skype crashes non stop! - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Even with nothing else running, skype opens, logs on, then just crashes right down? anybody else have this?
all I have installed so far is tomotom 5 and total commander.

same problem here.. what version are you running?
I noticed more crashes in 1.20 (beta) from the forums

boh versions 1.1 and 1.2 beta xscale
now its working ok, uninstalled the beta and did a soft reset b4 reinstalling 1.1. this sucks
I tt5
voice command 1.5
total commander installed
the 1.1 has started crashing now too. damn. you thought these monkeys could have checked this out first?

These maybe some of the causes
Skype would NOT open when many applications running in the background. Closing them all it then opened OK,
ACTIVE SYNC id the biggest criminal, it will not run with this in the background.
Close AS4 and SKYPE opens up.
This is now a "Known Problem" on the Imate site, as well as unstable WIFI, which they claim to have fixed, though they don't tell us what the fix is...

Hi,
Here is the update radio stack .
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Bluetooth 1.03.01/

What is this stack for?
This is a Blue tooth? Will it fix the Skype issue? Because I killed myself getting BT to work with Tomtom, would hate to lose that, also, are there any update instructions?

Skype issues...
I have another skype related issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28257&highlight=
any suggestions?

ActiveSync conflicts with skype
It took a while to work out, but here it is: Skype works fine as long ActiveSync is not on. In the old machines, AS would kick in and appear in the memory only after you sync'd. Here it comes up automatically, whether you sync or not. In fact, you should see Active sync running in the background virtually always.
Clicking on the memory you'll see its always on, you press stop, and Skype works for 5-10 minutes, until AS turns tiself back on.
Any fixes for this in the registry?

In my case, Skype does not really crash, it simply does not open up after minimised. However the application is actually operating correctly in the background (I can still receive calls), only the links in the Start menu and Programs menu stop working.
I found that you can bring back the application by going into the Settings --> Memory --> Running Programs and then activate the application from there. Also, if you have an ongoing call and tap on the phone icon on top of the screen, the application is displayed correctly. Reception of a call also 'wakes' Skype up.
If you want to reduce ActiveSync activity you can reduce the update period in Programs-->ActiveSync-->Menu-->Schedule (e.g. peak and non peak hours).

Do you have a JasJar
I don't have a 'schedule' option oin the Jasjar??? Do you? I have 'connections' which is usb + speeds. or 'settings' which is as settings for mail notes, etc

set the peak & off peak hours to MANUALLY if you dont want AS running automatically (unless you want to download email every now and then)

its grayed out when you universal is connected into your PC

Maybe this is it then
Universal always thinks it is connected to the pc?
Just hard reset, makes me sick after successful BT of tomtom5...Anyway, it's still grey?????.

ActiveSync won't show the Schedule menu unless you have an Exchange Server configured for email. The schedule is for periodically checking the server (default 10 minutes).

To Mikey:
Nabil has managed to install a working upgrade of Activesync 4.1. I wonder if that is worth trying to resolve your conflict with Skype & ActiveSync. It's worth a shot, that is if you havent already tried it.

that's correct. forgot to ask you 'bout the Exchange thingy

has anyone noticed the size difference between the skype cab you get off skypes site compared to the one in the extended rom,
site = 3.79mb
rom = 4.60mb
anyone used the sites one yet??
im about to load it up as i got rid of skype soon as i got me jasjar out of the box. i'll post results shortly

well, installed and running from the site (the smaller cab), with loads of other apps including activesync, wifi, PIE, contacts, etc, havent got any contacts on there yet tho, so cant really tell if its meant to be having problems yet but it appears to be working absolutly fine
about page states version 1.1.0.6
whats the roms installation version?

the real culprit was, 100% sure, VC1.5
I did several hard reset and re-installs. competition for title of Skype Killer was down to SPB3 and MS VC1.5. well, MS Voice Command 1.5 caused the active sync to kick in and Skype to bug and only a hard reset got rid of it.

HELP!!! ALARM IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!

