Req: Universal notification queue deleter - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Folks, the Universal is desperately in need of a notification queue manager - one that AUTOMATICALLY deletes duplicates, and \\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\SCRIPT... entries.
PocketMechanic identifies duplicates, but does not clean up automatically every night. Scarybear cleanup apps only target common XDA duplicates - not the Universal's sddeamon dup.
It's a big ask, but would someone be prepared to whip sopmething up quickly. I'd undertake to promote it savagely in the xda-forums, along with encouragement to contribute to xda-developers in lieue of a shareware fee.
Features should include:
- Autorun every night
- Find duplicates and delete
- Find matches to user input and delete
- A text kill-file of matches, so that we (on this forum) can add entires and upload new kill files (presently sddeamon and the above script notifications are proliferating on an almost-clean JasJar after a hard reset)

bump
Anyone know if there may be something in the works somewhere?

Use Pocket Mechanic...it does it all

It's almost like we either need an automisation of the pocket mechanic function, or a butchered antivirus type app where we replace the virus definitions with a list of notifications we want to get rid of.

What are those NamedEvents notifications?
Are they safe to delete?

I found this elsewhere
Some of you may have noticed these "\\.\Notification\NamedEvents\Script..." entries in the notification queue database that seem to build up for unknown reasons. Well, I just realized that these entries are created for each event where the "Flash Light for" option is enabled.
To prevent these entries from building up, disable the "Flash Light for" option using the "Sounds & Notifications" settings for specific events, i.e. "Messaging: new text messages".
But if you prefer to have this LED alert enabled, avoid selecting "No Limit" as this results in corresponding notification q database entries to expire only approx 42 days later. They do not get cleaned up sooner thus, the build-up.

what are all these notifications

I am using a trial version of MemMaid and am confused with all the items in the Notification Queue. I have no duplicates but have 18 items all for differing dates and times which are lall isted as
\\.Notifications\NamedEvents\SCRIPT:0x0
The dates and times do not have any significance to me,
Can any one tell me what these are likely to be and if it is safe to delete them?

alarms, calendar events (appointments, etc.) best would be to export it, attach the file, and let us have a closer peek - there's several that need to be running for regular operation
I've attached mine - should be clean of any events
Is thare a way to export the notifications to an external file using MemMaid or other 3rd paty software? All the \\.Notifications\NamedEvents\SCRIPT:0x0
items are set for weird times e.g. 04:09:33, 07:24:25, 07:25:23.I know I have never set any alarms or appt. reminders at these times.
I have looked through your attachment and can match up most items with what is displayed in MemMaid on my vario but am still no nearer understanding the above notifications.

Take a look on this topic. It makes the alarm goes nuts. Anyone can explain how this notifications are created?

Eliminating all the "No Limit" settings eliminated my buildup.

Yes you can!
My the use of Memmaid is an option for you, there you can scan the notification que and delete duplicates.
I used checkNotifications (it's free) and cleared them all down anyway.
Phone seems a bit snappier to, so I've turned off 'unlimited' light flashing notifications.

Did you delete the clocknot and calnot notifications? That would do it. I think they meant to delete the
\\.\Notification\NamedEvents\Script
type notifications, which are remnants of "no limit" notifications from messaging, phone and the like. You can stop the buildup by going to Settings/Sounds and Notifications and eliminating all "No Limit" notifications
Thanks for the Help. I notice that the notification alarm will come back the next day.
yesterday i've deleted all duplicate clock.exe notifications and all SCRIPT notifications (i've had ~50 of them!). so far, everything works ok, at least wizard's alarm woke me up in the morning.

