Hi All
wonder if anyone else has had issues with bluetooth and infra red transmission? i can pair perfectly with any device but as soon as i try and transmit files or someone transmits to me it fails immediately...........??no reason for error and no error except "failed".
I had this functioning perfectly for one day and now it just does not work....reset handset (hard reset) and setup again....still wont work.....
Anyone help please? i really have given up with calling 02 support, ittakes like an age to get someone on the phone and only occasionaly do you get anyone thats even touched the device! sorry to any 02 support people who do know what they are talking about but when i ask you people about vpn/terminal services over wifi i expect you to know what vpn means at least!....jeeees

Seems a little harsh. I don't suppose the O2 support team are trained in the sort of networking technologies that you mention, since O2 is a mobile phone company, not a Windows or networking consultancy. They're more your average customer-services kinda folk. Try asking them about O2's services, phone options or tariffs.
Oh. Hold on. I did, and they were crap.  The first operator told me that video calling on my monthly tariff costs 50p per minute. The second operator confirmed that (for the forseeable future) the calls are inclusive, in your montly minutes.
I don't think O2's customer service is great, but I would't call them expecting help on networking or Windows technologies.
PS. No offence intended, hence the
How many devices have you tried to pair it with? The problem may not be with the stack on the XDA but the other device.

Yep, i would also ask the same. Maybe you have tried this: ( I think no pairing even needed)
Go to file explore;. tap and hold on a small file. Choose beam. Then you should see: Infrared, and under it: searching.
Does it find the other Bluetooth device?
Huib
Ive had a few problems with pairing up with the XDA IIi (my other phone)
Same thing, just randomly fails. Going to try it with an S very soon.
why should O2 support WiFi and VPN such?
These are things which are not network related thus, O2 cannot be held responsibile for any of these not working.
Wifi will work if its setup correctly. Every single Wifi setup is different in some way shape or form which is why mobile phone operators wont support features like this. However if you cant make a phonecall, send a txt or MMS im sure they would get the problem solved.
At the end of the day guys yes 02 are responsible for only call related stuff, but to sell equipment and not know what it does and how to support it is crap! (sorry but it is!).
Wifi works perfectly and i have had no issues with this, bluetooth will pair with devices but send and receive to none...have tried my tablet pc, Samsung D600, Nokia 6230 etc....all fail.....
VPN over wifi does not work correctly unless you can hit a public DNS address (i.e doesnt work via I.P).....however it does work over 3G??? funny that isnt it....the free way of connecting to my office or other servers doesnt work but but the expensive way does???hmmmmm
Anyway i'm moaning too much now, its a nice phone and things kinda work but i'm not overly impressed! bluetooth is something i do use as is terminal services and it'd be nice if they both worked as i would expect.....

Hi,
I'm using a Magician with WM2003
I have a GPRS connection setup for with t-mobile using a proxy.
If I'm not connected it works great- I press send/receive for my e-mail it connects and gets my messages just fine.
If I do it again 5 minutes later also fine.
The problem is after a long time the connection is still active, but when I go to do a Send/Receive-
I get an "unable to connect to the incoming mail server" message. All my other internet apps also will not work. If I turn on flight mode and then turn it off (to disconnect from my GPRS connection) and then try the internet again- it will work fine.
I think what triggers this is going into an area with no service. The GPRS connection stays active- and when I try to use it (even when I'm back in an area with service) it won't work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Daniel
I found this, may help ....
Look for "KeepAliveTime" on the right side of this page
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa915651.aspx
It may help, good luck!
I have this same issue with the htc touch. Not sure what to do about it. I see the keepalivetime but it isn't a hack or a reg edit (that I can tell).
bump
anyone having this kind of an issue on your htc touch?

Exactly the same here - issues with push mail and when using messenger have to turn flight mode on and off to reconnect to the service - only been like this for few weeks now - never used to be a problem before
So it looks like T-mob have changed something recently. I have been searching various forums trying to find an answer but no luck. TMob reckon nothing has changed when i called them.
I too have the same problem and I am also on t-mob UK.
I will call Tmob again tomorrow and hopefully get through to someone in their tech dept. I knew it had to be Tmob, I had changed nothing on my handset, but they refused to acknowledge that anyone else had a problem.
I use cingular/att with these issues so it's not just tmobile.

