got a problem with x backup when i used my backup windows came up but the stard bar had messed up colours and the text was all mixed up everything else was fine but after trying 3 times it worked any ideas
You might want to look at sprite backup... It will cost you but I've been using it on my axim for 6 months now. Works like a charm
Sprite backup is recommended, but remember to install it to main memory or storage and NEVER to storage card if you are planning to place backup archives also on storage card !
This may (and probably will) cost you soft-reset (who cares ) and all data stored on SD card (unrecoverable in my case).
I've been running sprite on my mda compact for a month now (on my SD card) and haven't noticed any problems. I think it's probably a good idea to copy the contents to somewhere else (using a card reader).
And the remote agent from sprite meens i have a months worth of backups sat on my PC.

My 8125 basically erased all my files on my minisd card leaving only the ie and email inbox intact. It wiped out my spbbackup I had on there so I am totally screwed I guess ... nothing to do but rebuild the POS.
Yep, I've lost 2 Sandisk 1GB cards.
So I tried another card - the cheapest piece of crap 1GB I could find... and hello no more problems after three weeks of use!
I haven't got a Wizard of any variant but this 'wipeout' did happen to me recently on my MDA Compact (JAM).
I had a 2GB miniSD in there- was working fine for about 2 months and one I day I noticed that I couldnt run any applications stored on the card. Checked the card contents and everything had wiped (including my backup) except a few files.
Still not sure exactly what caused it- the only thing i remember doing was updating the 'PocketRSS' database (which coincendently was one of the files remaining after the wipe).
Still using the same card now and its working fine
Been using a Topram 1GB off of ebay and *knock on wood* had no issue whatsoever with it so far.
So is this a problem with Wizard or SanDisk? My SanDisk has been in the Wizard since February without any problems (knock on wood as well).
I do have a list of all the software and tweaks I follow to reinstall since I've done it a couple times for ROM upgrades. Reminds me of Windows 95...
I've got the Patriot 1G...got it at Fry's for like $60. One week and counting...

The reason why this happens is simple....
The device was accessing that card and for some reason either you pulled it out or it thinks the card was pulled out. In doing so it "blanks" out the SD card. So long as you don't format the sucker you can recover majority (if not all of your data). There's a few free ones and a few pay ones....
Free:
File Reovery
Smart Reovery - Does Pictures Only
Pay:
F-Recover - Does Pictures Only
RescuePRO
Yes, some of these recovery programs work quite well; I remember using one to recover a friends CF card contents- recovered the majority of data.
I was lucky enough to have my entire 2GB card contents on my PC (transferring from SD to miniSD), so I didn't bother investigating the problem.
I had the weirdest thing on my Trinity while in New York. I was on 3G and was surfing the net. Because I installed Memmaid 1.72 on my pda (main memory), i moved my temp file tp my Sandisk Ultra 2 Gigabyte mini sd card. I also installed Pocket Mechanics 2.23 on the main memory and did defragmentation of my mini sd card to optimize the speed. I did this several times. Mind you all is great, surfing was wonderful then all of a sudden while trying to access xda-developers.com from my pda on 3g Cingular, it froze and couldn't advance past 35 kb. I repeated it twice then gave up. I went to my mini sd and all the folders and files vanished. Even the programs I installed on the mini sd. When checking the insalled programs in the settings, they were still on my device but the actual files in the mini sd where gone so the program icons did not work. I am not sure what happened. So I formated the mini sd now and it went back to 1933 mgbs free on the card. Before formating it had 160 mbs in use but nio actual files visible when accessing the card. Does anyone know what happened to my card Is it a rom issue?
Thanks,
Gilbert
hi Gilbert
i am not sure about that, but for my experience I had the same idenctical problem after defragmented the external memory with pocket mechanic, so after loosed my data once again I dont use P.M. anymore and my problems now are solved.
Hope this helps