My alarm won't shut off!!! no matter what i do, it keeps vibrating and ringing!!! I've done everything short of a hard reset. Help please!!!
Please someone help me, i can't shut it off no matter what i do. I really don't want to hard reset.
Go and download/install memmaid (or memaid?). Check your "notification queue" and remove the alarm.
did you happen to update your rom and then do a restore with that backup prog?
Well i am on the new K-jam rom, but i didn't try to restore anything. This is just the first time i used the alarm on the k-jam. Everytime i soft reset it, it starts going off again, im back to using my Nokia 3100 until i get this fixed. I will try with the ?memaid and report back.
it happened to me before i believe the new start key was the reason for that, did you modify the soft keys??? if yes then you'll need to undo it.
in my case i had to hard reset
I have the same problem. Innotification queue (memmaid) i've the cause of the problem. Lot's of notifications like this one:
\\.\Notification\NamedEvents\SCRIPT:0X0
(friday, 12 may 2006 - 8:30:09)
lot's of this with just a few secons of diference.
How this apeared i dont now.
Please help to stop this fuk?&% alarm.
Guys, i did everything its not working... any last ideas? anybody fix this?

I've got the same problem too with an MDA Vario.
Everytime I soft reset, the alarm (which isn't set) goes off repeatedly every minute or so. I have to fiddle with the alarm, turning it on and off, and I think this then fixes it (unless my actions are coincidental) until the next soft reset.
I did previously install and uninstall Skype for Mobiles, and that had some notification issues, so I don't know if that caused this problem.
Any methods of solving this problem greatly appreciated (or any news of when an officail MDA Rom update will be available).
I eventually got mine to cancel by removing smartskey and pressing the bottom left softkey. I haven't used it since!
I had a similar problem with mine going off every minute or two. In my case it was that the Active Sync had the alarm tone set to play each time it did a sync/update while connected through USB.
Just a suggestion, but check you've not got the the alerts set to go off for some random function.
Try check notifications. it will help

I used the Scary Bear Software "Check Notifications" tool to remove all "Active" notifications (about 13 of them), and I am still getting all the alarms (every 30 seconds or so)...
Any other ideas?

same issue here - set the alarm, it went off - but there is no freaking way to turn this thing off
There is once I got a multiple notification for my SMS.. and later I've realised that I had a software that enables repeating notifications for SMS. Try to recall if you have any software that enables you to change your notification settings (e.g. for alarm and notification) and see if you can spot any 'Repeating' stuff.
fixed
I had the exact same problems. I installed the latest O2 ROM 2.21.4.101 and the Alarm now works correctly, the calendar notifications work correctly. Also when you stop all running programs the Comm Manager shuts down without any errors as well.

Is this the ne ROM 2.21 for the MDA/Vario? If yes, where did you get it? I now have the ROm 2.17

Wizard that runs like a dog.

Ok, my wizard is running at stock speeds (no overclocking) cause i am currently trying to get it running as I want it to before I start trying to overclock the nuts off it. Problem I have is that after a while it starts running like a dog and no matter what processes I kill it will just not get back to its post soft-reset sprightly nature.
In my startup folder I have
CapNotify
CheckAutoRun
GPRSNotify (which is somehting to do with SPB GPRS monitor I think)
sddaemon (smart dial daemon from what I read on these forums
Services
I have already disabled
Init_tray
poutlook
Theme refresh (which kept changing my desktop back, grrr)
WifiInit
Has anyone got any idea what makes it run so slowly?
Anyone know how to stop pMSNServer from running itself in the background all the sodding time?
Or how to stop ActiveSync loading in the background when it has been nowhere near a USB cable?
Anyone know how to get programs to actually close when you hit the [X] and not have to use task manager to kill the process? (Free options appreciated, I didnt really like pocket plus).
Cheers for any help you can offer.

Have you performed the WM5 registry tweaks? These are documented here
An easy way is to install mokski's two tweak cabs.
As for the x closing apps you can use wclose which I posted here I also use smartskey, a quite necessary lil app!
Hope I was of some help.
Cheers. Just disabled the file system cache (which I dont remember enabling) and will see how it works. If it doesn't work, I shall be re-enabling it and boosting the amount available.
Also disabled the phone skin. Does this work on a wizard? Or is it's running slightly faster the fact that I have just restarted? Or maybe it's just my imagination?
Thanks for wclose, should make life a little easier. Shall look into smartskey afterwards.