You are not alone here....... nearly every day a soft reset
Also the same with my trinity - but not so often
Having spoken to T-Mob UK, the general thinking is they are imposed restrictions on usage for the basic walk and web service. This includes IMessenger and push e-mail (I knew about IM bit not Push Mail!)
The engineer seems to think the connection will be frozen if the network detects
a IM service (the heatbeat of push mail mail looks to be included in this).
Solution: Upgrade to Walk and Web Plus (extra £5) per month.
I have been given a free month to try and see if this solves my issues. I will let you know how it goes.
Now this could be T-mob fobbing me off and trying to get an extra five quid off me, lets wait and see. Any of you guys on the plus service already??
I was guessing that might be the case, let know how it goes if I need to upgrade
I use the mediamax bundle with cingular/att. I wonder if this is indeed the case. I would need to upgrade to the pda plan, which would be pricey. Mabey that's the case?
Well, I'm afraid it was a nice story that Tmob told me, but it hasn't sorted the problem! I will keep an eye on it over the next few days just in case it takes a few days to set their end, but as of today I still loose connection.
OK, finally got it sorted....! I have GPRS connected all the time now without loosing connection.
Looks like T-mob were telling me the truth. After talking to a T-mobile engineer, he confirms that they now have the network infrastructure to detect and block services that are not covered in certain WnW packages. This went live just over a month ago.
The basic WnW package does not allow Push Email & IM, if detected the network will block your IP. Turning off and on the radio will give you a new IP, so will work again until detected.
For Push Email you will need the WnW plus service. Now the interesting part is if you add on the plus service (a bolt on) it will still not work. You will need to add the package onto your contract not as a bolt on.
Many people have just paid extra for the bolt on but the T-Mob system doesnt recognise this and still blocks Push Mail & IM.
It doesnt cost any extra or change your contract length, its just a different way the customer service people upgrade your account.
Unfortunately the customer service rep that upgraded my account did not know this, but the engineer new straight away.
Hope this helps people.
Thanks for the info.....I use ATT/Cingular. What are the odds they started this same thing a month ago? I've been noticing this problem for about that length of time.
Hi all!
It´s the same for me
I´m using Eplus with Cortado email push in Germany
Every morning a soft reset
Any solutions possible within the registry
Greetings
Gregor
Just installed Windows Live Messenger on my Hermes with WM6 and when I try to sign in I get this message:
"There is a problem with the server. Please try again later"
I can log in using eBuddy. Is this a problem with WLM or is it 3UK?
Cheers

