I was wondering if anyone had managed to view the MP4 files on a PC that get created when you do video capture with the XDA II.
I have tried copying the files across to the PC and playing then with WM9 but it doesn't like them.
I also tried playing them using the DivX player that comes with the latest Divx codec bundle but I get the following error
Invalid MPEG-4 File Format: file doesn't have an iods atom

Has anyone else had any success?

Hi,
Apologies in advance if I'm being incredibly stupid here, but has anyone successfully taken video clips using the xda2 camera and played them on the desktop? I've upgraded media player on the desktop to 9, I've installed the latest divx codecs - nothing. Both apps just complain at me.
Many thanks.
Spike.

Hi,

I got Quicktime Pro, it enables me to edit and rotate the moves as I wanted to. But when you save after say rotating the video it save the file as a Quicktime movie file which does not play on the i-mate. Any one know how to play that file on the phone.
Window Media player doesn't recognize.mp4, you could change the capture format to Motion-JPEG AVI. WMP does recognize this type of document. I have experieneced the same problem b4, since i change the capture format, it works perfect on my PC. Regarding the movie making, you could use Window XP's window movie maker. It also recognize the .AVI type of document. Once you import the document to Window Movie Maker, it will automaticall save it to the WMV format, which could be played on your PPC. Hope that helps your guys.
Dear All,
Is there a software that i need in order to convert Windows media Player 9 files, in .avi format before downloading to my Xda Exec? I tried a couple of times but it just says the format is not supported. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks
regards,
Ravi
When you got WMV files your Universal's media player shouldn't have much problems with it. For larger files, say like ripped DVD's I use PocketDivxEncoder to shrink them & TCPMP to play them back on my Magician. Works like a dream & both programs are free .
Regards, M
I often use Windows Media Encoder to convert avi's and mpegs to wmv files.
The built in wizard includes options for Pocket PC sized files (320x240, low-ish quality sound) but you can totally vary the Bitrate (video & sound) to suit whatever quality/size balance you prefer.
You can download it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx
And it's totally free.
The only downside is that it doesn't seem to be able to rip a DVD directly and convert to wmv. I normally need to use a 3rd party ripper to convert the dvd to mpeg or avi.
Nowadays though with my new 4Gig SD Card - I just whap the full movie (700 odd meg) onto it and play it with the best PPC media player available: TCPMP (The Core Project Media Player)
(Oh - Windows Media Encoder is also useful if you have a TV card in your desktop - you can stream the TV out onto the net/intranet allowing you to watch your programmes on your XDA
Still unable to convert
Hi guys,
I downloaded the Windows media encoder but i am unable to convert the .avi file. Everytime i choose the input file and the output and click finish it says ''Input media format is invalid'' Why is that?????
I chose the Pocket PC option as i would like to view the file on my XDA but i keep getting this error msg.
Would it be helpful, if i downloaded another software for conversion???
regards,
Still unable!!!!!
Hi guys,
Downloaded the PocketDivxencoder and converted the file but when i tried playing it on my XDA it says file format not supported!!!!!
Is it a problem with the Windows Media player that i am using?????
Is Windows media player the default player for the XDA? Would it be helpful if i installed another Media Player?
Where can i get this TCPMP ?
Any suggestions would greatly appreciated,
thanks and best regards,
What kind of avi are you using, a divx maybe? Cause avi is just a container for many formats & wme doesn't support all of them.
Regards, M
Just google for tcpmp it's really easy to find.

OK DONE!!!
Hi guys,
Sorry for the multiple posts, but i finally managed to download TCPMP and converted the files via PocketDivxencoder and it now works...FINALLY!!!!!
Sorry to have bothered everyone,
regards,
I got it with the PocketDivxencoder too.
BUT: I got several avi-files, is it possible to get only one big file?

I have taken some video on the 7500 and copued the file to my Vista PC, it won't play. In my stupid world I assumed that Microsoft would have used a format on WM6 that could also be played natively by a Windows PC, am I asking too much.
Anyone got a simple (free) fix ?
install FFdshow (dated 03/01/2008) and haali media splitter (in that order) and you will be able to play just about every video file you come accross within windows media player !! if windows media player ever complains in future and says "I dont know this file type should I try to play it anyway" just say yes and it will play (if the above two files are installed)
The solution is simple: change the extension from .mp4 to .3gp
This will play with RealPlayer or QuickTime Player.

thanks for that but same thing happened as with videora, it says "the file may be copied for storage or transport use only. it is not supported for use on the device". i converted it to mp4. think it might be to do with the video file itself i`m converting, its off a torrent. also when playing it through windows media player on my computer it says: "the selected file has an extension (.mp4) that is not recognised by windows media player, do you want to try anyway" an when playing the file the sound is there but no picture. do you need codecs for mobiles??? because when 1st playing the original file on my computer before converting it for my phone, same thing happened and i had to download codecs to watch it.
anyway thanks for your reply

Videora (TD2 Version) works perfectly for me...
Can you play back the original file on your PC?
And the converted one?
TCMP
Tcmp is your solution !
If you do a little search of this forum you may find a version of tcmp supporting the srt files.
With tcmp, you don't need to convert your avi files. It run pretty well in full screen with 700 mb divx files on my topaz.
use pocketdivxenc
Hi everyone,
I use this http://www.pocketdivxencoder.net/EN_index.htm on my topaz and it's incredible....try it.
I use Beta version 0.4.5 and the templates tool, and i saw on my topaz Terminator Salvation, District 9 & Start Trek without problem on CorePlayer .
I hope it works for u
sorry for my english !!!

thanks for this, will the files play on windows media player on my phone when i`v used this or do i need a different player?
Usually Divx/Xvid..files for PC have an exagerated bitrate for PPC use, that is why it is wise to convert them.
Here's my technique:
1) convert original divx/xvid file with HTC Touch HD Video Converter, available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
2) Copy resulting .mp4 file to SD
3) Play with HTC Album
Note: Coreplayer can play this file aswell, but I think that htc album playback is smoother.
Unfortunately HTC Touch HD Video Converter doesn't rip dvd, can anyone suggest some all-in-one application to easily make divx?
