Has anyone else noticed that when you turn on the camera function of the Jam, the screen goes a notch brighter? Even with the default brightness set to maximum, there is a noticable difference. This can also be seen when the PDA is turned on from the power button -- for a split second. Has anyone figured out a way to set the default screen setting to use this level of brightness?
I've noticed it, and i posted a thread a while back but didn't get an answer
I've looked throught the registry but haven't been able to get it brighter, any of you master tweakers found anything?
this would be a GREAT feature, because -- just for that split second -- the words on the today screen look White and Clear! I've even played with it in the direct sunlight, and I can actually see what the screen says easily. Of course, I only get that breif view of it...
i have been looking everywhere to see if there is anyway to brighten the screen more, and nothing so far. I wonder if any of the brilliant developers on this site would take a look at the question, please

While playing with my HERMES I noticed the following:
First:
The screen is not as bright as on the WIZARD!
Second:
When turning on the camera you shortly can see that the backlight gets increased while opening the CAMERA application. Now, that tells me that there could be a way to increase the background backlight permanently over its default maximum.
Has anyone an idea? I tried already to raise the registry values for backlight without success.
VJ's
There is a program by VJ called super bright I believe it what you are looking for, if so post a little love for VJ's hard work here is the link
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjlumosiii/vjlumosiii.exe
Well, it makes the screen nice and bright - that's for sure!
The drawback's on this neat little application: You can't shut it down other than restarting the PDA, you can't adjust brightness and you can't use the CAMERA as long as the application runs.
I just wonder if the brightness could be increased via Registry Hack - that would be great!
how very odd! i've noticed that comparing my Vario I (Wizard) with my Vario II (Hermes) the Hermes has a considerably better and brighter screen! the colours are a lot more 'fuller'!
i havent tried the 'VJ' app, but will do when i get home,
why would you want it so bright anyway?!
Well, the brightness helps while watching a movie on the go!
Also if you do some work on the road or navigation in the car it comes in handy. I just wish the application mentioned above would not have so many side effects ...

I just 'click or ok' Super Bright the same way to turn it on or off (no pda restarts needed).
Run the program again to shut it off. I mapped it to one of the hardware buttons.
Thank you vijay555!
I want to ask you something. On direct sunlight the display light is not enough, when I manually set it to 100% the display is much more bright and everything is ok, but when is AUTO, it wont go to maximum never! I'm asking is there any tweak for this, or anyone who knows how, to be kind to make something about this.
Hey - there's a couple of programs that can manage the light sensor instead of the default built in one.
First i used lumos however i found it wasn't that customisable. Yesterday i found a program called AutoLight which works by adjusting a graph to how you want the backlight to change according to the ambient light. Works really well so far!
Just search for them on here and they'll come up.
I installed a battery booster app from the market, and it had an option to dim the screen, it was on 11%, well i tried to adjust it, and i guess i went way to far and it turned my screen black, i cant see nothing.
im on the Darkstone build.
is there a way to either delete that app or what, i know the phone works as i feel the vibration from me sliding it to unlock from home screen.

The LCD still light up but very dim, so try going into a dark room and wake up the phone. Then you will be able to see the contain on your phone.

Like i said it is BLANK. seriously blank. its not dim or nothing.
Is there a way to restore the brightness on here, because i cant see anything im doin on it.
what you can try to do is, grab a friends phone and try to immitate the same touches on both devices, the best way to do it is by unlocking it, pressing the menu key, click on the corner to make sure u go to the settings, scroll all the way up and find your way to "display" tipically the 4th (or 5th in my case because i have cyanogen mod) and brightness (should be the one at the top) and just try to drag ur finger from left to right to increse it (as it should over pass any 3rd party app) and see if it works, but..... keep in mind these things dependeding on what phone you use to guide you....
screen size
DPI scale
sense??? or not! as settings are different
and other things, also..... when you unlock it make sure its on the home screen
i also believe if you go outside you can see the screen a little bit under the sun, but not completely sure
hope this helps, oh and by the way, if you have a build based on sense go to a sprint store and use an EVO lol, or if u have stock froyo grab a nexus one from a friend and use that (but like i said before, keep in mund the screen size)
yea thats what i was tryin to do. no luck.
I had this problem twice and rejoice, I have a solution!
Simply download "DroidExplorer" for windows.
Boot your phone in android.
Once booted (when your screen turns black), plug in USB, and launch DroidExplorer.
In DroidExplorer, look for the "Screencast" icon (little android icon).
Run that, you will see your screen. Reset brightness to a normal level.
You are saved

