from this link ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RIL )
I see that ril.h ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/ril.h ) was created from the information gleaned by analyzing the patent application linked to from that page.
"... At the European Patent Office, a patent application was discovered. In this application a detailed description of the RIL API was found. The description is detailed enough to create a working API from. ..."
does this mean that the ril.h available here ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/ril.h ) has the same function prototypes as the RIL API in MS Windows Mobile Edition 2003 ?
I don't have a phone to test with or I would try myself.
Can I create an app that calls these functions ( like tsril.exe ) and it will work for an off the shelf Microsoft smartphone as opposed to a HTC phone?
apologies if my language is incorrect as I am new to HTC phones, xda-dev, and smartphones in general.
any relevant information is greatly appreciated
regards
clh
This ril.h seems to be taken somewhere from Microsoft SDKs. I think it can be used on all MS devices. But you should test this yourself.
thanks for the info...
now to find a phone for testing.

I've build a version of crypto phone for PocketPC 2003. ( unsing the sources from www.cryptophone.de ),
with some workarrounds for license test.
I don't have two phone to test it yet. If anyone can test it please send feedback.
As i see it use data call as link layer so your provider must suport it.
PS: Who's testing it , please send feedback.
I've tested in my Qtek 2020, (XDA II, MDA II…).
Is it working? I was able to compile it too, but it died on exchanging keys.

Don't work. :-(
I have programmed 2 xda 1 with wm2003 and the crypto, it works perfectly. The only bug is the "file" bar vanishes after a call is placed or received, other than that its great. 8)
Can you post what you changed in the source file in order we could reply your compiled code?
The idea is simple, if we can have access to the original source code and can do the changes you documented, generating the same code as you, with the same hash value for the encrypted code, we can assure that your code have the same security of cryptophone.
dumb ?
what is cryptophone?
Hi,
i am very interested in this (or a similar) software for
the Wallaby or Himalaya platform.
Anyone here who has a working & easy too install binary?
(Or are there any real free & opensource applications like cryptophone?).
kind regards,
Ben
Has anyone managed to get cryptophone working on the XDA ??
... or find a similar program ??
Regards
There are several similar commercial projects. Just wait some time for their announcements.

Hi mamaich,
thnx for that prompt reply
I know about cryptophone.de, raseac.com.br & caspertech.com
Are there any others I have missed ??
Regards
John
2-3 russian companies are also working on similar projects. I don't know their sites.
cryptophone Somebody to compiled? for motorola smartphone mpx220 :?
one more company.
http://www.securegsm.com
and question - where is source download page on http://www.cryptophone.de ?
in general "cryptophone" application isn't difficult
- good vocoder
- some crypto
- good realtime data transfer - CSD for GSM network
- some audio components like AEC
could some one point me to good ARM implementation of vocoder with 2.4-4.8kbitps bitrate? ARM9(v5) PXAxxx ~100MIPS.
Free is preferable, but reasonable commertial offers are welcome too.
just a question,
isn`t it possible with the sourcecode of this software and the sdk for windows mobile 2003 smartphones to make a installer?
is very interesting, or?
is there any other software for ppc or smartphone avalable?
a free wm5 client for this should be awesome! coders go compile now!
is the encryption limited to "only" this version of application ?
- or is there some sort of standard ?

Hi, did you manage to get it to work?
I tried on my O2 xda... it hung on the key exchange part...
It concerns me that this program starts two processs, spcore.exe and ui2003.exe. I have not looked over the code, but can you tell me why it must use two. Furthermore once they are going there is no way to stop the spcore.exe. My guess is that if that process contains the thread that is waiting for tapi events, its stopping mechanism has not been implemented properly. If you want to make a thread that is waiting for the event for line state then when the user wants to stop the thread/process, the event interest needs to be reset. eg SetCommMask(hSerialHandle,0); ,but it must be done from the ui thread not the waiting thread because obviously the waiting thread cant do anything. Once it is set to 0 (as apposed to EV_RXCHAR for example) the waiting thread will finish waiting imeadiately.
I tried sending a message to destroy the window with no effect, I then tried using terminatethread to stop it but that did not work so it must be in an api call (such as waiting).
On my mini it starts up ok, and dose not interfear with the phone. I could not test the functionality because the only other phone I had with me was my xda and it dose not install corectly on that. No error messages on intalation but the icon in the program files is not shown properly and it fails when I try to start it.
guys where is all the wm2k5 stuff.
could not find it.................
Dear itsme,
I am a Software Design Engineer with Microsoft on the Windows Mobile product team. We recently discovered that your site has an unauthorized copy of our Windows Mobile 5.0 software. These files are proprietary to Microsoft, and include internal test items that are not intended to be released to the public.
Microsoft would greatly appreciate it if you would quickly remove and destroy these files from your site. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Hi,
is there a detailed specification for the HTC devices like for Nokia phones? There are some optional Java packages which not every manufacturer of mobiles implements, e.g. JSR82 (Bluetooth API), JSR135 (Mobile Media API), JSR179 (Location API) ... (http://java.sun.com/javame/reference/apis.jsp)
More precisely, I am interested in the exact Java specification of HTC Prophet and Artemis, perhaps also of a small smartphone with fewer features and less weight.
I believe this is a function of the midlet manager that your phone uses. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339579

Hi,
I have a fair background in various coding languages, and there are a couple of programs I want to try and build.
However, while I can usually pick up and understand a language quite easily the problem I usually find is a lack of knowledge of the objects available to make life easier and the functions which are available.
So far, I've sat around and got a setup which I think should allow me to write and compile WM5 applications and today plugins, but I have suddenly found I am missing that "thing" that made writing in other languages easier - effectively a "Cheat Sheet".
What I would appreciate from the other coders with experience in writing software for WM5 is a list of what windows or books you have open for reference when coding. Is it just MSDN, is there a specific page that you have bookmarked or do you just google for it every time?
Any further advice (like good compilers I might have missed) will also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I'd like to hear from others too about this..
So far, My buddies for development help have been:
1. Search in MSDN
2. Search in Google
3. Ask on xda-developers
4. Search in MSDN forums and usenet groups for pocket pc developers
5. A book (that i dont refer to too often) whose name goes smthing like "Programming for Microsoft Windows CE .net" by Douglas Boling (Its not for .net development, it covers native development mostly. Windows CE .Net refers to a version of CE)
6. I also have another book that i have not even opened till now. It is solely for .net development (which is not my forte). Its by Wrox Publishers. If I remember the name correctly, it goes smthing like "Professional Microsoft Smartphone Programming"
There is an exellent documentation on .NET & Native Code on MSDN.
Then there are samples as well, again on MSDN.
For a today plugin, there is a very good sample by levenum which u can easily find in this section of the forum.
For me its always been google & this forum, no boooooks !!!
or
www.codeguru.com
in most cases programming for pocketpc's is like programming for pc's
Thanks for the replies guys. I see what you mean, MSDN is rather good. I was beginning to think it was just WM6, but I eventually found the section on WM5 (which I am planning on coding for given my phone is WM5). Their Wiki also had some good info on it too. Don't know whether these will be my coding buddies yet though....

I'm glad someone else is interested. TBH I am surprised there is not a sticky at the top of the forum with this information in or a link to the Wiki for further details, but I could only find details of Development Tools on the wiki.

Thanks for this pointer. I found two (here and here) which look promising. Don't know if there are any I missed....
Just a small tip when searching in MSDN... add ce in the search pharse. For e.g., "ce WM_TIMER" will give you the CE related sessions at the top.
I like www.pocketpcdn.com - articles and code examples for Pocket PC and Smartphones arranged by categories.
Also www.codeproject.com has been helpfull at times.
New version V11 of C# IDE Mobile (MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS)
C# IDE Mobile is an application (totally free) that I've developed to be able to develop with C#/.NET2CF directly on the Pocket PC-Windows Mobile 5/6 (it doesn't require the .NET SDK, you don't need a desktop computer).
You can download the new version at:
http://www.geocities.com/hrowson/wm5_software/index.htm
or from my personal page:
http://www.geocities.com/hrowson/index.htm
MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS: This version includes a Windows Form Designer which greatly helps in creating your application's user interfaces. This designer is available in C# IDE Mobile via the menu "Tools/UserPlugin/ControlEditor" (and therefore works directly on the PPC). This greatly reduces the amount of written code for the application and allows getting a GUI very quickly (a few clicks)
This designer (free, like C# IDE Mobile) is developed by Jean and an introduction/presentation (although in French, but has some pictures to illustrate) is available here:
http://pagesperso-orange.fr/asnora/Control Editor/Control Editor.htm
This new version mainly adds the following improvements:
- Included new Windows Forms Designer (yes, you can a Windows Form designer usable directly on the PPC) developed by Jean (http://pagesperso-orange.fr/asnora/Control Editor/Control Editor.htm)
- Added support for compiled User Plugins (DLL instead of css)
- Added replacement File Dialog for smartphones on which the default .NET2CF FileDialog DLL is missing (this seems to be the case sometimes)
- Corrected issue with "Format document"
- Added support for user DLLs: You can now place your own CF DLLs (generated with Visual Studio for example) in the "UserDLLs" folder and call your functions within them (you can create your API for example in a native CF DLL and call these functions from your C# IDE Mobile code)

Just some infos....
Hi,
In fact there's a translation on Jean's Web Site for the Form Designer and also I corrected a minor issue with the autatic code formatting (there was an ASSERT in there, but you just needed to say "ignore" to the debug dialog, so it doesn't really matter, the version is now V11b).
Harvey
Great tool! Thanks.
Microsoft assemblies
This is certainly a very interesting tool and probably will keep me happily busy!! But I seem to have a problem that I cannot find relative info: I'm trying to access the camera through the Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Forms.CameraCaptureDialog class, but the type cannon be resolved. I have verified that the appropriate GAC dll exists in the Windows directory. I cannot find the class/assembly in the MS.NETCF index either.
Any hints?
Thank you!
ps. I'm on a kaiser with CF 3.5 and Schap's WM6.1 Beta Rom.
nicely done sir
Hi,
Sorry, I've only just seen the post about Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Forms.CameraCaptureDialog. As I post on a few forums I don't always see answers that come a long time after the posts, that's why I leave my email easily accessible on the web site... don't worry about emailing me, I'm not planning on building a "spam" database...
I'll look quickly, there's also a similar problem with DataGrid it seems. I think these are both the same problem and should be sorted out quite easily.
