I mate Jam (850) - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Okay me and my collegue bought two Imate Jams having the 850 band. The quality of the sound is horrible. Both when using the microphone (i.e. he is using his phone and I am on a land line, he sounds all garbled) or the speaker (high pitched metallic sound). I hate this. I have stopped using the maachine, even though i love it.

Tell us ur device info (Start-->settings--->System--> Device Information )
Do u have install the latest ROM Update with 1.10 radio ?

XDA II Mini speaker volume is too low

I just bought it in HK and quite happy, except the fact that the speaker (front) is very weak and i cant hear my friends (wife) during a call.
My ROM version is 1.03.00 WWE, Radio version 1.01.00
I heard there is a patch for this problem (that also takes care of a camera problem) . is it true ? where can i download this patch ?
Thanks in advance
hi you may want to check if you have adjusted the earpiece volume. when talking on the phone slide up the volume button and see if there is any improvement. to check for rom updates and patches. goto the O2 website.
It looks like you are using the original ROM that came on the I-Mate Jam. The new radio version is 1.05 and is much louder then the original radio.
Thanks.
Can you recommend where it is safe to download ROM ver 1.05 ?
radio 1.10 is more better because gprs problem is fixed.
what gprs problem? My gprs works fine?
Any way to make the speaker louder?
Yes, sell it and get a mobile phone. LOL.

T-Mobile UK MDA Compact and Poor Audio

All,
I recently purchased a T-Mobile UK MDA Compact and when I make a phone call the audio through the ear piece is very poor. The other person in the conversation keep getting a echo so they hear themselves repeating words also if they talk loudly the ear piece distorts. I took the phone to a T-mobile shop and they agreed with me and suggested I get a new SIM card which I did but it made no difference.
I also found that if I hold the MDA compact next to my ear with or without a sim card inserted and switched on I can hear some electrical interference coming from the ear piece.
I spoke with T-Mobile UK who said they was not aware of any problem but will send me a replacement. I have had 4 replacements now and all have the same problems poor audio and electrical interference and it is driving me mad now.
I used to have an old Siemens S55 and the audio conversation on that was so much better, it was like talking face to face with the person.
The only way I have managed to resolve this problem is too use my Sony HBH600 Bluetooth headset with the MDA Compact which produces much better audio. Has anyone else experienced these issues I am having?
Will a ROM update fix this problem?
Has anyone used the original i-mate Jam on T-Mobile UK and got these problems?
I spoke with a T-Mobile UK engineer who said the MDA Compact’s have downgraded audio in comparisons to other manufactures but in my opinion the audio is terrible.
Thanks
Msuk
Hi Msuk,
Its not just you. I believe the problem is with the unit its self. I did read somewhere on this site that the problem lies in the earpiece speaker itself.
The link said that it was of low quality. The author of the post replaced the internal speaker with that of a better grade and the was a marked improvement on the quality of the audio. This unfortuantly seems to be the only way at the moment to improve the quality. I belive he replaced the speaker with one from a nokia 6610 as it was an exact replacement.
Just looking for link......
found it :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18384
Hope this helps
It was me who replaced the speaker and YES a ROM upgrade to the latest ROM WILL improve the sound quality! So I suggest you first upgrade your MDA to the 1.11 ROM which is the latest (imate ROM seems to be the best so far) and if that doesn't help then try to change the speaker to a nokia 6610 one! But they seem to be exactly the same anyway! Just in some cases with the first T-Mobile ROMs the Magician was set to a very high volume that was making the speaker to blow up cause it could not handle the power load!
Thanks all, can someone tell me where I can get the latest i-mate 1.11 rom?
Thanks
Here is the link to the latest imate ROM http://www.imate.com/support/JAM/ROM/JAM_WWE_11100_132_11100.exe you have to unzip it to a folder and get the cracked MAUpgrade from XDA-Developers FTP, copy it to the folder you created with the ROM files and then RUN the cracked MAUpgrade and flash your T-Mobile phone with the imate ROM. In case you have problems the first time you try to upgrade then run again the cracked exe file and the second attempt will make it to the end of the upgrade procedure!
Hi,
Thanks for your response, when I upgrade my MDA with the i-mate 1.11 rom will I need to change the country code at all?
If so how do I do this and change it to what ?
Thanks
Msuk
Hi,
I am unable to connect to the ftp server could someone please send me the cracked MAUpgrade?
Also do I need to disable the USB connection in my ActiveSync before I run the MAUpgrade?
Thanks
Msuk
Hi,
I managed to get the cracked MAUpgrade but when I run it I get a country code error, does anyone know how I can get round this?
Thanks
Msuk
Hi katsj,
I have the MA_Dangaard_WWE_11100_129_11100 rom is there any advantage to upgrading to JAM_WWE_11100_132_11100.
And would it be better to do fresh install on all my apps or just restore from previous back. I'm not sure if restoring backups on a new rom will replace new setting and files the new rom upgrade puts in place.
Thanks
So, is there a point of changing the speaker if it is the same as 6610 one? Do I have to solder anything if I want to change speaker in my MDA Compact?
And what about the microphone? People who I call to, complaint that they hear me with triple echo?
I have a newest rom 1.11 for MDA Compact
Hi msuk,
I used this one it gave me no country error.

