All wizard users opinion please

i have the 8125 cool phone, but looking to maybe grab a Sony UX180 for some more CPU demanding things plus the screen size is more appropriate...what do you think? worth $1800?
My opinion, no. I've sold Samsung UMPC for $800 to $1000 depending on specs and condition of course.
A UMPC and PPC is to hard to compare becuase its just to diffrent thing. UMPC for my is TO BIG for replacement of the PPC Phone.
The UX180P is not the most practical device, sure it's cool but that's about it. I would rather a smaller 12"-13" screen laptop instead.
this item seemed cool to take around school and such but i can imagine it being too bulky as a PDA can be at sometimes.

Why Tytn looks so cheap? Shouldn't be the king?

I own this jewel since September and I'm very very happy with it. Nothing compare to symbian or any other smartphone. Palm OS 5.4 was good but is now definitely outdated.
Recently I had the chance to play the new HTC P series products. Although specs are not comparable to Tytn, quality of materials and built finitures are way way way better.
P series quality and look are simply stunning, Tytn is a plastic toy.
To provide an example, it's like holding in one hand a classic nokia plastic shell phone, such as 1100 or 3310, and a Vertu in the other one (or a SE K800 or a Moto K1). I know how many discussions can be raised on materials, look and built quality. Is a V3 really better than a N70, etc. Yet, you get the point.
Tytn is specs leader, but its plastic housing really doesn't fit its overall quality (even Qtek 2020 was better refined).
Why? Simple budget restriction? Tytn price is still higher than any HTC P product though.
Well.. you're flying the Italian flag and they are renouned for their style and culture. On the other hand your location is London so I guess you should be used to over-looking the grim exterior and seeing the quality that lies beneath??
I prefer to say the Hermes (TyTn) is modestly understated as befits a device that does not need frills and frippery to draw attention!!!
As a matter of fact sometimes it does not even ring when people phone it - how's that for modesty!
Mike
and i think i am one of the very few that think this phone feels better constructed and more solid than the wizard... and thats my opinion..
But we all know what they say about opinions..
Italy, as London, is look and inner beauty at the same time.
I'm not discussing its specs or saying that I'm unhappy with it or that is overrated.
My point was that older and newer HTC products look and feel better than Tytn from a strictly materials and built quality perspective.
Just hold for a second in your hand a P series device or any HTC old model (2020, 9090) and you'll fell like Tytn was the black sheep. (I would still get one though!)
HTC claims to be the best manufacturer in the world, but why its best product so far feels like a common plastic nokia?
ergonomically speaking, it's not that great either... especially the buttons. Makes me envy the Treo 750v.. mmmm..
I have a JasJam and i think the device looks great.
Its not all bells and whistles as compared to toy mobiles etc because the jasjam offers solid guts and doesnt need to draw attention to itself.
speaking of the p series, like the p3600 (trinity), yes, they look nice with their black or white polished surfaces etc, but have a look at what is happening to people trinity's after a couple weeks use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=287713
the casing itelf is actually peeling.
I dunno... I like the look & feel of my TyTN much more than I liked my 8125 (Wizard). I especially like the kbd backlight. That's a real eye-catcher IMO.

I like the design. I agree on the backlight. Not so nice that they used cheap-grade plastic parts for the cover, in particular the back-side cover is cheaply made and looks like "made-in-Yugoslawia" in 1960. But really, really bad is the sliding mechanism. That's really poor, considering the suberb "content", and the fact that this device is sold unlocked for up to 700 US$.

And there's no real reason for the sliding mechanism problem as anyone who's read my fix will know. A tiny detail in manufacture and it would be fine - and maybe is in the newer devices.

Heavy off-topic: What's was wrong with 'Made in Yugoslavia' products in '60?!? I think they were great if you ask me... Btw, it used to be great country unlike nowadays ones... Over nostalgic...
Maybe it looks cheap (to my taste it doesn't), but it is NOT to my opinion.
I dropped my device several times, on solid surfaces!, but never a scratch!
After about 4 months heavy use it still looks like new.
So I'm very happy with it.

