I have correctly configured my backlight auto turn off box and not ticked to go off when on battery power, yet it utrns off after 5 minutes. This did not happen before and is annoying when using TomTOM GPS etc. Anyone else have this issue?
I use PocketZenPhone and have created a profile for use with TomTom. No problem with the backlight at all.

I've got a HTC Wizard (T-mobile Vario - Dutch) with TomTom Navigator and have a problem with tomtom..
When using tomtom the blacklight stays on. Since i do not have a car charger the battery of the wizard is running low very fast.
The most ideal setting i had on my C500 (typhoon) with TomTom mobile. If tomtom gave me an instruction (for example turn right in 200 Meters) the blacklight turned on for 30 seconds an then turned off again. and so on...
Is there a possibility to get exactly these settings, or even just turn the blacklight off..
I have already searched and read about this topic on xda-developers but all the things i tried didn't work out..
Please help me with a step by step instruction..

dont thnk that you can get the back lght to turn off as a opton on the Wizard i have tred lookng everywhere
Whilest the backlight "keep alive" used to be an option in TTN3 i cant find any options for it in 5. the only 2 things i can suggest are:
Check your wizard backlight settings (start/settings/system/backlight)
And if its set correctly & set to turn off backlihgt after xx min then i'd suggest a "restore factory settings" in tomtom.
Mine definatly follows the wizard defaults, ie low brightness & then backlight off on batter, or full bright on external power.

Been playing about whilst windows updates, fraid i was mistaken.
If the backlight goes off before tomtom loads, it stays off (until you touch the screen & wake the device) but once TTN5 has loaded it stays at the settings the pda uses whilest awake (ie dim but on for bat or bright on charge). The only way i got the backlight to turn off was to turn it off in the backlight settings page.

I use Gps Speed Sentry and I'd like to have backlight always on when the program is running.
I'd like also to disable to pocketpc standby timer normally set.
GPS speed sentry has no options to do this. To disable each time backlight and standby manually is too long.
Is there a solutions for this problem?

it stays on using a car power adaptor - is this an option?
maybe a solution, but I'd like to find a solution also using battery power..

Anyone know how to get the backlight back to the original setting? I tried to go into Settings to Battery Icon and clicked on Backlight and adjusted it there but everytime the phone goes into sleep mode, the backlight always reverts to power saver mode and I cant see a damn thing on my screen. It is very frustrating...anyone know how to correct this problem? Am I doing something wrong???? TIA....M3
I have the same problem, but in my Wisard the problem happens when a soft reset is executed ... I was searching about it on the internet and I found that maybe the problem is an incopatibility between the fone and the SPB Pocket Plus backlight functionality ... I will try to uninstall the SPB to see what happens ...
Here's my backlight bug theory...
On the Wizard there are problems with any programs that try to change the backlight settings and often the result is they end up turning it off.
PocketZenPhone, PhoneAlarm and SPB Pocket Plus all have features to control the backlight (do you have the backlight plugin installed on your today screen?) that load at boot, or on the Today screen, and these seem to cause problems.
I use PhoneAlarm and have problems on occasion. Believe it or not I found the solution was to tell PA to set the backlight at 40% which it can't be set to on the Wizard (25% increments only) and it stops shutting it off. If I have it set for 50% (which *is* valid on the Wizard) it shuts it off.
Anyway this is my theory on the mysterious backlight bug, if anybody else has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them.

If you go to the backlight applet and check the Turn on backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped on both the Battery Power and External Power tabs you should be all set. Had the same issue after the last iMate ROM update and this is what fixed it.

weird thing here: Always when I awake the device after suspend, the backlight is off. I have PZP installed, but it's configured to do nothing to backlight or power, settings in backlight/power are to never switch off backlight, but suspend after 2 minutes.
Any ideas where else I could check?
after mr.clean update, my backlight auto set itself to turn off after 10sec no matter what i do

My out of the box MDA Vario did this too. I finally figured out that it only did it if I changed the brightness level from the default to max. If I left it at the default, it worked fine on resume...
before the mr. clean rom I had a standard vodafone one, and didn't have the problem. What is default level (steps from topmost) for testing?

it is caused by a software called vito audio note

which will uses its power saving mode to turn off Wizard
I had the same problem. Rebooting the device didn't fix it. But when I actually SOFT-resetted the device, it came all back to normal.
Backlight off on resume, not hardware
Hello everyone,
I've got a very frustrating problem. Here's the summary:
My backlight doesn't come on when I resume from standby. However, when I soft-boot the backlight behaves as normal. After boot, if I continue pressing keys to prevent the backlight from turning off, then it operates as normal. However, if the backlight times-out, or if I put it in standby, the backlight refuses to come back on.
Any suggestions?

Well, i finally decided I couldn't live with the dark screen anymore and Hard Reset my 8125. It fixed the problem, but now I have to reload everything.
Oh well, now will be a good time to upgrade my ROM I guess...

I have installed tomtom 6.0 and tried to fix the back light problem. I believe I have fixed the backlight problem, but now when I connect my himalaya to the cradle, the backlight goes off. And even when I run tomtom the backlight is off. Hard to see. Once I closes off tomtom the backlight comes on. Does any one have a solution for it?

Re backlight
This may be a bit obvious but have you checked the backlight options? go to start, settings, click on the system tab at the bottom, then go to the back light. Once you tap on backlight you have a few options turn backlight on or off on battery power, or the same when on external power, choose which suits you best. Hope this helps you
