DVD to PPC - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi Guys,
I know this has been discussed before, and trust me I have trawled through the many posts about it, but I want to know if there is any FREEWARE with no limit restrictions that will enable me to decode a DVD to MPEG or AVI.
I have tried a few trials and for some reason, on most of them my PC crashes (mouse freezes) so I don't really have to buy one and find out it won't work without my PC crashing (I have a 2.0GHZ PC with 256mb RAM by the way).
I badly want to put some DVDs onto my XDA 2 before I go on holiday on Saturday!!!
cheers

Look thru the ftp site... there was a full version of dvd2ppc when I looked this morning. It was in the uploads folder but be quick.

cheers man, but what ftp site, i'm pretty new to this
ta

it's ok, I found it. thanks for your help

Don't suppose you could help me with a Username and Serial Number otherwise it's pretty useless. Cheers

Try PocketDivXEncoder (http://divx.ppccool.com/) Works a treat I use it on both my XDAII and my c500.
You will Also need BetaPlayer (http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/) to play it back.
Give that a go let me know.

Twichibi requested a U/Name and P/word for DVD2PPC. If whoever uploaded to the ftp has got the info could they PM it to me also.
Thanks

Username and Serial Number not P/Word !!!!

Please refrain from requesting or posting cracks/serials/passwords on this site please. We can then carry on helping each other without the site being closed down owing to piracy/copyrights issues.

Wouldn't normally ask but the file was uploaded in the first place with the intention of helping out others. Just a bit pointless without a username/serial number.

cruisin-thru
I know where you're coming from but if that's the way it is then half the stuff on the ftp site should be removed !

I'm sorry but rules are rules. I don't know if this is technically allowed either but I will tell you that astalavista.com is a great security website.

So basically to answer my original question there is naff all free software out there for decoding dvd's

Use fairuse wizzard: I've tried them all this is the best - easiest - free and use the free betaplayer to view them.
I strip the movies plus the original audio plus the directors commentry and watch whilst travelling.
http://www.fairusewizard.com/lang_en/index.html

"The Light Edition has all the features of the Full Edition excet that it doesn't allow for range selection and encodings greater than 700 MB"
So I can definitely convert a full DVD film to DivX for FREE?

use google just type in dvd to pocketpc and give a huge pile of results also free ones
http://www.pocketmovies.net/dvdrip.php
http://www.google.dk/search?hl=da&q=dvd+to+pocketpc&btnG=Google-søgning&meta=

i've done that mate, but most of them are ones where it only lets you decode half of the dvd before you buy

what about this one ?

Software CDs

Would anyone be willing to put any XDA II software they have on CDs or Floppy Disks, or even on a website for me please? I'm willing to pay toward the costs, maybe could run a CD exchange program...fill a CD and I'll send you two blanks back lol
If anyone would be willing to do any of this could you email me on [email protected], leave details here or PM me on forum?
If anyone emailed my AOL email I'm sorry but that email no longer exists, please note new email above.
Thanks alot
Rob

Are you looking or software specific to xda2 or any software for pocket pc that ill run on xda2?
IF you give me an FTP site, I would gladly upload you a bunch of PPC warez
this is not a site which is warez related !
warez lelated sites have p0rn popups all over the place this site
dont, so i cant be a warez site it's as simple as that
lol I don't have an FTP at the moment but will work on it.
I'm looking for any software compatible with the XDA2 basically, it doesn't have to be specific to it, just so long as it works on it

