Bootloader v6.22 - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

I try to upgrade my wm2002 to wm2003 and halt half way. After the hard reset, the screen still show the upgrading screen.
Please guide me to flash my xda with the SD card in the bootloader v6.22 environment.

Should work the same way:

Stefan

Hi LumpiStefan,
Sorry for my stupidity, i really been trying for the past weeks to solve the problem.
I have downloaded the XDATools into my PC and cook a Rom image of wm2003 with Asia configuration nk.nb1.
I have also imaged it into my 256M SD card using the XDATools.
I do a hardreset after placing the SD card into my XDA and got the wallaby bootloader v6.22 with GSM OK. I have to push the 3rd active button into to see the flash tools page. But it only display cd rom to sd, boot to sd, cd+boot to sd and gsm rom to sd.
What should I do next?
Thanks a nillion

Looks like the Bootloader didn´t notice the new ROM on your SD-Card.
Either you have problems copying the ROM to your SD-Card (Do you use an internal Card Reader) or they have changed something in the bootloader...
Try doing a backup of your ROM via Bootloader (ROM to SD) and reenter bootloader. If you get the option to flash your device you have a problem writing the ROM to the SD-Card. Otherwise it´s an issue with the bootloader...
Stefan

Yes, I do used a intergrated SD card reader to write the ROM to SD.
I can't backup my ROM to SD. Each time I try, it said Card Key Invaild...???
If it is the bootloader having the problem, how...????

2 steps in Upgrading ...
At first you have to downgrade your boot loader from 6.22 to 6.15 or so. Bootloader 6.22 will not allow flashing your device, unless you are equipped with the proper sd key. The way to do it is using the XDArit (I had problems with the new version in which protection of your hard drive has been implemented. You should write an SD with the wallabypatch (look at the FTP for the NB file..). a tip is when writing the sd with this patch, check the box of diagnostic). Than flash your device.. and you have to be quick and follow the instruction carefully... it will allow you to run diagnostic... which enable to flash the device. In summary for this section look for the wallabypatch instruction.
2. after you manage to write bootloader 6.15 , it will enable you to flsh you device with the new SD (written by XDArit ).
Good luck.

Dear kind Sir,
Is there any way you can show me how to downgrade the bootloader from v6.22 to 6.15?????
Can guide me through step by step.......Sorry.......

Excuse me, can you help me what to do if i lost for stupid my wallaby bootloader ... i only get parrot screen from T-MOBILE (number version, radio, etc... only) and i would back to life to my wallaby. it is dead 5 months ago
thank you too much your help.

Stuck in bootup
Guys,
I believe I have the same problem as the last post. I have several XDA's and one boots up to the "Welcome to TMobile" screen with bootloader 6.22, G324e4, R6.25.02, 4.01.16.
This is a Tmobile release with no ROM modification. I used a second XDA to start the bootloader and dump the ROM to an SD card and I then used this SD card to flash the ROM to the frozen device.
It did nothing, it is sill stuck on the boot up 'tmobile' screen. Any ideas?
Thanks Paul.

Try installing a PPC2002 ROM and if the device works normal downgrade the bootloader.
Maybe this is an issue of the bootloader 6.22
Stefan

LumpiStephan,
The two devices I have, one working one frozen, is stock from the factory, no modification of any kind, both have 6.22 bootloaders. All the self tests work fine, GSM, memory, everything is fine.
I have no idea of what it is waiting for.
Thanks,
Paul.

Thanks alot
I think this topic must be static at the top of the forum. You are great....

XDA Rom Flash crash, need help to solve, have 1 working XDA!