When this happens, try shining a bright light on the screen, make sure the device is woken up (i.e. press a hard button) and view your screen from different angles. Even if the backlight is completely off, the LCD display is still active and the graphics elements just about visible.
With this method, you should be able to make enough of your screen to navigate to the brightness settings.
Screencast in Droid Explorer (for your PC) is also a good last measure.
Most apps that control brightness has this problem on HD2, so be careful about going too low in all of them. In Tasker, for example, 30 is the lowest setting that works.
Even the standard screen dimming that occurs a few seconds before screen timeout is not calibrated correctly. In all Android builds/kernels I have tried, the backlight is turned off when it should be just dimmed. Cyanogen(mod) has a setting for the dim level, but the maximum you can use is 26, which still turns off the backlight.
Curiously, sometimes (very seldom) after waking my phone up from standby, the backlight is in a much dimmer state than usual. When sliding the standard brightness from min to max, the actual brightness range varies from barely visible (but still on) to the regular dimmest level. So the device *can* support incredibly dim levels, but I've have found no way of getting into this state predictably. It has happened only 3-4 times over the past 2 months. A reboot fixes it, but I've also gotten out of this state after a locking/unlocking cycle.
So there seems to be several layers to the backlight brightness:
- the actual hardware (which supports much lower brightnesses than we're usually allowed access to)
- the Android API (which probably is the layer turning backlight off below 30, and which occasionally is fooled into using a much dimmer range than usual)
- whatever app providing the GUI (usually showing a range of 0-100% or 0-255).
Does anyone know if there's a reason for the threshold? Is it somehow risky for the LCD display hardware to be very dim?
I really love this new Always On Display (AOD) feature, it's really classy and elegant.
But, one thing I noticed is that the brightness level seems to be automatically adjusted, and when its bright it surely drains the battery.
Is there anyway to set this brightness manually? I tried changing the display brightness in manual mode, but it does not seem to use that settings.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I dont think there is an option, if there is i am also interested.
I personally thought the Display sometimes was too bright.
i..e In a Dark Room and the Light was more ambient than it really needed to be.
Then the misses would ask me to turn off the night light lol!
Always On
Dear All, I just bought my S7 Edge and picked it up yesterday. I'm quite impressed with this display!
I thought the same thing you guys tought... The Always On Display is very bright!
But here is some info that I searched over the internet. Don't know about it's reliability, but seems legit.
New Always On Display
An interesting function that first appeared on the Galaxy Note 4 Edge in 2014 was always keeping a portion of the OLED screen on when the phone is off (in standby), so certain content can be displayed all day and all night long, but with a very small power drain that has very little effect on the battery running time. This is possible on an OLED display with a mostly black background because every sub-pixel is independently powered, so black pixels and sub-pixels don’t use any power.
The new Always On Display mode shows various personalized clock, calendar, status messages, notifications, and images on the main screen when the phone is on standby. It measures the ambient light level and has both day and night modes, plus it’s smart enough to stay off when the phone display is face down, or it senses a dark confined space such as a pocket or handbag. The OLED display produces an illuminated main screen image 24 hours a day so you can always discreetly check it with just a glance. As a result, the OLED Always On Display will reduce the need for a smartwatch, which seems likely to become an endangered species. We’ll cover this in more detail below.
Here is where I picked it up. Cheers Guys!
(Received a message with the information that I can't post url's.. ) sorry...
Type this in google, "always on display s7 edge brightnes" then it is the 3rd link in the url contains displaymate
same, it quite bright, and with my testing if you can keep ut at its lowest brightness, it consumes 0.3%/hr. that would be absolutely great.
there is an app always on display plus which helps in that
if you mark on auto brightness , it will be done
I unmarked Auto Brightness and seems not brights
Hello guys did anyone find a solution to this?

