VPA Compact is out in the uk on Vodafone now! It's been a long wait. Now i can try the new shape out and retire my jam
but isn't the jam and the vpa compact the same model but from different carriers/distributors
As a vodafone user I'd love to use the vodafone firmware.....is it possible for anyone to extract it?

Yeah they are.But my jams started playing up and i thought i was going to have to splash out alot of money again for a new one. Then vodafone called me and told me i could upgrade my phone.A previous woman had told me i could have the qtek 9090.I'm not too keen on the size though, then another guy told me the vpa was out now and it cost me nothing! It's the same as the jam although the housing has go more thought into the layout and it just looks a bit better overall.A kind of facelift!

Cheers.I'll give it a go tomorrow and see if i can post it on here if anyones interested
Got the vpa today. All i can say is the build quality over the jam/mda/mini units is soo much better. It's got a much more solid feel and no bits of plastic hanging off like my jam!Happy
So, Now you´ve got your device...
But where is the dump/backup of your ROM?
Any news about this?
Stefan
Got to say Jay you're lucky that Vodafone UK phone you with upgrades. I have to keep hounding them and when I do get through its to some idiot who is usually less competant than the last (hard to believe).
May do the same as you,

It's definately worth it,even though you have to speak to loads of boneheads at vodafone that don't even know what it is and keep telling you they don't have that phone and they've never heard of it.I called up the day i could upgrade and luckily got to speak to someone with a bit of knowledge.Ordered it thursday afternoon and arrived friday morning!Defintely worth it,much better build than the magician!

Have you been able to successfully surf the internet?
I have got an I-mate on VF UK contract and have run the automatic VF UK contract config setup and can successfully connect using the VF WAP Connection and VF MMS connection, but if I try the VF Internet GPRS connection, I get every time the error message 'The answering modem has disconnected'. Sad
Do you have the same experience or does it work for you?
I can only load wap pages using the WAP connection and can send mms, but can't view any html sites.
Cheers,
Antoine
My web works fine.It was all set up out the box.Everything seems to work mms web etc.The settins are different to what i had on my jam when i had to use the cab files from imate. This time in connections there is a contract internet setting already setup and should work from the off.Have you not got this?
Hmm... I am really miffed to be honest. Out of the box (i-mate) I had three configs:
Connections: Vodafone MMS and Vodafone WAP:
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap
Password: wap
WAP proxy: 212.183.137.12:9201
(I have tried entering the same proxy for html, but that didn't solve the problem either)
Connection: Vodafone Internet:
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
APN: internet
Username: web
Password: web
I can connect using the WAP and MMS one, but any html page times out. I can read specific wap sites though, like for example the wap edition of BBC mobile.
The Vodafone Internet connection is the one that doesn't work. But maybe I have the incorrect settings? What settings do you have?
I am running ROM: 1.12.00 WWE, Radio: 1.12.10, Protocol: 1337.42, ExtROM: 1.12.131 WWE.
Cheers
They are the settings i had on my jam too.3 different connections. But on the compacy there is only one called contract connection and it doesn't let you edit it like the others so i can't see the details.Have you downloaded the cab off the i mate website with uk contract vodafone settings in it?
They were already installed. But reapplied them anyway and still no luck. It is consistent... that's the only positive.
Is the voice quality any better than the jam

Toine,
You have everything right apart from the email/internet GPRS settings.
I use two connections (always have) on my QTEK S100 for Vodafone UK. You need 1 to access MMS and another to send/receive email and browse the internet.
In SETTINGS/CONNECTIONS/CONNECTIONS
1. You should have "Vodafone Internet:" connection defined as is above
2. Under "My Work network" you should "Add a new modem connection" with the settings you have in "Vodafone MMS and Vodafone WAP:" except there is no username/password (you have wap defined).
In MESSAGING/TOOLS/MMS SETTINGS
1. Set "Connect via" to "My work network".
2. Make sure you have your server defined with the settings you have in the next tab. This should be (in case you don't have it):
Server name: Vf UK MMS (for example)
Gateway: 212.183.137.12
port number: 9201
Server address: http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms
This set-up should now tell the imate to connect to email and the internet with the "APN: internet" connection and connect for MMS to "Vf UK MMS"
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any problems,
Martyn
jaythemagician: can you give us yr VPA ROM, Radio and Protocol version (as in SETTINGS|Device Information) ?

