It seems to always bring up a menu of words to guess when I use it. I don't have predictive text enabled, so could anyone help me out ?
Bump, or is there no way to do this?
Swype setting word choice to never show
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I thougt it was annoying too at first, but after I got used to it, it made sense. If it has the correct word, you just keep swyping. If it's wrong it's a simple press to correct. If it's completely wrong, press back and re-swype the word. Then again, I am a horrible swyper, so that may be why I need all the help I can get.
Okay guys. So I've successfully rooted the phone, removed bloatware, played with different ROMs, but this one stupid "OK" button is puzzling me.
WHAT DOES THE OKAY BUTTON DO????
It doesn't do what I expect it to do.. most of the time it does nothing. If I hold it down while texting it just highlights everything in red.
I've been wondering the same thing since day 1.
The best answer I can offer as of yet is "nothing"
The ok button is like hitting enter or a left mouse click in some cases. If you are scrolling through clickable links in the browser or the marketplace ok will click on the link and open it (you may have noticed enter or return doesn't do that). I imagine it also selects yes if a yes/no dialogue box comes up.

Not precisely. That would be what we expect of an "OK" button. Thx for replying.
Does anyone know exactly what this f*'in OK button does on the Droid2????????
The same thing as the center of the dpad did on the D1....
If you use the arrow keys to select something on screen, like an icon, link, or menu item. The ok button would do the same as tapping on it... you can even hold it on an item to get the same effect as long press.

Um......that is what it does.
I was wrong about it selecting yes in a yes/no box, I thought I had done that once.
But what it does do, is as I sad, and the poster above me said. It clicks on links or linkable type things (such as an app in the market).
The poster above me said the same thing, only in a better way. It is like the center of the dpad (or clicking the trackpad on other android phones). It is sort of like finger pressing what you are on without using the touch screen.
Does anybody else hate it when you press the fn key and try to correct something by pressing backspace and the whole message gets deleted? Any way to turn that feature off? It has happened to me way too many times now.
You might be able to edit the keyboard mappings to do this, but I don't have any experience in that area.
I just have gotten into the habit of holding modifier keys instead of tapping before the next key.
Sorry your a step ahead of me...... I have been wondering why my message gets wiped every so often..... must be the fn thing...... I thought i was going crazy

sometimes you are typing fast and then you try to add a question mark or something. you make a mistake and it still has that FN command blinking and you don't notice...you press backspace and bye bye to your whole message.
While were talking about keyboard issues here (since I couldn't really find another place to ask) does anyone know how to "select all" which would normally be ctrl + A, for the epic. I was using gmail and wanted to delete "all" my spam mail at once instead of one by one. I know it something I did on my N900 easily due to the physical keyboard but after reading through the keyboard shortcuts from Cnet I didn't see this particular shortcut listed.

I believe I just push down on the screen for 3 seconds and select "select all"

Happens to me at least once a day. Would love to see it go. : )

Thanks for replying, I tried to long press on the screen in gmail but it only selects the the email I tap and when I long press the actual label for spam it doesn't do anything. I guess regular pc keyboard shortcuts aren't available with the keyboard on the epic, which is unfortunate... I love the keyboard though.

fn backspace
Any one have any news on this issue, regarding turning off the FN+backspace = erasing an entire line?
It happens to me AT LEAST once a week, but it's gotten old really fast. I agree with several users...it's just a function I don't need and end up accidentally deleting lines as a result. If I could just turn it off, I'd be MUCH happier than wishing it was there since I never use it.
Whether it's a setting or even an app or add-on that can help I'd appreciate it.
As much as I love the Epic overall, and I may well be in the minority on this one, but even months into owning it the biggest thing that screws me up continually coming from my previous keyboard phone is the placement of the Fn key to begin with. If I had designed this phone, the Fn and Shift keys would be interchanged position wise with the Fn key the one in the very bottom left corner.
It happened to me with droidx multitouch kb installed

I'm just now starting Android, and I'm a bit confused, sorry if this isn't the right place to put this thread, or even the right forum at all. I just need some help and this is the only place I knew where to come.

Am I doing something really obvious wrong?
I might post multiple questions here in the future, if that's ok.
I'm just getting started too. Buy try giving your textview an id, then on your button assign the [email protected] I know that syntax isn't right. But on my phone right now and can't get into eclipse to look.
Example: http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-relativelayout.html

???
Is it not seeing it as a Button?
Ok I needed quotations, but then it broke everything, uh.
Ok I managed to get the text and buttons, can someone tell me how to make a dialog pop-up when the button is pressed, and then make the back button close the dialog?
You really should work thru all the tutorials on here;

That would be if you were using a RelativeLayout, not a LinearLayout

Create a simple activity and set its theme to dialog. If you do so the back button will work. (Use intent to start the activity)

You could make a blank alert box with no button. Probably not good practise to do that, but it would work.
something like:
Code:
AlertDialog.Builder alertbox = new AlertDialog.Builder(CLASSNAME.this);
alertbox.setMessage("This is the alertbox!");
alertbox.show();
The default google swipey keyboard (whatever its called) always corrects this to loll. its driving me but**** insane. can someone please please PLEASE tell me how to get the stupid keyboard to start recognizing lol?
pet peeve #2? How the hell do you type email addresses? I swipe my name, @, the email name..then when i try to put '.com' it puts a damn space before the "."
super annoying. i have to back up and manually type the letters one at a time every single time.
is there like a tips and tricks somewhere? I have bad habits carried over from swype i guess..i also miss having a gesture (loop) to capitalize a word.
Go to your personal dictionary and add lol. That should fix that for you.

thanks..i've tried doing that right from the keyboard and failed..i guess i need to go find that setting under preferences...?
also if i paste the wrong text into messenger..i have to sit and hold the delete key while it slowly erases it 1 character at a time before i can type something new.
any way to clear the entire message area with one gesture or click so i can type something else?
this is very annoying when i kept trying to copy sometihng from a webpage and the wrong text kept being pasted into the message
The first 1 can be found under Settings /language & input/personal dictionary
The only way I know how to delete the whole message box is too long press the message box highlight everything in the box and cut it. It's just as easy to use the delete key though.

I would take this as an opportunity to stop saying LOL.

just type capital L, capital O, capital L. Click the blue LOL, click it again. Press OK. Done.
I've already done it to mine. And I probably should have done as mentioned and taken it as an opportunity to stop typing it.

I agree with this. Especially considering 90% of the time when someone types "LOL," they're not really laughing out loud.
I'd also suggest you use SwiftKey.