Alarms stop working or repeat constantly - some advice

I know this topic has probably been done to death, but I just thought I'd share my experiences with a couple of alarm issues I've have with the Universal (aka my M5000).
I have had both the dreaded forever repeating alarm issue, as well as the disappearance of the alarm/calendar event notification dialog and alarm. They are, I believe, actually related. If you trigger a repeating alarm, while suffering from the missing notification problem, you'll never be able to turn the repeating alarm off.
In my experience, the missing alarm notifications are related to a bad entry in the notification queue, not necessarily the duplicate entry issue. Whenever I've lost alarm notifications, a quick perusal of the notification queue will show a calendar, task or alarm event that no longer relates to an actual live entry in the calendar. For example, you may have a task related alarm event in the queue, for a task you have long since deleted. This 'bad' entry essentially clogs up the queue, so no new notifications are received.
Delete the rogue entry and you should be back in business.

I just ran into this issue today (reminders not triggering), how do you suggest I review and delete the notification queue? In the past I had tried using the Scary Bear Check Notification tool and didn't know what to delete and what to keep and ended up deleting everything (including my ability to Activesync).
Is there a simple way to do this or do I need to take another swing with ScaryBear?
The rule of thumb when dealing with Notification Que is always backup first before deleting anything. Second thing to remember after performing a hard reset and installing every application you want (without setting any alarms up) is to remember or make a list of the Notification Que present, because basically those are the basic Notification Que that should always be present for a trouble free Universal. Just remember that list and anything that is being added is most likely the culprit causing the trouble. Lastly, after installing any application, always check the Notification Que list to see if the app that was installed is adding anything on the list. This should give you an idea whether the newly installed app requires a Notification Que.
Repeating Alarms
Can I stop these infuriating alarms without performing a hard reset?
I think they are caused by soft resets.
How do I view/edit the alarm/notification queue or duplicate entry your refer to.
I have tre-reg editor if that helps. but where do I look?
Thanks
You can clean the duplicates in the notifivation queue using a 3rd party application such as Omega One's Pocket Mechanic. There are others that are free, I am sure you'll find them if you do a search on "notification queue" in the forum.
Edit: Here's one http://scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html
Thanks for that. Scary Bear did it. But there are so many other entries that up in red. God! Can't delete them all in case I remove something important

Software to record number of SMS sent?

Hi guys n gals,
Anyone know if there exists any software that will allow me to c how many SMS i have sent each month?
Cheers in advance,
Immortal
pocketMax PhoneAlarm can do just that. It was meant to control your phone profiles. But comes with a powerful billing tool too. Can calculate your monthly bill and customise the billing including SMS send/receive cost, free minutes, monthly charges, credit limits, peak cost, offpeak cost, etc etc.
thnx for the suggestion, i tried it but didnt like it much, too complex for my liking, i only want a simple solution!
Thnx for the heads up anyway!
DKToday counts your minutes and sms. The other features can be disabled from the options. You can configure it by going to start-settings-system-today-items, click the today plug-in and then tap options. Very small and easy solution. I have attached the current version, but I don't remember if this version has the exe file in it or only the .dll. If the latter is the case, then search this forum for the thread "is there a call minute timer available for" in the Himalaya forum and get an older version from there, than replace the dll with the one in the file I attached.
Cheers Koksie, thats what im looking for.
One question, any idea on how to dismiss a missed call without dialing it again?
Hi ImmortalU, I don't think this is possible. At 0.00 it automatically starts a new day and then your missed call disappears... You can however try to disable the line that shows missed calls. If you go to the options menu op the today plug-in you can choose which lines to show. Possibly disabling one of the lines will remove the missed calls line.
how come it doesnt work on my mini? the sms counter stays at 000
You have to enable sms notification first. DKToday does not count the sms you have sent from POutlook, but counts the incoming sms delivery notifications. Dkot ( the writer) could not find another way to measure sms sending. No problem for me, I like to have a delivery notification anyway.
To do this you have to edit the registry but an easier way is to install the cab I attached and copy the cpl file found in the attached zip file to your /windows folder. With the second file you get a control panel applet in your start-settings-system that enables you to switch sms delivery notification on or off. The first file creates the registry settings that the cpl will work with. You can also manually enable sms delivery notification for each message you send in your messaging account. After creating a new text message, go to menu-options-and tick the box. However, this needs to be done again for each message you send. The two files attached will automatically handle notifications for each message.
great. thanks. my only problem now is if the delivery notification is charged to me by my operator.
Too bad for you! Luckily in Holland these delivery notifications are free. You could contact Dkot for help. good luck!
thanks for the quick replies koksie
you're welcome, I am sorry that you are charged for these notifications. Phone Alarm from PocketMax (I think) or Phone Dashboard can also count minutes and sms, but not freeware and these are large apps with much more functionality than I need. perhaps they fit your needs, you can always try them of course.
thanks for the info. ill try them out.
hi everyone, fyi if you want to clear a missed call you need to erase the entry in the call history, DK uses this list for the call entrys.
help me in getting some way of counting send SMS on smartfone
For a application i need to have access to check the total number of SMS send from the phone so that on next power on i Can check the SMS send and take start some application..