I initially upgraded my XDA to 4.00.05 ENG WM2003 using Jeff’s rom kitchen. I got the GPRS settings off the web and entered them it all worked with out any problems.
Because of a few bugs with that image (mainly the alarms never went off) I decided to upgrade to 4.00.11 ENG WM2003 again from Jeff’s rom kitchen. However no matter what I try I can’t get GPRS to work. It always displays this error message:
Dialed: mobile.o2.co.uk
The answering modem disconnected. Check your connection settings and change them if needed.
Thought this must be a bug with that rom but when I tried to use the 4.00.05 ENG WM2003 I get the same effect. I wonder if I am using different GPRS settings but I have tried the ones from other web sites. Can some one post / point me in the direction of, some accurate settings they know to work on an O2 UK XDA on contract, including details such as compression settings (no seems to mention them in the settings I have seen).
I also tried reinstalling the latest O2 radio stack, to no avail.
Thanks for your help.
I have posted numerous posts asking for help on this exact problem, I get this all the time and would really appreciate the full settings and instructions for gprs on O2 payg using xda.
Another Possibility
I have had one other idea. After getting EzWap 2.5 I asked O2 to enable MMS on my phone. I know that uses WAP GPRS and others have had problems with having MMS enabled. I wonder if hat has caused problems for me. I will give o2 a call.
ok using latest o2 radio stack and 40011 2003 rom from the kitchen.....
new connection....
name: <insert something interesting here>
modem: cellular (gprs)
access point: mobile.o2.co.uk
username: mobileweb
password: password
domain: <leave blank>
click advanced..... ignore everything, click servers, change to use specific and add these:
dns: 193.113.200.200
alt dns: 193.113.200.201
works on o2 contract in uk. not sure about anything else....

Scott's Settings
Scott thanks for the settings. They were the settings I had been trying to use.
Still not contacted o2 yet. I need the phone number off one of the bills and I dont have any to hand here so I will probably just wait for the next bill. I am quite sure its the MMS messenging on my account that is causing problems. It was at about the time MMS was activated on my account that I lost GPRS, this surley can't be a coinsidence.

has anyone got mms working on xda II with Orange
if so let me know cos currently I think I might be wasting my time

I am still strugling with this.
Has anyone cracked it yet?
I use EzWap 2.5 with Orange France configuration with no problems.

Limited success here with my XDA2. I've had it able to send with one configuration, and recieve with another, but I can't get both to work together. Would be nice if some M1000 users would come to the rescue with some detailed settings for thier MMS Network Settings & MMS App settings. I've tried calling Orange, and although they guys was helpful - he didnt have any "M1000" settings to share...
Also, is there a "Your Page" Orange homepage for the XDA2 that fits the screen? I'm using the one designed for smartphones at the moment which is alright, but kinda sucks since it doesnt take advantage of the screen area of the XDA2.
M1000 users, we need you to stop lurking and get replying! Share your settings please!
I'm having the same problems!
Exactly the same, talked to a nice lady at Orange, yet no help to me.
Hope someone might post the M1000 ext. rom file, as I heard all the settings are in there (and we may extract the cab files). Like sleepnow pointed out, I hope some M1000 users may come to the rescue.

I have heard that the M1000 doesn’t support MMS either. Something to do with the way the XDA type devices handle MMS is not compatible with Orange MMS network.
Hopefully this is just a rumour

No. of attempts before aborting 1
This seems to be working for me, best of luck!
Crikey. I didn't realise so many people were trying to find out what the settings were... Mind you it took me a couple of days to figure it out! Glad to be of assitance
mine still doesnt work.
Can some one post their GPRS settings
(PAP or CHAP, Class 8 or 10)
cheers
ashby
The settings posted above *are* all the settings you need. I assume you have GPRS access enabled on your phone account, otherwise it will not connect.... Getting GPRS connection is the easy bit - getting MMS to work was the tricker part....
One of the Orange support people told me to change the ap/chap and class settings.= and I cannot remember what the defaults were
Can someone post me what their settings are
Cheers

I finally got the darn thing working on Orange MMS here in Denmark!!! However, setting it up was tricky, and a pain in da butt, as O denmark didn't provide any help and I had to figure all this out myself, with the help of all of you and various settings/setup guides and Orange IP/setup values given to me.

