I just got a tmobile sx 56 off ebay. It's locked! Even though they said it wasn't. I am new to all this so my question is if I unlock with xda special rom and then cook my own 2003 rom on http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
will my phone remain unlocked. I need to use it on cingular network. Do you think this will be an issue. its gsm and all that jazz.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
it'll stay locked
and this is a gsm phone so it'll work with any gsm provider. im using the AT&T phone on the t-mobile network
got the code from tmobile..so now it is unlocked. Now I'm looking to update to 2003. But alas I am a mac faithful. Is there anyway for me to do this. I move files back and forth using pocketmac?
rom 3.14.40 eng
rom date 11/26/02
radio 6.18

It says that on the page:
"XDAunlock only works if you upgrade to a ROM which also has the Wireless Modem feature."
4.00.11 ENG WM2003 does not have wireless modem feature
So, how do I unlock "4.00.11 ENG WM2003"?
Thanks,
Izzet
downgrade the s/w to xda developers v1.2
then back up to wm2003
gaz
When I downgrade to XDA Developers v1.2, it will have the XDAUnlock.exe and it will unlock the phone at startup.
When I upgrade to wm2003, wouldn't the unlock gone away?
once unlocked it never needs unlocking again lol however ,mch times you upgrade/downgrade your phone
gaz
thank you
unlocking
OK, so let me make sure I have this straight, so if I had unlocked my sx 56 with the xda-developer's 3.17 special edition rom, then later reimaged my sx 56 to the T-mobile Windows Mobile 2003
4.00.21 rom, my sx 56 will continue to stay unlocked?
Yep,
That is the way it worked for me. Good Luck!

Now I am using the rom 4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US from the kitchen, then I tried the xdaunlock.exe just to verify that it was indeed still unlocked, but xdaunlock.exe doesn't seem to run under the rom I stated above. Is there any other way to check?
yeah put another network sim in lol simple
Unlocking
OK and thanks for all the great help guys, smashing stuff going on here.
Hi,
Siemens SX56 Unlock
I would like to know if someone unlocked its phone by himself.
All we read is people from everywhere except with AT&T.
My ROM version: 3.14.03 ENG date: 09/27/02
Radio version 6.12 protocol 324e4
Frequency 900/1900 American model PW10B
Does the Rom Update 3.17 from xda-developers works with Rogers AT&T?
Can we expect our phone to live after that update?
Is the new ROM functionnalities user friendly? Would you rather keep the old ROM version both UNLOCKED?
If you got your SX56 unlocked, can you tell me what you did?
I'd like to have your comments on what you did before I do it.
After spending that kind of money, I wouldn't like to kill my phone.
So let me know how you did it and what did you need to update it.
I expect to get details from you.
Thanking you in advance!!!
The ROM has nothing to do with receiving the signal. It's the RSU part (Radio part of the device). ROM 3.17 should be fine with unlocking, but you may try this tool firls to keep your current ROM www.xda-developers.com\XDAunlock\
To determine the best RSU to use with your new network then you have to get some info about your device and the frequency of the network (900/1800 or 900/1900).
But ... get your XDA unlocked first then we'll see if it receives signal or not.
Good luck
I unlocked my Siemens SX56 from AT&T with the XDA Manipulator tool on this site. To use it, you need a serial cable for your SX56. I just made one. In reality, it would have been much easier to simply upgrade with the special edition ROM on this wedsite and use the unlock tool. The ROM upgrade should not effect the phone at all since it is the windows operating system and not the radio software (radio stack) which is a seperate upgradeable piece of software.
To be safe, just download your current ROM onto an SD card and then use a seperate SD card to upload the upgrade ROM. If you don't like the upgrade ROM, you can always restore the original ROM and the good news is that once your phone is unlocked, it's unlocked no matter what ROM you use.
Good luck, and upgrading ROM's using the SD method is really the safest way IMHO. You can find plenty of information describing the process on this site.
Panabax
I have searched this site (fantastic site BTW) but see a lot of conflicting statements (or at least it seems that way).
I have a TMobile MDA-I (US) PPC2003
ROM version: 4.01.16.ENG
ROM date: 02/04/04
Radio version: 6.25.02
Protocol version: 324e4
I want to keep 2003 but need to unlock the SIM. Is this possible and where is the information?
you need to "downgrade" to the SER ROM, unlock your machine, and then Restore back your ROM, or upgrade it to something else
What is the SER ROM?
what vresion to I have to downgrade it to?
Where would I find the software and exact steps?
Are they any issue with doing this?
www.xda-developers.com/SER/
or just try the unlock tool at www.xda-developers.com/XDAunlock/
Unlocking a T Mobile USA Pocket PC Phone Edition
All you have to do is call T Mobile USA's Customer Care and just tell the CSR you're going to be travelling overseas and will be using a prepaid SIM from one of the local wireless carriers over there. The CSR should be able to provide you with the unlock code provided you've had continuous wireless service with them for a minimum of 90 days and your wireless account is financially current. Cheers!
Thanks all, I like the overseas idea. Any hints as to places to travel where this is possible. I don't want to say I am going to the Bahamas (example) and have them tell me that the phone will not work there anyway.
Same Issue on PPC2003
I installed the SER and I'm still locked ("error finding unlock code"). Any ideas.
Radio Stack 6.25
SER ROM and XDAunlock or Manipulator cannot work under radio stack 6.25 (T-mobile USA) or A33 (Siemens AT&T).
I developed new tools to unlock them!
Cgigate, have you posted the new tools to unlock that version of radio stack? Also is there any way of using xda manipulator imei feature under radiostack 4.21 as it is disabled one it meets this radio stack, I assume the developers have good reason for doing so.