Audio quality ok for you?

Is it just my phone, or is the audio quality of the Jamin borderline acceptable?
I have this phone for 4 days now, having previously used imate PocketPc + Win2003
The sound for incoming calls is often distorted and sounds like some bad VoIp connection. Very often i have to tell callers to repeat what they say, but they hear me fine.
My ROM version is 1.0.9.25
ROM date 01/09/06
Radio version is 01.14.20
(BTW how do you display the ext ROM version for this device? It doesn't come up in Device Information).
Would a ROM update help?
Would appreciate feedback
Thx.
Mine is quite good compared with my previous PDA phone (iPAQ 6315), clear and loud. I am pretty satisfied with it. Maybe you should update your ROM?
I am using XDA Neo with the lastest JAMin WWE Rom.

Universal's A2DP Quality

Hi,
maybe someone can give me some info.
Have a T-Mobile Germany MDA Pro with the newest Stock ROM supporting A2DP.
Have board a brand new Plantronics Pulsar 590A Headset. It works, but the quality of the sound is very very bad with my Universal. I have also tryed the smal A2DP Sender, that comes packed with the Plantronics device and the quality is 100 times better. What is the problem? Can I adjust the bitrate of A2DP transfer in wm 5.0 registry?
The sound is a little much deep and on mid to hig frequencies, i hear a high frequencie noise.
Does anyone else has this problem?
This is not a problem of the receiving device.
Thanks for any help on this :`)
No Ideas?
Please Help!
I have the Qtek WWE ROM on my Qtek (latest official version). I use a Jabra bt620s, and i have no problems with it.
Maybe it's some obstruction of the signal? Do you encounter the problem when the Qtek is in clear view of the headset at a meter away?
I have the Motorola HT820, and finally got round to installing the Qtek WWE ROM today. Connects fine, I can walk into another room from the Uni and have no problems; But -
I also get a high pitched noise, particularly on music with lots of treble. It can be controlled up to a point by tweaking the graphic equaliser, but it is still annoying.
When using the HT820s linked to my Bluetooth PC and laptop, they sound superb - so it is a problem with the universal.
Thanks so far, i start hating my Universal ....
I think, there can be 3 reasons for that.
The Windows Mobile A2DP Software encoder, if it is software encoded.
The Bluetooth Chip, if it is HW encoded in Bluetooth.
The Radio ROM or Chip, if it is encoded on the Radio Processor.
I am not so deep in the Universal Technologie, but i know, that the sound was very clear on Blue Angel using the broadcom stack. So I think, it is M$ Bluetooth that makes the problem, but i am not realy sure.
... or is there anyone how don't has this kind of problem?
Hi,
I personally have never had that problem (which I interperate as "some form of noise" when listening to music over A2DP) you guys mention here, neither with my Motorola HT820's or i-Tech BluePRO's.
Only problems I have had with A2DP and my Universal is;
1. Pause/Resume button not working always in Windows Media Player (works fine in latest version of PocketMusic though)
2. Not automatic reconnect of A2DP when I turn headset on (only prob with the i-Tech's, Motorola's seems to work fine)
3. Occational drop/loss of sound for a second or two (have this under control now, only an issue for me now, when there is to much obstructions between Universal and my i-Tech headset)

Yes, that's realy evil ... I also have that. Reconnecting of Handsfree works fine.