PPC Software
I'm just curious why you would not just do a Google search and download them yourself? I'm sure you are not advocating that people send you free copies of software that they paid their own hard-earned money to buy, so you must be talking about freeware and possibly shareware. Given that, you can just save all of that time waiting for the CDs to arrive and download them yourself!
Just a small tip: get eMule (www.emule-project.net) and search for anything you want (yes anything in this world you'll find it there, and FREE)
If you notice i didnt mention free at any point, in fact i offered to pay towards costs etc. Also, I did initially mean freeware. To be honest, I work long hours and I tend to find sifting through all the software out there looking for something that either works, works the way I want, or is decent; quite time consuming. It's usually evening by the time I get the chance and I was looking to save time, not necessarily money.
And thanks for the tip
Rob

it's the same thing as asking about software that is compatible with something like a hp pc
all pc software would work if the os is right
it's the same with a xda2 all software which is compatible with windows ce will work well sure some dont but that is more because of other issues
so all pocketpc software will run on your xda2 since 10000's of programs have been writen for that platform you cant fit it on just 1 cd

Hermes Audio Codec Question

I've searched around and found a few posts but so far nothing has worked.
Here's my scenario. I've got a PBX with Unified Messaging capabilities, these messages are encoded using ADPCM, now the distributor for the PBX includes a coded for windows machines to play the ADPCM format they use, however from what I can tell there is so far (that i've found) no coded for windows mobile.
What options do I have for playback of these audio files? I can't really change the output of the PBX (i could but then file size would become an issue since ADPCM is really good at compressing telephone quality voice). As I mentioned earlier I do have the windows codec, is there anyway to port it to work on Windows Mobile 5?
I have tried a few of the players listed here, however they don't want to play those Wav files... so I wonder if its a customized ADPCM codec their using...
Anyways I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.
Thanks~
I know what your looking for, and more importantly, due to extensive research I know where to find it.
Yes you are looking for the legendary G SPOT.
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
Its a great little app, no install necessary. It identifies the codecs used for audio and video files.
My advice, have a play.. you cant go wrong.
Ahh, thankyou very much.
Looks like its using Dialogic OKI ADPCM which I kinda doubt has mobile support but I'll dig around and see what I can find.
I dont really understand the sytem you have nor what your trying todo with the audio files it produces.. I assume to semi automated retreival/listening to them.
From a quick scan of the codec databases people are having huge problems obtaining this OKI thing for regualr windows. no mention at all of a mobile codec for oki.
Or there is this , which isnt really automated but it will allow you to play and convert the OKI's to a format your ppc can use.
http://sox.sourceforge.net/
As they have the soruce code available, you could spend the summer modding a ppc version ..
Or another option, they have the atariST executables, which you could run on a atari emulator hither. http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=767
Good luck keep us posted.
Thanks for the link.
Your correct, the system automatically attaches their voicemail and emails a copy to them. conversion's not really an option but I might just have to go that route. OKI makes some pretty small wav files (200-250k per min) so thats what makes it great for this application. Im also going to pester the distributor of this voicemail to see if they've tweaked it any for such an application.

About to Get a Mogul...What Programs Should I Get?

There seems to be a ton of posters here who know a lot about the Mogul and phones/PDAs in general...so I figured I'd pose the question to you all.
I'd love suggestions for what I should download...so if possible, could you respond with answers to the following questions:
1) What program?
2) What does it do? Please state the purpose/usefulness.
3) How do I download and install it? Link to find the download?
4) What, if any, existing program will be unnecessary once I download it? And can that unnecessary program be deleted?
I've never had a PDA, so any and all suggestions are welcome. I'll be using the PDA predominantly for calls, web-surfing, and messaging.
Also keep in mind that I'm new to all of this, and I'm a complete moron...I don't understand a damned thing. So talk to me like I'm a 5-year-old. I don't know abbreviations like SMS or MMS, or whatever.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate you taking time out to help me.
Well one of the programs I use the most on my phone is The Core Media Player (TCPMP) it is by far the best media player for Pocket PC's and can play most file types. you can get more information from here, and if you want to download it just respond saying yes and ill post a link. Don't download it from the site as I have a newer version than on that site.
http://www.freewareppc.com/multimedia/tcpmp.shtml
i hate to be the one to say it, but after seeing the views on this go up and no replies i'm just going to say what everyones been thinking. look around? theres hundreds of threads with stuff to download for your phone, you just have to look a little
Most of our WM devices are very similar. As such, pretty much everything that's been said before still applies, so check the wiki, where you should find many articles related to this conundrum.

Yeah, can you post a link? Thanks, I appreciate it.
And to you other two, I understand that...like I said, though, I'm a beginner and a lot of stuff goes over my head. So I figured I'd create a thread and can ask questions and whatnot.
It's fine if people don't want to respond, though. Life will go on. And some people have been nice enough to take time to explain stuff to me, so it's ok.

Have you got .8?
I've heard rumors of its existance, but can't find it yet. Still running 0.72... If that's the newer version that you've got, would you mind sharing it?
Here it is v.81, sorry it wouldn't let me upload to the site like normal so i put it on megaupload, to install it just download the file and copy it to your memory card or phone memory, then open it with file explorer on your phone and install it to either the device or memory card. Then open it from start/programs/media player

Thanks a lot killer, I appreciate it.

Sprite Backup
Sprite Backup is a must! Even if you keep it connected to your ActivSync PC daily, it is good to have a baseline you can always restore to, and I'd suggest having it backup to your SD card, and rename one of them every few weeks so you have something to restore from in case it gets completely fragg'd.
Another one is Skyfire (Beta) mobile internet browser.
I'd also suggest you get Microsoft Reader or EReader so you can have pocket novels on your phone (it's a nice thing to have when you're waiting for something). Also, rip your DVD's to your PC and encode them to WMV format and your ActivSync can put them on your SD card...
All of these tricks are discussed here in the forum. Hope this helps.
I will just give titles of some of the apps that I use. Google them to find where and what they do.
PIM: PocketInformant
Wallet: CodeWalletPro 6
Geocaching: GeoScout
maps: Google Maps, Live Search
Bible: Bible Reader
Today Plugin: HHC Home Customizer (will download HTC home plugin)
Shell: SBP Mobile Shell v.2
Browser: Opera Mini
Regedit: PHM RegEdit
File: Resco File Explorer
Video: TCPMP
Navigation: TomTom7
There are a bunch of other little apps that just make life easy, go to Handango.com and find what you need your phone to do for you.

A few small questions...

Hey all,
So far, this place has been a fountain of knowledge, which I'm truly grateful for, which makes learning my Herme's fun and easy going.
Since joining here, I've managed to switch my Keyboard from German to English, with thanks for the Advanced Config Tool, get Xvid's working under TCMP something or other, get Pocket MSN running, and a few other things...
But here are a few things which have been grinding my gears (sorry, just watched Family Guy);
A.) How do I change the message received tone and the alarm tones?
B.) How can I switch off the auto suggestions for text messages etc, even though it seems to be off in tools
C.) Is Linux on the Hermes any good / Is it still being developed and supported / would it be worth it me switching to Linux?
D.) Where do you all get your spares from? Preferably excluding Ebay.
E.) If theres anyway to have WMP / the HTC Music player continue playback from last play / track / session? (I.e. If i get off a bus, and have to turn off a track, instead of having to reselect the album i was listening to, for it just to auto-recognise the track being "paused".)
The reasoning behind D, is because although my Hermes is secondhand, not to mention purchased from Ebay, the seller kindly sold me a headphone adaptor, the screen slightly marked, and the camera cover is scratched to hell, not to mention the keyboard seems to be slightly raised in the middle, meaning a segment of keys have been worn down, along with a scuff above the keyboard.
So since I want to try and get it looking fairly decent, I'd like to know where you get your stuff from, and if anyone can recommend me a decent adaptor for headphones when listening to music.
I'm sure I'll have more questions, but for now these will do.
Thanks in advance guys, and keep up the good work!
Regarding question D - here are a few suggestions:

Thanks Mike!
Just a shame about my other questions. lol
Hopefully someone will suggest some stuff.