www.3mobilebroadband.com
www.3mb.co.uk/forums
I've got the same problem with my Trinity on swedish 3.
I just called their tech support, and according to them it should be working just fine...
I've had a call logged with Three for weeks now, and to be frank, their Indian call centre makes a chocolate teapot in the middle of a Sahara desert look like a positively sensible idea.
They keep coming back saying that they can’t help, because the TYTN II isn’t a “3G” phone (meaning a THREE BRANDED PHONE) (they don’t seem to understand the difference between “Three” and “3G”)
So, as a first off, (as this is the only reproducible easy error I’ve found so far), can I ask you to try going to www.zdnet.co.uk and see if you get a web page or and error. If you get the same error as me, which is “Request Error (Invalid Request)” then it will give me a bit more evidence to go and beat them up over again as H3G are ADAMANT that they do not block ports and don‘t monitor traffic, however, I believe they have a bluecoat proxy server monitoring everything, and they are notoriously easy to stuff up if you don’t know what you are doing with them.
Anyway, on to the Messenger problem…..
From my testing so far…….
Test 1
If you have even so much as a whiff of a Three SIM in the phone, it won’t connect to messenger over the Three Data connection OR over Active Sync.
If you connect it up over active sync or wireless with either the radio (i.e. phone) disabled, or without a Three SIM card, Messenger WILL connect using your alternative data connection (e.g. ADSL connection)
Conclusion - A Three SIM card some how stuff’s messenger (Seen a similar thread with a Vodafone SIM, but I don’t have one of those to test with).
Test 2
If you pop a T-Mobile or Orange SIM in the phone and perform the same tests, messenger is fine over either active sync, wireless or the Mobile operators data connection. Conclusion - This backups the previous conclusion that having a Three (H3G) SIM in there kills messenger.
(At this point, if anyone from marketing at T-Mobile or Orange is reading, if either of you will offer the same data mobile broadband data tariff (obviously in a working format) as Three on PAYG, we will ALL drop H3G quicker than that chocolate teapot will melt).
Test 3
Three are various custom versions of WindowsLive.cab knocking around and some of the earlier ones will actually connect (even with a Three SIM card installed) and actually work, however the Live Mail part then gets stuffed, as its not got all the features of the current Live, with the Push Mail, and the download options, but it does give a Conclusion that earlier Live messenger clients will connect.
The later ones (including Dutty’s ones) still fail to connect, so Dutty, if you are reading, and have any ideas, please feel free to chip in.
Test 4
MSN Mobile (NOT live version)
I found an earlier version of MSN Mobile, and this seems ok ish (i.e. messenger will connect, but again, you lose the nice push mail functionality)
Other Tests,
I’ve tried various combinations of various Radio and OS Rom’s and live.cab installs, without success.
Tests I’d like to try, but don’t have the hardware for
The one test I haven’t been able to try yet (and would like to) is seeing if messenger can be made to connect from a non Three device (i.e. my TYTN II, or your Hermes) whilst using a proper Three Connection.
i.e. Messenger on my TYTN II, going through Active Sync to a laptop, which in turn is connected to the Internet via a Three branded phone or USB Dongle. If That fails to connect, then it’s a fair conclusion that Three do in fact block ports, as the Dongle would be doing the connection. If it worked, then it would be fair to say that the actual SIM is causing the problem. Either Way, it would be really good solid evidence to go and get support to actually take notice.
Which would lead onto another Test, which is if there are any Three Users out there who it works, for, trying you SIM in either of our devices to prove if its some Three SIMS that are actually causing the problem.
(In techie speak, does anyone know if its possible from a SIM card to have a hosts file, or do port redirection ON THE SIM?)
I work up in London, so if by any chance, you are in that Area, please PM me, and maybe we can meet up to try and come up with ideas.
Hi gjbird999,
well i have done a few tests as suggested by you:
www.zdnet.co.uk returns "Request Erroe (invalid_request)"
WiFi ON/phone function OFF/3UK sim in - MSN messenger fails to connect.
WiFi ON/3UK sim removed - MSN messenger connects successfully!
WiFi ON/phone function OFF/3UK sim back in - MSN messenger connects successfully!
WiFi off/phone function ON/3UK sim in - MSN messenger fails to connect.
i guess this kinda proves that 3UK is blocking the ports either by mistake or deliberately the thing is MSN Live can connect to my hotmail mailbox ok to check email etc, just won't connect to MSN messenger.
I have tried calling the 3UK customer service for some other problems before and lets just say that it was amuzing enough to try get them to understand the problem let alone sorting it....
i hope you can get somewhere with them! keep us posted please!
In a sweidish TyTn II forum we are alot of people that gets the error msg There is a problem with the server. Please try again later..
Its been like this for 3-4 weeks..
I have Tre and its still not working
I have a Swedish Tele2 business telephone subscription and i can connect to MSN Live without any problems. However I got a nag about 30 days trial when starting MSN Live the first time, isn't MSN Live for free?
Edit: Tele2 is the part of Comviq used mainly by business users...
I get the same message on 3UK, strange that a sim cardstops you from using MSN when your connected via wifi!

