A while ago my Magician stopped notifying me of new messages. Actually, they do show up on the Today screen, but I never the the sound notification. It is definitely enabled in the Sounds & Notifications control panel, and it works when I press the play button there.
It is quite annoying to always miss text messages!
Anyone got a clue how to fix this?
Did you used Sprite backup for restoring your messages? I had the same problem. It's quite annoying, but with a Hard Reset the problem is solved. So my advice is that you should not use Sprite (if you did)
If you use pocket zen phone ... are the sounds also configured in there. The i-mate uses the pocket zen phone profiles, which overrule the standard windows sounds and notifications.
I had the problem not keeping a vibrate alert when receiving a text message.
But I haven't got any idea how the notifications can disappear. Maybe it somewhere caused by some software, hope for you it's the mentioned Sprite Backup.
No I haven't used Sprite Backup or Pocket Zen Phone. One day it just stopped working. Quite annoying!

I'm having a strange problem where my sms notification just won't happen.
when i recieve an sms, all that happens is on my today screen, the "no unread messages" will change to "1 unread message" (or whatever the text is), and thats it.
in my sounds and notifications screen i have it set to
1) play a sound
2) vibrate
3) flash the top right light indefinitely
4) display on screen notification (i assume this is the bit where it pops the bubble down with the message text in it)
it doesnt do any of this!
and it doesn't seem to make a difference if i turn off all the notifications, or turn some of them on, it still doesn't work.
it seems to have happened since it hard reset itself a couple of weeks ago... i dont think it's worked since then..

I've got the same problem, when I check sounds and notifications screen and tap the PLAY icon the notify sound sounds ok, I select another sound for testing.
Sending a sms doesn't trigger the newly selected sound.
Can someone post the registry hive to check if something went wrong in the registry?

I Didn't hard reset whatsoever.... so little difference.
In the end i think i fixed this by hard resetting again.. sorry! it was a few months ago now.
I have what appears to be a tricky SMS problem. My SMS today screen plugin and phonealarm both show when SMSs come in. However, when I go to Pocket Outlook to view the actual message nothing is there. This seems to have started spontaneously but I have a suspicion that phonealarm could have something to do with in. Any ideas for registry settings to check, etc.?
Set up Vario II yesterday, all appeared fine, installed all my 'must have' software and was ecstatic.
However, I discovered that despite having 'ticked all the right boxes' in options, a soft reset made all my texts (inbox and sent) vanish.
When I created a new folder in inbox to store read messages, and soft reset, this vanished too.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else?
Also, if I hard reset and then install a backup, will this re-install the problem?
Any ideas welcome.

I too have disappearing texts on my Tytn. It appears to be just sms messages that disappear and its very frustrating. Its possible it happens after a soft reset and if I havent opened the unread sms prior to reset - also I know its not for this topic but I have also found that my device freezes if I try and open my text messages whilst syncing with WMP. VERY FRUSTRATING.

how do you soft-reset? if you softreset using the stylus it won't write the txt messages and other settings to the memory. If you softreset using the on/off button it should write the messages to the memory. Hold the on/off button for a few seconds and press yes when the message appears on the screen!

All of a sudden my text messages don't disappear, in fact, ever since I installed Wisbar lite task manager, which has a soft reset button in the task manager.
On the Vario, holding down the on/off button only closes the device.
So, in conclusion, I reckon that on this machine (didn't used to happen on my old 2003SE) if you use the stylus to reset, then you lose texts, if you use another method then you don't.
Let's hope that's it.
I'm having a problem with my Sprint Mogul.
I get an alert every 10 minutes or so, but I have already dismissed all notifications and alarms.
Even went into settings and disabled sound and vibrate notifications for everything and it's still happening all day long.
I'm using DCD's 3.0.4 Radio:3.37.20

Strange problem. I sometimes get duplicates of alerts because I run an xml that writes alerts, but I never had a problem like your's. What I do is use dot fred's task manager to review the notifications and delete the items I do not want. You can also just delete all the duplicates in that program, but I doubt that would fix your problem.
Worst case scenario, a hard reset should fix it too.
I am having a problem where I am not getting alerts when I get a new text message. I have done a hard reset, gone into my sound and notifications settings and checked all that needs to be checked. Any help here would be greatly appreciated, this is driving me crazy.
SOLVED - I performed this hack last week and apparently it disables the SMS notifications. I just restored my registry and all is well.