Ditto. Seems to be tied into Poutlook, so as long as I dont read my SMS messages it seems to be ok.
And disabling the skin on the phone app seems to have been the biggest improvement so far.....

Activesync fix
In Active Sync on your device, go to menu-Configure server. Then put in a fake server address and leave all other settings as they are. tap next untill you come to the screen that asks which items you want to sync. uncheck all checkboxes that indicate which items are synced with the Exchange Server and finish the configuration. Then go to menu-schedule and set the sync options both to manual. Now Active Sync will not start automatically to try to make contact with an Exchange Server, which is the cause of the problem.
How do you mean 'disable phone skin' ? and what is the visual effect?
I have a tmobile mda, and when I did disable phone skin it got rid of this ugly pink dial pad when I would try to use the phone as a phone. It also disabled smart dial which was good because smart dial would call people when i was already on the phone because my ear would accidentally push buttons.

i got this -
Remove operator skin from Phone app
If your device's Phone app is skinned, you can remove by setting:
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled = 0 (DWORD decimal)
Similarly, you can restore it with:
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled = 1 (DWORD decimal)
Click to collapse
And as bendog says, it removes the autodial features so whenever you push a button it doesnt go through your phone book trying to match a number (which is REALLY annoying when you are trying to use the "Press 1 to buy a ticket" style systems).
Otherwise, it is still kind of blue, just a LOT less laggy.
Phone still seems to end up running like a bit slow though (dont know if that is just a general slow down due to disabling the file system cache) despite me having over 20Mb of Program memory free still. Killing pMSNServer and poutlook when they are running in the background helps.
Current background tasks are....
connmgr* - This and cprog do the actual phone bit, dont think you should want to kill them.
cprog* - Phone GUI maybe?
device*
filesys**
GPRSNotify - SPB GPRSMonitor software related
gwes**
mstli*
NK*
sddaemon*
services*
shell32*
srvtrust*
Things with a * are in /windows. All are .exe files. Those with a ** are .exe files in /windows with a .exe.0409 file also present... no idea what those are.
Also, poutlook and pmsnserver are in windows and are not "required", so seems I cant use that as a test of whether the process is "required"/"preferred".
I think my problem with the blasted pmsnserver stems from me using my hotmail msn account to log into MSN messenger (which promptly downloaded the hotmail into poutlook). Am gonna have to change my msn account to a new MSN address and see if I can remove the hotmail folder.... am sure I have seen a thread on it on here somewhere....
/me finds option to download hotmail automatically..... and disables it
Hmmmm... maybe that will solve that problem.
I use smartskey as well - a beaut of an app, very usefull.
If you want to determine what is consuming the most memory, you could try to install ITaskMgr, which shows CPU Load, Memory Load, and running tasks and processes as well as how much memory they consume each.
Very handy to spot those applications that consume a lot or have memory leaks the longer they are used.

