is stated somwhere in forum, i will make a try.
Hello mablan,
thanks for your interesting in my singular problem.
I understand what you mean but is not my case, even if my ppc in the setting>wireless lan>advanced>status result connected to the network, I cannot surf internet.
If I go to setting>networks cards i find my home hotspot that result waiting to connecting but ... always not connected
= in the wireless lan I am connected but in the network cards my connection don't exist - also in the connections>connections there is not the choice to select wireless network, don't exist
Hi BlackEagle, now I undestand your problem.
I'm sorry, I don't know what could be the cause of your problem.
Just a dumb question: Have you try to change the settings of your wireless network? I mean, in settings>connections>networkcards tap the name of the wn you want to use and change the settings of the Network key and 802.1x tabs...
If I found arround someplace something that can help you will let you know
regards and hope you find the answer..I'm sure someone here at the forum will help you

so?
i am having the same problem with windows M 6 so looking for solutions. how does it matter if someone else faced the same problem 2 years ago?
Its relevant because MS may not be offering the same software to download. I've noticed that some of the older solutions aren't any good for certain things anymore as the apps no longer work for the OS I'm using or that the app, though easily found a while ago, is no longer supported by certain sites.

wifi (WPA-PSK-String) problem in htc touch hd?

Hi Guys,
I guess this is my first post in this forum.
Does anyone have any problems connecting the HTC Touch HD device to a router with WPA-PSK String setting?
When I entered the details of the Wi-Fi setting, it stucks in the 'Connecting' status.
I did try disabling the security in my router and the device is connected successfully.
Help! Help! Help!
Any assistances will be much appreciated.
ak
Try using a shorter string and see if that helps.
I remember having trouble with my Wizard and WM5. A connection string that was too long would cause this.
My Touch HD connects fine with WPA-PSK, but cannot connect using WPA2, whereas my Wizard with WM6.1 connects WPA2 quite fine.
Anyone else have this problem?
thanks for your reply.
it is very strange though. I did try various settings of the password: 8 characters, 10 characters, 12 characters using WPA-PSK.
I cannot test WPA2 because my router does not support WPA2 .
hm.. ROM update probably
I have a 10 character wpa-psk string, on a US Robotics access point.
worked instantly.
How about the other settings, TKIP/AES etc?
no data encryption settings in my modem router. could that be a problem? But, my TyTn II is connected to the same modem router and I set it to WPA PSK String with TKIP encryption.
My modem router is quite old. I guess this December is his 5th anniversary .
I might try to connect to my neighbour wifi network tomorrow and check the connectivity.
Thanks guys. If any of you still have tips or instructions to fix this problem, that will be much appreciated.
ak
any update on this issue? help required
I am currently using a HTC touch HD Orange UK with the latest ROM from HTC. I also tried DavideUK 6.1 V6 and 6.5 V7.0. In all cases, I could only connect to public wifi networks but always failed to connect to any WPA-PSK routers.
P.S.: I did try enabling/disabling WPA functionality using advance setting/tweaking tools for WM6.X
Has any one manage to solve this one?
Do we know which NIC is in the Touch HD?
Is there any driver update available?
is the WPA-SPK encryption-decryption done via hardware, software or a combination of both?
Thanks for any provided information.
Solution!!! here for Orange UK unlocked handset
Hi Every one, I finally found a solution for the Orange UK unlocked handset and WIFI with WPA-PSK encryption.
It seems like a contradiction but the only way to get it to work is by reintsalling the orange packages & settings on the top of any ROM you are using (tested with stock rom 1.14, 1.19 and DavideUCK WM6.5 V8). So no way to get away from Orange for the moment.
here is how I proceeded:
- installed ROM 1.14, 1.56 then DavideUCK WM6.5 V8
- installed Orange_UK_by_rabdo_v1.6.cab ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311467) and Orangeworld_Fix_by_rabdo.cab (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316763)
P.S.: both seem required
- checked with Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3.cab that WPA is DISABLED (Yes it is right, I read on some post that status DISABLED was the solution).
now the rest is basic networking by setting password, static or dynamic IP/gateway/router & DNS.
Remaining questions to Rabdo, Davideuck and the developers here:
- What in those 2 orange cab files solved the problem?
- Do Orange HTC Blackstone have a different hardware than factories? or are they using a software solution to handle WPA-PSK encryption instead of hardware encryption?
- are other branded Blackstone suffering from the same issues?
a BIG THANKS to Rabdo for those packages!!!!!!!
P.S.: no Orange splash screen is included in thos CABs ;-)
Just checked with my HD. It can't connect with WPA/PSK. WPA2/PSK is fine irrespective of key length. Looks crazy. Since my router supports WPA2, I never checked this earlier.
I could never connect to WiFi at work where a long key with funky characters is used (WPA2, AES), and according to our admins no WM device has ever been able to do that. Every other device works fine. So it seems like a problem affecting Windows Mobile in general, not just Touch HD.
I think the Edit Box where U enter the key only allows ascii. If U can bypass it then it should be possible. those deep into WM programming might be able to help.
I've had the HD for about 6 weeks now and it's been working fine with my home WIFI, which is WPA2-PSK. But in the last few days it has stopped working for some reason.
It still says connected, but whenever i try to go online or even just update the weather, the program says it's not connected. It's driving me mad
I hadn't changed any of the settings, so i don't know why it's started playing up. I've triple checked everything and the only thing out of the ordinary that i can notice is that my network key is 8 characters and that's what i enter in the appropriate place, but then when i go back in to check it there are 13 characters in the box. Where are these extra ones coming from? I can't tell what they are because it's asterixed out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated because i'm fresh out of ideas!
Hi just have a new HD.
Everything works fine so far but i cannot connect to my router.
Its a brand new Dlink . Al my other devices connect perfectly (pc and htc diamond)
but my HD says its connected (shows IP etc...) but still i cannot connect to the internet or update the weather...
Any ideas ????
Ebola_virus,
Go to settings>Connections>Connections>Advances>Select Networks. Select My Work Network (For "Programs that automatically connect to internet use:")
Next time use search

