Hey guys,
I have a Qtek 9090 and I recently activated GPRS on my Mobistar account - went to one of their shops and had one of those freckle-faced amateur kids set it up for me and everything - then I had to manually enter the settings on my Qtek, no problem so far, but whenever I try to connect, it says 'connecting' for a while then 'No modem at above number'.
I tried a variety of combinations with the settings 'provided' by Mobistar (they're not exactly fine examples of customer communications), but nothing worked.
Here are my settings:
Modem: Cellular line (GPRS) - nothing wrong here, I presume;
Access point name: I tried 'internet.be', 'web.pro.be' and 'mworld.be', but nothing worked.
User name and Password: Both 'mobistar'
IP adress: Server-assigned
Software compression: Tried checked and unchecked.
IP header compression: Tried checked and unchecked.
Server adress: DNS 212.065.063.010, Alt DNS 212.065.063.145
I also tried every combination of authentication (PAP/CHAP) and class (8/10) settings. The thing Mobistar activated for me was their Orange World program, or something, where I have to pay a fixed sum of 6 euros a month, and a little extra for actual GPRS traffic.
I'm going crazy about this, I already went back to their shop twice and each time another smelly, greasy teenager fumbled with my Qtek for a while, could to NOTHING MORE than entering these same settings AGAIN (as if I was too stupid to do that) and tell me it SHOULD work. Sorry for the shouting... this is getting under my skin... I'm actually a nice person you know... 8)
I hate these kids, they do fine 90% of the time because 90% of the customers are even dumber... so they think they know it all.
Ok, I'm done now, it's off my chest. Sorry.
Any ideas?
An awnser from one of the greasy kids  :
Did you try as dns: 212.065.063.143
This is the information I used with a lot of MDA's with mobistar as provider:
APN:
mms.be (for Mobistar Friends and Optimum-customers)
tempomms.be (for Tempo-customer)
User ID: mobistar
Password: mobistar
Acces point name: web.pro.be
WAP Gateway IP: 212.065.063.143
MMS Server URL: http://mmsc.mobistar.be
 You greasy kids ain't so bad after all, thanks for answering so quickly.
Unfortunately, nothing helped, but get this: I talked to a very competent Mobistar Helpdesk guy on the phone today and apparently I'm not subscribed to their Orange World service at all! So the first kid, the one in the Mobistar shop that processed my application, is the one that messed up. I guess that greasy teen was having a bad day. Or I was, or whatever. Still, after talking to a number of other Mobistar people, you'd think they would have noticed this!
Anyway, I was told to wait another 48 hours until my request is processed, then I'll try again.
Damn, it's more fun totally hating a group of people, it sucks when some of them turn out ok!!! Guess that's what's wrong with mankind. 8)

Hi all,
fantastic site...... as everyone will agree.
I have unlocked my xda and stuck my orange bog standard SIM in.
it works a treat!!
This morning i have just upgraded my tariff to have a GPRS bolton (orange do all sorts of packages - as well as pay as you go GPRS (£3 per 1mb)
after a bit of head scratching a couple of phone calls to orange (very very helpful - even though they knew I had an XDA) I've got it working to its full potential - no error messages etc etc....
here are the settings you need to use - to save you calling orange:
APN : orangeinternet
DNS1: 193.35.131.194
DNS2: 193.35.131.195
baud rate: 19200
if you get the username and password prompt, dont enter anything and just press enter / ok...
and I think that was it...
anyway - hope this helped, if i can any questions give me a shout..