Hello,
can someone please help me?
Needed to unlock my XDA goes nobody could do it here ;-(
Crashed in the upgrading screen:
it wil take about 5 minutes ....
Has Wallaby Bootloader V5.15
I have already a ROM file NK.nb1 file from the ROMkitchen,
but i don't know how to get it working on my messed up XDA.
Have read a lot in this forum but really don't know much about programming ;-(
is it possible to make a copy from my working XDA (with XDAtools) and then replace the NK.nb1 file or something? and how can i get it into it?
read a lot about Bootloader but sorry don't know how to handle ;-(
If someone could help me -> THANKZ
Greetingz from Holland,
Marco
ok...
if you dont have an SD-CARD reader, get one!
then, from ROM UPDATE FORUM, find and download XDA TOOLS.
RUN xda tools.
it will ask you for source, (most likely C:\program files\RUU\ENGLISH)
and will ask for destination, since xda dont work, use SD READER
Start Copying to card
when done, insert card into xda
reboot via bootloader ( thats when you powerup with on/off button pressed and soft reset)
IT should detect that there is a system on the card, and ask if u want to install it.
press the ACTION button for yes. (thats the big silver button between the fone buttons)
thats realy IT
if you need more help... email me, or better yet add me to MSN messenger, if u have one. i'll walk you thru it.
thanks to a great warranty, i've practiced and tested alot of xda's
but now that i mastered it ( i think) i stuck to one
Thankzzzzzzz
It worked
Was a little late so i didn´t do it wright myself
Copied the file to SD
instead of doing it with XDA tools to SD
Works now fine.
Had some trouble with GSM and T/mobile card, but copied with XDA tools from working XDA to SD and now it works.
Keep this file on an SD card so now i can try to load ROM´s or upgrade to 2003 cause i can always put it back, so no risk!
Thankz Again,
Greetz Marco
I created one nb1 file using Jeff's kitchen, use XDATools write it to a SD Card, slot it into my XDA, press on/off button + soft reset key, bootloader screen (wallaby bootloader v5.17) appear, and say 'GSM OK', if press Action Key now will bring me to "Diagnostics" menu, if press Calendar key bring me to "Utilities" menu, if press Contact key bring me to "Flash Tools" menu, and if press Record Key bring will me to "USB Flash Mode", it didn't auto detect the SD card to allow me to flash my device, may I know where have I done wrong, anybody help? Thanks!
Sounds like the ROM imaged didn't make it to the SD card.
Do this test and report back on your results.
With the SD card still in the slot do a soft reset, if the image is on the card
your XDA should ask if you want to format the card.
HTH
It did ask me whether want to format the SD card.
Ok give it another shot but this time try using XDArit 1.0 to right to SD.
For more info. on XDArit visit: http://www.xda-developers.com/XDArit/
XDArit version 1.0 can be download from the software section at:
http://www.yorch.net
Just in case here is my how to use XDArit to write nk.nb1 or nk.nbf to your SD card (aka the Bootloader Method!)
1. Place XDArit and the nk.nb1 or nk.nbf file in the same folder and start XDArit.
2. Select your SD card (disk drive) from the drop down menu.
3. Select Write to SD
Notice that the Windows CE box is already checked so just click the browse button at the end of that window.
4. Select your (nk.nb1 or nk.nbf) image and then Open
Notice by default XDArit will open looking for a *.nb1 file but if you’re going to use a .nbf file you’ll have to manually change the “Files of Type” to *.nbf
Notice that nk.nbo / nk.nbo was automatically added as your boot-loader and its check box is unchecked so leave it that way and click OK. XDArit should start writing to the card.
When XDArit has finished writing the image put the SD-card into the XDA and hold the power button and soft reset. You’ll be taken to the below screen:
SD DOWNLOAD
Card Type:
CE OS & BOOT
Press action to Download
Or
Press REC to Exit
Press action to download and it will start the download/restore from the SD card.
Follow the on screen instructions once its "Completed" which will consist of a "Soft Boot/Reset".

similar situation but somewhat different.
I cooked a rom in kalex kitchen and wrote it to my sd card with my t-mobile pocket pc phone connected to activesync. I then flashed the phone from the sd card but got a checksum error at the end. I did a hard reset but only got a blank screen. Right now I can access the bootloader but that's it. I don't have a good backup rom because (not thinking) I wrote over it with the rom from kalex kitchen figuring it would become my backup (it must have somehow been corrupt). I tried writing the rom I previously had on my phone to an sd card directly through a card reader on windows 98, windows XP and windows ME all with no success. Thus, I'm dead in the water. I have no clue why I can't flash to the card reader. I went through a ton of posts here but have not found the answer yet to get me back working. Does anyone have any ideas on this? I have no clue why xdatools and xdarit are not working (especially on XP - I know they should not work directly to an sd card on windows 98 but I tried anyhow out of desperation). Please help.
got it working
used xdarit on another pc running windows xp and successfully wrote the rom to the sd card using my card reader. i then flashed my phone using the bootloader method and i'm up and working again!

can't get the xda to load from sd to upgrade to WM2003

hello,
i'm using the xdatools to put the nk file on the SD card, but when i hard reset my xda, i get into bootloader 5.22 mode, it says "gsm ok", and when i press the action button i get into a test menu.
How can i load the nk file from my sd card? please help.
thanks guys.
Did you place the ROM on the SD card by browsing to your device (...) or using the drop down and choosing your SD reader or XDA SD slot?
I had the same problem until I used the drop down... if you browse to your card, XDA tools will not create a bootable SD.
i used directy dropping down the box to SD
When you use the drop down menu on the destination there should be a drive letter next to your card eg: F: 59.60M USB sd reader or similar, choose that and it should work.
do we soft reset or hard reset
well after loading nk.nbf file
do we soft reset or hard reset to get into bootloader.
also,
the drive letter in destination folder will come if u use card reader,
but if in expansion slot than it does not give the drive letter.
Hello
I did hard reset .
I am having this same problem...
I download to the SD card through the cradle, using the phone's expansion slot. I do a SOFT RESET, to get the bootloader, and all I get is a GSM OK message. If I hit the action button, I then get into the test menu.
Hello
Means you have no nb.1 on your SD card .
as per the instructions I've been following that have been listed in detail here on this site as well as the att siemens support forums, you are supposed to copy the nk.nbf file and use that with the OS Image tool...is this incorrect?
OSImage
I just installed new ROM from new ROM Kitchen .

1) Get the file on your desktop ( download or ...I do not care)
2) Open OSInage
3) Source  Brows to your file
4) Destination  your SD card (where is it :?: -on your phone

5) Copy the file to SD card (takes 20 seconds)

8) Hard reset.
9) Injoy the rest of your day
No way getting SD-Card recognized

i have the same problem, the ROM (Made with xda-tools or XDArit) on sd-card is not recognized to download when i boot into bootloader!
I found no way to get this running.

read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3274
most likely, your wallaby bootloader is not 5.15. Anything above 5.15 won't work. I could downgrade from 5.17 and 5.22, but not from 6.22
still awaiting for some help to down grade 6.22. Nobody seems to care. THis forum has become "too" big that it is not as effective as before ...

I'm in the same situation - I have v6.22 on T-Mobile 4.01.00ENG and can't do anything, even with an SD card!
Even the BootLoader downgrade tool with XDATools doesn't work.
Any help with this would be appreciated by many other users in the same situation.
The downgrade batch file in XDA-Tools doesn't work for a lot of people (didn't work for me either). However the wallaby patch should work. Otherwise, use XDARit to downgrade the bootloader using the .nb0 file that comes with the downgrade batch in XDA-Tools.
You write the wallaby patch onto the SD card using XDARit, go into the bootloader and enter diagnostics. Then take the SD card out, write bootloader 5.15 onto the card using the bootloader option in XDARit, and place the SD card back into the device. Then from the patched diagnostics screen select Restore SD and it will recognize a bootloader update. I'd recommend saving your original bootloader from the diagnostics first, but that wouldn't work for me for some reason.
i had a 5.17 boot loader that i downgraded to 5.15 via OS image tools, i also downloaded a rom file from the Kitchen & wrote it on SD but i still can't load from SD & i only get the test phase thing

Try using XDRit instead of XDA-Tools (use the older version of XDRit instead of the newer version). I'm not sure what you mean by "test phase", but maybe your bootloader screwed over during the update? If so you may need to rectify that first, but that's definately beyond me. If you burn the image correctly onto the card it should pick up automatically as soon as you enter the bootloader with 5.15. If you don't burn it correctly then it won't be picked up.
I'm just throwing in my 2c because I've made all this stuff work with a 5.15 downgrade. There's a possibility the thing simply doesn't like your card too, so try a different 64MB SD.
well i do have a 256 mb card & as far as i can tell the downgrade worked fine, now to use the xdarit files to i need to have the SD reader or i can do it the same way i do in XDAtools which is directly into the card through Active Sync

Siemens SX56 (AT&T) locked in "upgrading" mode

I tried loading the XDA rom in my Seimens SX56. But it said it was incompatible with my specs: Rom - R.30.07 ENG, Rom Version - A.33.03, Protocal Version - 1.3.3. It asked that I do a normal reset, which i did, but my liitle boy saw me poking this pin into the side of the PDA, so when I went into the next room, he decides to do the same, but in the Hard reset hole. I now have a locked screen saying "Ugrading, It will take 5 minutes. Warning: Do not remove USB or power" Is my unit toast or do I have hope? The reason I was changing from 2003 to the XDA Rom version is because the 2003 Rom would only USB sync after a hard reset, then it would not sync again?? Any help???

Thanks for your reply, just a few questions to ask, I am new to this, just had the unit 6 days now, when you say in the bootloader mode, which software program will I be using? Do you mean in the XDA tools "fix brocken bootloader" I tried that but it just sat there. Also I did do a backup to SD card, before I tried this ROM change, but I cannot find it on my SD now? Can I get a ROM image from somewhere else. I have an external SD reader, I can also use. Thanks...

