Saving camera's pictures on specific path... - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Hi guys!
I configured the camera of my Jam to save the pistures and videos on my SD...
I create My Documents folder on the root of my SD and the camera save the files creating new folder under /Storage Card/My Documents/
That's pretty good but I'd like to configure the camera to put my pictures inside /Storage Card/My Documents/My Pictures/
Is it possible? How can I do it?

Good luck, I've been searching for this answer for some time, please, please if you find out let me know.

Get you're favorite registry editor (i use phmRegEdit) and go to the following key: HKLM\SOFTARE\HTC\Camera\AppDefSettings\Image
You should find an empty value called "SaveFolder". You can change this to whatever you like (even invalid paths but it must be able to get created by the camera app). So if you set it to "\My Pictures" the pics you take will be stored in
(Storage Card)\My Documents\My Pictures\(some dated dir)\(somepicname).(some extension)
as far as i could see the SaveTo DWORD represents the storage location (0 = \My Documents, 1 = Storage card)
What i'd like to have is a tweak that does not create those nasty long dir names... just store the pics in "\My Documents".

Fossalta
[Edit] You can do the same trick for the /Video key [/Edit]

Any way to store in storage, not storage card? I mean the internal ROM.

Thanks Fossalta!
Works great...

There's actually a way to do this (to get rid of the dated folders). The latest T-Mobile WWE ROM 1.12.152 has a latest version 2.70 (Build 20117) Camera for PocketPC app by HTC in its Ext_ROM. This app lets you save pictures and videos to any type of memory on your device (Main, Storage, Storage Card) and DOES NOT create dated folders. It saves pictures directly in \...\My Documents\My Pictures.
Oh, and another thing... It also automatically flips display right (landscape mode, camera button on top) when you activate camera. After exit, it automatically reverts to a portrait mode.
Enjoy!!!

Hi guys!
I'm trying with the tip of registry entry but it doesn't works for me:
I open the given registry path and I chenge the SaveFolder entry from empty to this string: "Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures".
I close the reg editor and start the camera.... I made a test picture but it doesn't save the file with msg: "Unable to save the captured image 36001:500:0".
I open the reg edit and I see that in the SaveTo DWORD is present the value 0... I change it in 1 but seems to doesn't save the value! If I open back the reg editor the value is still 0.
Any idea?

no need to do the reg edit, i've been using that camera patch that guy just uploaded for some time now and it works perfectly. just go under options and set the save path to storage card and it automaticly puts in it storage card/my documents/my pictures also it puts teh camera sideways on the screen so its more comfortable to take pics

Thanks! I'll try it!
I don'd understand very well what is this cab and what is the extended rom... I just open a new topic for extended rom...

Just download the .cab file to your device and run it. It will install automaically.

Just installed that T-Mobile patch to my Qtek S100 (1.12) and it works superbly. It had been annoying me for a while that it made the dated folder each time you took a picture.
Now to solve my MMS issues and I'll be totally happy.

S.O.S.!!!!
I just install the cab and my Jam is not working fine now....
The today screen is a mix of other applications screen!!!!
Seems to don't pain well the today screen!
If I lounch the camera I see the some settings of the old configuration... I can select wich memory but not the specific folder...
I made soft reset but the problem of the today screen persist.... How can I make a rollback and/or unistall the given CAB?
Please! Help me! I don't want to make hard reset!!!!

Any idea how to save them to the internal ROM, the "storage"???

Hi all again,
Again I thought i would sure the CAB work I'm doing for my Mini.
The second CAB file will install the new Camera app (thanks to "heretic") into the Storage area and not into the RAM (Save smoe space). This will allow you to save the pictures straight into "My Picture" without that extra folder in either Main memory, SD Card or Storage.
I have also added the short cuts needed to replace the original camera app from within the Magician so they point to the camera app installed in Storage.
I have uploaded 2 versions, 1 with the camera app only and the other with the new Album app that comes with the above CAB file from "heretic".
The only issue which i can't iron out is that with the second CAB file (Camera only) if you click on the "Album" icon from within the camera app its comes up with an error (Its looking for the Album app in the same directory as the camera app in Storage). So if you use the internal Album app standard with the Magician then download the first CAB file.
The 1st CAB file will also install the new Camera & Album app into Storage so the error from above goes. I haven't gone through the registry to associate the image files to open with the new version yet but all the shortcuts will point to the new version.
I personal don't use the Album app so i only installed the 2nd CAB file.
Both of these CAB's have the "Snow" fix that i posted before.