well i am not entirely sure about this because I did managed to connect after reinstalling the sim with the phone boot up without the phone function on, but if i just switch the phone function off then try connect with WiFi without rebooting the phone, it won't connect
using WiFi is not so much use for me because if i can access wifi, it would probably means i am at home already! I guess i can always use the webmsn but that kinda sucks...
Three tech support is on hold, and I'm back to M$ basing at the moment. But I'll try to get into the local 3 store and see what zdnet does on their "open access" 3g Cards that are totally unresticted
hiya, just wanted to post up as im in the exact same boat, 3uk contract using my own htc hermes. having the exact same problems with live as has been described here. so good luck ! if you want any help with anything i'll be happy to help
same problem in italy!!
Ive got live installed on schaps rom -
It seems MICROSOFT now want to charge me for using it - I keep getting a message saying I can use for 30 days trial period and then will have to BUY a pass to keep going.
Cmon ms Btards whats going on.
Anyone else getting this.
will think twice when upgrade time comes if it isnt free
Jon
After first emailing me back saying there were no problems, and was all my fault for not setting up the phone properly M$$$$$$$ admit there MIGHT be a problem their end (or at least with their crappy software)
Thank you for writing back to Windows Live Mobile Technical Support. This is Sheila and I understand that you are still unable to connect your HTC TyTn II device to Windows Live Messenger. I am sorry for the frustration and inconvenience.

I'm also on 3UK. I was using windows live messenger fine on my E65 (not the crappy version they give you) up until about a month ago. and since switching to my hermes, I also haven't been able to use msn messenger.
i suspect its all down to 3UK.
i only say this because on my E65, no updates were installed, it just one day stopped working
just want to make an update, my SPV M3100 on 3UK network is now able to connect to MSN again, I haven't changed any settings on the phone at all, so i guess it is either 3UK sorted out their porting issues or MS did... just glad it is working again!!
As is mine
Hey folks,
First up I know this is against my T'n'C's but we're talking hypothetically here ;-) oh yes and the fact that I was originally sold this contract for connecting my laptop and PSP to the internet even although it's expressly against my T'n'Cs so I don't feel wrong about doing it.
I'm trying to connect my laptop and PSP to the internet via my Vario II (aka Hermes) from t-mobile. Several concerns crop up
1. since i'm not on the pro package I'm not allowed to do this. Ergo t-mobile must not know I'm using a laptop.
How do they detect it?
I suspect VPN on the phone might get round it...although I've had difficulty configuring it.
Would opening a VPN from the laptop after connection decieve t-mobile?
As regards browsing I assume they're just taking the browser information that the laptop's browser gives them. I suppose you can spoof that somehow?
Lastly for the psp I simply want to stream media from my desktop to my psp when I'm on the move using 'pimpstreamer' - I doubt this protocol will be too noticable.
To effect this connection though I'd need to perform the 'wifi AP' hack I've seen talked about on the wiki....
Problem is I can't seem to find Internet Connection Sharing under programs....Is this something that can be tweaked to be invisable under the registry like the GPS module in the settings section?
Thanks again for your help folks!
If you have the unlimited data plan (only $20 a month), simply turn on Internet Sharing via your phone and select "Modem Link" or whatever it's called. Plug in and voila. The PSP, not so sure.
I have a T-Mobile contract also. You shouldnt worry too much. Even if they can detect it, they dont particularly care so long as you dont go over the 1GB fair usage limit. I connect my laptop all the time and have been doing so for the past year and a half. I even went as far as buying a datacard and using that and still no complaints.
Once, I downloaded 4GB of data via my contract when my internet connection at home went down. Not even a peep. Now I only use my phone for basic usage and connect whenever I cant find a free WIFI but I still use it.
In case youre wondering I have Flext 30 with Web n Walk but I only pay 18.75 GBP per month.
Dont worry and enjoy!
There's an awesome program in the development section that actually allows you to turn your hermes into a wifi hotspot. it connects to the internet through the phone's connection, then shares that connection over wifi. It works perfectly for me, although I rarely really need to use it. Very hand; I wish I could remember what it's called. Search "Wifi Sharing" in the development thread and you should find it.

