Jam in car?

How can i hook up my jam to my headunit in my car so i can use media player?There must be a way!

Maybe you should provide us with the information what headunit you're using!? Basically, you'll need some way to input a 2,5 mm jack into your radio, using some kind of adapter if there's no direct input.

I used to use a cassett adapter (carkit) for my sony unit.
Half year ago, I get one of this (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-YkZvOpNsh6B/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=50900&I=158XA300) from ebay to enable the AUX input for my unit. Sound is a bit better and look more professional since I run the wire better w/ this unit.
p.s. need to 2.5.mm to 3.5 mm adapter. I remember there was a thread in this forum taking about this.

I have bought the Brodit Active Car Holder, and glued the 2,5mm to 3,5mm adapter to it. Then I have a cable 3,5mm jack to cinch, which goes into my car stereo AUX sockets.
This works also with an adapter cassette.

Sounds like another goood option.Do i basically have to get a jack converter from 2.5mm to 3.5mm and plug that in the jam,then a cable from the jam to the car holder?Sorry if i'm seeming thick!What parts will i need altogether so i can order them all.This seems lie a better option.thanks

You basically tune your headunit to any available/free/weak FM frequency and do the same on the unit above and you get great sound!
P.S. You will still need the 2.5 to 3.5 convertor.
All is available on ebay, which is where i bought my kit- works a treat

I tried it also and all I can about it is just sucks. I already did a mod on it to increase the length of the antenna. It improves the sound quality a bit (and it GREATLY improve the range of broadcast) but the quality is still sucks.
1. Sound quality is even worst than the cassette carkit option and a lot of noise in the sound.
2. In some area, yr transmitter is fighting w/ the local boardcast and you have to switch freqency
3. Battery only last a few hrs. And you need an extra cigar adapter if you want to use the car power. The totally # of wire to get all the work done is a mess
4. The wire comes w/ the unit is too short and it hard to figure out where to put the unit if U are using a windshield mount for yr jam (eg: GPS, video playback).
Now, the only moment I use this unit is when I go travel w/ a rental car

It says at the bottom that it only works in north america.Is this not correct then?

First of all, in my opinion, I think this product works greats for me. I see you are in the UK so it will work good for you too (best frequency that I find to use it 88.1 FM).

It's only legally available to buy in North America- that's why they can't sell it anywhere else; but it will work fine here in the UK.
Like I said, go on to ebay and they'll have it on there as well as the 2.5 to 3.5 convertor you need.

A downside to the above product is that it has as frequency- so it may not work so well in certain countries.

It's the car kit I'm waiting for. Now that I have a PDA that sits happily on the desk like an open laptop, a USB lead is fine for me I think.

well, www.arkon.com do some Universal mounts (nb. Universal as in one-size-fits-all). I'm using the CM520 (I think - I'll check tonight) which I bought for my old ipaq 4150. It has 2 USB power connections on the bottom and a 3.5" speaker jack, with a speaker in the back. I have a usb to 4150 cable for it but I've just swapped with the usual USB cable that the XDA Exec comes with and it holds it pretty well. I'm a little tempted to add some velcro or something since the XDA Exec is quite porky, but I'll see how it goes for now. I don't know about handsfree though as it's not designed for it. I currently use a Jabra headset for the phone, Tomtom and a bluetooth gps for the satnav - this keeps everything charged and happy. I might get a bluetooth car stereo for the handsfree instead of the Jabra as it does chafe a bit during long journeys...
Does anyone know of any decent cases for the HTC Universal? I've seen a few at PDAir and Proporta, but I'm not 100% happy with them as I'd have to take the phone out of the case before putting it on the cradle.

Using a BT mobile as a handset for the JasJar

I really don't like the BT headsets yet, still prefer holding a mobile to my ear but the Jasjar is a little big to use with comfort as a phone.
Has anyone thought about using one of these tiny mobiles with BT as a handset paired to the Jasjar? Can this be done.
I would like to holster or belt my jasjar and just drop a normal moby into my pocket???
Also anyone made a bluetooth handset instead of headset, like a mobile but just works as a BT handset?

I doubt it could be done with handsets at present as the bluetooth specification requires services to be available and for headsets, this is the handsfree/headset profile.
Current handsets look for this to be available on devices to allow audio to go to them, however the current handsets will probably only offer network access, dialup networking, file transfer and possibly a serial port to the jasjar
Interesting concept though, having a handset as a bluetooth headset and something I'd probably be quite interested in seeing developed myself!