Tried it mate and love it shame about the skin looks like it for a kids phone lol. but got to say it rocks and will buy when someone comes up with a nice more professional looking skin for it.
Also , it's possible to see the day of the week next to the date ?
the scrolling is really smooth!
can u set individual SMS ringtones with it?
there ar still issues with sms when i choose to see whole message history, on a wm 6.5 rom at least... otherwise looks very pretty.
I'm having virtually no issues running it on wm6.5 build 23008. I love the kinetic scrolling, it's very similiar to the performance of TF3D, not iContact and PocketCM. The facebook integration is also great, as now I have several of my friends' facebook pics as their contact pic. I also noticed I misspelled their names and was able to update it with their facebook name.
Before I had to use a little utility that was only compatible with google contacts to bring over my facebook contacts, but it actually brought them ALL over. Resco's CM does but it only links the phonebook contacts, so you don't have a bunch of names floating in your phone's address book.
Great work Resco... now we just need an HTC-like skin!
Everyone that reads this should at least download the trial, just to get their address book updated!
how to overide the contacts right softkey in today with resco contacts??
I found a skinmaker for resco contact manager at http://forum.pdaprime.ru/index.php?showtopic=47279&pid=481469&mode=threaded&start=
filename is RescoCMSkinMaker.rar
Hope someone can make HTC-like skin. Thanks
I downloaded this app over 3 hours ago. I did not like the format compared to my stock contact app so I went to delete the program. I received a message asking to turn off the device to remove Program so I said yes thinking my Diamond would soft reset.
When the Diamond rebooted, it asked me to set up device since as if it was my first time using it!! (I said oh sh*t!)
I lost all of my information, like a hard Reset!!
Luckily I had SPB Backup which I used but I received an error message stating problem with cprog.exe
No Touchflo, calendar, contacts, etc. and no phone.
I am trying to Hard Reset but am not able to.
I am pressing the volume down key and enter button (d pad center) at the same time. While holding both keys I am pressing soft reset but I am not getting the message I should be getting. The Diamond is soft resetting.
Any help is appreciated.
I have Resco Explorer I purchased with no issues.
I have been trying to rectify this issue for almost 4 hours.
Why did removing the Resco Contacts app cause all of this?
Very frustrating to say the least and many hours wasted when I could be sleeping but I gotta get my Diamond to function.
I have not been able to Hard reset and maybe that is not the solution?
Multiple soft resets of no help. I don't get the cprog pop up but TouchFlo not starting. Says launching than tap to launch but nothing.
UPDATE:
Issue resolved!
I did an SPB Restore a 2nd time and everything is working now.
I should have tried the repeat restore
hours ago as I would have gotten some sleep.
When there was a cprog.exe issue, I could not find it in my Task Manager.
When everything was working again, obviously I found it in my Task Manager.
The question remains as to why removing Resco Contact Manager caused the issues as described?
Does it have to be removed in a certain way?
I went into Programs and removed it.
SPB Backup saved my as*, so 4 thumbs up to the developer of that software
I tried the new version, but there are still a lot of bugs/features left:
After a call, windows call history appears for several seconds, befor resco contact manager starts and furthermore, sometimes the resco call manager doesn't appears.
The resco contact manager has a really cool layout, but the performance is (at the moment) not usible for daily business.
...still does not support video call....

@resco,
regarding post #10, were you ever able to figure out what may have happened?
facebook issue
Unfortunately I am unable to integrate facebook, is there some specific steps to do? Because each time I try to log in into facebook from Resco CM it shows the login page and then gets me into my facebook profile instead of listing my friends, and then I have only one option on the bottom right : Abort. Any clues?
ya mine wont even let me get to the login screen
I never did get a reply from Resco regarding my issue which was a Big Issue.
(See post #10)
It's only been about a year though
I just don't use Resco Contact Manager
Any Update about Resco Contact manager & Facebook integration ?

Push internet was a new feature introduced that made it so pages you specify on the internet tab would automatically be downloaded in the background according to a schedule. When you visit the link on the internet tab, you bring up a cached (and reasonably updated based on schedule) version that loads much faster.
Disabling push internet disables your phone from downloading the pages, which results in better battery (less data transfer) and more memory (less instructions sitting in memory.)
So what have people been disabling...please specify the file instead of telling me like push internet..cause there isn't a file that says push internet. I've been trying to figure out what services, and startup programs I can do without. Thanks in advance!

Using Touch Commander you can select the exe file then go to File and >>>>>>>>> on the menu. Pick Create shortcut. Click on Tree and browse to \Windows\Startup and say OK. You now have a shortcut (.lnk file) to that exe in the Startup folder which will start on next boot.

Sorry for the stupid questions, but I am no where near the level of computer knowledge some of you guys have so be patient.
1) when looking for these programs, are you finding them in the file explorer?
2) if they are deleted, are then gone for good. I would hate to get rid of something and then realize I needed it cause if I screw it up, there is no way I am fixing it right back like some of you guys or gals can do.
My imagio though was running around 60% when I had sense UI on it, but with the HTC touch flo home screen on, it is running around 70-80% so getting it down will be a big help.
Thanks in advance.

