If I copy mp3 file in i-mate jam, can I set that mp3 file as a ringtone? because now in sounds and notification, there are only limited number of tones which can be set. I want to put more ringtones which are in mp3 format.
Search
type "MP3 ringtone" and choose the "Search for all terms" radio button :

Helloe guys. As I am new to WM please tell me, where do I have to place my own ringtones (mp3) in order to use them as ringtones (this one I know), for SMS alert, alarm etc etc. THANK YOU>
Directory is: Windows\Rings\
Or simply select desired audiofile with Stylus and hold until the menu opens. Then select "Use as ringtone".
That was not exactly what I asked, but thanks for the answer anyway. U cannot use mp3 for text messages, the WAV files that u CAN use for sms , are to be placed in windows root directory..and so on.... This is what I found out today.
i have made a mp3 a wav and a wma file put them in the windows folder but the only ringtone i can select are default ones : default , mystic, oldphone ringer ect, if i change the event to sms or missed call i can pick a mp3 or wav no problem is the a lock down in reg or am i missing somthing
How can i set an Mp3 or wav as ringtone alert?
Thanks
I want to now that too? i have tried set the tones in my device/windows where all the alert/notification are but not working?? why is that? you dont see the tone in the list att all when you set a notification tone. I have tried mp3 wav wma tones.
what I did (and which is working) : I have 2 sounds that I wanted to use (1 for sms alert and another one as ringtone for my phone). the ringtone, I converted it to mp3 (mono, 96kbps) and put it in the windows\rings folder. for the sms alert, I left it as wav and put it in windows folder (mp3 wasn't recognized). in that way, they both appear at the right place in sound/notifications.
Ok, so you must convert the sounds? if you want to use them as notification tone. Thanx! gamin, I try that!
You can use ether MP3 or WAV as a ringtone, but only WAV for SMS.
SMS tones need to be in the windows folder.
If you want to use an MP3 as a ringtone all you have to do is hold the stylus on the MP3 to get the menu up and select "set as ringtone".
I know this works in WM6 but not sure about WM5.
does it exists a software to manage rings (for all alerts)?
Thanks
Guys for the life of me i cant see where i can change the tone to a mp3 or another tone other then the defaults. Is there a way???
Any help appreciated.
u can change the SMS ringtone by putting a WAV file in the \Windows\Rings
then go to
Settings-> Sound & Notifications -> Notifications-> In events choose Messaging: New Text Message then choose the WAV file u copied.
Enjoy
Thanks for that.Is it only wav that can go in there?
Cant find it!
Gone into the messaging after putting a wav in the windows/ringtones but cannot see the wav in the list??

SOLVED
Seems the wav file had to go in the main windows directory to be recognised on the list.
how do i change message ringtone to mp3? someone help me plssssssss!
hey
just put the .mp3 in the documents folder on your phone
you should have a My Documents\My Ringtones (preferred) or there is a Windows\Rings, either one will do.
then go to settings, sounds, notifications tab, from Event: drop down select Phone: Incoming call.

the Q is for atext message not an incoming call..
So this won't help.
As far as i now, you cannot use an mp3 for this.
change it into a WAV frmat and it will work.
it might be possible you need to put it in a special location (such as the windows folder or the my documents folder)
Yeah it's possible,
either do as gazzacbr said, but choose "Messaging: New text message" you can change almost all the phones sounds here...
I preffer this easier way (for me)
Slide to settings > Press Sounds > Scroll to bottom for "Notification Sounds" > Press the notification you want to change and select it off the list
If the mp3 isnt listed then use the FileManager, find your mp3 and hold down on it, when the menu appears scroll down to "Set as Ringtone" which actually just puts it in on the list of selectable tones. Then simply repeat the steps above.
- I should probably note, I downloaded an update off HTC's website that had something to do with MP3 ringtones but I could initially do this beforehand anyway.

I can't find it... can you please put it here?
He said he wants a mp3 to be used as a new text message tone. this is something even i wanted to ask, but well it cant be done. tried everything. the patch is for something else. tried putting it into my ring tones folder, tried putting the mp3 (a 26sec file) into windows ring folder but na nothing, restarted still nothing. the only thing i think will work is to try converting it into .wav format.
@rvrosa its there in touch2 support.
it can be done. i currently use a MP3 file as my SMS alert, and a different MP3 as my email alert.
If my previous technique doesnt work, copy the desired MP3 to the root of your microSD card. It will automatically list it in the selectable ringtones
under mobile device go into the folder that says application data then the folder that says sounds, put the mp3 in there and you should be able to select it for your sms.