Leave the field Proxy Server blank
Go into advanced settings
Fill in the following two Server fields so it all reads:

This setting works for Orange MMS here in denmark. I am sure they are already set for the M1000, but this may or may not be the case, as I spoke to Orange support... and they tried to convince me the M1000/XDAII/ QTEK 2020 doesn't work with mms yet, but it will work soon in the future. Not very helpfull. So I had to come here...
And, I must say, FORUM.XDA-DEVELOPERS.COM rules! I am very happy to have become a part of this enourmously helpfull forum. I actually got my Qtek 2020 approx. 14 days ago, after reading a lot of cool stuff in here. Later I realised the M1000 may have been a better buy, as I would have gotten an extra battery, and able to flash the rom to the new(er) dangaard one, and save a lot of money (almost € 200). However, I am still a happy camper, and find the xdaii a joy to use, with various tweeks and adjustments. Even installed some other cab files, not in the rom yet though, as I prefer using dealer distributed updates, so as not to loose my warrenty (but knowing me, I may do it eventually).
Anyway,
thanks for all the help so far and for this great forum. It is truly enourmous
I also hope others may benefit from the danish Orange settings... I will post them on a couple of danish forums, as no one has helped me there either, yet I came here first

does anyone know what ports or protocol this requires?

Slightly OT - Orange World
Chaps - sorry for being slightly off topic.
Im an O2 user about to go elsewhere, mostly to get a better GPRS inclusive deal.
One of the options Im considering Orange, but never been with them before, so would like your advice:
1. Does Orange World (3 or 5) actually give me true data for browsing, or is it WAP (as the blurb indicates)
2. If it is true data, can I take this and do a bolt on of GPRS 3 or 7 to up my inclusive data?
TIA
Off Topic - Orange World
It is probably too late to help you choose networks now but ...
I'm on Orange UK and as far as I know Orange World itself is just wap but the gprs bundles you get with Orange enable you to browse the web without using Orange World. I hope that makes sense.

Long running argument between users.
But as a user, let me clarify that for ME at least, Orange World is NOT only for GPRS WAP, but internet, email, messenger, etc.
Orange have stated that this is correct.

Does anyone know the GPRS settings for Vodafone UK and how to edit them?

Hi
Thanks for that. How about the MMS settings?
I have set some in. But when I go to send the MMS, it says MMS sending for ages.. and I get a BOLD G on the title bar. Also, what does this mean? does it mean I'm connected or I have the option to contect?
Thanks.

Attached Vodafone UK GPRS settings for contract. Let me know if you need payg version.
Try sending yourself an MMS first and then should all be ok - don't ask me why but I had the same problem and this suggestion worked for me.
The bold G on the title bar means that you have GPRS coverage.
Hope this helps,
OB.
Thanks for this..
I will try this and let u know!
Thanks.
This works a treat. Thanks.
To add to the 'can't send MMS' list of hints...
Additionally if you still have trouble sending MMS I found that if you delete the "\storage\Windows\MMS Log" folder and then send yourself an MMS all should be back in working order...
OB.
hi,
i need a pay and go vodafone settings. please can you upload. i cant connect to gprs.
i will be moving to India on Idea network after a months. So can anyone tell me the settings for that.
i have UK XDA II unlocked.
thanks
Here are the Vodafone PAYG settings - copy to PPC and click to install
No idea about India Network - None posted on official i-Mate wesite (www.clubimate.com) - Suggest contact them direct and ask...
OB.
spot on.. working already now... thanks
and can you also upload the settings for VIRGIN PAY n GO...
thanks
Here is Virgin - seems only to be one version as I think Virgin is all a type of PAYG...
OB.
hi.
thanks for that... virgin is working fine now... the thing is that when i installed Vodafone settings, it erased all the previous ones... now when i added virgin, vodafone has been erased...how to keep both
thanks
How to keep both!? Good question...
Only thing I can think of is to keep a copy of the cabs on your SD card (use CABINSTL so as not to delete after execute) and install as needed...

Just got my I-mate and have set up the GPRS for Vodafone UK Contract. I can successfully connect using the VF WAP Connection and VF MMS connection, but if I try the VF Internet GPRS connection, I get every time the error message 'The answering modem has disconnected'.
Anyone any idea how to fix this?
I can only load wap pages using the WAP connection and can't view any html sites. One of the main reasons I traded in my nokia 6230 was to browse html on a bigger screen.

Hi - I have exactly the same issue with Jam/Vodafone UK/contract/GPRS. Has anyone out there got this combination working successfully?

