Found Patch to Make MP3's Work as Ringtone

A friend of mine found this patch, and i tried it and it works
i then tried it on the New Imate 1.12 rom and it did not work...
but it works fine on my T-mobile 1.01 rom.......
Just wondered if anyone else found this patch
Marc
What patch :?:
:?: The Magician plays mp3-ringtones by design. No patch required.
That's true, but no alarm tones. You can only use wavs for that. There are many applications which provide this feature, like WolfClock. I don't know if there's a patch available for this.
could you share a link plz

Yeah mine did until i installed betaplayer, after that it doesnt show mp3's when you try to change your ringtone. Uninstalling betaplayer resulted in no application being able to play mp3's. This suggests to me a file association problem but I have no idea how to solve it. Unlike 'regular' Windoze where you can assign associations fairly easily, mobile edition doesnt seem to be able to do this. Unless someone can come up with a better idea it looks like Im in for a long trawl through the registry
I did this with Winampaq on my XDA2. There is no way to re-associate the files with media player short of a hard reset. Microsoft really dodn't do much testing on this OS at all.
I found this but havent tried it.
been using it for ages, lets you set MP3 rintones from tap and hold menu, copies them...the whole file, to your windows\rings directory and sets as default ringtone.

You should take a look at Resco File Explorer which can do exactly this.

Thanks for the tip, I will have a look at that app.
My main gripe tho is that I prefer GSplayer or Betaplayer to Media Player but when I install either one I lose the ability to use MP3's for ringtones, it seems that the phone will only allow MP3 ringtones using the WM engine (or I have missed something)
after installing any 3rd party mp3 program you need to reassociate mp3 files with windows media player to get mp3 ring tones to work correctly.

Thanks people...The app works just fine...THIS is what I had been searching...

problems Setting ringtone

PLease help !
My music files were being set as ringtone with no problems before. However. I did some ext ROM cooking according to the good folks here this morning, and everything seems fine. I love it ! But I forgot to check the ringtone thing.
I have done some messing about with music player programs. ( I installed and uninstalled Pocket PLayer and WinampAQ.) Now i am using Pocket Music 4.02. But now I can't set any music file to be my ringtone. It copies itself to the windows\Rings folder, but it can't play the file. I tried to test it in the Setting\Personal\Phone but to no avail as well, always return to the Windows Default ringtone
Could you please tell me what might cause the problem. This is my first experience with a PDA, I got it 2 days ago . I got my original ExtRom backed up incase I might need some cab from that.
And could you tell me if there's away to associate the music file with WMP10 for PPC, because I can't find that function in WMP10 options. and if I don't have a 3rd party software, when I double clicked a Mp3 file, it says basically "files needed are missing"
My specs :
XDA Exec
ROM : 1.13.82 WWE
Programs intalled :
PocketMind Pocket Music
ValksoftSpace Reclaimer
Dinarsoft Memmaid
SOTI Pocket Controller
Total Commander
Thanks very much.
have a look in the registry under
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mp3
should have a key called
Default
what does it say after that?
if I remember correctly, that is where the file associations are.
to open with WM by default, change the default (whatever) key to
default (MP3File)
and then reset
on mine, default is the only key there.
hopefully that will solve it.

Magician lost ring tones .wav .mp3

Hello all
I seem to have lost the ability to use any kind of sound file (.wav .mp3) except .wma as ring tones or notifications on my Magiciam
They will however play in the media player
It’s as if I have lost the file extension association
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

hi did u remove any program lately? a media player sort maybe? coz' if u had n u did not de-associate the wav or mp3 file type that u have associated on the program that u removed this might cause your current situation or maybe its the other way round, u might have installed some media program n u have associated the wav of mp3 file type n requested it allow the player to be the default player for those file types
Hello
Thanks for your help
I have not removed any programs but did a hard reset about a month ago but did not run the extended rom ( just picked the cabs that I wanted ,smart dialer ect from the rom) I did it like this last time I hard reset and did have all sound files , so now I am thinking that perhaps there is a cab or rom file that will do the sound function ???
Thanks again
john
actually i myself did the same thing meaning picked smart dialer and some other cabs from the extended rom and not all of them and had no problem with the sound one time i just left it blank and used it that way for almost a week without installing any of the files from the extended rom without having any sound problems so i can be pretty sure it has nothing to do with that
just try doing a hard reset again and see if that works or maybe try installing a media player it might work
Found the answer looks like I had switched it off but not obvious
Its in start \settings\sounds&notification
enable sounds for needs a tick in programs

Ring tone/MP3 problem

I have added bunch of MP3's to my storage card at the root level. 2 things are happening that are real weird.
1. They show up in the ringtone list but will not play.
2. When you go directly to file and try to launch and error pops up that reads. "the file can not be opened. either it is not signd with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore the file." The wierd thing is if I pull it into WM player it works just fine. I only get this error when I try to open the file directly which I blieve if this is corrected my ring tones will work again.
Thanks for you help

