Hello,
I was wondering if anyone here knows a good gprs provider which is at a good price but quite fast and stable?
Thanks for your time
hhmmm you cant use a gprs providers without using the same provider for normal gsm
hhmmm you cant use a gprs providers without using the same provider for normal gsm
damn that sucks as I've just rung up a £200 bill by using o2's gprs service
well cant you just ditch o2 then ?
I could but the only other network I like is 3 and from reports on this forum the phone doesn't fully fuction under them
well last i heard 3's newer sims would not even work in non 3 phones
Yeah the USIM cards won't work in non 3 phones but if you find the sim cards for some the nokia phones that 3 have you can use that one.

Hi all,
Congrats for the nice forum. I got my MDA compact sim free recently which I used with my Vodafone UK sim card and it worked fine. However I have signed a new contract on 3G UK in Phones4you where I was convinced by the dealer that the sim card can be used to another sim free phone apart from the 3G Nokia 6680 I have taken. It seems that this was not true because when I insert the sim card in the MDA it says "Ivalid Sim Card" and I can't use it now. Do you know any way I could manage my problem? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you very much.
I'm interested in this too. I have considered switching to the 3 network but that fact that you have to use their phones has thus far put me off.

Yes, they have good price plans, but I am really disappointed cause I can't use my MDA. Their sim cards seem to be locked and unfortunately I have no idea whether there is any way to make it suitable to non-3G phones.
The dealer lied.
3 will not allow non 3G phones because it involve cost to them. Three roam to O2's GSM (2G and 2.5G) when you are out of range of the 3 network and that costs them money. If you have a 2.5G phone like the Magician then it will be permanently roamed to O2 and they would make no money from you becasue they would be billed by O2 for your calls.
Don't forget you get a "cooling off" period on these contracts. Might be worth using it.
MDA Compact is not a UMTS phone! I think it couldn't operate in 3G networks! Correct me if I'm wrong.

Are you sure?! This is very strange! Are you talking about Orange in Israel?!
Thank you all for the replys, it seems that unfortunately in UK it would be impossible to use 3G card on the MDA. As the 6680 has nothing in common with the MDA I hope my bills to compensate the inconvenience
3G
Using a non umts phone like the magician to connect to a umts network seems to me a very strange and bad idea.
Wait until next year (not so long) and buy the HTC Hermes or the XDA version : it's a S110 with the features of a QTEK 9100 and umts and wifi and ....

Yeah, an Israeli Orange sim card works OK on my Magician.
of course I couldn't use any 3G services...
3 is a UMTS-only network. All 3G phones in the UK are dual-mode GSM/UMTS phones.
Because the 3 network does not cover enough of the UK it has an arrangement with O2 so that 3 phones will 'roam' to O2 when out of 3 coverage. When they do this they use O2's GSM network. So, a GSM phone with a 3 USim would be permanently roamed to O2 as I said earlier.
An Orange USim will work in an Orange GSM phone. Orange (in the UK) have a GSM Network and are rolling out a UMTS network. When an Orange phone is out of reach of the Orange UMTS network, it simply uses the Orange GSM network instead. Now if you put a usim into an Orange GSM phone, it simply accesses the Orange GSM network and can't see the UMTS one. Oh and it will be able to use the 2.5G GPRS system as well.
A bit wordy but I think it's clear.
also remember folks thats "3" use a 5volt sim card unlike every other uk network that still use the old 3volt cards.
Hi, I have a unlocked Wizard & my T-Mobile contract has just expired, I was just wondering if a 3G sim (3) would work in it as there are some cheap deals on that network? I wouldn't use it for video calls so thats not a problem.
im 99% sure they DONT! however maybe someone there can prove me wrong
I'm using a Cingular 3G SIM in my 8125 with no problems at all.

a cingular 3G sim and a "3" UK usim are not the same, one runs at 3 volts (sim) and the other at 5 Volts (usim)
Aha! More than I knew! I knew it! Thanks for correcting me..

what our american brothers call a "3g" sim and what the network provider called "3" use are slightly different things.... a american 3g sim is simply a normal 128k provisioned with extra services I.e. data and video calling (this is the same way all the gsm uk networks work too) however with "3" being the first 3g only network in the world they choosed to use the next generation of sim card called a usim which don't work in lots of non 3g phones including the wizard. try googling the word "usim" to see wot I mean
Under 3's terms and conditions you are not allowed to use their sim in a 2.5g phone. If you do use one and it works, they will eventually block it and send you a new sim with a gentle reminder that you are in breach of Ts and Cs.
Cheers Chaps, 3 it isn't then!
My O2 UK 3G UMTS sim works perfectly in my Wizard. You just can`t really get the benefits from it (Faster GPRS/EDGE etc....).
me again
i was reading at modaco ( http://www.modaco.com/Vario-II-OUT-NOW-Telesales-onlyand33-t244456.html ) that to get HSDPA you need to have WnW PRO :S i got confused now.
is it correct?
i hvent been told that.
HSDPA is a software upgrade to the existing 3G network from t-mobile. It does not require activation by customer services, it does not cost any extra to use and is not available only to web and walk pro users.
From what I read on the t-mobile site, there are no differences between the 2 types of the service...
web'n'walk is an extra to your Flext, U-Fix, Relax or payg tarrifs.
Web'n'walk PRO is the same service, but comes with a HSDPA laptop card and could be called a data only contract. The sim card will let you make calls etc, but has no calltime or sms allowances. I beleive its market is business users on the move.
I myself have a HTC TYTN using my flext 25 + web'n'walk sim card. I have tried it in my local 3G area and HSDPA speeds were available. I did not have to activate anything and it works a treat.
T-Mobile confirmed to me earlier that HSDPA is available to anyone who has a compatible handset, users of the Laptop card and upcoming Vario II will be able to use it fully. You can also receive HSDPA without web'n'walk, it is afterall only a software upgrade to 3G, so if you can receive the 3G UMTS signal you can use HSDPA.
are you sure about that thats not what i've heard and its not whast going around on alot of the forums...
I got myself a t-mobile payg sim the other day and they told me in the store that I wouldn't get the hsdpa. I do! Good deal I think for £1 per day.