OT: WHAT!? How did you do that! I've got Flext 30 with WnW and I pay 32.50! And that is with a £5 discount!
Its against T-Mobile rules to use Internet Connection Sharing?
I got it because I signed up as a Curry's Employee and got a permanent lifetime discount of 50% off.
Yes it is againt their terms of service but as I said.. really doesnt matter.. just dont do anything that would make you jump out. Dont use more traffic than you should. Dont use it for VOIP and dont stream music/video to/from it.
I know what you are talking about because I also use it on my Hermes. It's called WMWifiRouter.
I do it all the time and I've never gotten in any trouble for it. Then again, T-Mo EDGE is usually too slow for me to want to use it on my laptop anyways.
I just use it when there is no WiFi available --- the edge is a bit slow, but still VERY usable. Never had an issue either.
I'm looking into that WMWifiRouter, looks cool as hell.
Thanks to everyone for their advice!
That program looks amazing...The website is currently down however...
Any chance someone could email a copy of the program to me at
verylastninja at yahoo dot co dot uk ? It sounds like exactly what I'm needing.
Also the cached page from google says I need ICS installed. 'Windows\IntShrui.exe' - I've checked and there's no such executable in my windows folder.
Does anyone know where I can get my hands on this exe? I'm about to try googling but am worried about getting the wrong version
Your sim works in a datacard? that's cool. How much do those things cost? Never even thought of trying it
Lastly I should say I'm running Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5.0 (OS5.1.195 (build 14955.2.3.0).
I'm very curious how you access via a datacard as well.
Ah.... Sony GC79/GC89 is built for tmobile!
Although I guess you couldn't use your phone if your sim is in the datacard. Any workarounds to use both at the same time with same service plan, he he?
T-Mo charges $49.99 for unlimited internet, wow... but only $19.99 if it's unlimited on a phone, could consider adding a new "phone" to your account with unlimited internet and just pop the sim in the datacard and go.
Suppose there's not really a lot of difference between using your phone as a modem and using a datacard mind you. So unless they're pretty cheap I'd probably be best sticking with the varioII
Anyone know about the ICS bit? I've seen people reffer to it before. (I gave my windows mobile version etc on my earlier post btw) at first I thought it would be like the GPS settings in control pannel - hidden by some registry entry by t-mobile (and I can think why they would want to).
However that file reffered too Windows\IntShrui.exe
also what's AKU3? Sorry for being such a clueless n00b on this but I've got a little bit of a steep learning curve here!
Pretty pretty please?
Ok found ICSinstall.cab on here and installed it, soft reset, and attempted to install the latest version of the WMWifiRouter program (which I finally succeeded in sourcing!).
However I get a message telling me cryptically that it 'cannot be installed' after attempting install. I wonder if this is related to ICS...
I now have the InShrUI.exe file in /windows/ *but* attempting to run it gives:
'The file 'IntShrUI' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of it's components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file.'
I reinstalled it over itself (i.e. ran the cab again) same error.
:-/
Was this the right file? I seem to remember it was dated 11th January 2008??
Thanks again for hte help folks!
Hi.
Firstly I want to put aside all warning about if it is legal or so, focus on technical issue.
I am not new if it comes to networking, that's why I want to expand my knowledge.
Just got new Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, and wanted to try tethering with my sim card.
Got message on web browser in PC and mobile as well:
"Are you using your phone as a modem or personal hotspot?
Reference SIM002
Using your phone as a modem and connecting it to other devices through WiFi or USB to get onto the internet (also called 'tethering'), is not what the plan you're on was designed for. If you would like to speak to someone about tethering options available to you, please call 333 free from your Three phone.
In the meantime if you want to get your phone back to browsing the internet you'll need to turn it off, allow it to reset itself for a few moments, and then turn it on again.
If you're looking for a Mobile Broadband connection, you'll get a better, cheaper and faster experience on one of our Mobile Broadband tariffs or devices. Just go to your nearest 3Store."
I found some threads here on our forum, but no answer how does it work.
As in my phone (Samsung Galaxy S4 Relay) which is rooted it working fine.
Some people say network operator is doing Deep Packet Inspection - maybe, but it looks like rooted device appear for them as not hotspot and not rooted as hotpost.
Am I right? Is rooted phone doing it somehow smarted (e.g. making itself proper router with his DNS point and gate ?)