Is it possible to get an answer to a simple question, goddammit. How can I set the saving location to the internal ROM (called storage on my device)??? Regedit it, install a tool - whatever, any way to do that?

Start the Camera
Go to the spanner icon in the corner
Go to "Tools">"Options"
you will see a "Save To"
Select Main Memory (this will save in the device)
Select Storage Card (as it says)
The only way to save to the Storage is to install the apps above, the camera program gives you the storage option

Thank you! I thought maybe you can regedit the path just like you can do with AvantGo.
Can the 2nd (cam only) be installed into Ram too? And will it overwrite the old version there from the ExtRom?

If you want to install in RAM install the CAB file from "heretic" above, mine install them into Storage. And yes they will replace the old ones

can we use this pach to Alpine(qtek 2020i) who has the same problem?

how to change camera folder?

Evertime I take a picture, my magician always save the picture to
My Document/xxxxx <----- xxxxxx is some kind of strings.
If I would like to specified the destination folder to
My Document/My Picture
What should I do?
Hello,
I can change the destination using this menu:
Camera -> Picture -> and then "Save in ..."
but like you I would like to put all the image in one folder and not multiple folder like "200050101" etc..
could'nt find it
Thank you for your answer.
BTW I couldn't find the menu that you said.
When I go to Camera, there is no "picture" menu.
- Start camera
- Tap on Tools icon right bottom corner. second from right
- select menu : Toolsoptions
- Select "save to" device as you want.
- also consider changing separately for image and video. they are different
AS
I didn't see it
There are only 2 options for me
-Save to Storge Card
-Save to Main Memory
Yours is different?
do a registry hack
you only have the option to change wether to store your pics on main memory or storage.
Edit your registry settings under "HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\AppDefSettings\Image\SaveFolder" for pics and "HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\AppDefSettings\Video\SaveFolder" for vids and set the String value to "\[FolderName]".
This will create a folder under your MyDocuments folder where the pics will be saved.
But note also that under that folder it will still create the "xxxxx" folder your talking about. Annoying isn't it? :x
I have a XDA2i and have the same problem of every time a photo is taken it creats a directory for that days pictures.
so could i also use that reg hack to at leat get all the folders it creats to go to one directory i.e i create a folder called XDApics and put it under my Documents.
I understand that in that new folder will be lots of daily created folders but it will clean up the my documents folder tho
JOhn
previous version
It's so wierd !!!
If I remember correctly while I was using XDA II, I can put my picture anywhere I want not in sub folder like this.
Why the previous version is better than the lastest one ?

I think it should also work on your xdaIIi. Also, you dont have to manually create a folder under your MyDocuments. Once you already set it on your registry, the folder will be automatically created after taking pics or vids.
And yes I'm using this trick to at least clean up my docs folder
it's not great we can't choose the directory..
I save my pics on my SD card and it create "My documents" directory on my SD Card.. boring......
I cannot find the Storage Card option
Hi there,
I'm using i-Mate JAMin, win mobile 5 and the only available options here are Main Memory and Network. In other words I cannot change to save the photos and videos to the SD card. Please, help!
P.S.: I also tried setting a new path within the registry settings, changed the path to '\Storage Card\My Photos\' with no luck - it creates the directories under the 'My Documents' in the main memory. It's a big pain in the ass b/c I don't have enough space to make lots of photos or clips.

Camera Pics Location on 2i

I've looked on the registry and tried fiddling but resulted in a) a crash that required a soft reset and b) message saying couldn't save the file when i changed the picture location to \my documents\my pictures.
Whenever I save a picture on the 2i it saves it into a folder in MD with the date as the folder name, with the picture stored in it. Any way to change this?

Did you manage to get a solution to this - I'm looking for exactly the same answer. There is a possible reg key, but changing that caused problems.
Also for me.
I've a Qtek 2020i from few days and I would like to know store all the photos in one folder.
At the moment I set the path of saved photos (SD card) but I want to have all the photos in one foolder instead of multiple photos in multiple folders. :?
Bye !
Still no work around for this ?
No news for me
I never did get an answer no, and I've given up looking for one myself.

I was thinking of creating a small apllication that you could run to move the pictures/movies from the numeric folders to a default folder such as My Pictures, im reading up on how it could be achieved at the moment.
On my xda 2, I made a directory on storage card, and they are all in that folder. What happens with yours? You can prefix it with anything you like, I call mine pic and it increments pic_001 etc. The settings are under camera, then click the spanner/screwdriver, then click tools, then click options. I changed the prefix to string and defined the string in the next box down under prefix string, the folder is changed under folder by clicking change.
For some reason the "Folder" option is missing on the XDA 2i so even though you can select the location (Main memory or storage card) it still saves it in \My Documents\xxxxxxxxxx <--- the x's refer to the date ie
05071800001 , 05(year)07(Month)18(Day) the rest is the folder number i think ? 00001 ?
Why they never used the same configuration as the other phones is beyond me but nevermind !

