Hello,
i want to know if the xda or smartphone has local IP by using GPRS connection, or the IP belongs to Telephone Provider?
My aim is to get the IP Address in Local.
Thanks
Try logging on to this link when you are connected to internet through gprs on your phone.

thank you, cruisin-thru
I think it is possible using a remote to get the IP, that the xda hat. But I want to know, after GPRS connection, if I can get this IP in the xda locally?
not through remote

Is it possible to use the XDA2 as a speaker/microphone on your PC via bluetooth? I use MSN messenger on my PC to talk to friends over a headset, it would be great to talk to them over the XDA2 around the house and possibly at work instead of using a PC headset.
VOIP on XDA II
Could you let me know if you find a solution for this?
I'll be very interested as well...
Hi David,
I'm half way there. As far as getting voice to and from the phone via the PC, I installed NetiPhone (http://www.polypix.com/html/english/product_pda.htm) on the PDA and used NetMeeting on the PC. It works fine. Just input the IP shown on NetiPhone into NetMeeting and you'll get a ring on your PDA
The problem I've got now is getting friends to connect to my PDA over the internet. I mean, my PDA has an IP of 192.168.0.123 (via my Bluetooth hub on my PC) and my PC has an IP of whatever my ISP has given me. How would someone connect to my PDA from the internet? I've tried [email protected]<MY INTERNET ISP> and it doesn't work.
Hey David,
Any IP with the 192.168.1 range is the default IP for wireless devices worldwide , AP and routers.
You need the IP provided by your ISP ( preferably a static IP, call your ISP for a quote they are not that much more than a DHCP IP) to be able to reach it from an outside device.

IP address 192.168.xxx.xxx is a NAT address. When you are behind NAT, you'll get a single way Audio or wont be able to connect. This is primerely because the VoIP software you're using works with H323.
Try using a software, which uses SIP (sesion Initiated Protocol), Then you might get better results.
Good luck.
As for me, I'm looking for a PDA H323 dialler, to dial out to a VoIP provider of my choice...

David
:x I cannot seem to get the VPN side of things working.
Has anyone tried a VPN using WiFi ?
I can connect to a WiFi Access Point and browse the internet. I then try to establish a VPN connection to my network using the IP address of the VPN Server, get prompted for the user credentials, and the XDA tries to connect and just doesn't, no errors. The VPN Server is working, as I have tested the same settings using an HP Ipaq 5550.
Any suggestions ?
VPN Fault
O2 Data Support have confirmed that this is a bug.. Damn !

I am in desperate need of Help!! Can someone walk me through all the correct router (Linksys WRT54G)/phone settings (Cingular 8125) for accessing Terminal Services over GPRS. I can connect through terminal services while at home on my wireless network by using my network IP address. I would like to have this feature when away from home. The PC I want to connect to has XP Pro and I have enabled remote access.

Well, for you to access it from outside of your home, you have to know the IP address your internet provider assigns you. And you most likely will have to enable port forwarding on your router.
To resolve my home network from the office, I use no-ip.org for a DNS forwarder. Bassically, myplace.bounceme.com always points to what IP my cable modem has. N0-ip.org is a free service, with a utility that keeps the DNS tables updated.
I have enabled port forwarding and I know the ip address provided by my dsl provider by accessing www.whatismyip.com.

So what is the problem then ?

Hello,
I am running a local web server on the laptop and want to phone to connect to that through a web page.
Would this be possible? Is there a way for them to network interface like this?
Thanks
Chris
Hmm I'm still kinda confused as to what your wanting but try this. Connect your phone to the network via WiFi and point your web browser on your phone to the web servers local IP. If this doesn't work add me at "[email protected]" and I'll assist you further

Hi X,
Yeah I have discovered I'll need the router for the DHCP assignment so they can communicate.
What I was throwing around was using tether to make a network between the two but without the DHCP server to assign an ip I can't see how its a viable way to communicate.
Thanks again
Ah I assumed you had a router. But yea that's all you will need and your set