Cheers
J
Hi Folks, First post on here so bare with me. I have managed to unlock my phone which is great thanks to help on this forum. I have a vodafone PAYT Sim which I am trying to get GPRS working. I have scoured around to no avail. I have seen several posts on other sites as well. It seems the APN is pp.vodafone.co.uk and wap as username and password, this just isn't working on my phone I have also tried wap.vodafone.co.uk as well and a number of combinations I keep getting the error message 'No modem available at this number' or words to that effect? Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Cheers
Steve
you must be very wealthy as i was on voda payt and it used to cost £1 to load 1 webpage :?
you can get voda to txt you the settings off their website if you need them but I'd recommend you use a different price plan tbh
hi dmonik, ive tried with the guys at vodafone to not much avail, i am going to change network to easymobile they seem to have ok rates. Can someone point me to a beginners guide to these things. I want to learn about ROMs and how to get the most from my phone?
Steve
@steve43- for Vodafone PAYT- apn is pp.vodafone.co.uk , username is wap , password is wap. DNS 213.183.137.012
Oi..
The troubles I have been having!
I recieved my 838 Pro last week and have FINALLY gotten the internet/GPRS to work. I had been following the directions for the MDA on the tmobile website for how to get such things to work, but all I had to do was NOT use a proxy server.
But I cannot for the life of me get MMS to work. It wont send a message, it will recieve a notification that I have a message coming in, but will not download the attachments.
I'm in Boston MA (USA) if that helps at all.
ANY help would be very very nice as I've spent more than 9 hours with customer service on the phone with Tmobile and countless hours searching the internet.
Thank you.
Pretty please?
Is there really nobody in the states using tmobile with this hermes device?!?!?! None of you use MMS?!!>!>!??!
I just want to know your setup please.
here is the mms server info i have with my o2 xda trion under tmobile.
server name: T-Mobile MMS
Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port number: 8080
Server address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Connect via: (your data connection)
hope that works for you.
What are your settings for the data part? I already have exactly what you do....
Oh wow...
THank you so much... I had .050 at the end of my string and you have .50..
Guess what now works.
You've just solved something that their top tier of help couldnt figure out.
Now one more question for you..
I send an animated gif or a big jpg to myself.. when I get it back it's always a jpg and always around 5 or 6 k.. What gives?
I am using my Wizard on an O2 iPhone contract. Calls and sms are working fine but I can't get connected to GPRS Internet. The settings I am using are:
AP: idata.o2.co.uk
user name: vertigo
password: password
Anyone know if I can connect with the Wizard and, if I can, the settings I need to use?
Sorry if this has already been answered, I did search before posting.
After much fiddling and inputting and grumbling on my part,O2 finally admitted that GPRS is not supported on this mobile either as contract or payasyougo. They wouldn't say why.
Hello
I wanted to wait for the Legend but the small screen will be boring after a while, the Desire will be available here in Lebanon in one month since then I would lose 70$ of depreciation on my actual Aino(that I will sell) the Nexus One would be nearly at the same price for me.
I am extremly tempted to buy it but I have some questions first:
-Can we use WAP connection(old edge)?
-Is the screen so bad under sunlight? I hope it's at least better than 5800 and equal to Satio.
-Can we ''unbrick'' a N1 in case of bad flashing with cooked ROM?
- WAP isn't like Edge, 3G or anything. WAP is just the old mobile version of HTTP as i understand it. So the N1 uses HTTP rather than WAP.
(im happy to stand corrected on this though)
- Its fine for me, just turn the brightness up a little if its very bright outside.
- If its bricked then it can't be recovered (hence the name BRICKED). But if you do a bad flash you can restore a backup to revive it.
Opera Mini for Android is not in WAP format?
Pfft i dunno, im going off the default browser. Why would you want to use WAP anyway?
I hope your not thinking WAP = Edge. WAP is a protocol, such as HTTP. WAP is not a type of connection (e.g. GPRS, EDGE, 3G....)
Here's the connection config:
HomePage: http://m.alfa.com.lb
Bearer: GPRS
Proxy IP: 192.168.023.050
APN: wap.mic1.com.lb
Username: mic1
Password: mic1
so it can work with N1?
I looked on your carrier's website and their page doesn't give much information about the bands they use for WAP .etc.
Give customer services a call and ask them.
