Just upgraded my XDA II to O2 ROM 1.72 and I'm trying to recreate the bond for bluetooth ActiveSync. When I upgraded to 1.60 this was easy, so I've tried to do the same so I can surf the web at home for free.
I made a mistake though: I created a new bonded device in bluetooth before I clicked the 'Connect via bluetooth' menu item in ActiveSync. Now when I click that, nothin happens. No error, no dialog box, nothing. When I upgraded before I clicked the ActiveSync option before making the bond and that way it worked.
I've tried deleting the bond with the server from the XDA II and then going back into ActiveSync to the 'Connect via bluetooth' option, but the same thing happens. The XDA II isn't even opening the COM port.
Can anyone help?
*bump*
Update: I did a hard reset and tried setting up Bluetooth ActiveSync again... No luck. It just doesn't work. I can bond to the PC over BT but nothing else.
Can anyone help? Please?

Is there a way of installing Active Sync without installing or upgrading my computer to Windows XP SP2?
Does your XPsp2 installer not like your XP?
Why would it not work?
I installed ActiveSync 4.1 on an XP system without SP2 and have had no problems.
How about some error messages? Anything in the logs?

Hi. Thanks for the response everyone.
Where can I find version 3.7?
Active Sync 4.0 and 4.1 requires Windows SP2. The problem arises after I upgraded to Windows SP2. I can't connect to my WiFi access point anymore. I disabled every firewall there is and I still could not connect to my access point. Reset the computer and still could not connect. My TH55/E1 and EXEC can, with the exception of my computer. Now I can install Active sync 4.0 and 4.1 without problems but not having the internet access is my down fall. So after installing some stuff I usually run the restore option from previous. So you guys can imagine the trouble I am going through.

Sounds like very strange behavior. I'd suggest you try to fix your PC rather than installing an old version of ActiveSync. (Your Exec, after all, requires ActiveSync 4.x to synch Windows Mobile 5.)

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/downloads/as-sysreq41.mspx
For those who don't need 4.0 or 4.1., 3.7. or 3.8. are available here:

Here are some troubleshooting tips from Microsoft:

Thanks Triband81.
Right now I've installed all the applications I want so I restored back prior to Windows SP2.
No problem, so you're using 3.8?

No, right now, I've installed all the applications I need using active sync 4.1.
I still could not connect my computer to the internet, so I restored back prior to SP2. I don't need to sync anyway, not unless I have to install something in the future.

No error messages. It is as if, Windows SP2 cut off my internet connection totally. I have no problem installing nor using Active sync 4.1. I just could not connect to the internet after I upgraded to windows SP2.

I have no idea as to why I could not install Active Sync 4.1 without Windows SP2, it might be a requirement. But it is odd that you were able to install yours.
XP SP1 and Async working fine, both on the lappy and the home computer although im using version 4.0
Whats the exact problem tha you cannot connect to your AP with SP2??
A Commen problem is that the PC cannot get an IP Adress. If this is your problem, install SP2 and after that the "KB893357-v2" Update, this is an optional patch that brings WPA2 and other features to XP, and it fix this WLAN Bug. Patch is here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=662bb74d-e7c1-48d6-95ee-1459234f4483
And yes you need ActiveSync 4.1 for Mobile 5

Thanks very much lutzs! I'll try it right now. I'll post back if it works.
I have my settings on automatic, so it'll detect my access point, that is without SP2 installed and my internet works.
But as soon as I upgarde to SP2 so I can install Active Sync 4.1. My computer can't access the internet saying: "LOW SIGNAL". I tried manually assigning IP addresses, now I saw that windows was able to connect, but still Internet explorer won't work.
Thanks for this update link. I'll upgrade again to Windows SP2, then install the file from the link you suggested. I'll post back with the result. Wish me luck!

Hi lutzs,
I tried this today and it still did not work. Maybe I need to fully reformat my computer. We'll see if I'm in the mood for that. It takes an entire day to reformat my computer and I hate to waste time. Although, I already tried that once before and did not work. Anyway, I restored back to basic windows xp without the SP2 update. Thus, I don't have Active Sync installed since version 4.x requires SP2.
I am having a problem with Activesync 3.8.
It tells me my device (MDA Compact) is connected, but when I try to explore it I get the following message!
"Critical communication services have failed to start. Try resetting the mobile device, and then connect again."
I have tied to remove it and re-load it.
Any relevant help would be most useful
I am having the same problem.
I tried using ActiveSync 4.1 recently, only to find it can only be used with the new Windows Mobile 5.0. I uninstalled it and reinstalled 3.8. Ever since then I have had this issue. I've tried removing it again, rebooting, then reinstalling. I've tried downloading a fresh copy of 3.8 in case it was corrupt... All to no avail. I can't even open ActiveSync properly. It appears in teh task bar and can connect to devices, but it will not sync, and I can't browse teh device.

Activesync 4.1 is not just for WM5, I am running 4.1 on my Jam with WM2003SE and it works like a charm.
Hi,
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
I brought the o2 Xda Mini S yesterday, and have just got round to installing it. I have come up against a problem as I plug in to my pc, as I plug in the usb it does the usual "Found new Hardware" but I cannot locate the driver "Generic RDNIS" does anybody know where I can download this driver????
Thanks in advance,
Ross
do you have activesync installed? normaly activesync installs this driver when a pocketpc with wm5 is connected.

Yeah I do ( 3.8 ), cannot use 4.1 as I need to update my pc to install that, and windows updates ruins some of my applications.
cheers
Hi - I think you we struggle to connect a WM05 PPC if you do not install the latest activsync (4.1). My Mini S would not even connect reliably with the software that came with the device (O2 XDA - the disc has ActivSync 4.0!!!) as soon as I upgraded to 4.1 it's much more relible, not perfect! and certainly not as good a my back up device - HP2210 running WM2003 this device never failed to connect with 3.8.
Sorry but I think you will need to update your PC somehow.
Unless anyone knows a trick to get around this problem. :?
Regards,
Chris.
It won't work with 3.x, you need 4.1 installed.
