Anyone got Skype going properly? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi, I am trying to run Skype for Pocket PC on the Universal with Windows Mobile 2005. I get the following issues:
1) On booting sometimes I get an error message: 'Cannot connect to service ... \Storage Card\...Skype'
2) When trying to dial a number directly from the 'Call with Skype' menu option in Cotnacts, I get a window pop up with, "The file 'Skype' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found..."
3) How can I make private calls through the earpiece instead of the loudspeakers which everyone can hear?
4) Is it possible to use my Bluetooth headset to make Skype calls and if so how?
5) If I try to open Skype, nothing happens, unless I close all other progs in memory first! (Shouldn't WM2005 do this for me?)
Once all these are overcome, I *can* make calls, but it's a heck of an effort!

1). I get a similar one saying "Cannot execute \Storage Card\...\Skype.exe but that's because I uninstalled it. I just need a fix for that.
2). Not a clue I'm affraid.
3). Mine always goes through the earpiece, do you use your Exec in laptop mode or XDA mode? I hope you know what I mean by that.
4). Not as far as I know.
5). Something similiar happens to me, except it just takes time. Sometimes it's instant, sometimes it takes a bit of time.

Thanks!
2) I find this doesn't happen if Skype is running, so I guess it's designed to be running all the time ... only it does :? (see #5)
3) It was in Xda mode, like a palmtop.
5) I am also finding Skype will just quit while I'm dialling a number in the Skype keypad. Not very reassuring. Again I assume it's memory.

Is it installed on your memory card or Exec?

Did anyone find a solution to the "Cannot Execute Skype..." error message?
I installed, then uninstalled Skype, but now I get an error message every time I wake the XDA up, which states:
'Cannot execute/Program Files/Skype for Pocket PC/ Skype.exe'
I've checked the startup folders and there's no sign of anything Skype related. If someone could tell how to get rid of this, I'd be eternally grateful!

Did you try the latest version that was released yesterday? They say they acknowledged and resolved this particular error.

Use memmaid to delete it from the notify list

Sometimes skype does not start on mine.
But then I stop all running process and it works.
It looks like it's not able to allocate enough memory, but no error message is shown.

Thanks all!
I installed the latest version of Skype and memaid. The error message has gone.

Unable to answer call - SOLUTION

Hi!
I have been struggling with the "Unable to answer call" message for quite a long time now. For those of you who might not know: When you receive a call, the phone is ringing and try to answer with the green button, the phone just displays this message and the caller gets a busy tone.
I have an i-mate JAM, which I upgraded with i-mate ROM, before it I had an i-mate XDA II, but I have always had the "unable to answer call" problem on all my machines, on all my ROMs.
After a lot of experimenting, finally I decided to uninstall the built in IA Caller ID software (which is incorrectly referenced as Photo Contacts in the start menu). Uninstalling was not a straightforward thing to do, but I will explain later. After uninstalling I installed Photo Contacts Pro 2.0 (which is, as I say NOT the same PhotoContacts that is bundled with the phone!! it has only the same name, but completely different application) Since that, everything works fine!!
So, about how to uninstall the built-in CallerID:
1. Maybe it is enough if you just disable it in the options... I am not sure.
2. I chose to hunt for its files and deleted them all. I downloaded an IA CallerID installer, looked into the package, found out what files is uses, and deleted them from my PDA.
3. Or alternatively, if you are not scared of a hard-reset, here you go:
--a. Do a hard reset
--b. When you have set up the touch screen, before the application installer begins, press reset quickly
--c. Now, you have a clean machine, without any applications (except for the default PocketPC ones). You don't even have an MMS client ant other stuff like that.
4. Go to File explorer, there should be a directory called Extended ROM
5. Install all apps there except for the CallerID app.
That's all.
Hope it helps.

smsengine error - no incoming texts!

Hi there,
Can anyone help me with an odd sms problem?
After installing some programs to try and back up my text messages from my xda exec, which were unsuccessful, I've since uninstalled them and now discovered I'm not recieiving any incoming text messages... only the network voicemail 901 messages ever get through, but whenever a text message comes in I get a dialogue appear saying
"smsengine.exe
The file 'smsengine' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file."
when "ok" is clicked, the dialogue closes, then when the pocket outlook is opened I get a small dialogue box saying
"SendMyMessage
SendMessage failed.
TimeOut!"
Obviously I can't ever see what the message was, it just never gets displayed in Pocket Outlook (presumably due to the error above )
Any Ideas what I can do? is smsengine.exe a standard WM5 program, if so, can somebody find it on their machine, copy and email it to me, and tell me where to save it to?
Or do I need to muck about in the registry?
I can't reset my phone to factory defaults because I have some really, really really important text messages relating to my employment which was why I started this mucking about trying to back up the messages in the first place... so I'm really stuck now, and I'd really appreciate if someone could offer some advice on what the best approach would be.
hi,
I've heard of smsengine.exe afaik its not a standard wm5 file i'd say whatever programs you installed to backup are the cause of your problems.
I'd reinstall the programs and remove 1 at a time to see which is the cause
What programs did you install?
solved - thanks - any other sms backups that might work?
Thanks Deadmetal
Strangely I'd already tried uninstalling, with no luck, but tried reinstalling, then removing, and eventually the problem seems to have fixed itself using this proceedure. very odd!
The program I installed was smsOrganizer by zedsoft
http://www.zedsoft.net/
Which doesnt seem to work on the Exec for some reason, even though it says its WM2005 (which I presume is WM5 - if I'm wrong with this assumption it might explain why it messed it up <grin>)
Can anyone recommend a good (free) tool to backup sms messages under WM5 that I can use?
Thanks for the help
Derek
Ah! smsorganiser! Yeah I thought the software you had been using was that. I've had several problems using it but it does look a decent piece of software if the bugs ever get ironed out!
the problem keeps on!

