Possible to have ringtones assigned to SMS message notify? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I see there are nice ringtones (f.e. alien) possible.
But when I look to assign them on a SMS text message, I only get system tones. How can I use the existing tones or even add a wave of my own?
Oh, would it be possible also to have increasing ringtone volume and vibrate at once? That's very handy, because now I get a full volume tone, and it's scary, trust me
And vibrate is handy, when it's in your pocket...
My previous GSM phones had that option...Ah nostalgy

Put tones in Windows folder to see them in the list

where can I find the original system ringtones ?

any idea anyone?

its there... in windows folder..

What do you mean ... "it's there. In windows folder." Could you be more specific as I cant find it.

You have to convert it first to wav, then copy it to your xda Window directory ... then go to sound & notification and just look for it 8)

pactim,
the default notification sounds (WAV files ONLY) can be found in the /Windows folder. If you want to add more sounds to the drop down list in the Sounds & Notifications screen copy your new WAV files in THIS SAME FOLDER (i.e. /Windows).

Thanks guys
Thanks for your patience guys. Have worked it out now.

Sorry KTA,
I can't find the ringtones like Terestial, roaring guitar etc,... in the windows folder.
The only wav I find there is the only one I've put there.
Are you shure they aren't in an other location???

Yes they are in the Windows folder. I just checked again now.

How can i set a custom notification for my sms!?

i am a really heavy sms user and the built in sounds for the notifications are just way too short, so i tried to put a custom mp3 but the device wouldnt list it in the list of sounds in the settings->sounds and notifications->notifications
any suggestions to fix that would be highly appreciated
thanx
put a wav file in windows directory
You have to put a .wav file in windows directory, and then it will show on the sounds/notifications sms dropdown
maybe wma will work too (built-in sounds are wma) check it out and tell me
doesnt mp3 work!!! :s

How do I install ring tones

Ok, I did a fast search and not sure what I am missing. I have some ring tones that I want to use and converted them to .wma, but have no idea what to do with them. I dumped them in the windows folder, but that did not work. What am I missing? Chad
All you have to do is copy the (I assume MP3) to a folder under my docs called Ring Tones then they'll show up in the settings under "phone." Just select the one you want and you're good to go. Enjoy.
Well I just tried that and I still do not see them. I tried the my documents on the storage card and on the rom. Am I missing somthing? Chad
Not too hard to do. copy the file into the file "ring" this will be in the windows folder on your device. Once there you should see it in the list for your ringtones.

What I do is copy any ringtone such as MP3 or WMA into the Sounds folder inside the Application Data folder in the root and it works.
Also if you want to assign special sounds such as Alarm sounds or music you can copy WAV files into the WINDOWS folder in the root directory and they will appear when you try to assign an Alarm sound.
Another thing that might interest you guys is that you can even assign special slide out sounds with a program that I will provide to you guys, but it must be in WAV format. ( you can always just crop a song and save it as WAV. That is what I do * editing program not available here)
Hope this answered your questions

how to set my customed ringtones for Alarm or Text message notification

Hi there,
i have search in the full device, but i can't set one of my ringtones for text message notification except the stock htc ringtones, and i can't find a menu to set a ringtone for the Alarm ( my wake up morning alarm for example)
is there something i missed , or an application to manage this ? or may be there is a method to save ringtones ( size , format, during time of the audio file)
if somebody knows it will be great .....
Charles
for the ringtone for messages you need to go to Application Data\Sounds and paste your ringtone there. (MS makes it easy for you right? --> NOT)
setting the alarm sound can be done via start->settings->system tab-> clock & alarms.
From there on you can click on the alarm bell to select a sound.
As for the alarm, i'm figuring out that one myself. It seems no .mp3 can be used for the alarm sound. I think it needs to be a .wav file.
If anyone has a solution for the alarm, please post!
Use a great program on my xda2i called Alarmtoday. It's excellent, but today screen based... unsure how it'll work with tf3d.
I have also heard someone tout a program called ptravel alarm. I'm getting my HD early this week and I WILL be working on this so i'll keep watching this thread.
thanks for the path ...i will try for the text message sound ......
regarding the Alarm sound choice , it's really amazing that you don't a menu to pick you favorite mp3 ringtone and make it your alarm sound .... i'm an old iphone user but a 8 years nokia user , and i always had the choice .....
.... hope you will find a way for this .....

the Diamond has a program called MP3 Trimmer which places the file in the right folder, i'd heard the HD had this program?

