With WM2003/SE, I used Intellisync or Chapura Pocket Mirror to sync Outlook categories and MightySync for folders - an added bonus was only having to set up a "Guest" Activesync connection to make this work, making the whole process a lot faster and practically troublefree.
In comparison, I found that extended use of a full Activesync partnership would continually disrupt my PC and my LAN and internet connections and corrupt Outlook. Not to the extent of meltdown, but enough to irk and cause unnecessary hassle (usually at the wrong time).
With WM2005, the Activesync experience worsened considerably. Outlook 2003 and WM2005 are barely cordial and it's a nuisance having to shut down AS 4.1 before I can reboot my PC - AS is also so damned slow!
The only app I can find that's compatible with WM2005 is On-Schedule Sync (www.odysseyinc.com). I can't tell from Intellisync's website whether they support WM2005, but I've tried and failed with their latest version.
Chapura state that they will release a compatible version, but haven't a date yet. This info is at least 4 months old!
Does anyone know of any other software besides On-Schedule that will work?
Also, Pocket Controller Professional syncs folders (very handy app, this!), but MightySync doesn't appear to (at least, not for me).
have you tried on schedule yet? i downloaded it... but the overtheair option looks like it's not included on the trial version. intellisync didn't work for me either, neither does SEVEN. the other programs i used to use (symmetry prot, infowave, etc... don't support single users anymore).
really need a push mail client compatible with my work env (no IT support, exchange server). i hate my blackberry!!!!
i'm pretty fed up of outlook and how it screws with my contacts *i recently updated, and it removed all the titles from the names which is VERY annoying.* not to mention when i add contacts to my phone, it does NOT add them to outlook (maybe i'm just stupid but when i tried to set it to phone, it DELETED all my contacts sans a few) are there any alternative programs that are a bit easier and funner to use?
thanks in advance.
in one word: no.
Outlook is the easiest way AND the most perfected.
There are a few other possibilities to avoid outlook but in my opinion a pda without outlook is useless.
If you encountered problem it might be
-correct active sync version ?
corresponding to that : correct outlook version ?
-correct settings in active sync ?
If you fail to syncronize with ac....dont even try other solutions.
i'm using activesync 4.5 and the outlook version 2002, i copy contacts and settings from outlook just fine, with the exception of it screwing with the titles and names a bit, it's the other way around that's giving me a headache.
what do you recommend the optimal settings be so that if something is new on my computer, it transfers to my phone, and if something is new on my phone, it transfers to teh computer
(also anyway to stop it from seperating the names and removing titles?)
thanks in advance.
seems to be a settings problem
So i only have a german verison of ac i don't know the english name for the settings.
But you have to tell ac to sync in both ways and give the mobile thing the priority.
Then your problem should be solved.
did that, and once more it deleted all the contacts on my phone except for like 3-4 .... either this install is screwy or something is going wrong, or i'm just an idiot.
i refuse to sync with outlook!
i used to, and i ended up with half a dozen duplicate contact and calendar entries for each one!!! i tried settings, etc, finally said to hell with it and set the phone to not sync with outlook. i feel your pain.
Good, now i don't feel like an idiot
I had similar frustration. I eventually set up my 8125 to its own email address, and turned off the sync-ing of contacts. I have two separate contact lists now, but I'm not losing contacts from my phone all the time, either.
I do not have problems with duplicated events, but I publish my Outlook calendar to the phone, not the other way around.
I never schedule from my 8125. I always tell people to send it to my email, so I can control it from my PC. I only use the handheld on meeting-heavy days, and then I'm only checking email, and not accepting meetings.
Using: WM5, ActiveSync 4.5, Outlook 2003 on Desktop
Well, there is an alternative. I run linux so AS isn't even an option for me. I have been using FinchSync since I got the phone and it has worked great. I can even sync anywhere I have a network connection without being at home.
FinchSync uses an http connection to sync contacts with Mozilla's Thunderbird email and address client as well as your datebook with Mozilla's Sunbird calendar. So far it has worked great. One hint though, take the time to read the install and configuration instructions on their website!
Hope this helps!