Everything I said was told to me by a t-mobile customer service agent last night when I tried to activate HSDPA
My standard web'n'walk service seems to get HSDPA without any problems.
The best action would be to call t-mobile and find out if your account will have it or not.

Dear All
Is it possible to use the XDAII on the Three network within the UK (ie will a Three sim card work in an XDAII and allow you to access the Three services)?
Many thanks
Anon
if you mean the company called 3
then no their brand is because they use 3g / umts tech
where xdaII is 2g only
also the company 3 even if their sims support 2g on their 3g phones
when no 3g service is present block other 2g phones from using them
Thank you for answering so quickly Rudegar.
I did mean the Three (3) Network in the UK and therefore appears I will not be able to use a 3g SIM.
Never mind - now need to weigh up if the network offer for 3 is worth getting while loosing my XDAII or keep XDAII and keep looking for a new offer from one of the other networks.
Anon
Unlock XDA II to ANY Network!!!!!!!
Just put this file on your root folder of your XDA II and run it and when you put another sim in from any other network the unlock number will be 8 zeros. Easy as....
Support for any network any country!!!... Even three (3)
Happiness
Thank you - my XDAII is already unlocked (may be with your attachment or another off this site a few years ago). However, I was specifically interested in whether the phone would work on Three 3g with all their functionality (not 2g, which I believe it would be forced to as Three's back up - currently o2 but moving to Orange).
Many thanks

Hello everyone
Did enyone now did that phone work on three network in england...?
Currently i'm on contract with three network & want to buy hd2 but im not sure is 100% work in three network.
Went to few mob seconhand but all hd2 was locked to t-mobile or vodafone so cant't testet with my sim card.
will appreciate if anyone can help
ps. sorry 4 my poor english
I'm with 3 and everything has been perfect up until recently when my phone stopped connecting to the internet when I'm at home/in the area around home. I have a strong signal but just can't connect to the internet. The strange thing is that:
- I have no problems connecting to the internet when I move to a different area/suburb
- Can connect to the internet when I stick my girlfriend's 3UK SIM card in the HD2
- Can connect to the internet with my SIM card in another phone.
The problem just seems to be with my SIM in the area that I live so I tried replacing my SIM card to see if that would fix the problem. Unfortunately it didn't so I'm not sure whether the problem is with 3 or the phone.
Sorry about the long-winded story. The point of it all is that I've encountered this funny problem, don't know what is causing it and 3 won't provide any support because I'm not using one of their phones.
I have an hd2locked on o2, and when I put another sim in it fails to register the network.
a friend came round last week and tried his 3 sim in my phone and it didn't even recognize there was a sim there at all, so I would be very wary of buying without trying if I were you.
I have been using the operator 3 for more than two years (different phone models) and I have never had any issue.
Currently, I use 3 on my HTC HD2 (Generic HTC - Sim Free) and works perfect.
The internet connection, email, mms, sms, everything works perfect.
im currently replying with a 3 sim in my htc branded hd2..
even though im on vfuk the signal is so poor that I got a 3 sim to test on their old payg 5quid unlimited net.
I get full hdpda signal and its much quicker than the same with vf when I can find a decent hspda signal with them.
seriously contemplating going to them full time when my contact ends with vfuk. as it stands I just use this at home for data and the vf for voice.
im on 3 network with a retail unlocked hd2 and can report no probs. hspda nice speed where i am, internet tethering fine to. cheers
I've got my hd2 from virgin it came unlocked but 3g signal is very weak indoors so I still use my old three card and it works perfect.
hi
thx 4 help
Three web show excellent broadband cover so hd2 should be work well.
The point of it all is that my contract is running out in 1march and three is offering me 750min 150txt 50videocall and internet =12.50£ 12month contract with some sony T715(warth90-130£ ebay) or 25£ 12month htc hero so If i will sell one of thoes phones on ebay will get money back and 12month contract will cost me around 30£ + htc hd2 around 400£= around430-450£
or
other option 1year contract with vodafone 40£/mount+84£ handsed cost =564£ 300min unlimited txt unlimited internet but fair usage policy of 500MB...?
Summarise Three=450£ vs vodafone=564£
any advice...?