Same problem here. This has been reported by too many people.. If you search you' ll find many many threads.
Worked fine, then without any change stopped working. WiFi reports it is connected but no program can use the internet.
Setting slider to full perfomance, using work instead of internet, enabling/disabling WAP security, hard resseting, reflashing nothing works!
At least one user reports "cycles" of good/bad operation without changing a thing !
I too am mad and wondering: anyone had it fixed through HTC service?
If you connect to an access point using the standard interface it will set encryption type as AES as standard (regardless of what your AP is set to)
If your access point is configured for TKIP encryption type then you need to manually go in and edit the settings like I have to in order for it to work.
hth.
Can connect but cannot surf
I have a wireless router that is set up using WPA-PSK. I can connect to the router with my HD, but when I use any browser nothing happens. When I go into the routers settings page I can see that my phone has an ip-nr but still nothing happens. Has anyone experienced this and solved the problem? Thanks.

I had exactly the same problem, followed your instructions (although didn't disable WPA in the advanced config tool, it was already disabled!!). It worked on reboot excellent, and I have a very long network key! Thank you very much for these instructions! :d

Wifi not working HTC HD2
Hi,
I am using HTC HD2.
I am presently in a university and we have a wifi network here. The wifi network can be accessed by entering a username and password. A proxy also needs to be entered in order to access the internet.
Most of the phones on the campus like iphone or other nokia and samsung phones are able to use the internet very easily. Setting for iphone users are as follows:-
1. Switch on wifi on your iphone
2. Select "Other..." in the list of networks
3. Enter "wifistudent" as the name of the network
4. Select security type as "WPA–PSK 2 Enterprise"
5. Put your username and password
And for Nokia E series the settings are:-
Create a new Connection Name - say e.g. wifi
Data Bearer: Wireless lan
Wlan network home: wifistudent
Advanced Settings (in options)
Enter Proxy Server Address (192.168.32.x) and Proxy Port Number (8080)
Network status: hidden
WLAN network mode: infrastructure
WLAN security mode: 802.1 xs
WLAN security settings:
WPA/WPA2: EAP
EAP plugin settings
1. EAP LEAP
[Options>edit]
User name: xxxxx
Prompt for password: no
Password: *****
2. EAP PEAP (disabled)
(all others disabled)
Based on above information, I want to ask you two questions:-
Question 1) I hope based on above settings for the other phones you can help me find how to configure wifi on my phone.
Question 2) Where do I enter the proxy server so that the wifi network uses the proxy server. Right now I was only able to set up a proxy server for GPRS connection. Not for my wifi connection.
I would quite thankful if you can let me know how to configure the wifi on my phone.
Regards,
Mohit Goyal