I absolutely hate Activesync. I update my phone contacts and appointments via my Tilt, and then hook it up to my computer only to find that Activesync is deleting them on my phone and restoring the older files on my two PC's. I think, "oh, well I must have the sync settings set improperly," so I check them on my PC and my Tilt... it turns out that it only goes one way: from the PC to the mobile device. (Please correct me if I'm missing something.) You can just disable the sync settings, but then what's the point of having the program installed?
Personally, I have few complaints about Outlook.
I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to be giving PDASync a try. They seem to advertise all of the features I'm looking for, although it does carry a hefty price tag of $50.
http://www.laplink.com/pdasync/
I'm still not 100% sold on PDASync. It seems to lack the ability to sync internet browser favorites/bookmarks and custom file folders. The quest continues.
On a slightly brighter note, this seems like quite a useful list of syncing software.
http://pocketpccentral.net/software/sync.htm
i must use lapsync because i don't want all 1500 outlook contacts into my phone, so i filter them by category and only sync a certain category.
i dont sync bookmarks, but i know you can use AS to sync ONLY bookmarks. to sync custom files and folders, try mobsync - its free.
I Tried Laplink today, This needs ActiveSync to function properlyu (did not see my device attached). I am lucky I had trial software instead of paying $ 50
I am really fed up with ActiveSync / Windows Mobile Device Center!
I just can't stand it anymore.
Are there serious and good replacement for it? For WM 6.5.5 and Win7 x64?
Since 2007 I am experiencing these 3 major issues, with any subsequent versions of ActiveSync (which is now called Windows Mobile Device Center, on my Win7 Ultimate x64 system)
1st issue:
After a restore on one of my 3 WM devices (two HD2 and one HD1 blackstone), I had to full resync each time: sometimes it takes 30 min, sometimes 5-6 hours: I ALWAYS AND ONLY include contacts, task and calendar, with default sync settings (no emails)
2nd issue
Apparently, without warning, any 3-5 days a message appears saying:
A change to the server requires full re-sync.
I do and sometimes all is fine, sometimes ALL MY CONTACT ARE REPLICATED on both my PC and my devices...as for today I got 6,000 contacts! (they should be around 1,500)...And I am forced to go through my contacts and remove manually all the duplicates.
3rd issue: sync is completed BUT CHANGES are NOT reflected on DEVICES!
Suppose I change contact/notes on one of my 3 devices and then sync. My laptop might or may not take in the change. But invariably I get the message Device connected, Sync completed!
Viceversa: I change the email field of a contact on my laptop: the changes are reflected on device 1 but NOT on device 2 and yes on device 3! Very random behavior...
Yesterday I have edited the notes (it is a field) of a contacts on my 2nd device. On PC and on my 1st device the changes were synced. On the last device NOT....sync was completed all 3 times, WITHOUT ERRORS but changes are not there!
This is irritating.
Please help and suggest a substitute to ActiveSync alias WMDC for WM 6.5.5
Is there any tool, even if it an expensive one, to replace it?
I'm not talking about IntelliSync, PocketMirror, etc which are
not replacing, just extending its functionalities...
I don't want any more trace of activesync on my laptop, I wish to have
a professional product installed.
Thank you
Saulo
I read on interenet about SyncML and another solution called DevilsPGD.
Any feedback about it? Is there a off-line version? I dislile the idea of having my data on a web server.
Thank you
Saulo
I forgot to mention that my main goas are to sync PIM data (Outlook data) e.g.:
- Contacts
- tasks
- calendar
Thanks
Saulo
Through the years it has always baffled me how so many people have had issues with AS and MDC. I can honestly say that I have had, maybe 5 ot 6 errors with it, and all were solved with a simple reboot of both devices. After that it would go for like a year or two without an issue.
I have been using WM devices since the dell axim was introduced (changing both computers and PDA/Smartphones as time progressed) and have always read of people having massive issues with it. I also consider myself a pretty heavy user of AS/MDC: PIM syncing, Office doc syncing, Note syncing, music and photo syncing (yes with windows media player), Pocket Quicken syncing, Mysportstraining and mypersonaldiet syncing, ewallet syncing, Quickbook syncing, Mylifeorganized syncing, Checklist syncing, and a customized program I had built that syncs my loan files with an industry software I use called Point.