I'm agree with you, but i'l take care on it, realy happy too.
i think that the M3100 looks are deffinately dull and plasticated. the tytn's metal plate and grey plastic make the handset look a lot better i think.
one of the p-series that looks like the hermes/tytn (forgot its name) i think looks more toy-ish.
Dropped a power cable on mine and I've got a deepish small scratch on the navigation button. Noone else can notice it but I can, bloody annoying .

which metal plate?
I think they just have given up a bit of its looks to add more on the inside! Dont judge a book by it cover!! So far my TyTn is the ****! Wonder why i never got one before! I like the layout! Looks nice! Could have been black, but over long period of use the black would fade and scratch more easy, so gray and silver was the best bet i think!!
If it was made out of stainless or any other metals, then cost would go up! Could also affect signal and whatnot! Also, plastic is more shock resistant!
I've got it and I Like it
I've had the tytn for a few weeks now and I love it. I am not a very flashy guy, and I like the fact that it isn't too flashy. I have the black version and it fits my hand jsut fine.
My problem with the Hermes is the damn front cam. In a video call it is too close compared to my Nokia 6630. They should have put a wider lens or something.
I owned two Nokia 8800 series phones, which were definitely flashy. The 8860 I had (the little chrome phone) was such a pain in the arse though... Fingerprints and cheekprints really ruined the slick look as did the car kit which put scratches on the backside; the chrome on the battery got quite scratched.
I think the TyTN/CHT9000 (HERM200) looks ok; it has the brushed metal look on the front side, which is a nice way to add a little style. Either way though, I'll take the HTC features over the flashy looks of other phones any day.
Some phone companies have better cases than other. The T-Mobile version has nice styled case with a part metalic front and Gunmatel colour. Very cool

Colour your Xda Atom !!!

At your own risk !!!

Hehehehe. Easily done with any device so long as you can rip the casing off and are good at working with acrylic/metal paints.
'Round my area we actually had a service to decorate mobile phones and such, INCLUDING PDA Phones - tho they didn't quite recommend that the Atom go through their iron-on treatment as it makes the paint job flake off.
Nice one!
But I am afraid to destroy my atom life when I try to take off the face plate...it's just too expensive to try...
Over here we have something called the G-Mask. It's works for almost all devices, including normal mobile phones, PDAs and MP3 players. And it peels off easily.
Expensive though...approximately 25 USD

Anyone Getting the Google Phone ?

I am the very worst Gadget-a-holic on the planet I think. This year alone:
i
iphone << Hated it. Gave it to my son.
i-mate ultimate 9502 << Sold it after a few weeks
Samsung i900 Omnia << Sold it IMMEDIATLEY .. hated it.
HTC Touch Pro << A really nice phone . but
Blackberry Bold << never had a blackberry. Tmobile didn't have the correct service books, so the Blackberry browser wouldn't work. Sold it. I will wait until Tmobile gets the books ..
Then I ordered the new Google Phone - All along wishing for the Xperia to be released. But the Google phone looks great - It is an HTC phone right ? The HTC Touch Pro was really nice, but ... Now the Xperia is out. A dealer/seller said he can get me one next week. I wonder if I should wait to see what the Google phone is like .. but ... I HAVE WAITED FOR A YEAR FOR THE XPERIA.
Diane
PS .. I keep going back to my trusty Nokia N93 while I wait for the next gadet to be released. So far the only new phone I have an interest in is the Xperia .. What I have learned so far is NEVER AGAIN get a phone without regular keys. The next Blackberry will be touchscreen by keyless also. So that will not be a phone I test drive. I really like the BB Bold though.
PPS ... I still take my HTC Shift with me almost every day to the office. I hardly ever turn it on, but it feels good to know it is in my purse right next to me if I want to use it.
Could please share why you didn't like the iPhone and the Omnia? (a friend is thinking about buying an Omnia)
Anyway, i don't like the G1, cos imo it's VERY ugly, can't look at it
Another reason is cos it sounds like a half-baked device, sure you get the open source android but out of the box you don't have video recording and other features, that you've come to expect.
Probably won't be as satisfying to get it now, when android programs are yet to be made, as to ... say an year from now, when all the little things are going to be worked out (and who knows there might even be prettier devices)
I only have 1 problem with the Omnia and it is the same thing as the iphone. No keyboard. I don't do a lot of texting, but when I do it takes me forever .. maybe because I am female and have nails [just a very small nail - don't picture those claws.] and I am overly worried about my nails on the glass and sometimes it takes forever to type something without mistakes.
If I could invent a phone - I would put the keyboard on the top and the touchscreen would slide out rather than the other way around. I can't remember who the maker was, it was maybe 3-4 years ago even, but there was a phone with the ear and mike on the back side of the phone . . this way the glass didn't get scratches from your earrings or dirty with makeup.

Got My Hands on Galaxy S 2 and the New Tab. pics inside with mini review.

First of all excuse My English. its far from perfect.
So yeah. my friend works for Samsung. and i got my hands on the Galaxy S 2 and the new Tab.
i will post pics of the Tab later. kinda busy @ work " and honestly dont care about the Tab at all. i found the ipad 2 is better for me but thats just me
back to the Galaxy S2.
in short. its light. very light. the iphone 4 is heavier.
the device has edges. so its not smooth as say nexus S.
in terms of software, i didnt find any slowdowns or lag. which is a very good thing. because the Atrix used to lag alot even though its a dual core phone too " wtf was up with that ?? "
the Screen. ok.. its same as super amoled. i didnt notice anything different in terms of colors and blacks. HOWEVER. i can no longer see the pixels like Nexus S and Galaxy S screens. its very hard to notice now. sure its no iphone 4. but its damn good. think of as clear as super LCD screen. but with Super Amoled colors. i say its best of both words.
the sound was very high. very clear.
again this phone is so light at one point i really thought its a toy. i am not sure many people like that. its as heavy as galaxy S 1.
personally i like the phone a little heavier " say desire HD or iphone 4 type of heavy " ., it kinda makes the phone more expensive. " but thats just me "
oh and for the people who are wondering, there is NO cracky noise when you hold the phone tight. no sqeeky sound whatsever, its firm . which is a good thing.
i just REALLY didnt like the back of the phone. the plastic look of it is cheap. but on front ? its amazing.
so smooth and when its off. it makes you feel the whole front is a screen " its not ofcourse "
as for the Tab. honeycomb in it. didnt like it much. the theme was all black and blue. was very sweet. the way menus move was nice. laggy a little i dont know why. specially when i opened gallary. it has a nice interface but thats about it.
Gd Review, very usefull info.
Thank You
your welcome
Thanks for the great review. Say we drop the phone by mistake..u think it will cause a considerable amount/permanent damage to the phone in itself..since the back esp. is made out of plastic?
Overall, are u happy with the build quality?
Nice info etc - but that is not a retail model! Apparently the back has changed on the retail model, making it ever so slightly heavier too....

yes. if you drop the phone, it will get damaged. think of it as galaxy S 1 really. the problem is if you drop it in the edges, thats where it will suffer the most. that being said. i dont think if you drop it like 2 meters high on a carpet will damage anything. but on the floor or the street? 1 meter and the phone is a goner.
as for the build quality. not really. on the front. yes its very beauitiful. the way the screen is presented and how its smooth with almost no edges on the side " the screen it self is very close to the edge. "
but the back is just horrible ugly thing. i am slapping this phone with a nice non see throu cover as soon as i get my hands on one. because its not an eye candy for sure.

the way the phone is designed. there is no way to get a heavier back cover.
the cover it self is really very stupid. its very cheap. makes you wonder what the hell samsung was thinking when they decided to put that cover.
you have to know that the back cover isnt something like nexus S or Galaxy S where it takes the whole back of the phone.
the back cover is just a big square box that you pretty much just slap it to the back of the phone.
say for example if you drop the Nexus S or galaxy S and the back cover got damaged, all you do is change the back and your good to go like a brand new.
on the galaxy S 2 if you drop the phone on the edges, and you want to replace the damaged part. you have to take off the whole phone apart. " think of it as motorolla droid " which i think is a big -ve thing IMHO
actually you have the NON retail unit.
in the retail unit the phone back case is DIFFERENT.
CASE CLOSED.
I hope its not too light...Im imagining a very breezy day and the phone is not held tightly in the hand..and because of its low weight the phone falls from the hand.. lol I really want this phone!