Yes, I have, check out the conversation in http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=24848
If you can't get it to work with the details in there, give me a shout.

Thanks Toine. I saw the other thread after posting here.
You said you cured the problem by implementing gprs proxy settings. Can you please post exactly what settings and where you entered them?

Graham -
I have two connections set up:
Vodafone MMS:
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap

Vodafone Internet:
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap
Password: wap
http proxy: 212.183.137.12:8799
and it works for me.

Thanks again Toine,
I've made progress - now able to browse WAP and Web sites - but still cannot get to my POP3 mailbox.
Could you check your reply? Did you mean to list "wap.vodafone.co.uk" for both connections? If so then I'm really confused... :?
Also, are both connections under "My Work Network"?
I've listed my full config below.
At present I can connect to WAP and Web using the "Vodafone WAP" connection, but if I try to get to my mailbox it says "Unable to connect: Ensure that your work modem is present and inserted correctly, and no network card is present."
The Vodafone Internet connection (using APN of "internet") still refuses to play, saying "The answering modem has disconnected."

ROM DATE 9/22/05
RADIO 01.01.10

ext ROM 1.1.7.105
Model Wiza200
I configured the Gprs According to the CM (china mobile) settings
AP= CMWAP
IP 10.0.0.172 : 9201
Wap.monternet.com
apparently the device connect to GPRS but when I try to surf it say : THE PAGE CANNOT BE FOUND CHECK THE NAME AND TRY AGAIN;
but in fact the GPRS is connected (I can see the icon in the top)
I used the same SIM card on my OLd NOKIA and it works
I really dunno anymore how to solve it
Maybe some mistakes in the configuration....where I should add the port?
AP= CMWAP
IP 10.0.0.172 : 9201
Wap.monternet.com
Looks like WAP settings... Try to find GPRS settings, usually they are different.

Your setting is for WAP and MMS, not GPRS.
Go to 'Setting', 'Connection', 'Connections', Add a new modem connection, Select a modem 'Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G), APN: cmnet, then leave all other fills blank.
access point: cmnet
home page:none
now it says cannot connect to CMNET

Some mistakes in the previous messages.
As a reminder, you can do WAP over GSM or over GPRS as well.
And you can do web surfing or other applications like Skype for instance or other protocols like FTP over GSM or GPRS as well also.
So, to sum-up CMWAP and CMNET are two different APN in order to acces to CMCC GPRS.
CMWAP is used for WAP browsing, but it works also for web! I use it on my Alpine since many months. It seems that you're charged per minute.
CMNET is used for Skype, FTP and other stuff like that. Charged by volume.
I don't know the cost even if I use it now since more than one year
Parameters:
APN: cmwap
In "Proxy Settings", check "This network connects to the Internet"and also "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet". Then fill the field name "Proxy server" with: 10.0.0.172
Then click on "Advanced..." button
In front of HTTP, the port should be 80
In front of WAP, the port should be 9201
In front of Secured WAP, the port should be 9203
In front of Socks, the port should be 1080
APN: cmnet
Click on "Advanced..." button and go to "Servers", then select "Use specific server address" and fill it as following:
DNS: 211.136.20.203
Alt DNS: 211.136.20.203
and don't care about the homepage, you can put what you want and not only Wap.monternet.com
MMS Settings:
Gateway: 10.0.0.172
Port number: 9201
Server address: http://mmsc.monternet.com
I can warrant you that all is working perfectly with these settings all over China since my arrival here (November 2004).
By the way, if you have any information about the billing on each APN, I'm interested in!
Hope it helps!
CMWAP is 20RMB for Month!!!!!!
but by using it I can't connect to MSN...can you?
CMNET...I will try now and I will let you knoe the costs