I cannot test radiostack 4.21 or any 4.xx (GSM 900/1800)(PW10B1).
I'm Canada , same as US, GSM system is GSM 1900.
I'm using GSM 900/1900 version (PW10B1)
Hi
I just bought a Siemens SX56 which locked to AT&T wireless. I want to use this on T-mobile network with Windows Mobile 2003.
I read through several threads trying to figure what is the best way to get to my final state.
I see people discussing about two things "Radio Stack" and ROM.
I could not figure out if the radio stack is provider specific. Did not know if i can just upgrade both with the AT&T ROM.
Here is my current plan. Please help me in making sure that i am not going to end up with a brick.
1. Unlock the devicewith XDA2Unlock
2. Upgrade the device to WM2003 with the Siemens AT&T executable from siemens web site.
3. Put my T-Mobile sim card and use it on t-mobile network.
Would this work ?. What is the best way to get best reception on this PDA with t-mobile ?.
thanks

1. Your device is XDA I ... so the right tool is XDAunlock here www.xda-developers.com/XDAunlock/ and it will work only if you still have the PPC 2002 ROM on yoru device, other wise you will have to flash your device with the special edition ROM SER1.2 from the forum here as well.
2. The excutable contains both RSU and ROM. If your phone works fine don't touch the RSU. Get a cooked WM2003 ROM from the kitchen here and flash your device ROM only.
3. Try and let's know
Good luck
I'm a bit of a newbie myself, however I've been playing with both a TMobile and an AT&T PPCPE for the last few weeks.
Why are you putting the AT&T ROM on the phone - surely it would be best to put on the TMobile version so that it would have all the internet settings, etc.
-=Nick=-
Thanks for the reply.
I read somewhere that if my radio version if A33, i will not be able to use the XDAUnlock utility. Is that true. If that is true will i be able to unlock using any other process ?
I will be getting PPCPE this week. I am excited to get it up and running with my existing T-mobile SIM.
thanks
Hey all
I just did the sim unlock and it work perfectly. Thanks!
But my question is what is this CID? and what does it unlock? What can I do
that to my phone if I run the unlock?
Thanks in advance
CID unlock will unlock the rom,
so you can update your rom with others than the official ones from the network provider you bought the phone from.
I would suggest doing this even if you plan on upgradeing to another rom from your same provider, b/c once you upgrade to a 2.x rom it becomes harder to do... (and once done it is permanent...)
What ROM upgrade would be suggested? I have a T- Mobile MDA primarly using Suncom network. And were would I find suggested ROM upgrade?
Get the 2.26 from the T-Mobile site.
How do you suggest getting the update off the TMobile site if I do not have a TMobile phone number which they request for the download. Is there somewhere else to get it or another way to get it. I also looked on the Suncom site for updates for the I Mate K Jam but there was none.