Cannot clear notifications - XDA Mini S

I somehow missed the "Dismiss" command on a couple of wake-up alarms last week and now I keep getting the alarm notification sounds and can't find any way to stop them.
I get the alarms every time that I re-start the phone (which I have to do after ending an ActiveSync session).
I have not installed the latest firmware yet, because I don't have the time to back-up all of my settings & shortcuts, so I just want to stop the notification sounds without major disruption.
I've tried all the combinations of alarm and notification settings that I can find and it makes no difference.
I presume that non-dismissed alarms are stored somewhere and keep firing-up whenever the phone is re-started, but how can I stop them?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
PS, I don't have any registry editing software.
Use the attached software (install via activesync) to clear duplicated notifications. In options/settings both boxes need to be checked. If i still wont go after this I found sktools sorts out stubborn duplicate notifications http://s-k-tools.com/

Thanks Mark
When you say to install via ActiveSync, do you mean to have an ActiveSync connection with the phone and then run the executable on the PC?

Check Notification
I've installed the program and get a long list of events.
In the Application column, a number are NULL, but most entries are sddaemon.exe, plus some calupd.exe, CALNOT.EXE, CALENDAR.EXE, clocknot.exe, repllog.exe.
I have 144 events.
When I click the Clear button, it processes the events and then the program gets stuck on Event 145 of 144.
I seem to be able to clear the events one at a time, which is extremely laborious.

You should only clear duplicate notifications - some of those notifications listed are important to the normal running of the phone. Make sure both checkboxes are ticked under options. If there is a stubborn duplicate notification that won't shift use sktools that should do it.

Oops !
I cleared all notifications before I saw your message.
What can I expect to go wrong with the phone and can I fix it?
Thanks
delete the NULL notifications by hand, tap on them and choose delete. after that, just press clear and all other duplicates will be removed automatically.

If the phone is still working then fine - soft reset hopefully the important notifications will return - all those marked calendar are for reminders of appts/events so you will need to set the reminders again. The actual events should still be there.

Repeat notifications for text and email messages

Repeat notifications for text and email messages
Under HKCU/ControlPanel/Notifications find the following keys for Email and Text messages:
A877d65Axxxxxxx
A877d65Bxxxxxxx
Also find Key 15F11F90xxxx for reminders.
Copy the Options value from the Reminders key and overwrite the options value in both email and text message keys with this value (1073741832)
Once you do this, go to start - settings - sounds and notifications - notifications.
Under events, select new email message OR new text message and you'll notice that the repeat option that was greyed out is now enabled and can be selected.
Most of this was already posted from back in 2007 but there is nothing posted to resolve the following issue.
However - Once you get a new text message and it reapeats or is read it still repeats. Anyone figure out how to fix this annoying issue? Looking for some help.
I think the reason that the repeat notifications were never included by default is because they suck!!
The only way I know to get them working reliably (and a whole lot more besides) is to use the cheap-not-free application called AlarmPal from "the makers of PhoneAlarm" - check out this link for more details. My favourite function of AlarmPal is that you can tell it to STFU while you're sleeping
HTH,
Mark.