no way to connect to CM NET....I will call the Customer support and I will let you know
Really strange that you cannot connect to CMNET with these parameters...
And I'm not sure that CMCC Customer Support can do something for you as your terminal will be "Unknown" in their list... after they're definitely lost :?
Where are you living? At Shanghai the both APN works perfectly, and on all the other provinces I've visited CMWAP is working well (I never used CMNET outside Shanghai).
As I said on the previous post, it's normal that you can't use such kind of application like MSN with CMWAP APN!
About the cost of 20RMB for connecting CMWAP you surprise me coz I only have a prepaid GSM subscription... So it should mean that if I connect one time in a month I will be charge 20RMB and if I connect during many days I will be charge the same price...
I will try to have a look to CMCC wesite with my chinese teacher next time
Sure, in many Chinese cities, the CMCC began their service of 20 RMB per month for CNWAP since 2005.
but for me, I use CMNET and CMWAP both, GPRS is specially for my MSN and mail-box. but be careful, the price of GPRS is 0.03 RMB per KB!
but in Shanghai, I don't think the CMCC will give you the price of 20 RMB per month, for as everybody knows, Shanghai is an expensive city, and your Shanghaier are richamen...
Damn the CMCC!
You can surely get the CMWAP package for 20RMB in Shanghai. And CMNET got package as well, which is pretty exp.....
OK, you can get these kind of package for CMWAP as well as for CMWEB APN.
But it's not mandatory.
Since one year, I'm only using prepaid for these 2 APN.
I'm going to check if these packages are more interesting, but I doubt...
That really depends on ur usage. You can turn on the service of gprs with choice to be charged by kb or package, no matter prepaid or contract as long as u pay the money.
I did hear that someone surfs the internet by using proxy in wap, but i havent comfirmed that by myself. If it works, that really saves a lot.

Please see my first post on this thread. It's really easy to surf on the web using CMWAP APN. You just have to configure the Proxy server as I said.
Good luck
You might want to check the connection rules:
start->settings->connections->connections ?
in the settings/GPRS Setting, try to chek if the CHAP authentication is checked.

Just joined Cingular today and am having MMS problems. I've searched on "Cingular MMS" thruout this forum but have not seen any WIZARD USA MMS connection settings. Remember, WIZARD is using WM5 which has a few differences in these setups.
I signed up with Cingular's MEdiaWorks which has data and MMS. I have the data connect working. My settings:
1) My ISP
2) Add a new modem connection
3) Name for connection: <user choice>
4) Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
next
5) APN: wap.cingular
next
6) Username, password & domain: leave blank
finish
This works, connects to Cingular data and I've had up to 135Kbps data rates which is definantly EDGE speeds.
Now for MMS, which I can't get working. I also have never used MMS so I'm not sure of it's interaction with connections, WAP and the phone.
I send a MMS message, it connects,is sending and returns with error message:
"Unable to send your message(s). Your message(s) will be saved in the Outbox."
In MMS section, I click of Menu (WM5)-MMS Configuration, up comes 3 tans. Here are my Servers settings:
Server Name: Cingular MMSC
Gateway: 66.209.11.61
Port Modem: 9201
Server address: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Connect via: (I've tried My ISP and My Work Network without success)
Sending size limitation: 100K
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
In searching, suggestions were to set up a "My Work Network" connection as follows:
Connection name: WAP
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
next
APN: wap.cingular
User name:
Password: CINGULAR1
Domain: blank
finish
Then they said to set up a proxy server which I did as follows:
Check box "This network connects to the Internet"
Check box "This network uses a proxy server ..."
Leave proxy server blank
Click on Advanced
Set both WAP and Secure WAP to:
Server: 66.209.11.61
Port: 9201
User names, password and domain, leave blank
This does not work.
Interestingly, the two connections (My ISP & My Work network) have the same APN, wap.cingular?????
I read one post saying something like you had to configure MEdia Works on your phone. What does this mean?
Any thoughts in the WIZARD community would be helpful. Does Cingular USA even support MMS for the WIZARD??? Yikes
I haven't even got to setting up Express Mail yet. I'm sure another post is comming.
Thanks all
Craig

The HTC WIZARD for Cingular is actualy the HTC 8125 model. Do a google search on 'Cingular 8125' and you see lot's of info. Even Best Buy are starting to carry them ...
I signed up for expressMail from Cingular but they don't have the phone client posted on their web site for the 8125 (Wizard). They do have the HTC 2125 (Smartphone) client but don't offer that phone for sale at their site anyway.
I think we're getting closer to the Wizard at Cingular.
best buy is selling the 8125's alreadY? i'm gonna make a trip down there today!

Cingular MMS Settomgs
Here's a CAB file with the MMS settings for Cingular. It seems to work on my Qtek 9100.
does someone have the same cab file for t-mobile usa (to be used with qtek 9100)
Here's the VPN enabled and without VPN CAB files (USA)
I have attached both the VPN enabled and non-VPN enabled CAB files.
Now that the 8125 is out on cingular, all the mms and medianet settings can be found on the cingular support site. Check it out here:
