hi. For the last few days i've been having a stange problem and can't figure out what/why its happening.
I have an XDA IIi (O2) and a SanDisk 512mb sd card.
In file explorer, it should be shown as "Storage Card" but every so often at no particular time or after no particular event, it renames itself to "Storage Card2". I still have a "Storage Card" folder but it's empty.
If I do a soft reset its still there as "Storage Card2". To get it back to normal I have to remove the card, soft reset and reinsert the card. then it works as "Storage Card" for a time...
Any ideas or help appreciated

You haven't created any folders / directories called storage card by any chance?
Mike
I found the problem. a directory named "storage card" was created in my root directory.
now I deleted it and the problem is gone.
thank you. that was the exact problem, only I didn't create it but my "card export" created.
OK - good that it's solved
Mike
This will happen if you remove the SD card and some application still thinks its there. It will create a folder "storage card" for writing files and the next time your SD card is there it will get the next free name, e.g. "storage card2".
One application that does that: Pocket Internet Explorer with registry tweak to use the storage card. So if you use that tweak make sure there is always a SD card inserted. Or close PIE and disable the tweak - before removing the card.

Sometimes after a soft reset I find that I cannot access my SD card. the reason is that my card has been renamed "Storage Card2" and I have a new "storage card" that really does not exist. In order to access my card I have to delete "storage card" and reset, then storage card2, becomes just storage card. I have this happen with two different cards, so i am sure it is not the card.
I am assuming my card is not initializing and that is creating the problem? If so, can I do anything about that? If that is not the problem, then what?
Cingular 8125 with HTC ROM 2.25.
that happenned to me once too.
Few days ago my storage card (mini SD 1Gb) got new name: Storage Card2.
I noticed that after a soft reset (hp ipaq 6965, WM5) a new folder had been created on the hp device, called Storage Card and the actual storage card (with all files) was being designated Storage Card2.
If I delete the new folder and remove and reinsert SD card then it reverts to being storage card. Unfortunately it reverts to storage card2 after every soft reboot.
How to solve above problem ?
Encounter this before too. But some how it does not happen too frequent.
May be you would want to try defragmenting your memory card?
Would a full hard reset solve this?
just hard reset ppc storage card problem will solve

Not only with hard reset, If this happens, all the shortcuts/launchers for applications that are installed in the Storage card will stop working, though you can still launch them by going to the respective folder in Storage Card2. You cannot delete "Storage card" folder because some applications may be using files from here. The solution? Rename the folder! Once you rename, immediately do a soft reset. Once the OS boots again, quickly locate this renamed folder and delete it. Now you can insert your SD/CF card back and you will see it being properly named as Storage Card. Peace.
Good Luck!
Hello,
yesterday i encounterd a rather starnge problem with my prohet.
My SD Card suddenly appears as Storage Card2 in the PDA, so none of the programs that are installed on it can be run right now.
the data is all still there and also i discovers a folder named "Storage Card" in my Device no matter if the SD card is inserted or not.
inside is a temp folder
inside there a Cache,Cookies and a History folder
in each of those is one file that appears to be connectet to the internet explorer
namely Content.IE5 in cache
index.dat in Cookies
History.IE5 in History
i tryed to delete the complete Storage Card folder with total commander but it faild telling me 3 files could not be deletet.
when the device is connected to the pc via active sync i can see the same folders but when i try to delete them i get an error that they can not be deletet cose of insufficient right, or they could be in use, or not enough space on the disc. or write protection
how can i get rid of those files and get my SD card back as "Storage Card" instead of "Storage Card2"?
Basically, the "Storage Card" folder would have been created when IE was used but the storage card was not installed. The easy option would be to Hard Reset, however it may be possible to close IE and then remove the storage card folder. After this you'll need to soft reset.
I had the same issue several times when I'm using a miniSD on my himalaya with a adopter. But a soft reset was always enough for me...

the starnge thing is that the sd card is more or less permanentliy inserted in the prophet, i usually just remove it to copy something on it from the pc, and in that time i dont use the pda.
since i have installed opera mini, i dont use IE at all, cant recall when i started that program the last time.
allerady tryed a soft reset and to delete the folders afterwards, but rigth from the start the files are "locked"
and i really want to avoide a hardreset. took me allmost 2 weeks to get the device fine tuned as it is right now, and actually in the 20 months i have this device now its the first time it is running without any problems since about 3 months. before that i allwas needed to make a hardreset every few weeks.
Maybe opera mini is using the same cache as PIE?
I think, it may be possible to change the registry settings for IE cache and storage and then reset and remove the files. I'll check up the registry settings for that...
just delete it
did you change your internet cache to the sd card?
when reset your ppc there wasn't a card inside the sd slot it will prompt the ppc to create an alternative folder for the internet cache.
simply insert the sd card into the slot, soft reset, and when it goes back to windows delete the 'storage card' folder created in your ppc (retaining the storagecard2) , remove the sd, and reinsert it back.
the ppc will now recognize your sd as the 'real storage card'
hope this will work for u...
That won't work as the cache will store into the "Storage Card" folder, adn not "storage Card".
Had a thought! Try renaming the "storage card" folder to storage card2, insert the SD card and then soft reset. then, try and delete the folder that isn't your storage card...
Hi all
I used sktools to move and store my e-mails in storage card. on each start up, hd2 renames my storage card as "storage card 2" and creates a folder named "storage card" on device. I can rename or erase it but I can not do this on every start up.
Is this because my storage card is slow?
Any advice please?
mine used to do this also, i got bored of removing the sotrage card 2 folder so just left it, annoying being there but doesnt cause me any probs, everythiung still goes onto the actual SD card. prob has stopped now since doing a hard re set a few days back, so not sure what causes it. if i get again ill prob just ignore.
but doesn't it rename existing storage card as #2 and create "storage card" on device. then the e-mails will be still kept on the device.
yeah it does rename the actual storage card as storage card 2. never tried to get emails etc saved onto it though so not sure about that.

I am going to guess that either at one time, you removed your storage card while the phone was on, or you had issues with your storage card ...
You should find a file in your device memory named "Storage Card" rename it to something like "Storage Card3" and Reset your device as soon as you rename it ...
then it should be back to normal, when you restart, then you should be able to remove "Storage Card3" ...
Hope it helps
it is about sktools. on each reset sktools creates a new storage card and also renames real storage card as storage card2.
I am able to rename them to normal. but I can not do it each time. I am looking for a way to avoid sktools doing this.
this is not SKTools create folder.
In your startup loaded poutlook.exe. But this time OS has not yet been initialized your card. So messaging program cannot find path and will create folder Storage Card. After this OS end initializing card, but name "Storage Card" already used and OS will set for card name "Storage Card2". This is common problem.
Try delete poutlook.exe and tmail.exe from startup.
If this not help - wait new ROM update. Maybe they fix it ( i not believe).
Thanks for the comments.
Any other program to let outlook write the email bodies and attachments to Storage card?
