Enugh my shi***ing here
1st u need program (activesync) to install files on your PDA cause files that have extension with exe. need that tool to install, u can't just copy file on the PDA and then run them , exept they have extension like cab.
So get your activesync (if u don't have it go to microsoft and find it)
connect via cabel, ird, bluetooth... and do it !
hope it helps

yes i did, first on my storage card and then i copied it to my documents folder, but the setup.exe doesn't do anything when i tap it.

Hi,
Just connect your device via Act.Sync to your PC copy the exe file to your PC, if you haven't done so, and run the exe file on your PC. This is th usual way to install new applications.
Good luck, M

The other option is to download the CAB file (if available). Then you can copy the CAB file to your device, click on it and it will install.
The only issue when installing CAB files this way, they generally install into the default location on your PDA (normally into RAM or main memory). If this isn't an issue then no problem but if it is you can download and install a program called "CAB Install" from here http://www.s-k-tools.com/fp/viewtopic.php?t=44
Run this app and you can then install your CAB files where ever you want.

You can't copy the file of the device because its in ROM.
The OS prevents files in ROM from being copied from the device because of something called XIP that is used.

!!!HELP!!! Problems installing applications to SD Card :'(

Hi.
I have a serious probelm
When ever I try to install anything to my SD Card through Active Sync, I just end up getting the .CAB file for the install file and whenever I click on it, it installs the program to the Main Storage memory :!:
What I do is this...
I connect my XDAIIi up with my computer and use active sync to sync them both. I just then click on any of the programs that I want to install, and it asks do you want to install blah blah to the default directory (or something like that) I click NO and choose my Storage Card. It then does the above :?
PLEASE could someone help.
I am using an XDAIIi with Active Sync 4. Up until now I have had no problems. I tred downgrading to Active Sync 3.8 but that still did not work.
Am I doing something stupidly wrong???????!!!!!!!
PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HELP!!!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!
I would greatly appreicate a reply as soon as posible.
Thankyou loads in advance,
Regards,
lydiachris
GURU'S NEEDED!!!
Please does anyone know?? There must be XDAIIi guru's out there somewhere!!!
Ohh..... how I wish I were one
did you try cabinst to install programs from your device to the storage card instead of using MS active sync......... ??
Ah Ha!!! Well done Just got that to work, I was trying to install Visual-IT London maps etc and I think they actually get extracted automatically to .CAB files, I have tried the bacIstall software and it works a treat Thankyou very much.
Cheers.
WHY on earth are these things ever simple?!?!

New MDA, installing.... noob quesitons.

Hi, I just bought my MDA, and i been searching n i found registry wizard, how do i install that its cab file? in my MDA? what kinds software i need on my pc, to transfer stuff? and how do i back up my whole phone or something so if something goes wrong i could always restore? can someone ask my few quesiton. thank you soo much in advance.

^^^ just right click on the cab file. and select cabviaacticesync. then when you sync your mda it will install. you can delete any programs off your phone in the settings.
try that. that helps for people that cant figure it out. but all you would normaly do is move the cab file to you mda.
are you using windows vista or xp? if xp, download the latest version of active sync from Microsoft.com. If using vista get the windows mobile device center from the same place. Connect by following instructions, then explore the advice and drop the .cab file somewhere on it. Pick up your phone; open file explorer; and click on the file you put there. .cab files do everything themselves.
As far as backing everything up, i dont know the best way to do it. Just put stuff on your comp, thats what i do.
oh and next time, please try and search. Other people are going to yell at you

Trouble when installing .CAB file on my Wing

Hi, all,
As a lot of you did, I got my wing and started to follow Nyer78's post "All you need on your wing" to try to optimize the phone, thanks to Nyer78.
But after I copied the first 6mb pool.cab to my phone and tapped it, I got an error message as the following:
"There is no application associated with "6mb pool". Run the application first, then open this file from within the application."
Could you help me to solve this? I'm very new to XDA and WM, and very eager to see my wing fly.
TIA.
Alan
You don't run the .bat file on ur actual phone.
Plug your phone up to activesync .. copy over the .CAB file and install it. I think you need to soft reset ... then once your phone connects to activesync again, you run the .BAT file on ur PC

You can drag and drop CABs there, or ever better, associate .CAB files with it in Vista, so, all you need to do to install a CAB is a double click (while having ActiveSync on of course)
wow so fast reply.thank u so much..i hope it works on vista.
i have tried this already but not working on vista..its says file cant be accessed!!even in admin mode

Doesn't work for me. Get access denied. And what's worse: you can't uninstall the damn thing.
Edit:
Found it, just remove the Send to entry and delete cabinst.exe from Windows folder.

plzzz help
even i am getting that file access denied.what to do???
Having recently upgraded to Windows 7, I bumped into this issue as well and googled my way to this thread, but found no solutions like you guys.
It seems that all would be well if I turned off User Account Control, which, however, I don't really want to.
Thus I did more searches and found the following article:
Selectively disable UAC for your trusted Vista applications
Although the steps described in the above article did not prevent a UAC prompt from popping up, my installation of WinCE CAB Installer works now.
