File transfer from PC to SD card in MDA Compact, Active Sync

I cannot copy a file ( movie, MP3, text file etc) directly from my PC to the SD card in the MDA. In Active Sync I should do this using the Explore button, but when I press it I get the following error: "Critical Communications Services have failed to start. Try resetting your Mobile Device and connect it again". Well, resetting and reconnecting doesn't work, reinstalling active sync doesn't work and opening the Mobile Device icon in my Windows Explorer on my pc gives the same error.
So now I have to copy each file into RAM first and then to my storage card, but since most avi files are too big for the RAM, this is not good enough. Does anyone know what causes the error and how I can fix it?
You didn't mentioned if the issue is related to a single SD or not.
If yes, perhaps a card format (eventually from Windows Mobile) may help...
Bye,
@ngel
do you have a firewall installed? did you set the right permissions for ActiveSync processes?
SD Card Locked?
Hello there
Have you set your SD card to 'Lock'? I have tried transferrring to and from the JAM without any issues so far using both Bluetooth and USB activesync.
Moreover you did mention that you are able to sync, so its not likely to be an activesync problem either. Finally, if you have a desktop firewall you should probably check the settings on that as well - you may have inadvertently (or knowingly) disabled filetransfers of certain types.

It was the firewall...
Ok, I feel sooooo stupid right now!
Your remarks about the firewall triggered my memory, I use the Zonealarm firewall, and altough I had enabled internet access I had not enabled file transfer... After enabling that, I can now see the SD card in Explore. Thanks for your advice!
Cool
Good to hear that you've sorted it out. Funny I didnt have the issue with Zone Alarm or NIS, though...must check it out!

The problem was related to the fact that I had not allowed Windows Explorer to access the internet. After I adjusted that, file transfer through Explorer is working fine. thanks for the advice!

MS Reader Activation Problems NEED HELP PLEASE.

Hi all. I've recently downloaded and installed both the Notebook and PocketPC version of MS Reader, I signed in with my Passport activated the Notebook version but when I tried to activate my Pocket PC I got this error message [connected to the notebook via USB and synced with AS4.1 as a partner]:
You have an older version of Pocket PC which does not support Activation. Activation requires Pocket PC 2002 or later.

I have a dopod 838 AKU2.0 which is a WM5 device so this struck me as very odd. Have sent an email to MS but haven't received any help yet so I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience and if they know of a workaround. Thanks in advanced.
When I prepared my XDA mini S for vacation, I had the same problem. No activation possible.
Anyone made the same experience?

Damn...with issues like this no wonder people just download and install cracked version of MS Applications.
@bnycastro
You tried the best that you can....if I were you, just search for a [email protected] or [email protected] and run the program.
This is MS's fault, so screw them
actually ms reader is a freeware application. activation is done to ensure that the ebooks that you purchased are tied to your device [or passport account]
Get another reader
The support you get from Microsoft is worth the money you pay for MS Reader - i.e. nothing. It is shocking even for freeware. They write this stuff to tie you in to MS stuff they charge for which is OK, except for when the support is rubbish.
Get another free reader that really works - Try Mobipocket it even has an RSS feeder on the desktop.
I had the same problem. Apparently is quite common and it has to do with a certain oeminfo.xml file you should have on your \windows dir.
Check out this PocketPc Junkies forum:

Some of the participants are MS Reader developers and will help you. That's how I solved my problem.

Thanks for the tip! Have resolved the issue with the help of a MS Reader Team Member in PPCThoughts forums. I wonder why MS did not include activation built in; if most Ebook sellers require it anyway  what is the extra process for?

It worked for me...

Citrix ICA Client

I am trying to install onto my JasJar (Storage card) the Citrix ICA Client but it won't install. After selecting the storage card, I get the licence agreement. After a few moments I get the message that it cannot be installed, choose a location.
Any help would be appreciated,
Regards
Ralph
did you try installing it in memory and what happened then?
i installed citrix client on my qtec9090 on wm2003, on wm5/tuma1.3 both in memory and on storagecard. No problemo
Works fine for me, HTC Universal and installed on Storage Card
At last i have been waiting for some else using a citirx clinet on a Universal
My problem is that when i connect to our citrix server to view secure work web pages it displays the page aa a small postage stamp sized window in the top left of the Universal's screen, the same as if accessing the citrix web pages through a desktop
Any one got any ideas on settings etc
I have now managed to install the client but when I open the program I get an error message " The file Pnagent cannot be opened"
I have not upgraded my rom yet so will try again after the upgrade.

Windows Mobile Device Center

I using the Vista RTM and Office 2007 now, But I cann't sync the Contact and Calendar with my Dopod 838Pro. Because in the Sync Centre I only can sync with media in the setup.
May I know the Windows Mobile Device Center can support Outlook 2007?
Problem Fixed!!
After install the Beta 3 of Windows Mobile Device Center instead of the RTM, everything work and sync fine!
Are you able to now Sync media to the device (or, more specifically, the Storage Card in the device) via WMP? I was able to do this w/ AS 4.2 and WMP11, but seem to have lost that functionality in Vista w/ WMDC b3.
-Lee
Yes, I can do this with the Beta 3.
I have racked my brains trying to sync my media to the storage card.
I have Vista Business (volume license msdn subscription) and I sync everything fine with exchange etc, but I havent found any option to sync music to the storage card, only phone memory.
Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Ronny
i have this problem too on two vista machines with my 8125. i can't figure out what is the problem. its really making me mad!!!
In regards to WMDC, the official release WMDC 6 is out now for download.
Also, in regards to syncing music to the sd card, you have disable advanced network functionality in your pda USB option to see you Sd card via media player on your pc (problem is, without the advanced checked on, transfer rates are as slow as a floppy drive)

Softick Card Export 3.0 and your Hermes work or not?

http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/ is supported the hermes but
my O2 Trion hermes100
Rom: ATT Cingular 2.15 AKU 352
OS: Vista
wont work!
how about yours?
It's not really that useful. If you have a Hermes connected, you can access the storage card directly to begin with if you have ActiveSync:
1) Go to 'Mobile Device'
2) Go to 'My Windows Mobile-Based Device'
3) Go to 'Storage Card'
It functions almost like a normal card reader (save some ActiveSync translation that happens). The usefulness is limited, because the Hermes severely hampers the speed at which you can transfer files (1MB/sec due to USB 1.1 limitations). You'd be better off using a separate card reader so your MicroSD cards can be written and read at their full speed.
the card export 3.0 works on my softbank x01ht!
Go to Start-->Settings-->Connections-->USB to PC
there, untick "Enable advanced network functionality"
and then Soft Reset. It worked for me this way...