I've just bought an O2 XDA Exec and has exactly the same thought, but could not get it to work.
It depends on the bluetooth "profiles" supported by the mini-handset. I tried it with my previous Sony Ericsson phone (can't remember the model number, but it's about 2 yrs old) and I could only use the handset as a modem (i.e. not much use). You might have better luck with newer handsets, but I would not rely on any mobile phone shop being able to tell you which incoming profiles the handset supports.
Note that there are likely to be problems with caller-display on the handset as the exec only appears to send the incoming number (not the contact name) to the BT device.
If you're set on this approach, I would suggest trying it on any handset you propose using. I can't see that it's worth spending money on this solution though - you may be better off with a phone and a separate PDA.
In order to get a small handset for day to day phone use, I ended up (yesterday) buying a Sony Ericsson HBH660 headset for £50. It has a small caller number display and the voice recognition system (on the exec) seems to work well for making regular calls. I keep it in my pocket and put the exec in my coat/jacket.

I badgered some headset manufacturers last year to make the following:
Bluetooth device with handsfree profile (client), included within a *tiny* mobile phone case together with a screen and a keypad, as well as the usual bluetooth headset electronics.
Make it tiny, and trendy - perhaps from brushed aluminium and I reckon such a device would do well. It would have more room inside than a mobile phone case so the battery could be large, and offer perhaps a month of use between charges. It should also charge directly via Mini USB socket and not require any docking stations etc which need lugging about.
Would anyone else here buy such a device, if it were priced at premium headset prices? £50-60 perhaps?
I want it cause holding a universal to your ear causes arm ache! and using a traditional bluetooth headset in a shopping centre make you look like a nob!
Does the headset 1.2 handsfree profile even support a bluetooth headset device with a keyboard?

connection - non bluetooth question/search for leads

bear with me on this one while I try to explain...
I have an o2 XDA Exec that has tomtom 6 on it
I want to use the phone/sat nav, while on my bike
I have got a Starcom Advance - http://www.starcom1.com/ that is all working on the bike
Now, I do not want to use bluetooth if I can avoid it....
The starcom has a seperate connector for the phone and for satnav. (Both 3.5mm jacks)
I think that if I can find a 3.5 mm double male lead then I am hoping I can just plug it into the xda and the starcom - but what lead do I need? (Needs to allow the microphone to work btw)
I am hoping that some kind person knows what lead is needed so I can source one from maplins etc.... or that it just will not work!

I have the same problem! I use the Intraride system, but it's exactly the same set-up as the StarCom (used to have one) The solution I found was something like the Ericsson bluetooth handsfrees. They come with a detachable earpiece, so you can connect the units to the intercom using the phonelead that should have been supplied in the intercoms box.
First option is the HBH-20, there is one on ebay now for next to nothing.

I then tried the HBH-200, which is similar, but includes a CallerID function. Nothing on ebay, but here is a link so you can see what I mean:

Both devices are the size of a box of matches, so no troubles there! What I did find is that both units can be querky with the bluetooth connection, (down to the phone not the handsfree and this was on the OE o2 ROM, and one of the cooked WM6 versions) and also the volume was a bit quiet. Solution I've gone with now, is to swap my SIM into a normal phone (Nokia 6310i and universal adapter) and just plug that in. I also had good results with the Motorola V50 which has a 2.5mm connection that will just plug straight in.
Hope you find something that works for you! Although if anyone knows of an adapter to allow normal 2.5mm handsfrees to be connected to the 3.5mm socket on the universal...I'd love to know too! I have already looked at the adapters from Expansys, but these only allow PC type headsets to be connected (ie those with a separate 3.5mm headset and earphone lead)

THB Bury kit - Poor Mic quality

Hi, I have a THB Bury kit with a hard wired (not Blue tooth) Kaiser mount, the audio from the speaker is fine but the Mic quality in a call is awfull with buzzing and noise! to the point it is unusable most of the time.
ive checked the install and everything seems fine, moved the mic to the bottom of the rear veiw mirror and tried various other locations without improvment, ive had a look arround the web for this fault and although it is mentioned as a possible design flaw i cant find much info on a fix.
has anyone had experience of this or any suggestions??
The car is 2001 Volvo V40 20T and the kit is Bury TakeTalk with controller mounted under glove box, speaker is mounted on left kick panel and mic is now mounted on bottom of rear view mirror!

I have exactly the same problem.
Someone suggested to me (can't remember if it was on here on on another car forum I'm on) that there ia an issue with the mic connection pin from cradle to docking connection.
The suggestion was to disconnect/reconnect, but I have tried and given up on this.
Pretty poor show for something that cost a total of £150 with both the System8 kit and then the cradle. My TyTn/Hermes cradle never had this trouble - and don't get me started on the fact I had to buy a new one due to the slightly offset usb connection........
