you need to redo all the connection settings again if you want to sync on the other computer with previous sync.
is there something i may have missed?
No, this is needed every time you switch computers and want wo synchronize via Bluetooth with both of them. There's a software called pocketmultipartnersync which is freeware. I'm not using it but it's said to allow unlimited connections and is freeware.
even if the other sync is usb cable and the other is bluetooth, you need to reconnect the setting.
With my XDA2, it can be done both ways.

I have an O2 XDAIIi with 802.11b wi-fi connectivity and a wireless home network. I can connect my XDAIIi to my network access point router very reliably and also my home PC laptop to the router but I do not know how to get my XDAIIi and PC to connect to each other via the router. I would ideally like to use wi-fi rather than bluetooth to connect Activesync for synchronisation. Has anyone managed to do this?
Also, how is it possible to synchronise your XDAIIi (or any other pocket PC) with your home PC remotely, e.g. from a wi-fi hotspot?
I've done this, works great, but an issue is, I understand, that ActiveSync 4 and beyond are going to remove wifi syncing. Eeek.
But, for now, from memory, I think you just set ActiveSync to "get connected" over ethernet I think (the screen where you choose USB, Serial etc). I don't think you do anything special on the PPC, although I might be mistaken. You do have to manually start activesync and choose sync though on PPC.
I'll have to check my settings when I get home.
Re syncing over public wifi: the reason AS 4 removes wifi syncing is because there's no security in it. So public syncing, although techinically feasible AFAIK, might not be safe. But, caveat emptor.
Sorry for being vague, someone infront of a router can probably tell you more, this is just to say it can be done!

Thanks for your reply. It's really good news to know it can be done. It would be really helpful to know a bit more about your settings when you get home. In particular, do you need to allow your home PC files to be shared/visible? Also, when I open Activesync on my PPC and click Tools there is only the option to connect via IR, nothing else, even when I have a Bluetooth or WiFi connection active?

I wrote a dutch utility how to connect Active Sync through Wifi.
I hope you understand it.
You need ActiveSync 3.8.
And it's important that you create a partnership between the device and your PC through USB.
http://www.leukbellen.nl/activesync/
Good luck.
Yep, listen to adewidt.. connect up normally through USB and activesync as normal.
Then, stick in your wifi card and ensure you can browse the net through PPC. Sort this out first.
Then, check activesync on pc is able to use "ethernet" on the "get connected" settings page.
Once that's happening, I think you just load up activesync on PPC and choose sync (where it says "sync" about 1/3 of the way down the screen on the left, click that). I think it then tries to sync over the network, ie wifi. Activesync on your PC should detect this and get to work.
You don't need to be sharing any files etc, and is not advisable on publically accessible networks like wifi. Also, ensure your firewall is correctly configured. I don't think you need to set anything in partcular for AS if you can already USB sync, but ensure you're using a firewall always when wifi-ing.

Thanks chaps. Yes I did just about manage to understand the dutch instructions and it all works fine. Very happy :-D
For the last two days, when I connect my K-JAM to a computer, ActiveSync connects. After a few minutes, GPRS connects, but not really.
ActiveSync looks like it is syncing, but it is not sending any records. Email accounts are not updating because it isn't really connected to AS or to GPRS, so neither works. I can also use PocketController (which uses ActiveSync) and I can explorer the K-JAM during this time.
This happened when I first got it and I don't remember how I fixed it.
Any thoughts?
Once connected to the Pc you wont be able to access the net via GPRS on your wizard. Regarding the problem of active sync not actually doing anything, have you ever performed a successful sychronisation, if not it could be that your firewall is interfering.
Do post a follow up and shall see what further can be suggested.

Yes, I have been syncing for a month with the K-JAM.
Unfortunately, that is the problem. I am not trying to connect to GPRS, I would rather use AS when connected tot he PC. It looks like it is connected to both, but in reality it is connected to neither. I have to disconnect, turn off the GPRS (which starts working when not connected to the PC) and then reconnect. I can then sync and within a few minutes the GPRS comes back. And it stays in the "in between" mode where neither connection works.
I don't recall installing anything new...doesn't mean I didn't though...perhaps something that is set to connect but isn't smart enough to use the ActiveSync connection?
It does that on my work PC and my home PC, so I am assuming it is something on the K-JAM and not something in the PCs. Both are running AS 4.1.
I know I had this before and did somethign to resolve it...but for the life of me I can't remember what I did.
When i try to connect to active sync with bluetooth it opens the port, and then says connecting on both the computer an wizard for a few minutes before just closing the connection. It never connects or syncs. Whats wrong?
Is this the first time you are trying to sync using bluetooth?
If so please disable all VPNs & Anti-virus and then try.
Also give the whole scenario and configuration you are trying to connect. It will be easier to troubleshoot.