Ok here you go, its a little outdated but its what I still use:
Qman's how to use XDArit to write nk.nb1 or nk.nbf to your SD card aka the Bootloader Method!

After both the resets I still get a white background and the message"
"Ugrading...
It will take about 5 minutes.
Warning: Do not remove the USB/Serial connection or power adater from the Pocket PC"
Any ideas where I am going wrong?
***** CORRECTION *****
Ignore what I wrote above.
It seems that I am not writing to my SD / USB writer. I cannot even see the files in my windows explorer. Even though XDA "SUCCESFULLY COPIED IMAGE OF 60531 BLOCKS". The reason why I was able to boot from the SD card last time was because I had loaded my OS & Boot setting from my SX56 by mistake to the card before I tried to load it from the SD. I need a new SD writer, I will get one today and see what happens.
Thanks...

bootloader not work

Hey folks and xda-experts!
I own an XDA I which I upgraded some time ago with a Rom-Kitchen version for MDA to ROM-Version 4.00.16 eng and Radio-Version 4.21.00.
Unfortunately this software causes some trouble so that I decided to change to the original XDA software. Surprisingly the bootloder is not working at all and an upgrade via the xync-mode is also failing.
Due to the fact that the bootloader is not working I am not able to change the ROM via SD-card. Any ideas how I can make the bootloader work again or how to get a WORKING software onto my XDA?
Same Here Pls Help
Dear all,
I am in the middle of very same situation :? I tried flashing my XDA rom using the bootloader method (mine is version 6.22) but there appears no options to flash from SD card. Any expert please advise how to rejunervate my device. Thank you
first of all then there is a fix bootloader in the xdatools
second then you dont have to chooose flash from sd in the bootloader it does it automaticly when you enter the bootloader with a sd card with a valid rom on it
this guide show you get the rom on the sd card the right way

Re: Still Doesn't work
Don't know if it works with the 6.22 Bootloader....
Wallaby Bootloader 5.17 is such a pain in the ass! But, like any problem there is always a way around it. Wallaby Bootloader 5.17 as many of us know is incorporated with a key checker, thus it will automatically check and verify your SD Card for any special written key before getting full access on your PPCs ROM and Bootloader. In order to bypass the key checker, simply download the Wallaby patch http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/tools/wallaby-patch-tool.nb2 and write it to an empty SD card using the XDA-Tools program (remember to choose option 1k under header). Insert the SD card to your Pocket PC and go to you PPCs bootloader (press and hold power Button, then press Soft Reset) and wait for a diagnostics message to appear. Upon seeing the Diagnostics message, immediately press action key (core of the rocker keys under the PPCs display screen) and it will bring you to a new window that looks like this:
Boot -> SD
CE -> SD
Boot+CE -> SD
Restore SD
About
Exit
If you don't have an extra SD card, then just simply remove the SD card on your XDA without exiting from the window. Insert the SD Card again to your SD Reader and format it. Then write the file NK.Nb1 to your SD card (under header 3.5k). In any case, that you don't have NK.nb1, you could simply cook a desired ROM under zipped NK.nb1 format which is about 14-15mb.

coudl not write to SD card reader
Hi can anyone enlighten me how to write to SD card using reader, as so far using XDA rit does not work. it aborts any attempt to do it. The reader I have is multi card reader is it something to do with that?
I am having the same problem , can get into the bootloader ok. But i think it is corrupt. (wallaby 5.14)
The nb2 file i tried to write to an sd card wouldn't go at all with anything. XDarit won't write to the card at all with an nb0/nb1/nb2 i'm begining to think nb stands for not bothering.
I keep getting an error from xdarit everytime i try to write to an sd card.
Everything else writes to it ok. But nothing that gives it the right format.
I need an nb0 and an nb1 because one of them is wrong but i don't know which?? Any ideas...(won't boot, flashes intermittantly, no power light even with power connected(battery is ok)....)

Upgrading failed bootloader v5.17

I have a Wallaby (Qtek 1010) I flashed it a couple of times with USB cable and the rom.exe files you get from LumpiStefans romkitchen. The last time when I tried to flash it with windows 2K3 SE it locked during the flashing and the only thing that happens when I try to turn it on now, I get a distorted picture of the progress bar. When I boot in to the bootloader i get the v5.17 screen.
I have tried using XDArit to write a nb1 file to my SD card but i get a "Failed to open device \\.\PhysicalDrive5" error.
I also have XDA tools but I am not sure how I bypass the bootloader with that application....
please help
PS XDA tools works fine, but as mentioned, I can only write nb1 or nbf files to the SD card not nb0 which as far as I can understand is the bootloader bypasser...
Normally writing ROM is enough. You don't need to flash the bootloader if it isn't necessary. Try writing the ROM to SD-Card using XDAtools and install the ROM via Bootloader.....
Stefan
I have tried to write the ROM but nothing happens when I turn on the device. or that is the same thing happens as if there where noe SD-card in the slot.
I have tried several times now, no message about formatting the card when I stick it in, the reader recognizes the card, cause I can flash to the SD card.
Flashing XDA1
Bootloader 5.17 may be a problem.. it does not let you flash from an sd card. You will have to
1. downgrade the bootloader (tricky) and only than 2. write /flash your rom

