Newbie question: Pocket PC 2003 vs. WM2003

Maybe it is stupid question, but I'm really confused about Pocket PC 2003 vs. WM2003. I'm newbe for XDA
I read a lot ROM upgrade topics, refer to WM2003, but sometime refers Pocket PC 2003. sometime refer to wireless modem 2003 !
I guess WM2003 means “Windows Mobile 2003” or "Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC"
I search Microsoft website; it seems Microsoft uses “Windows Mobile 2003” instead of Pocket PC 2003.
Please correct me, if I’m wrong!
What version # is Pocket PC 2003, >4.00 ?

the correct name for the new OS for PPC is known as Windows Mobile 2003 or WM 2003 for short..some people call it Pocket PC 2003 but the actual name for it is WM 2003, there are a few ROMS for WM 2003 in this site namely 4.00.05, 4.00.10, 4.00.11 and 4.00.16 for both 4.00.10 and 4.00.16 are T-mobile ROMS... they can be downloaded from Jeff's Kitchen which is at http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/ROMkitchen
do help yourself with these ROMS...I would recommend 4.00.11 with radio version 4.21

upgrade software wince 2002 to 2003

hello all my friends...!!!
i need your help...plz !
i used xda I , but my software was upgrade with 2003 version (xda II) .
the trouble is..my xda not support for alot aplication, for example yahoo messenger, msn messenger or act..
my question is , how to upgrade 2002 version to 2003 version ?...because my software not support alot aplication.

hhhmmm not sure what you are saying
do you mean
1 you mean that you upgraded your xda with a Rom from xda2 ?
2 you mean that you upgraded your xda with a xda rom which is 2003
xda1 with pc2003 dont make it a xda2 just in case you believed so
the xda2 have different hardware altogether
many applications from 2002 dont work with 2003 in those cases you need to buy them again unless the people who makes them will let you use your serial nr for an updated version of their software

sort of a similar problem here - upgraded to WM'03 via Yorch's kitchen but messenger is not working (logon to MSN messenger service failed because the service is not compatible with this version of the program) so I downloaded the latest update from MSN
BUT
I assume that since the messenger is cooked into the ROM updating is not that simple - it did not work
I have not been able to upgrade correctly so far - any sollutions

suppose you could try some of those programs which let you connect to icq, msn, yahoo msg, and ..... and install it in ram and connect from that
it should not be messed up by a old msn in rom
otherwise you need to get down and dirty and open the rom and pick out files you dont want in it

i can use gprs surf on the pda. just can't sign in msn messager and check email on hotmail. pls can someone one teach me ? thanks

are you already signed in to messenger/hotmail on another pc whilst trying to connect on your pda?

What PDA OS are you running if its Pocket PC 2002 you'll need to install
the MSN Messager update as for Hotmail you'll need to install a third party
program call HTTPMail provider 1.0.

My dopod is 818Pro

For information:
I allready have the latest ROM for dopod818pro with OS:WM2005,
but i want make wireless sync. This process doesn't support on ActiveSync 4. I must use activesync 3.8 for wireless sync (WM2005 not compatibel with ActiveSyn3.8 )
Can somebody help how to solve my problem? i must do downgrade to Wm2003 or Any solutionfor wireless sync?
please..help because this problem is very very urgent to me...

Prophets WM 2005 to 2003
My understanding is that you can not downgrade prophet to WM 2003. I wanted to do the same. Just because WM 2005 is to slow comparing to Magician. Of cource its processors fault as well, but I wanted to see if it was going to be faster with previous WM.. I was tolled its not possible.. Different structure of the phone.

You can try that to sync over Wifi : http://www.airscanner.com/downloads/airfix/airfix.html
I never tried it but I assume it would be safer than a downgrade
If it works give us feedback!

Another work-around is register at http://live.mail2web.com/ for a free account.
Then assisgn this server also in Active Sync on your PC and PocketPC. After this you can sync via wifi with your pocketpc to mail2web.

Using Xbackup with Windows 2005 ?

Hi,
My "old" pocket-PC with Windows mobile 2003 died yesterday.
I have only one backup with "xbackup" (no backup with active synch).
Today, i bought a new "Prophet" with Windows mobile 2005 but there not have "xbackup" installed.
Do you known how to restore my backup to my new Prophet ?
Can i download "xbackup" for Windows mobile 2005 ? where ?

I had the same situation with you!
and I had already search that there are no compactable software as X-backup to be work in WM5 machines.

I have the same problem. Now trying to find really working program "xbackup Extract.exe". Any news - with pleasure!