This is happening to both mine and my wifes phones (both Tilt 2's-ATT data) with our gmails setup on the phones with imap settings. Connecting to her notebook or mine kills the email checks. Both running the stock WM6.5 roms with spb mobile shell 3.5, which seems to disable minila.
The errors reads, "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings tap settings"
Upon clicking on settings, MEDIA NET, This connection is preconfigured. It cannot be modified.
As for the rest of the settings in there, i dont fool with them or else i may lose more than this one issue.

Are ur phone is independently configure for gmail..?
are u trying to connect with pc and again sync mail of outlook/gmail with pc..?
If above is happening please stop one of above activity.
If nither is happened then please reinstall all your usb mobile drivers and try to connect through bluethoot.
I think The reinstall is nesesory because there may driver conflict so.

Check your connection settings in ActiveSync and make sure the "Allow wireless when connected" is ticked.
Gmail is configured independantly on the notebooks. I did all the settings manualy in the phones and also the notebooks. The sync settings we use are ONLY for contacts of outlook. Neither notebook has bluetooth, so that option is out
Allow wireless, on the xp notebook is checked. My notebook is down due to power cord failure, which is a vista system, and i will not be able to check that one until i get a new power cord.
Yesterday i was using the wifes notebook (xp) with my tilt 2 connected with usb cable and i wasnt sync'ed to it. It was connected and i could browse files on the phone, i could even browse internet pages with the phone, or connected to messaging servers via IM+, just cant check email.
I dont beleive i have anything installed on the phones that is going to create any type of network conflict. I just dont get why gmail cant go out to the internet to sync when connected to a pc, even if it is not sync. It was the same problem on my notebook if i was sync'ed or not.
Hello,
I searched the forum but found nothing...
is there a way that active sync downloads automatically new exchange stuff ONLY from a wireless connection (I disabled data) ?
no, not possible. Activesync only works with a direct cable connection, serial or TCP-IP, or bluetooth. The software is old and cranky and Microsoft has essentially not updated it in years and is stuck in a 2002 timewarp. They do not have anyone actively working on it, now Windows 7 connection manager may allow wi-fi, but I have not seen that to work either, as it is configured to work on with serial ports, USB or bluetooth serial. I have not seen wi-fi able to emulate a serial connection and that is what is required.
Maybe someday, but not soon, I am afraid.
More thoughts, if you mean getting email from your server, through activesync, yes that is possible, as you only need to open activesync connection settings and check the box to allow wireless connection while the device is connected. If this is what you mean, then yes you can.
Sorry, I think you misunderstood me, let me explain more clearly :
I'm speaking from my touch pro 2 mobile device, not from my PC
What I mean is when you have a working data 3G (or whatever) connection on your WM device, you activate push mail and tell active sync in the schedule options to retrieve emails, calendar, contacts whenever "item arrives".
Now, from what I know and from what I was been able to discover, this only works if, like I said, you have a working data connection.
Since I don't have any data connection, i would like to keep the same behavior but with my WM connected to a Wifi, in order that he retrieves stuff only when connected to a Wifi

I didn't find that setting (while im connected to a Wifi)
In active sync when I tip "Menu", I get :
Options -> there i can delete the sync profile or edit it
Schedule -> there i can say when to sync stuff
Status -> the status
Configure server -> same menu than "Options", but directly in the edit mode
Connections -> there it says :
When cradled
Synchronize all PCs using this connection:
'BlueToothActiveSync
'USB
Connect via Bluetooth -> bluetooth stuff
so please let me know what you mean with "allow wireless connections"
ho, btw i'm running wm 6.5 (energy rom)
Edit : I forgot to add that what's weird is that if i synchronize manually (also trough wifi) it works..so why isn't there some option to made it work automatically ?
I've seen that happen too - connect via cable with the wifi active and it will start synching, then disconnect the cable and viola - the tilt2 stays connected via wifi. but how to initiate the same connection without the cable, that's the great mystery.
auto connect with wifi?
