Any way to rename a soft key?

I have just got my first Windows Mobile 5 Device, a MDA Vario. Its great, but Ive put Photo Contacts Pro on it, and changed the home screen soft key from contacts to Photocontactspro. Thing is, the app name is too long and gets cut off to "photo con"
Is there anyway to rename this softkey?
Thanks
You can do that in the registries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112 - right key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113 - left key
Values:
Default=Button label
Open=command
Cool, thanks
Hmmm
I wonder if you can help me.
I tried VITO ButtonManager and it has well and truly screwed up my softkey definitions for the Today Screen.
The right one seems to change what is does and the left one does not work at all.
I have disabled Button Manger but still cannot get the softkeys to work again.
How would I reset them to their original values?
Please bear in mind I have NEVER changed a registry key before?

Remapping SoftKeys
Robster, there is a complete incompatibility between our Wizard and VitoButtonMapper soft.
For interested people there is a specific soft to change Right and Left key applications (for instance, the right softkey is now launching TomTom instead of Contact).
Juste time to find where I may share this soft with you !
You could just follow the registry tweaks up top
It's not much more difficult from using Windows Explorer and notepad

remapr softkeys for teh phone??

Is there any way to remap the softkeys for the phone. Basically I want to remap the contacts softkey to go to a link I have made that opens the default contacts vs. the PI contacts. I have done it for the today screen, but can't find the reg entry for the phone. Any help would be great.
Thanks

where is the Contacts application?

Hello there,
Can someone please provide a definite answer. Where is the Contacts application and how to run it? I've tried many variations... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
You apparently remapped the Contacts button on the Today screen by installing Nadavi End Key, whatever that is. Hard reset your device and the Contacts button will reappear and then be careful what you install.
Until then, try starting the Phone app and the left soft key hopefully will be Contacts; or after ending a call you should get a screen with a Contacts button.
PocketCM V.17 just came out...
You could try loading it and giving it a testdrive. Maybe it will work out better than the default contacts app. Might even re-map the contacts button correctly for you too.
Just a thought...
Contacts shortcut is
/windows/AppButtons/Contacts.LNK
Ive uploading the Reg key for the Right Soft key (contacts) if you want it. Just use a reg editor like PHM Registry Editor to import it.
found a solution
I ended up using the link
Windows\Start Menu\Contacts.lnk
Many thanks to all of you for your assistance

You can use HD Tweak to remap these 2 soft keys

Right & left SoftKeys can be changed using CERegedit while synced to PC, or PHM Regedit directly on your phone.
The keys in question can be found here:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila
I have mapped
HomeLSKPath to \Windows\tasks.exe
with a corresponding link name at
HomeLSKText of Tasks
There are ways to map to other Manila shortcuts like All People.

Once settling on what I wanted, I have made a little cab from this site:

So now everytime I flash, I just run this cab to change the registry so I get my preferred home page links back.
There is a limit to what can be customised.
In Settings, I couldn't find a way to change LSK All Settings from connection settup to actual settings. Dutty did it in one of his ROMs.
thnx guys...that works
thats it, cool !! thanx a lot. I switched the left homekey on my TP2 in Bxsteez ROM from phone to all contacts. Much better Who needs a "Phone soft button" ??

Hi Xaddict,
Great stuff, I want to change the LSK to DeviceLock. Changing the text was obviously no problem, but do you perhaps know the path?
I tried what I got from total commander as path: \windows\VJDeviceLock.exe, but that doesnt really work..
Thanks,

Contacts on HTC HD MINI

Hi all,
I've got a HTC HD MINI and I would like to go to contacts clicking on just one key. If I want to go to contacts I have to click on "Green" key and then "More" or go to "Start" key and then "Contacts".
Anyone know any software or something like that to create a shortcut to a button?
Thanks.
PS: I also would like to add an invisible X button to my device. I've tried one .cab that I found here on this forum, but it didn't work.
What do you mean by the "Green" key? Which Contacts are you referring to? HTC People or WinMo Contacts?
Anyway, whichever Contacts app you are referring to, you can use Bsb Tweaks to assign the left soft key to the Contacts. One click brings you to that app.
What's the left soft key?
I wanted to put it on the 4th key (the reverse one).
Why don't you just go Settings/Personalise/Home Screen Tabs and move the Contacts tab to one of the first positions ? That way you can open Contacts from the Sense screen, or from any other program by hitting the Home key then Contacts (I know that's 2 presses but it works well!)
But I want the other contacts application. The one that has the phone numbers with the name of the person. And I wanted to put it on one of the keys... and I've got a software to do so, but it doesn't open when I click the key... and I'm not understanding why.
My ROM is the last PT original ROM.