This is a general Universal Problem. Maybe Radio Interference, maybe missing some CPU power.
The noisy and unclean sound can be a ROM Version Problem, if you don't have that. I have tryed also with a Linux Computer as A2DP SINK Client, and the sound is same bad.
That's my ROM Version Info:
ROM-Version: 1.30.113 GER
Radio-Version: 1.10.03
Protokoll-Version: 42.44.P8
ExtROM-Version: 1.30.223 GER
Windows Version is 5.1.195 (Build 14847.2.0.0)

Try downloading the latest PocketMusic version (if free for 30 days I think...so you'll be in heaven for 30 days at least), there it works perfect. ...it was enough for me to "cough up" the money to buy it!
And yes it seems to be every second time, and then one has to press button on Universal/Media Player once...bloody irritating...when the Universal is in the bag or something.

Yepp, I have exactly same behaviour (handsfree no prob, while A2DP needs manual reconnect with iTech's...but with the Motorola HT820's I belive it was automatic though)

For me I am pretty sure it is pure radio problem now (have tested with an app called SuperTask, and A2DP takes approx 20% CPU, and my JasJar now used a total of 40-45% CPU when I listen to music over A2DP with PocketMusic). I only have this problem when I have the JasJar in my pant pockets, are in an area I know there is a lot of interference+have some obstructions. Except from that it is fine now.
You can see this post on my "socalled test" (it was just a simple test, but it seems to give a good indication at least) of A2DP's effect on CPU here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=53717
You can see my (and some others) experiences with A2DP and some stuff we have tried to fix/handle it as good as possible;

I have no clue...do you have a Universal (I would guess so from that you post it here )...if so the HW is identical...so then...yes it should be the SW/ROM...since you actually have tried with another "headset" (your Linux computer). But I am sorry, that I am not much of contribution...if nothing else...I agree with your logic here!
BTW my ROM version++ is stated in the A2DP-test post I linked to above (don't remember the numbers...but I have the "latest QTEK WWE" ROM).
Thanks for your comments.
Maybe it's the T-Mobile Germany ROM that is the Problem. Have allready called the technical support at T-Mobile, to help.
Maybe they are ignoring me, but i have tryed.
Universal's blue tooth signal terrible
Look I had many imate devices and bluetooth sets. The Universal has a very weak bluetooth signal even with normal bluetooths.
I have tried 3 or 4 different bluetooth headsets and they all give me a max of 3 meters. With the Jam and pda2k with the same headsets I used to get 10meters.
I gues this is the reall problem you are facing, the bluetooth reception is terrible on Universal, try being really close like 40CM away and if the sound is good you will know that it is only a reception issue from the universal.
I noted the 40 ~50 cm distance problem when I reviewed my nokia hs-12w a2dp headset about a month ago, it is very irritating. I think it is to do with where the BT chip is placed !!! it is between the keyboard and the battery, from what I could tell of the exploded diagram on this site !! meaning it is surrounded by metal !!! not good .
PS I never have problems connecting my hs12w headset for audio use, however if I take a phone call, after the call has ended I loose AVRCP

How do you play sounds over bluetooth ?
I'm trying to understand the routes of analog and digital
sound data and how to control them.

Hi cr2,
yes I read about it in IRC Log. But what you like to do is, streaming sound direct to the bluetooth hardware. Universal hardware supports this feature. There are 2 Bluetooth Profiles implemented for, one is called "Handsfree" and one is calles "Headset" and ini Windows Mobile Registry you will find it if you look for "Audio Gateway". The registry values are also documented in the online MSDN Lib. I will post a link, later, if I find it.
What I am doing is A2DP, that means ... all stereo sound will be compressed in software and then send as datastream to the bluetooth device.
Have attached the A2DP specification. Under Linux there is a project calles "bluetooth-alsa", that supports A2DP and Handsfree. Look for it at sourceforge.net.

There are several options here. It can be sent directly
on some phones, or (theoretically) through the phone,
or even redigitized from the analog (for mono).