Yeah, I wouldn't use it either. I've found the best way to format my SD cards is to take them out of the device copy all the files to the pc using a card reader and format the card using Windows XP.
I've had a T-mobile MDA (USA) for about a month now, and I really enjoy it! But, starting a few days ago, I've been having a lot of trouble with the MiniSD flash memory cards. The first card I had was a Corsair 2GB minisd, it worked fine for about a month, then it mysteriously stopped working a few days ago. I decided to RMA the card, but while I waited for my new one to arrive, I would purchase a cheap 1GB minisd so I could at least have some of my data and programs.
The second miniSd (this one branded with the name of the store I got it from: 'Micro Center') lasted for the past two days. I noticed it was dead this morning.
Here are the symptoms in both cases:
-SD card disappears from device.
-Soft-reset / Hard-reset to find that device wants to format SD card b/c it is unreadable.
-Format SD card, only to find that it disappears from the device once more
-MDA no longer responds to SD card.
For Corsair 2GB MiniSD:
-Attempt to format SD card using desktop PC, which leaves the card with half of it's total memory available (1GB). This is also not readable on the MDA device.
I'm very distraught by this whole incident - is it possible that there is something wrong with my MDA? Or is there a possibility that the programs and data I'm storing on the MiniSD are somehow corrupting it?
There's a T-mobile store near my office, I'm thinking about heading over there on my break to ask about this... but I'm afraid I wont get anywhere with them...
If anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, etc... please let me know!
Thanks
I have issues with my SD card. Quite infrequently the SD card disapears - which is pretty annoying. In my case simply ejecting it and reseating it seems to fix the problem. Occaisonally it becomes a little more problematic.
I think it is a problem with the SD socket on the Wizard, as a friend of mine has the same problem.
I'm just trying to transfer my data from the SIM to storage card as I have just bought a touch cruise. I dont want to do this by swapping the SIMs around with the phones as I've already spent a few hours setting up the touch cruise and it will mess things up. Is it possible to back up the SIM to the storage card so I can transfer that way instead?
Cheers!
James
There are a number of commercial SIM backup solutions available. Do a search here or on Google (SIM Card Recovery), and don't forget the freeware pocketpc software sites; you're sure to come up with some. Not all of them require payment for a license, but the truth of it is, the paid-for versions are often more feature-rich than the free ones.
This wouldn't be the case for all software, but when it comes to backup software (of any kind) it seems to hold true.
I have been using my HTC Touch for almost a year. I have 2 storage cards, a 1GB and a 2GB. The other day I noticed missing software while using my Touch and found out the phone did not recognize the 2GB storage card (which has all my backup info on it). I assumed this was a card error and installed the 1GB card which also has all my backup stuff on it.
Neither card shows up in the File Explorer and the files on the cards are not accessible. When I put these cards in my computer they are totally readable.
Is this a known issue? Any clues on how to solve it?

i had the exact same issue and returned my device (elfin), in a month later got replaced (some parts) back. it was defenitly hadrware failure in my case.
I've seen at least two similar problems get resolved by formatting the storage card. Strangely though....both those devices were HTC ones. If your computer is reading the card, copy all the info onto it including your backup file and then try giving the format a shot. If it works for you.
Storage Card not recognized
I have happily been using HTC touch w/8 gb storage card, then today storage card was not showing up, did soft reset and it was there again but lost 2 programs and had to reinstall.
HTC is a mess
I was able to get my card recognized again by doing a reformat of the card. My review of the HTC Touch would be a failing grade, I'm afraid. Within the next 3 months I expect to buy out my contract and get an iPhone. The hardware plugin on my HTC is failing again (2nd time). I'm sure they'll offer me another replacement phone, which will once again require me to reinstall all my software, etc etc. I've never seen anything quite as incompetent as this phone. I saw another guy with one the other day and asked him, "How do you like your phone?" So he says it's been great. Works good. Then he adds that this is the SECOND one, since they had to replace his original. LOL I guess HTC and Windows Mobile have set a new standard for cell phones. It can still be a "great" phone, even though you need to replace it eveey year with a new one.