Is there anyway to hide an album(folder) from HTC album?

I'd like to set "all" as the favorite album in the TF3D photo tab so it just displays all the photos I've taken (I have about 100 pics separated by folder under \storage card\pictures\) The problem is when I do that it puts other pics like the icon's for Angelusz's landscape fix at the top of the thumbs list.
Is there a way to either hide certain album's(folder's) from HTC Album's view, or a way to make it only look at the storage card and not at the phone itself?
if you get an answer.... please repost!!!!
having same issue.
looking to not show in the 'albums' section a specific folder that has images in it.
and in the same token, making these (same) pics not be available through the 'see-all' feature.
trying to not have 'accidental' display of pics no need to make them "hidden-files" because then one wouldn't be able to view them when needing to.
can there be a limit set to the viewer and how 'deep' it searches for images? maybe they can be placed in a series of sub-folders that are so many deep, that the viewer does not look for....?
yeah this is a big problem if you have tomtom because it loads all of those pics

The simplest solution is to change the properties to hiddend for the image files you do not want to see in the tab.
There is also a reg patch to exclude particular folders but i dont know the details

If anyone has more information on this reg patch, I'd like to know more.
Also as Angelusz pointed out to me in another thread the HTCAlbum doesn't search the windows directory, so I've been dumping wallpapers ect. in there whenever I can. The big downside to this is the amount of time it takes the X1 to load the windows directory, especially when your trying out several wallpapers.
Key
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored
(if ignored doesn't exist: create it)
Make a new String Value and give it any name
example: igo
set the Data for the new value to the full path of the folder to be ignored
example: \Storage Card\iGO8
(note: all sub-folders will be ignored as well)

Thanks for the info! But there is an issue
Hello -
i tried your suggestion, but it didn't quite work.
i have the HTC fuze -
i created a folder in the storage card called ddd, then went to the registry and followed your suggestion, but when i go to the camera, and select the soft-key for albums, there are some options called "all" and "camera shots" that still reveal the contents of the whole phone. and the folders that contain the images that are to be kept away from accidental viewing, are already located on that folder 'ddd' on the storage card. how do i delete the "all"/"camera shots" feature form the album viewer, or better yet, how do i keep some pictures from coming up in their individual folders in the same viewer.
sorry to be a pest, but if there's anywhere else to get good info on this matter...it'd be here.
thanks for the help!!
works for me, thanks

Actually your help yesterday let me adjust the settings back to the original default options (so my pictures again at least showed up in the Sense pictures tab).
What I was originally trying to do by playing around with all of the registry settings was what all these people are asking.
I was trying to set the default folder for pictures taken with the camera as anything other than \Storage Card\DCIM.
There appears to be no way to overwrite this setting.

It never ceases to amaze me how rude people can be when some of us ask simple questions.
I'm sure HE DID search for an answer, but found none, and your reply was wrong. There was NOT an answer on THAT thread.
I read THAT thread and the question is still "up in the air."
As far as I can see, making any changes in the registry is futile with regard to camera image storage location. I've tried them all, including the ones referenced in THAT thread noted above (WRONG!). None work! The pictures STILL get stored in a DCIM folder on the storage card.
So, even I am still waiting for a solution. Oh well.

Is there anyone out there that still has this problem, or even knows how to fix it?
I've changed enableDCIM to 0
Changed HKLM\system\pictures\camera\OEM\picturelocation
to "\my documents\my pictures"
A registry search for DCIM turns up one result, the enable DCIM setting....
All locations that I've checked refer to the "My Pictures" folder.
I've created the folder in my documents, and in the storage card top level, deleted the DCIM folder, restarted the phone and STILL, when taking a picture it goes to DCIM.... Does anyone know if theres a file somewhere where this is stored?? I'm going insane with having to move my pictures from one folder to another all the time...

I had the TP2 before and I was able to just use advanced config to put my pics in to my pictures, and, easily view them from the sense tab, further more, I was able to have the pics named with the date and time, so I would not be over writing any pics after a flash.
I to have fought with this for a couple of weeks and finally just gave up and am currently using the DCIM folder to store my pics.
With my TP2, it worked great, it has to do with the actual camera app, on HD2, you can select your store location from there, TP2 camera app has no option of where to store, it is all handled with registry/advanced config.
Good luck, but I don't think there is a solution to this currently.
Jeff
Yeah it's odd that there's all these registry entries, but they seem to do nada...
Hi, firstly, sorry for my abruptness earlier in the thread.
I hadn't looked in to the problem, and i was assuming that what was true for other devices was true for us.
So, i had a look at it this evening, (tho im no tech, im kinda flying blind with hex editing) an as expected the save path is hard coded.
Get Camera.exe
Not sure whether you can extract it from the phones windows folder, I got mine from within a
kitchen.
Disable read only file attribute
Open it up in a hex editor and find
line 596,350 (hex 0009197e) or there abouts, and change DCIM to Pics
see two images, (ignore the fact the line number changed in pic2, )
Save Camera.exe, and copy it to your phone, overwrite the Camera.exe in your phones
/Windows/
folder. You might need to use something more than the default file manager, I used resco.
Or you could use a cab to install it.
Next time you take a pic it will save it to Pics/100Media
Notice that Pics is 4 letters like DCIM so the file size stays the same.
When i tried to insert data to call the folder SamsPics, camera.exe failed to load.
I also changed the two registry entries
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Pictures\Camera\OEM\PictureLocation changed from \DCIM\ to \Pics\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\General EnableDCIM to 0
however i didnt do tests between each change, so not sure if they do anything.
(update, i forgot to check at the time and i just flashed back to default so can't check, but i think one of teh flashes I had it working with the Pics path without changing those two reg entries, just the hex editing, so try it without first,.)
To fix manila photo tab showing no images found,
take a pic to make sure folder has been created
then from pics tab
albums - albums - select album probably called 100media
then
menu - set album as favourite
For the prefix IMAG I couldn't find how to change it, other than it pics up from the last IMAGxxx name in the target folder.
There is a section in the camera.exe where the code contains the string \DCIM\100Media around code line 675,954 but changing that seemed to have no effect.
So all in all, not too usefull, can only change to 4 letter folders, cant change prefix, cant get rid of 100media folder, but a step in the right direction., unless someone knows how to replace camera.exe in my kitchen with one of a different file size (or maybe how to trim space from elsewhere to leave the same filesize? I'm new to hex editing, but would love to learn more about hacking files like this, if anyone has any pointers)

I was able to change it to save to the Pictures folder without any problem. I did it on my first try, so I don't know that I even have the error... But what I did was over write the DCIM and 100Media with Pictures; then I 00'd what was left of the 100Media. Same file size, works like a charm. It got rid of the 100Media folder too. My hex structure was weird tho; D C I M (in hex; there was a 00 inbetween each letter). I just followed that format;
\ D C I M \ 1 0 0 M e d i a
overwritten
\ P i c t u r e s M e d i a
then replace each hex value corresponding to the letters in media with 00 (note that the space button in hex is 20, not 00)
\P i c t u r e s

[Q] Change camera default save directory

Guys,
Could you please help in solving this questions? I have searched all around but nothing works. Camera pictures always are saved in DCIM folder... I tried various registry keys:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\save\Save Location]
@="\\Storage Card\\My Documents\\My Pictures"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\Image]
"SaveFolder_0409"="\\Storage Card\\My Documents\\My Pictures"
But none of these helps ... Anybody has idea?
Have you tried this red?
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]\Software\HTC\Camera\General
EnableDCIM=0
camera settings are stored in binary format on first use of camera afaik.
also picture number to continue on storage card gets read out and stored in same binary value.
i know because i tried to adjust default settings (shutter sound off by default for example).
but side effect is that picture number is also set when cooking in your binary value.
but last picture number detected and stored is unique for everyone.
if you would set it to 1 (picture number, a new folder inside dcim get's created on every flash).
but we want pictures to continue from last number...
that's why i leave this binary value in camera reg's alone...

But, didn't understood which of these values could be changed in order to point to My documents/My pictures on SD card?
Anyway, I have left it to save in DCIM, but just for sport interest - is it possible?
-use ceregeditor on pc, connect to device after you adjusted settings in camera app
-backup the said hex key and cook it in
but as i said there will be problem with numbering, it creates new media folder on every rom flash afaik.

I am already cooking above mentioned key for several month and I have no problems with numbering after flash! For the moment I have 149 photos on sd card, this evening I flashed twice, took photos and they started numbering 150,151.. No new folders are created in DCIM, just DCIM/100MEDIA.
My ext I am using is attached: camera set to superfine, widescreen is off and shutter sound is off.
My problem was that photos would be stored in storage card/my documents/my photos instead of DCIM/100MEDIA.