I've noticed that it is automatically adjusting by the amount of light in the room (and it's quite sensitive, always brighter than needed). It would be great if there was an option to manually set the brightness, but only small bunch of people are actually interested in this.

This app does not changing the actual brightens, seams to be there is no solution yet.
I tried changing the screen brightness to minimum and disabling auto brightness, but the AoD brightness seems to be controlled independently.
Trying out an app called Always On AMOLED - it has a night mode. Gonna test power consumption of both
Mine used to auto adjust but not anymore. I think the last software update changed this.
GS7
I'd love to have an adjustment setting. I'm having the opposite problem as most. Mine isn't bright enough! Oh well. Hope they change that!
AOD brightness fix for Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. May fix others
This may not help everyone as I am giving you the solution for the S9 and S9 Plus, but look in your settings to see if you have the same thing.
Under 'Lock Screen and Security' select AOD and select 'Show Always'. Once you've selected the Content to Show, disable Auto Brightness then move the slider as far right as possible and underneath that select Show Always.
Job done. Next time you see your AOD it'll be full brightness. It is still not bright enough but better than before. If you then go into 'Clock Style' and change the colour after type and choose a fairly stand out colour, this will make your clock stand out even more.
I hope I've helped at least a few people.

i feel like its to bright... i want to dim it. dont need it to be that clear.... i wil continue my search....
Threw search and having both s7 and s9+ I noticed the 9+ has the ability to adjust the brightness of the AOD very easily in settings or double tap the screen and u see the settings. Works perfect on the 9+ as for the s7 doesnt have the same settings they both say the latest version available is downloaded but it's an s7.. so I just think that setting dont exist on the s7. The brightness is controlled on it's own and u really have no control manually on the brightness.. I think it's a new thing for new galaxies but the 7 isnt gonna do it.. eh.. so I suggest a contrast color which makes it "brighter" to the eye. And basic and big.. it's for quick glances anyways... sucks tho..
Anyone else noticed the button Backlight brightness being very low?
It's like a dark blue light and I almost can't see it.
Also the Touchscreen doesn't react sometimes while scrolling. For example while seeking trough files in a file manager it stops sometime instead of scrolling further while swiping.
Yes, I've seen both.

But someone on this thread have uploaded a picture where it's much brighter
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/help/button-light-t3626993
The backlight on the buttons is very dim, yea. I think that pic was just in good lighting to show the lights well, I don't think they are any brighter than what we have. I wish they were brighter as well.

I can't see any buttonlight at cloudy daylight. This makes it pretty useless. If there were visible dots at daylight, the light would be usefull for night use but as I said you can't notice any dots at daylight
The big problem is the RGB led luminosity. It's like the button backlight, but it is useless if i can't see it...
The odd thing, or I guess another observation in general...is that I have rarely had "misses" with the back or recent buttons. It seems like they made the touch area much much bigger than just around that dot. So, although this is annoying, the actual effect it's having is minimal to me.
Yes, I was tempted to find a transparency to stick on the top just for effect I do sometimes hit the "Reply" icon in Outlook messaging when I mean to hit the back button below it.
It would be nicer if the blue light was a lot brighter. Maybe a firmware update?
Alan
What I don't get is why OnePlus just didn't give an option to always keep the capacitive buttons lit permanently, or at least increase their timeout period. With all the other ways you can customize Oxygen OS, this seems like an odd miss. Samsungs have had that option forever.

As mentioned in another thread about this, there is an app called Keyboard Backlight Controller. I have it so they stay on when the screen is on. You have to disable and enable after each boot but it's not awful. It's better than nothing. In sunlight though, you can't see it at all.