yes it does
i'v tried with the wav file for my text message notification and it works if stored in Application data / sounds ...but i have shell32,exe error message .....
hummm not so good.
for the alarm issue: i converted an mp3 song of 3,5 mo in wav format and the result is a wav file of 35 mo !!!!! i think it's too big for just a sound file and i didn't try to store it and set ti as default alarm tone .....
seriously guys, check for a third party program like I mentioned,
I use ALARM TODAY and it is excellent. MP3 alarm is just one of many functions.
It needs to be in "wma" format, if you want to assign your own sound to the text/mail alerts its has to be "wma", iv tried "mp3" and "wav" but it never worked. "wma" worked for me.
Thanks for the tip ..... i will try in wma file format ......
i don't want to use many third party programs..... the device is unstable with lot of stuff installed on it ...i want to learn how to use the WM6 goods but it seems to be complicated for some simple things !!!!!
MS needs to hurry with their WM7..... it's not acceptable that setting a ringtone or messagetone is this difficult. I would have expected that if i choose the property of a mp3 i can use that mp3 to:
- set as ringtone
- set as messagetone
- set as alarm
- set as ...
How hard can that be?
i totally agree ...... i don't understand why this kind of device can't do what can do a 25 euros nokia phone .... it's nonsense .....
i've been using a program called audacity for my ringtones and for my messages.
Under 'My Documents' there's a 'My ringtones' folder - I threw all mine in there, although it seems that you dont necc. have to (have to say, it's much easier/better organised on WM6.1 HD - it was a little awkward on the Cruise)
It seems no .mp3 can be used for the alarm sound. I think it needs to be a .wav file.

I didn't know that - although - it has to be said that the alarm program in WM is retarded. I use my phone as my daily alarm clock, have for years - there's no PRACTICAL 'snooze' option in WM - anyway, my solution - SPB TIME - works like a dream (pardon the pun...) and the snooze buttons are nice and big enough, even for my sleep fogged brain...
ringtone alarm problem
Hi
I found the solution of problem ringtone alarm
You have convert sound files to wma format and copy in windows folder
Disconnect USBcable and happy this!!
Sorry my english
ringtone/alerts
i have been converting and using my own ringtones and message alert tones for a while now,
mp3 files work as ringtones if you put the trimmed down version (as only 30 secs is useful) in the /Windows/Rings folder
the message alerts and alarm alerts you need .wav files placed inside the /Windows folder itself.
i just use copy and paste from my PC in active sync mode to put the files there and then use the 'Sounds and Notifications' to assign them.
i use smallest wav file ie 5/6 sec for the alerts but longer versions could possibly work..
thanks
i have made a cab file with a few tones and each of these tones will be installed into the correct place for you to choose under the right heading
www.ourhtc.co.uk/l6cum tones.cab is where i have uploaded it to (7.5MB)
contains approx 5 ringtones and 4 alert tones
rather than using the phone memory for ringtones and other tones, u can create a "My Documents" folder on memory card and put all your tones inside there be it mp3,wma, wav or any other format the phone supports, then select them from "sounds and notifications"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466760
For calls:
Can place wma, wav, or mp3 in \My Documents\My Ringtones
Or:
Can place wma, wav, or mp3 in \Windows\Rings
For other sounds / alerts:
Simply place wma, wav, or mp3 in \Windows Folder
if you create a "My Documents" folder on storage card, out all your tones inside there, be it ringtone tone, mms tone, sms tone or even activesync tone, which is wat i did i added a modem dialup tone to active, all coming from the storage, i can more a less guarantee that they will work from storage card even its its wav the phone will pick it and use where its required. personally i wouldnt use the phone storage for any tones

I'm not debating that, it's just that there seems to be a lot of confusion and I am positive that the method I posted works...although it is probably better / faster to store tones on the device as data in device memory is faster read then data on the card.
The tones take up SO little memory that...there are no advantages to storing on the card, but you may have slight ringtone delays (disadvantage) if you store on card.

Message Tones Problem??

Hey everyone,
I was wondering how to change the message tone in the HTC Touch HD, to a message tone which i've downloaded over the internet
Thannks
Appreciated
look for a small program called ringo, it allows you to take small sections from your ringtone or song, and converts and sets them as either ringtones or message tones
Try convert those tones to wav format or wma format. and paste into -my device-windows.
and it will appear in the sound settings. cheers!
not nessesary
Hi. On the HTC Touch HD it´s not nessesary to convert the tones into .wave the phone can recoginize .mp3 files to
Just copy the .mp3 files to e.x. you memory card in "My Documents" - now you can change the sound in Start / Settings / Sounds and messaging
Not 100% sure on the names because my phone i running Danish language...
thanks! thats new to me. cos i'm a old xda lli user in the pass.
now HD.
Whoa! even works with acc m4a files! Great!!!
Sorry I know this is an old thread, but which folder do the mp3 files have to be put in for the phone to recognise them as a message tone?
(i cant understand the guys post above)

Ringtones being searched in media library..

Hi,
I have tried to set ringtone files properties as hidden to prevent them being searched in media library, but it seems that sometime the system setting will change back to default ringtone as the mp3 files cannot be searched.
Thus i wonder is there any method to hide mp3 ringtones being searched in library, but still can be found by system, like .nomedia in android...
Thx~~
Nobody knows...??
NO way found up to now, been searching too
There is no way; even contacting HTC, they just said to add all the songs you want to listen to to a freakin' playlist.
What I did to minimise things was set the ID3 tags for all the ringtones to be by a band called 'ringtones', in a 'ringtones' album. At least this way it prevents the ringtones from being listed under the original album/artist.
SOLVED
Use total commander or resco file explorer, set the folder with your ringtones or any other folder you don't want to have in your player to hidden. Take out your SD card, restart your phone, select the music tab, it should say no music found, unless you have files on the phone you want picked up by it, put your SD card back in, and restart again. select the music tab. This WORKED for me, hopefully it will work for everyone else.