This is long. Bear with me. I just did a cut n paste from a
txt file I recorded so I wouldn't forget how to do this again.
ROM flashing HowTO for XDA1
Compiled from personal experience after following many
different topics in the forums

Before you start:
Suggest that you back up PIM data with ActiveSync. Copy any
other files you need to an
SD card or desktop/laptop computer. Try not to do a full
backup and restore that later
as it will usually mess up the XDA. Re-installing your apps is
the best way since PPC2002
and WM2003 are different.
Hardware that you need:
1. O2 XDA smartphone (obviously!)
2. Sync cradle
3. Internal/External SD card reader
4. Spare SD card (preferably 2)
Software you need to download:
1. Get cooked ROM or any other ROM. ROMkitchens at
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org
2. Get XDAtools from
http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/XDA/XDAtools-Jeff.exe
3. Get bootloader fix tools from
http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/download/bootloaderfix.zip
4. Get Wallaby patchloader fix from
http://xda-developers.com/~itsme/download/wbt-1.5.tar.gz
5. Get XDArit v1.2 tool from
http://xda-developers.com/XDArit/XDArit.exe
6. Get XDArit v1.0 tool from
http://givemebeer.com:8080/warez/XDA/xdarit.exe
7. Get Wallaby Patch file from
http://xda-developers.com/XDArit/wallaby-patch-tool.nb2
** For XDA with Wallaby Bootloader V6.22, I only need items
1,2,4 and 5.
Method 1:
1. Install XDAtools.
2. Start XDAtools and select the OSImageTool.
3. Backup your present ROM. Select Source and Device Memory
(current ROM). For destination,
press the [...] button and select a place to store the file.
Press Copy. Keep the file
created in a safe place.
4. Next, select Source as the ROM file you downloaded or
cooked. Select Destination as
Device Memory (via Programme A). Click Copy.
5. Follow on-screen instructions.
Method 2:
1. Extract wallabypatch-sd.nb2 from wbt-1.5.tar.gz in item 4.
2. Using XDArit v1.0, choose Write to SD card and tick
Diagnostics and select the file
wallabypatch-sd.nb2 and tick the header of 1k. Click OK to
write.
3. Insert card into XDA and choose No when prompted to format
card.
4. While pressing power button, press the soft reset button.
Device will boot and display

7. Press the battery button (near the earpiece connector) and
wait 30 seconds. Press
button again.
Your XDA should now boot to the new ROM.
Notes:
1. Software tested to work on Windows 2000. Reported to work
in XP as well. Windows 98
is problematic.
2. Good place to get OS ROMs and Radio Stack ROM
http://www.yorch.net/
3. When upgrading to WM2003 using the AT&T ROM 4.01.16, you
will not be able to re-flash
the ROM again using XDAtools. You will need to use the SD card
method.
To Do:
Changing bootloaders.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that ActiveSync doesnt recognize my device... :/ That rules out Method 1, and XDArit doesn't work on my SD card which eliminates method 2...

First of all, what for SD-Card Writer are you using? Most of the internal Writer are causing problems....
Second question: What happens when you try entering bootloader (Holding Power button and doing Soft Reset) with the SD-Card inserted? Do you get the normal bootloader screen ?
Stefan
I have used two differen SD card readers, one external USB and one which actually is a digital camera cradle.
When I start in bootloader mode I just get the normal screen, I have tried making the ROM and inserted the SD into another wallaby v5.15 and that went just fine, but when I insert it into the v5.17 I just get the normal bootscreen.
Use Old version
I attched the zip file.. however I do not remeber which of the diagnostics (the bootloader fix file) is working.. I suggest try both...
Good luck
flipped?
i have a problem. i found my father's xda in our storage room. when i try to turn it on. it's just freeze on the bootloader (o2 bootscreen), and the worst thing is the screen is flipped ( you have to hold it upside down and look it through the mirror to see it correctly)
i try to flash the rom. but the activeSync doesn't recognize my device, after that i try to flash it from the sd. but nothing happen.
PLEASE HELP ME!