Incoming File/Bluetooth Problem

Hey evry1. I've got my Mogul running the "official" 6.1 update and everything was working fine until i noticed that i cant recieve any "incoming" bluetooth files anymore. I can add/connect/send files and pics to other phones, but when someone tries to send me something, their phones all say "unable to connect". I dont see any incoming notifications on my phone screen and i have them added on my "known devices" list. Anyone have any ideas? I did a hard reset and reinstalled my programs and still the same issue. Appreciate any info...!!
This is normal. Incoming OBEX is disabled by default in all sorts of Windows Mobile phones for some reason. I should tell you to search because this has been covered many times, but here are the registry keys:
HKLM\Services\OBEX
(Change the "Keep" setting to "0")
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Obex
(Change "IsEnabled" to "1")
thats the thing, i did search prior to my post and my registry does have the entries you posted and i still dont get any incoming beams..not quite sure what the deal is
You do have the accept all incoming beams tab checked right?

See I have some of the same problems you are having - both with the mogul and with the touch.
but I cant even SEND contacts or pictures at this point, let alone recieve them.
I used to be able on 6.0 to open a contact.. hold the stylus on them - click on send and click bluetooth and presto - sent.. I cant do that now..
Supposedly there is another fix around xda according to another tech that I talked to during the HTC training we had yesterday.. and btw - the htc rep had no idea there was a mogul / touch bluetooth issue.. jerkoffs..
anyhow - thoughts? comments? Links to the fix that lets me send photos and contacts via bluetooth?

Bluetooth not receiving files, wont receive anything!

I can send files but not receive with bluetooth. I am paired up with my mates phone, he can see me, ive ticked the receive incoming files box, ive tried with and without the 'authentication passkey required' box ticked. I installed something 'obex inbox' but that did squat all. any ideas??
I had the same issue pal, in the "obex inbox settings" make sure that the default download directory points to an ACTUALLY EXISTING directory. If it doesn't then type in an existing path (i.e. "\Storage Card\[a folder of your choosing that actually exists]). Browsing did not work for me, i had to manually insert the path. I guess it is probably a localisation's issue, but after this little trick everything came back to normal and i could send/receive files without any problems. Hope this works for you
Hi mate! This also happened to me after installing an application that i think is not compatible with xperia and i just hard reset my phone to fix it.
Can you explain in details what you did to correct the problem? I would really appreciate it and thanks in advance.
<error in post, removed>
Where can i find the "obex inbox settings"?
Yes i have the same problem. I am not sure if i had installed a programm that isn't compatible with xperia. I hav installed some games and some progs. Can i solve the problem by unistalling the progs or have i also to do a hard reset??
PS: Sorry for my bad englisch.
it won't do you any good as that is what i have done also. let just wait for MacCarron to further explain what he did or if you can't wait just hard reset your phone but be sure to backup of your contacts first.
When im in Setting>Connections>Obex Inbox, I cannot find 'Settings'. The two soft keys at the bottom just display whatever program is running 'benneath' it. When i press on the three dots '...' next to the 'File store path' text box nothing happens. In this text box there is already the path '\Storage Card\FTP' and I have manually created a folder 'FTP' in my storage cards root directory. Did you guys have this same problem?
I still cannot receive bluetooth files!
Why canĀ“t I find this menu "Setting>Connections>Obex Inbox" ??
You need to download it and install it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=140860&d=1230506044
It sounded really odd to us when we tried the Bluetooth, but the magic word is Beam, you need to go to Setting -> Connection ->Beam -> and tick the box "Receive all incoming beams.
No installs or downloads anything else needed for me. I think it's the same for the HTC handset, maybe for all Windows Mobile phones, correct me if I am wrong, would be interesting to find out.
I have ticked the box, but nothing happens. I still can't receive anything.
I also have tried Obex Inbox. I changed the settings, but that doens't help.
Is here somebody that has another idea instead of a hard reset? Probably unistalling all programms that aren't compatibele with Xperia.
Does anyone know how i can find out which programm is compatible and which isn't??
Please help.

as i've told you before uninstalling apps will not make any difference mate because i've tried it before until i came to the point that all that was left was the original apps in my xperia. anyway maybe others can share their experience too including a solution. as for now after the hard reset i am more careful with the apps i'm installing as reading every comments of all users and being sure that it is really compatible with wm 6.1 and xperia

Have you tried "revisiting the box"? It has a habit of unticking itself, it si on mine anyway.
I have been using the OBEX Inbox cab...
I love it!! No problems with on my X1i generic UK ROM!
On the OBEX file transfer problem here is a little insight from a problem I had!!
I installed PocketMax Phone Alarm. And I started to have the exact same Problem!! But I still could active sync too!!
What I found out, it was messing with the the OBEX Service Mask Setting!!
So to allow OBEX File transfers to work correctly.
You must make sure these setting are correct in the registry!!
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Obex\
:IsEnabled- 0x1(1)
:ObexServiceMask- 0x3(3)

Possible Solution! (If your using Phonealarm)
I've had the same problem with not being able to receive bluetooth files on my xperia.
Turns out its PhoneAlarm thats blocking them.
Under Profiles, make sure the setting "Activate IR" is on.
yes, there's no need to install anything just to receive and/or send files over bluetooth.
when you attempt to receive, do you see any pop up message prompting if you want to receive (if you have previously click yes, then it'll be default for subsequent receiving from the same device)
if your device is receiving but you ended up seeing no files in your folder, it could be that your device is running out of storage.