With all of this crap being transferred to and from my various computers and my PDA/Smartphones I would have thought, based on reading other peoples' issues, I would have experienced more problems. But as I said, it has pretty much always been a painless experience. Even the issues I had were minor (one record wouldnt sync, or one conduit would not sync, but everything else did) and as I said, rebooting both devices fixed it everytime.
What is everyone else doing differently?
I use Jeyo Mobile Companion, and I am really happy with this program. Works well on Windows 7 with a lot of features.

Dear Cirrob
I also use pocket PCs since 1998. 12 years. and always been with Active Sync.
But now I cannot accept that a sync is completed, no errors and in fact the new updated phone or cell phone is not there, on my device!
Also I edit some NOTES (notes field, within a contact) and these changes are not reflected on my PC.
I get no error messages! I have checked that the right couple (WindowPC - Device) are selected... a new contact is corrected sync, a old one, if edit, I have 70% chance is correctly synced and 30% chances it remain unchanged, either on PC or on Device...
Sure enough, if I make a hard reset, these issues are solved, the sync is perfect...But I do no want to make an hard reset every month.
Thanks

Hallo
Does Jeyo Mobile Companion rely on Active Sync (like Intellsync or Pocket Mirror)?
Or is it a real replacement?
Thanks
Saulo
Forget Activsync
I have used PDAs heavily in my business. Before wm phones I had to carry two devices. I have also used a blackberry which has an excellent interface with any computer, it is faster and more accurate, It is realy a shame that MS stuff always seems so counter-intuitive. In my opinion the best solution is to not use activesync at all. You can do that if you have an exchange account, then you can sync all PIM over wireless, with 3G it is effortless. One caveat is that you cannot sync notes unless you activsync with outlook configured to exchange.
By the way "TrineFix" is a utility I downloaded somewhere here, when installed on your phone it will remove duplicates from your contacts, it works extremely well, and you don't have to edit duplicates by hand.
hallo researchm
Can you please expand on exchange server? Is it possible to subscribe to it for a private person like me? I mean is exchange available for personal usage?
Do you khow to start an exchange account?
Is this process something similar to syncing to a website and then connect my HD2 to the web to complete the sync?
Thank you and waiting.

It requires ActiveSync 3.7 or above
SyncML (and a provider, which supports it!). Supports WiFi!
How about microsoft my phone its syncs everything apart from email. There is one thing it can be slow sometimes to download, but uploading is fine. I was reading that they are working on fixing the download speed.
I use MyPhone. It's good, it has also a duplicate item eraser, but it does not sync with PC, as far as I know.

When I did a search for SyncML, it brought me to the Funambol site.
Looks like they have "cloud" sync options as well. Interesting.
Have you guys tried it?
I too have had problems with WMDC and Activesync. I have found a solution that works for me so I don't get the error messages:
1. Delete ALL items you want to sync from your mobile.
2. Delete ALL partnerships from your mobile.
3. Sync with XP PC (which in my case has all of the correct appointments and contacts which is all I want to sync).
4. Delete ALL partnerships from your Vista PC.
5. Delete ALL items you want to sync from Vista PC.
5. Sync mobile with Vista PC - make sure the device name the Vista PC suggests is the same as the XP PC.
Then hopefully you can sync either PC without any activesync errors. I have over 2000 appointments and over 400 contacts, so there is quite a bit of info. Each sync in 3 and 5 takes about 30 minutes. Each second sync only takes 30 seconds.

Yes, working fine (using it via my provider, which offers a special version of syncml).
I've owned Asus MyPal A639, HTC Touch HD and now - Leo. Never had any of these problems that you mention except that ActiveSync really drives me mad for one particular thing - its virus-like auto-start behavior on both desktop and PPC. Its like sync , sync, sync... a-a-and.... sync, sync, sync. Even disabled it rewrites its entries in the registry every time you start it. Its a pest! On the other side it does what it does - sync(!) and you can use many 3-rd party programs on top of it. I use Jeyo Mobile Companion and MobilEdit! but they rely on ActiveSync. Unfortunately there's no real alternative to ActiveSync and its derivatives (WMDC).