You tried putting these in the 'ring tones' folder to see if you have the same problem?
yep same problem there. I hate to do a hard reset, but i'm running out of ideas.
Sorry if it's a silly question but are you sure they're mp3 format, not aac or wma or something else?
i double checked and they are mp3.
Have you installed a 3rd party application that is registered as the default player for MP3? if yes - you need to make WMP the default player back.
how do I make it the default again?
I to am having the same problem....... My mp3 ringtones were working fine until I downloaded Pocket Music and all my mp3's were converted to pocket music. I tried to convert them back to WMP by using RESCO file explorer. I would "play with" and choose WMP and get an error saying "The System cannot find the path specified." Of course im no the most technical person, so if anyone can explain that and tell me what I need to do to fix the problem I would realy appreciate it.
Thanks
Ring Tone
I'm having a similar problem (Wizard). The ONLY ring tone that will play is the Windows Default. It won't play MP3, WAV or WMA, whether it's in the Windows root, the storage card root, the Ring Tones directory or the Rings directory.
At least the Windows Default will play otherwise I wouldn't have ANY ring tone.
Update: In another thread someone said change the associations in Pocket Player. Well, I don't have Pocket Player but I DO have BetaPlayer. I dropped the mp3 association and the WAV and WMA associations and the ringtones are working again!
I have the same problems with mp3 files as ringtone. I even delete the GSPlayer from the PPC...and still the same error. I try moving it directly to the ringtone folder...still no luck...
Can anyone help?

Do the Mp3 have to be in a particular codec or bit rate to work? Some of mine work. Some don't and I've noticed the ones that I've made myself are the ones that don't work...oh and some trekker ringtones I downloaded
Same here.
I removed all of the file associations with BetaPlayer and I am still having problems. I have a program called PocketTweak that lets me actually assign associations, but I cannot see all of my program files.
Let me know if anybody finds a resolution to this ... or if you know how to see all of the files so I can start associating WMPlayer to them. I have a feeling if I can figure that out, the ringers will start working again. But I could be wrong ...
Kangle
I found a fix for me.
I also have GSFinder. I used that to look at my file extensions and noticed that the file extension mp3 was gone, even though it appeared in my PocketTweak program. I added the extension mp3 and chose Windows Media file as the program to open it.
Then I went back into phone settings and presto. MP3 ringtones are now playing again.
Hope this helps some of you. I think installing PocketTweak somehow messed it up b/c it was working fine before then, even after installing BetaPlayer.
However, I did change some associations with BetaPlayer last night b/c I had a problem saving internet radio stations links to my PDA b/c BetaPlayer would automatically launch/open the stream as opposed to giving me the option to save. I wanted to save them b/c I use GSPlayer to listen to audio. So there is also a possibilty that I changed something last night that caused it not to work today. Oh well ... again, I hope this helps some of you.

wing ringtone problem

randomly my ringtones will stop working. i dont have the volume on mute. i have to either go into the sounds menu and select a different ringtone and then go back to the one i was using or do a soft reset. its kind of annoying to do so. i just got my wing yesterday and ive had this happen to me twice now. has anyone experience this problem? also i was wondering if there is a way to stop the SMS/MMS ringtone from playing the whole ringtone even if i dismiss the message? i know i can just make the ringtone shorter but if there is a way to stop the ringtone, id much rather do that. thanks in advance.
I have this same problem with my t-mobile wing when I use an mp3 for sms tones, after a few messages it goes silent, I tried placing mp3 in windows folder but eventually it still goes silent, hopefully someone has a fix
yes exactly. only when I use a mp3 is when this problem occurs. hopefully there is a tweak or something to fix this
anyone have a solution?
i have the same problem and i've been having to do soft resets...pain in the butt
has anyone came up with an answer to this problem? i lived with it when i first got my wing, but now it has caused me to miss a few important text messages and what not from my girlfriend and other people.
I placed my .mp3 file in the windows folder and hit refresh then closed file explorer and assigned that .mp3 to my messages. It worked for a while but eventually it still goes silent so this is just a longer temporary fix. I'm still looking for a permanent fix

mine is saved to the phone. its the only way the ringtone will show up in the ringtones list for me to choose it.
It Think That It Might Be A Reg Tweak For This Ill Do Some Looking Around After I Get Outta Work
Same here...
I have the same problem as well. I've searched for registry fixes but I've found none. I've converted all of my sms rings from .mp3 to .wav and i haven't had a problem since. But .wav takes up a lot more space. Is this a problem with any other roms or just the t-mobile stock rom.
oh i didnt think about changing them to wav. ill try that.
what did you use to convert to .wav?

Cheetah Audio Converter for your pc. Move them to your desktop with ActiveSync, convert them, then copy them back.