Regarding A,B and C, I'm pretty sure there are existing threads on these. Don't worry overly if the threads are not Hermes specific. As for E I'm not sure that it's possible, but I could well be wrong, especially if you are using a proprietry player.
Mike
PS. Generally rolling up several questions in one post ends up not being very successful (even if at first it seems efficient and space saving. You may need to separate them out.)
Cheers
lol, thanks for the help there Mike.
To be completely honest, i had been searching before doing this post. Most of my little queries had been resolved that way.
Ah well, i'm just going to continue looking.
Thanks once again Mike!
Two more things...
How would I be able to re-install MS Office onto my hermes, since its not currently installed?
Also, are there any games available for it?
Another one...
Hopefully for any music buffs, this will be easy enough.
I currently have a large amount of music in various bitrates, however my main collections are in 320kbps.
Obviously, transfering this data from PC to phone is ok, but takes up loads of unneccessary space.
Does anyone use anything to convert their tunes to a lower bitrate (128kbps approx) while keeping the music in MP3 format so it can be used with Audio Manager, keeping all the original mp3 info (Artist, Track Title, Album etc), or should I cut my losses and move back to crappy itunes using m4a within WMP?
Do a search for the ms office cab file. Just click on it and it will install or look for the single cabs for each thing, depending if you need all the components.
I use SUPER (freeware) to change my bitrate on my MP3's, I don't know if it will take away any of the info but its worth a try as the install file is about 32 Kbs. If it doesn't work then you've lost 10 mins.
Cheers...
I use dBpoweramp music converter, it's also free and easy to use.
Cool, thanks for the advice guys! Just had loads of music as m4a, but then WMP doesn't recognise the names, and you have to constantly open the albums you want, rather than simply selecting the artist within album manager.
Will try those out tonight!

Kinoma Play on TG01 (touchflo3D killer)

hello all
kinoma Play looks really impressive in this video. http://www.wmexperts.com/next-release-kinoma-play-features-its-own-home-screens
are there any toshiba tg01 rom dumps floating around?
i hope people here are interested in porting this thing to our ''htc devices
This is just the next update ok Kinoma Play, which can be dowloaded on ur HTC.
Just wait few weeks for the update.
It's a good soft indeed.
wow this is very good!
the thing feels like its running on a 3GHZ machine with a geforce 8800
too damn impressive on the tg01
As this software comes bundle with TG01, Toshiba might shared the API for hardware acceleration to Kinoma Team. Remember this is a entire new processor platform (named Snapdragon). This software would never perform like this in ours old MSX7200 processors.
truly impressive
twice as smooth as the iphone with 2.5x the number of pixels so that makes it 5x as immpressive
its hard to tell where the constant 60FPS is comming from. is it from the cool coding tricks or from the CPU specs of the TG01. looks like both
I just love the Toshiba TG01
And Kinoma doesn't seem to be so bad either
Sascha
greatttttttt
I've tried this program, but there are a few hangups that really keep me from using it.
The first one is that it will only "intelligently" scan your device and storage card. There is no option to setup what folders to scan or leave out of a scan. They're only response as a "fix" to this is to put any directory you don't want scanned in the Program Files folder on your device/card. This means I have to redo my entire storage structure to work around their smart scan.
Also, they don't support .avi video files. They say "It's not used for legitimate content distribution" and that "it was always a poorly-defined format with many undocumented mutations that make it a mess to implement and support".
Well, one can argue the legitimacy of certain files, but that's not up to the video player to decide IMO. I have purchased several legitimate programs that convert my DVDs into avi files for mobile playback.
And as far as a mess to implement and support, hell, my very first Casio Cassiopeia supported avi playback with TCPMP. So that's just a cop out as far as I'm concerned.
Yes, the program looks great and has many awesome features, but it just falls short in trying to think too much for me. If I wanted to be a "dumb" user and have a "smart" media player, I'd buy an iPhone.
the new version was just released maybe these issues were sorted out. how about you upgrade and let us know

New version has an advanced option add on that allows you select folders to be scanned. I haven't messed with it as my battery is dead but it sounds like it would help you.