.And I am forced to go through my contacts and remove manually all the duplicates.
Why? There is software out there for your phone that will delete duplicate contacts from your device. Then all you need to do is resync back with outlook.
I'm a wannabe WinMo convert, and my new Droid X will arrive later today. As I surf the web trying to be as ready as possible for the transition, I'm struck by the fact that Android doesn't sync directly with Outlook. And to shortcut the immediate responses, I will never want to sync my personal & private info with "The Cloud" for all the world of hackers to see. The number of times (just within the past year alone) that we've all seen news reports of some supposedly secure Big Brother company having its servers hacked and its users' personal info stolen, means that cloud sync is not now - and may well never really be - a secure option.
From what I can gather from several hours of scouring the reviews, the cobbled-together 3rd-party apps that attempt to allow one to sync an Android phone directly to one's own computer - either via WiFi, BT or a USB cable - all fall short in some critical way or other, such as not including all of Outlook's data fields for a Contact. The data never appears on the phone, and when syncing back to the PC, those particular fields get erased on the PC too! So there's only limited success with "The Missing Sync" & "CompanionLink." (And Android-Sync is still a pre-alpha.)
This leads to the question. What desktop PIM software do you all use --- BESIDES Outlook?
Thanks!
Why don't you directly sync your X with the exchange server you're connected to with Outlook?

He didn't indicate he had an exchange server. Just Outlook on his desktop.
Mason,
As much as I agree with your privacy arguments (and believe me, my friends and associates argue about this all the time), I just don't think Android is going to be fully functional for you if don't "let it go" and put those contacts on your google account.
I went through this when Droid 1 Launched. I had all of my data on my exchange server, and refused to move it to Google. Android 2.01 worked with exchange, but just barely. The whole process frustrated me, and I ended up taking the phone back and getting a TouchPro2.
Since then, I've given in and begun migrating my company info over to Google Apps. I still have my exchange server in the meantime, but all of my mail, etc is going through Google Apps for Domains. This time around, with Droid X, my sync experience is working a lot better.
I know that's not what you want to hear. But if your not willing to put your data in Google's hands (and I don't really blame you for not wanting to), then take the phone back and wait for the new Win Phone 7 devices.
Thanks for your replies. I also used the Touch Pro2 earlier this year, and more recently, the LG Fathom. The latter may be the last of the WinMo 6.5 phones, and that's really a shame, since it really worked well, just lacking HTC's Sense, Motorola's sound quality, and the latest generation's innovative 4.3" capacitive screens. Of course it synced perfectly, and all contacts were immediately available for voice command dialing on the phone.
Today I downloaded the trial of CompanionLink and installed DejaOffice on the Droid X. After the proper setup - which includes setting the Droid X to be in "USB Mass Storage" mode when connected via USB to the PC - it was able to sync calendar, contacts, notes and tasks.
BUT only in a manner of speaking. I promptly found out that I couldn't voice dial any of my contacts. Neither Calendar nor Contacts were sync'd with the Droid X's native Android apps; that required another, VERY long sync, having gone into DejaOffice's Sync Settings and selecting the options to ALSO sync with the Android native apps. And although I went into the Droid X's settings and deselected the option to sync my Google/G-mail account, I still suspect that my information went to the cloud - even though I didn't want it to - since the arrows under the Droid X's "3G" icon in the notification tray were gray the whole time, indicating data transmission. And despite all that, some of my contacts still mysteriously didn't make it into the native app, although they were in DejaContacts. So to voice dial someone inparticular, I STILL had to enter their contact info manually into the native Android contact app.
And all of my categories for all of my Notes were somehow stripped away when the Notes transferred into the Droid X; so now, they're all unfiled.
I don't know if I'm willing to put up with these headaches on a regular basis. But the preliminary reviews of Windows Phone 7 are very disappointing, and it can only be a matter of time before WM6.5 becomes so neglected that it's no longer usable. Oh well.
Zaphod! I remember fondly the Isaac Asimov novels.