I dont think i said they are a retail unit. I was posting my review on the build that the company is showing to carriers so they can partnership with them.
The phone it self was super fast regardless how it looks or what i think of it.
Also for the gamers here like me. This phone is your dream come true for the emulators. The n64 was super smooth and fine with almost all games i played ( zelda. Mario 64. Mario kart. Golden eye was amazing)
it can play super smash bros? the 1 with zelda kirby mario and etc?
god I missed that game..
Screen and touchpad isnt as close i want- look at iphone.

yes. but not as smooth as 60fps. i think more about 30 fps. it was playable.
i also tried killer instect. that game wasnt playable at all on nexus S. when the phone was over clocked to 1.5, it was playable but with laggy. on the Galaxy S2 the lag way less than than the over clocked 1.5. which is amazing really.
however. i dont think the phone has the power to play Dream cast emulators tho.
now when it comes to the playstation emulator. was super smooth and super nice. some games the sound wasnt very synced. so i put the option in the video settings to skip frames to the max " 10 " and it played so smooth i felt like i am holding a PSP with me lol "
nice device really.

as i agree, the screen is more closer to the edges on the iphone.
like i said, as hardware design. the galaxy S2 isnt really a loooker. its no Arc for example or Nexus S. its a blocky phone that has 4 years old look back. and honestly it look cheap.
under the hood. its a beast. i honestly think people should cover the phone. specially in the back. its ugly
HEY
dont forget you had a non retail unit
maybe a retail unit , which also has 1.2ghz processor, could run 60 FPS n64 emulator

every thing is possible. i am just posting my feedback on what i had in my hand. and specs wise. i am impressed. this is hands down the :
- fastest android phone i ever used " including Atrix "
- Best Screen for an android device " including Atrix/Nexus S " but not the iphone screen " wont go on Vs here between the 2 screens as its personal taste and i like the iphone 4 screen more "
- Gaming heaven for all emulator fans. i still remember trying to play N64 " Mario 64 " on my iphone 4 and the that **** couldnt run @ 10 fps even though its almost the same GPU/CPU as Nexus S but what gives. hell they were missing buttons too " and couldnt change that "
all in all. this is one great device.
however. i think it needs voodoo color fix. as the screen had yellowish white. like someone pissed on the screen. this issue happened on both galaxy S and NExus S. voodoo will fix it. but ofcourse it has to be rooted/unlocked boot loader as well.
odd.. the samoled+ is supposed to be WAY better than iphone4..
then again, idc, its iphone 4 XD
I love toying around with my phone.. not being stuck on same crap.. even jailbreak doesnt help that much..
Well I had an Xperia Arc for two weeks and the back cover was even cheaper than my Galaxy S, it has cracky noise when you hold the phone normally and that looked cheap as hell. The sharp edges were un-ergonomic , the back button wasn't reachable easily... I got rid of it very quickly
And for the design it's a matter of taste, for me the GSII is definitely a looker and that's one of its strenghs and the iPhone 4 is the one that have a 5years old design (just look at the difference between the first gen...)
but thanks for the litle review anyway
Agree on the looks, i think that the SGS2 is far more beautiful than both HTCs phones and the Iphone.. I find HTC designs a bit dull and not that interesting.
Although i really liked the old backcover on the SGS2, which had that silvershine pattern opposed to the new plain black one. But i might get a case for it so it won't matter all that much.

funny, the only reason i replacing htc inspire (desire hd) with galaxy S2 cus it' freaking heavy, like a brick!
i like to surf internet in bed, after holding inspire (desire hd) for 15 minutes, your hand will get sore!
(You don't got retail model - no Samsung Logo so probably another back cover(as we saw, retail version got another back cover). You don't have any photo of your back cover btw.)
Edit: already posted.
