Can we get the subtitle of the Universal forum changed please.
Currently it reads: "the Universal will be sold as the qtek 4040, xda-IV, SPV M5000, mda-IV, imate 2005, and others." which is incorrect.
It should read: "the Universal will be sold as the qtek 9000, xda-Exec, SPV M5000, mda-Pro, imate JASJAR, and others."
With all the networks releasing their versions fairly soon, we need new users to be able to find the right forum. They might not be aware that all the devices are called the HTC Universal.

I am confused.
O2 XDA IIi is Andes or Alpine?
From this forum "The Andes is the updated version [of Himalaya] that has a 1.3 megapixel camera, sold (among other names) as the XDA IIi."
And rom Wiki "HTC devices: ... # Alpine xda-IIi / QTEK 2020i / dopod 699"
And here is nothing abount Andes.
Can some one clear it up?
as far as i know it's the same thing
not sure why there are two names
Orange have just advised me that the release of AKU2 installed already on my SPV M5000 includes A2DP support and it should work just fine straight out of the box  .....Ive read a fair few of the posts on this forum re AKU2 - A2DP and can't see anything that would confirm this...... in fact if anything not sure I believe them [Orange]..............anybody tried this?
I had not encountered their ROM here either with both AKU2 and A2DP support. I myself would like to know. But if it is not in this forum, I doubt that they released or even support both. Pobably just AKU2 and "NO A2DP".
Hi Y´all!
As I understand it the HTC Wizard came in two different forms; Wizard & Prodigy (or Wizard 100 and Wizard 110 as I´ve read they are sometimes called), with the groups being as follows:
Wizard:
i-Mate K-Jam
O2 XDA Mini
Orange SPV M3000
Qtek 9100
T-Mobile MDA Vario
Prodigy:
Dopod 838
Cingular 8125
Vodafone VPA Compact II
What is really the difference between the two of these groups (besides the slight difference in shape), are there any at all?

As far as I can see, they are actually the same (including the shape). HTC Prodigy was the original Code Name which was then changed to Wizard on its release (like Hermes is TyTn). Certain vendors may have the case recoloured (QTek) or have it slightly changed (O2 has the O2 logo embossed on it), but they are essentially the same.
ok so I accidentily mixed up the names of the two groups, according to geekzone (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/smartdevices.asp?phonemodelid=17 && http://www.geekzone.co.nz/smartdevices.asp?phonemodelid=156) the prodigy are the five devices in the top list and the wizard are the other three.
Plus they do look a bit different as seen in these pics:
cingular 8125:

qtek 9100:

The thing is that we develop an application running on these devices and now my development crew tell me that our application is handled differently by these two groups...

From what I have read, the K-Jam and the XDA Mini S ARE both Wizards. Of this I am fairly certain. (They look like the one you posted from joncollins.net)
The HTC Prodigy in most pictures looks like the Wizard and in the Specs sounds like the wizard. In one set (on www.phones2udirect.co.uk) it says the Wizard has Windows PPC 2005 while the Prodigy has WM5 (and I know my "Wizard" has WM5).
The images of those with a different case seem to be few and far between (inlcuding the ones on the geekzone.co.nz pages you posted which have a different shell, but otherwise the specs are the same). Try Google images for more, but they all seem to look like my phone (XDA Mini S) too.
I'd recommend getting it to work on a standard Wizard (which seems the most prevalent design) and if someone can say that there is a problem with Phone X, get one in as there seems to be confusion over which is which (and there is also the HTC Prophet, just to try and confuse people more....).
{Edit} Maybe this will help -
European products - http://www.europe.htc.com/products/
Japanes product - http://www.japan.htc.com/product.htm
American Products - http://www.america.htc.com/products/default.html
The american one seems to have the phone you are on about and the T-Mobile MDA then everything else below that is something else I have not seen before.... but they are actually a different machine.{/edit}
thanks for the answer, very descriptive
I'm getting really confused by the barrage of new models dished out by HTC recently. what is the difference between HTC Hermes and HTC TyTN?
thank you in advance and appologies if this is not the correct forum for the question.
regards,
As far as I know, there aren't differences. The Hermes name was when this product has been launched on the market
Ciao, Cesare
Hermes is the generic code name used by HTC for all the devices.
TyTN is the comercial name used by HTC itself to sell the Hermes devices.
You can find it under many other names:
O2 XDA trion / T-Mobile MDA Vario II / Vodafone 1650 VPA Compact III / Orange SPV M3100 / Dopod CHT 9000 / Dopod 838 Pro / hTc Z / Qtek 9600 / iMate JasJam / Cingular 8525