"It's like Deja Vu, All over again." These are the exact issues and problems I ran into in my first encounter with Droid. At the time, I felt like the TP2 was a viable alternative to the Droid (wasn't nearly as fast, but had nice screen, better keyboard, etc.) so I just bailed out.
Much like you, I don't believe there is a viable alternative any longer. I too have no enthusiasm for Win Phone 7, and highly doubt that any advanced hardware is going to come with win 6.5X at this time.
I will also pass along this small piece of advice. Either embrace the cloud, or dump the phone. The more 'interconnects' you put between you and your data, the more frustrating this will be. It would be shame to have all of this power, and then limit its potential.
Instead of starting a new thread I thought this would be the best place to ask. First time Android user long time WM user so excuse my ignorance. I have an exchange / outlook setup that is working great with the corp sync of android but I have Notes that of course MS thought it was a good idea not to sync OTA. I used to connect my WM phone via BT or USB and sync the Notes with ActiveSync every couple of days or so to make sure they were updated on both device and Outlook. I know I can't use ActiveSync, what kind of solution does Android provide for this type of sync? I am open to anything as long as it is free as I don't really want to spend money on something that used to be free under WM.
Anyone? No one coming from a TP2 used notes?
I tried once more to sync the X locally, using the Mark/Space Missing Sync software (which requires Fliq Notes & Fliq Calendar to be installed on the phone, and Missing Sync on both the phone and the desktop). This too proved entirely too problematic, with ridiculously erroneous syncs that proved entirely unreliable for a business user.
It took another day of wrangling/justifying/coming to terms, but I finally relented and took Zaphod's advice to embrace the Cloud. gSyncit has proven to be a reliable, easy-to-use sync app for me, but it does require sending all of your stuff to Google, and then setting the phone to sync with Google. Calendar & Contacts work fine, and Notes works by syncing to Google Docs. The latter is then synced to the phone using the GDocs app, downloaded from the Marketplace. I've abandoned Tasks for now, but apparently it can sync by creating a 2nd calendar - a Tasks Calendar - in Google Calendar.
I'm also battling this Outlook to Droid X sync issue. I've come to realize the "best" way to resolve this is to give into Google's global domination plan and simply use my Google Calendar to sync via the cloud. However, I'm worried about duplication of meetings (which has happened in the past with the Dx using CompanionLink and DejaOffice, and with WM6.5 on my Imagio). My other question/issue is whether my contacts associated with my Gmail account have to be merged and subsequently synced with all my business contacts. My Gmail contacts include almost 1,000 email addresses, many of which I never use and don't recognize.
I'm also running Outlook 2007 with Win 7 64-bit. I've tried using Google Calendar Sync but it doesn't play nicely with 64-bit Win 7 (I guess that one sneaked up on Google?).
Any input is appreciated.
I work with small businesses helping them with handhelds and CRM. All my small businesses are using hosted exchange server for mail. Some use Blackberries, others iPhones, a tiny portion Windows Mobile and now I'm "dog-fooding" Android so I can find out what works. Believe it or not, only about 5% of my customers use Outlook tasks. Most rely on the calendar for task management. I myself do use tasks so I'm trialing Remember the Milk and syncing to it from Outlook using Gassumo Outlook to Remember the Milk sync. That's working quite well.
I've found that the contacts and calendar sync have some quirks that I'm coming to grips with - it seems sometimes to use File As, other times not to so sometimes the names are backwards. The calendar has been OK
I'm hoping PocketInformant for Android gets finished soon. They are beta testing now. I've been using it on Windows Mobile for years. It's very polished, those guys know how to build a handheld PIM.
Exchange is a great way to do OTA sync. You put the contact in Outlook and it's on your phone, same with calendar.
I'm a big OneNote user on the desktop, on Windows Mobile I used it only for a single purpose - to label photos I took of equipment I deploy. I would type the client, location, purpose and then take photos of the asset tags, serial numbers etc. To get them onto the desktop I had to USB sync but this system is very handy, if I needed to call Dell about a machine I have the asset tags right at hand. I'm looking at Evernote to take over that duty. I don't really care if it lives on OneNote, I just need to be able to annotate photos and get at them quickly during support calls.