I have deleted the Items you have recomended on my start up and it works good so far.
I Googled the services you have recommended and they seem to be of use, "I'm no expert on them" so I have left them for the time being.

I being using SKTools, is basicly a full suit of diferent tools, including one I would say resembles msconfig from Xp/Vista/Win7 where you can disable items and re-enable them in case you need too. I disabled TouchFlow and the TV Icon thing and that alone freed about 20% of memory.
Here is what I have. Even with Shozu running, I am running at about 57-60%

Very difficult to follow your list by Images
I have lowered my Memory usage to 41 % upon boot with these 2 cabs, I can confirm they work good on my Imagio.

I cant get sktools to install keeps telling me it is not a pocket pc app and yes I checked to ensure I dl the wm6 ver.Any ideas?
Not sure, but I can think of a few things. How are you installing it? Did you get the .cab for SKfile or a exe? Also I suggest updating your .Net Framework to version 3.5

I have 3.5 running thx. What the message tells me is that I dont have a PPC.Strange
It says "sksetup is not a valid Pocket PC application. I have dl the wm ver from the sk web site

Make sure it's for PocketPC (touchscreen) and not Smartphone (non-touchscreen).

There isn't Push Internet on the Imagio, it is only on the TP2.
Not sure what I am doing wrong but when I dl the WM 6 ver it still says Not the ver for a ppc I know I am missing something but don't know what it is.

Network Connection Error??

I just started getting this error today, right after I unlock the screen to do whatever. It says Network Connection Error, and the options are retry, or cancel. I hit retry and everything seems to work just fine, never hit cancel yet. This phone is stock as the day I got it last week, nothing at all downloaded or running in the background, and no widgets loaded. Only thing running is 3g. Only thing on the home screen is gmail, voicemail, calendar, running programs, and the 4 standard bottom ones(phone, contacts, messaging, apps). All other screens are empty. Any suggestions since Sprint does not have a clue and my 30 days are up as of yesterday to get a different model phone? I gave up my BB Bold for this one the last day of my 30 days.
I am running STOCK and just rooted but did almost nothing else besides delete bloatware and add SU/Spare Parts and I am getting that today too. I would guess it has to do with Sprint or something similar (if you want to get excited pretend it has to do with the update ) but I haven't been able to sign into FB, maybe it's just Facebook that has the error? Or am I the only one not being able to sign into FB?
BTW, I can use the mobile app, it's just not syncing with TW/contacts.
That is very popular. I get those all the time. Nothing to worry bout.

I hope not that often...last time I remember this was on some custom ROM's the Hero glitched FB a few times in sense. If TW is glitching their FB log-in why are they touting not releasing it due to bugs!? lol.

Saw that you edited this, I only had my FB stuff not work, my e-mail came in fine, a lot worked fine.
Did you do anything to the phone or is it completely stock??
I would think it might be something faulty if it's the phone or the connection I don't know. I never had my screens empty....widgets have issues loading when you aren't connected, usually a network error, but you mean widgets are gone?? I don't know why your widgets would disappear other than something more severe, the rest can be explained due to a network connection.
I hope this helped, I don't know your post was a little confusing, if you just mean that it was stock and was not working and you had to hit retry, maybe your signal is weak and it disconnected? I don't know, it's kind of confusing, but being stock it shouldn't be anything huge...

That only happens to me when i have no service and i try to access the market. Turn off 3g, 4g, and wifi, and try to use the market. It comes up with that. My guess is its your market trying to do something before you get good service.

Well its not only the market. I turned my 3g off before and whatever is synced when the phone was off gave me that network connection. Error as well

Facebook has updated their app in the market.
I was getting the same error.
Install the latest update. It includes chat.
Well since I can't post outside links(won't let me multi quote), I have to do this the retarded way...

I get the error when starting Ninjas Live when my internet connection times out, but not any other time. I need to call comcast and ***** about the flaky connection I have.