Software is not a problem. We need to understand
what the hardware is doing.

[Q] Do you have Bluetooth headset problems?

Hi there,
I have had very few issues with my headsets on WM 6.x devices before.
With my Quantum, I bought a new Motorola Oasis headset and RMA'd it for a new one due to this issue (which hasn't been fixed):
If I am not within 2 feet of the phone, my voice audio quality is terrible.
I can hear just fine. Outgoing voice is terrible.
It can be in my pocket, on a table, whatever. The connection is terrible once it gets out of my shirt pocket.
I have turned WiFi off, data connections off, etc.
Is the bluetooth radio in this phone weak?
I was thinking of removing the metal back and seeing if that helps.
Thanks,
TTFN
Gregg
OK, so this problem is still pretty infuriating.
Does ANYONE have a recommendation about a BT headset that would work acceptably when the phone is in my pocket?
I mean, it disconnects if I put it diagonally across my body.
Maybe my phone is bad? Both the new and old headset seem to perform similarly.
I'm currently looking at the Blueant T1 which appears to have a slightly longer range in some reviews.
I can't speak for headsets, cuz I haven't tried any yet, for any length of time, but I can tell you the Quantum works fine with my Garmin BT-enabled unit in the van -- no matter if the phone is in my pocket or on the console between the seats.
FYI, I'm not the only one with the problem with poor bluetooth performance.
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...formance/c4379403-464d-45a2-8750-e80ca8dc4d4e
It's still a mystery.
My car doesn't appear to fix the problem. I figured I had the ultimate BT headset now!

I have no problem with Bluetooth range in my Santa Fe, BUT, while I can receive incoming calls without issue, I can only make outgoing calls on the LG Quantum if the screen is unlocked (ie, on the live tiles screen or deeper). That seems like a flaw to me. My old LG Voyager worked while it was in my pocket for both incoming and outgoing calls from this vehicle.
I've tried what settings I think could have an impact, but the "take the phone out of my pocket and unlock before making a hands free call" problem remains.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks from a noob!
SOLVED?
Just FYI...
I sent my phone back to LG for repair after proving to their tech that it was a problem, and being unable to prove to AT&T it was a problem.
LG returned my same phone to me with the note saying they "Updated The Software".
Prior to sending it, I updated it to 7392 (because that triggers a backup in Zune). Mine was one of the very first LG Quantum phones produced.
The phone came back with 7390 on it and apparently different Radio ROMS.
I tried the phone out after getting it back and the Bluetooth issue is indeed much better. I think they updated the radio ROMs. Unfortunately I don't know exactly what they were when I shipped the phone off.
Here's the new version info (I ran the update to get back to 7392):
Phone LG Quantum (LG-C900) on AT&T.
OS Version 7.0.7392.0
Firmware revision 1.1.3.11
Hardware revision 1.1.0.0
Radio software 1.1.3.11
Radio hardware version 0.3.5.0
Bootloader version 1.5.1.0
Chip SOC Version 0.30.2.0
If I see it right, the Radio ROM version is much different.
The bad part...
The phone will not restore my Zune backup. So I think there is definitely a version mismatch somewhere.

i have been using my few weeks old (to me) used quantum in my car with minor issues.using the stock rom, volume was VERY low. restoring to an image here then upgrading via zune seems to have worked wonders in my car (alpine iva-w505 with kce-400bt bluetooth module)
then updating my car's bt firmware made it even better.
Could you post the radio / rom versions on your phone after that update (like I did)?
I'm curious where yours is now vs. where LG put mine after the service.
I wonder if I can upgrade my Subaru's BT stack? Hmm...
Os very 7.0.7392.0
Firmware rev 1.1.3.11
Hardware rev 1.1.0.0
Radio rev 1.1.3.11
Radio hardware 0.3.5.0
Bootloader 1.5.1.0
Chip soc 0.30.2.0
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
I think the radio ROM version was the issue on my phone then...
If I had done what you did, I wouldn't have had to send it away for service!
My radio ROM was older. I still can't get too far away from the phone before sounding like a Cylon, but it is way way better than it ever was.
And Mango makes the Bluetooth work so much harder that it would have been supremely frustrating to have it not working right!
Thanks for the ROM version post!