Here's that I wanted to do:
1/ Using a non-sense Android (in my case HyperDroidGBXv4.0 but will work with others)
2/ NOT using any online service (no Gmail, no google, no exchange)
3/ NOT using csv (I wanted to keep contact pictures...)
4/ Keeping a backup of my contact (but not in outlook, you'll understand why later)
5/ Synching my agenda with Outlook 2010.
In some other words, exactly what you can do with sense build + HTC Sync
My setup:
Win 7 x64
Outlook 2010 x32
DAMO 8.0.2 IF6
Lotus 8 Server (on a server... not on my laptop of course)
How to proceed on your comp:
a/ Install HTC Sync or Android SDK to get the driver for the phone's USB.
If you find it, you can also install the driver directly (open the HTCSync package and get the driver)
b/ Install my Phone Explorer (other equivalent soft exist but this one was good for me and free)
How to proceed on your phone (you need a google account empty/fresh)
I/ install android (or reset to factory setting or other...)
II/ with nothing in the phone (if you have somethingit may be send to google later) log to your google account
III/ go in parameter account&sync
IV/ untick all the sync for agenda and contact (you can leave Gmail exxcept if you want to sync your mails also)
V/ install MyPhoneExplorer on your phone (market ok, you have an account)
Voila!!!! connect to your computer, sync with MyPhoneExplorer.
Don't forget to configure the sync. I sync my contact with MPE only and my agenda with Outlook.
I do like this as I manage my agenda with outlook (accept company Lotus meetings) but just need to keep a backup of my personal contact. My company has an LDAP I can access from the phone (via iNotes Ulite).
I know it seems easy (limit stupid) but I assure you that I spent time to find it and I never find this info anywhere. Some know, I'm sure, but noone post it.
You can adapt this to your personal needs. It's a good way to keep company/professional info on your phone without sending it to the Americans (kidding but a company will never allow you to send confidential info at Google).
Hope this will help some of you. If my explanations are not clear just post your questions.
Mistake 1
If you didn't create the google account, it will not initialize the contact and agenda on the phone.
You can launch the sync (it will report no error), but you will not see anything on your phone.
Agenda: empty, if you relaunch the sync, it will resynch... with same result.
Contact: on the phone but anyway not visible in "Contact".
You will see the contact name in the "calls log" only, maybe in the sms (don't remember).
Solved
Thanks for the setup. I removed all personal settings and now it works.
Looks like i synced before the setup of a google-account.

You're welcome. I spent a long time to find this...
Just subscribed to this thread; as a HD2 owner who plans to get a newer device in the future (better if a phone-capable tablet - Tab 2?), but still wants to keep this phone as long as possible, I was looking at Android as a future day-by-day OS, since I'm still on a WM 6.5.5 custom rom.
Other than several objections to Android generally speaking, which I will not be discussing in this post anyway, there is one which, in my opinion, is the main, killer reason why I absolutely do not want to use Android: I don't want my own personal data to be managed in anyway by google.
I didn't know MyPhoneExplorer was able to actually sync via USB the PIM data with several desktop apps, most notably Thunderbird (both contacts and agenda), I only tested Android on SD for a very short matter of time and never delved into it very much, was just astonished at the massive volume of free games in the market
Anyway, MyPhoneExplorer needs wine to run under Ubuntu (will sync to thunderbird work in that case?), and anyway, to get 100% of your PIM data from WM to Android the most conservative way still seems to be to pass through a GMail account, while I would like my phone to have no relationship with google, like, at all, excluding the market, for which it is apparently necessary.
I must say that thanks to your guide I am one step closer to seeing android as a day by day OS, yet there are these few details missing:
1) fully syncing under linux without passing through google (apparently solved: http://www.fjsoft.at/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5835 )
2) moving the whole of your data from WM to Android (maybe syncing to outlook from WM in windows, then into android via myphoneexplorer... but I don't use outlook anyway and I wouldn't like to have to )
Regarding question 1... I can't help you cause I need Outlook to connect to Lotus Notes server... I have many apps I need for my job and I'm not sure yet to have it under Linux (at least I'm sure DAMO doesn't exist for Linux... so it's finish for me).
But I can help on point 2
It could be boring but it works well.
Go on the "sprite backup" website.
They offer for free:
Sprite migrate which give the ability to transfer ALL your PIM data from WM to Android.
BUT it doesn't work with AOSP (or at least I can't make it work).
So ou have first to load a Sense build or Android NOT AOSP.
When you have your data in Android, you can either use my post to offline sync with Outlook or MPE.
Then you load the AOSP build and sync again.
Alternative solution, when your data are in Android, use another app to backup every thing (an app compatible with AOPS), load your AOSP build and restore.
If you don't use an AOSP build... it's straight and easy.
If my answer is not clear, just ask for clarification.
PS: I think spritebackup is not compatible with AOSP because I use HyperDroidGBXv4.0 so I assume it will be the same will all AOSP. I never tested with other AOSP build, maybe it's specific to the one I have.
If you use a sense build, HTCSense manage the sync with Outlook in native. No need to apply my post, no need to create or log a google account. It's the easiest way... but it take much more space inyour NAND (400Mo vs 120Mo). Then you don't have a lot of free space on an European HD2 (the 512 one).
Why, thank you for the detailed howto!
ATM I basically only sync WM6.5 only with my Windows 7 machine, yet after a mobile OS switch I'd very much like to have also my ubuntu laptop synced, and that's why I delved into the linux issue.
I reckon AOSP means Android Open Source Project, yet I'm not sure what distinguishes AOSP from NOT AOSP... could you please elaborate on that? Maybe all the releases which don't come from a certain carrier are AOSP? I suppose most if not all the android NANDs for HD2 are AOSP.
Yet, going sense just for the sake of importing data and then flashing a non-sense (pun not intended) ROM may go fine as well... even if officially sprite migrate if out of beta test, and not available, but I suppose I can easily find it "elsewhere"!! (even if it seems to migrate everything BUT calendar....)
You got me... I don't know so much Android yet.
So to be clear. I used MDJ and especially Gauner's build (good one) and on them spritebackup was working.
Then I went for HyperDroidGBXv5.0 which is the best for me (I mean for what I need from Android)... only issue... spritebackup was not working. So I imagined (maybe a not good shortcut) that it will not work on AOSP. It's written on the first post that all soft are not compatible with xxx (realize now it's maybe gingerbread instead of AOSP). Check Pongster thread, first page.
I didn't notice spritemigrate was not available anymore as I done this just once when I removed WM.
I also never noticed it can't transfer the agenda as I never backup it. If you do so, you will have all your meeting duplicate on the Lotus Server.
In fact, Outlook is my source for agenda (HD2 is just a display unit); HD2 is the source for my contact, I just keep a backup "in case".
You have to adapt all my findings to what you really need to do. But I think it's possible (maybe it required few steps as you can see).
It worth the effort when you have more than 400 contacts!!!
I don't know why I do this but I keep all sms, call logs and of course contacts from the first day of my phone.
I realize I'm maybe a little bit nuts
I do keep all that data too, mainly just to stress out my phone into being a small database
Anyway, regarding sprite products: migrate is off the hook for now, no working products for the time being as this is out of the beta testing period, and there is no official version out.
I've read somewhere (looked like a legit howto website) that you could backup PIM data with WM sprite backup, and restore it inside Android with Android Sprite backup, but it appears that information was bogus, as sprite backup in android doesn't even recognize backup files made from WM, the extension is also different, and changing the extension doesn't solve it.
So the only viable option appears to be the installation of outlook to which you have to move all the data (contacts and agenda are ok, but will outlook save sms and call logs too? don't think so), and then import that data into android with MPE. I probably will have to "borrow" outlook somewhere
I'll check if I still have the beta.
Will PM you in this case.
For sync of sms I know that I can sync my SMS with outlook under Android (MyPhoneExplorer). Careful I just see that I can configure it but I never used it (will try next week and post the result here).
I remember a soft "Jeyo something" which gave me the ability to sync SMS with outlook on WM.
It was not so stable as it sometime crashed outlook. This was due to compatibility issue with DAMO and this was much more important for me. Google it as there is different version of Jeyo, one of it is for the sync WM/Outlook (you can sync but also send&receive SMS from Outlook... except the problem with DAMO very nice tool).
The Migrate tool can actually be still downloaded off the market, as there's a BETA2 around, it's just that the program refuses to work as it's expired.
I didn't try the old method of scamming the software telling it I live in the past (like in the old PC days), but the fact that the beta is the only functioning tool, and it's expired leaving no other options is sad enough to have deprived me of the interest in using it
When I sort out the reason for which android seems to vaporize the battery as soon as I start the superram build, then I may get hold of outlook to do the sync job together with MPE... thanks for the help until now
Battery issue, you can try this build. I'm very happy with it: HyperDroidGBXv5
It's always on the first page of the NAND forum as so many people posts comments. I read it for a long time now and it has very small issues for everyone.
You just need to check if you like it or not. It required CWM... but if you manage to sync with outlook, you'll have no problem to use CWM
For the migration tool, didn't know it will expired. Lucky I move to Andoid long time ago.

Hi and thank you very much for your share and the very useful information.
I am currently using a HD2 (OS: 5.2.21913, ROM: 3.14.707.3 & Radio: 2.15.50.14) and have always wanted to switch over to running Android on this wonderful piece of hardware.
I have experimented running the SuperRAM FroYo Version 1.5 by darkstone1337
and must say that the performance was really, really fast and impressive.
However, one major consideration that is holding me back from switching over to Andorid is the potential lost of infromation in my Contacts (600+) and Appointments. These are currently sync to Outlook 2003 and like you, I prefer to manage these directly on my computer and not through a third party like Google.
Hence, I would like to find out from you:
1. Did you have any problem syncing your Contacts and Appointments on Outlook 2010 to your HD2 running the Andorid OS?
2. Did you encounter any loss with the Contact details like single contact with multiple addresses and contact numbers?
3. Did you also managed to transfer all of your SMS from Windows Mobile to Android? If so, what software did you use?
Hope you can share your experience and thanking you in advance!
Did you m
1.
You mention getting the usb driver off the htc sync exe package... did you manage it, and so you can attach the driver in here?
Otherwise, as I'm downloading the almost 70MB (ach) package off htc website, I will try and get the driver off that instead. I do not plan to install that monster on my pc anyway
EDIT: I suppose there is no point in uploading ~15mb worth of stuff to megaupload, the setup exe uncompresses the BMP usb driver and HTC Driver setup in temp folders, but those files are still other installers. I didn't go as far as to exact the driver inf's, so well, good grief, just download and install htc sync
@desert1
As explained i only sync my agenda with outlook. I use the phone just to display meetings. Contact are sync with mpe just as backup. I will provide more explanations from my laptop
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App

Hi truc007,
Many thanks and looking forward to hear from you soon!
Cheers!
Managed to copy over agenda and contacts by "borrowing" outlook 2007, sncing to it with WM, then syncing from it to android with MPE. Outlook would crash the first time whenever it was called by MPE, but after a reboot it just worked, even if very slowly.
After that, I suppose you can ditch Outlook since you can have agenda and contacts sync through MPE with thunderbird (with lightning addon).
Anyway, I need to thank the OP "negatively": thanks to him explaining how to copy over PIM data without google poking its nose in it, I could focus on actually testing android instead of being distracted by the PIM transfer dilemma.
Doing this, I realized a shocking thruth:
Android is all fun and games, until you actually need to work with your phone.
Even PocketPC2002's excel was better than any spreadsheet app you find in the market, handbase for android is crippled to the point that any other free database in the market is equal in functionalities, and still useless for me.
And after that, I didn't go on checking alternatives to other applications I use on WM to manage my job
On the other side, when you need to do flashy things with your phone, like browsing imdb or keeping a workout/calory burning schedule, or manage your own virtual cafeteria, well android is good
It works for me, too.
Thanks

So do not test WM7!!!! It's worst
The problem is that you're not the targeted customer anymore
In the past, "profesional" bought handheld devices. There were not fun but all the sync, office app... were mandatory. Now, these devices are for normal end users. At least with android you can still have a "sort of" profesional use even if it's more job than with WM6.
That's life... but for "profesional geeks" it's hard days
nb: sorry for the writing, GB is not my first language.
