Hi!
Is there anyway to insert an icon or its shortcut into the 'Start' --> 'Settings' page?
The reason is that my Voice Command icon disappeared after I install a new program or that it could be due to my auto registry cleaning process by MemMaid, Pocket Mechanic etc. However, the program is still there and in the Buttons I can still see Voice Commmand being assigned to a button.
Thanks

Is Voice Command still there?
Yeah, dont use Pocket Mechanic to to clear unwanted Registry files.
there is 3 registry files that belong to Microsoft Voice Command which is not intended to remove even though Pocket Mechanic prompted the files has no use anymore.
I experience myself, and i did posted some explanation and i cant find the link.
probably under Microsoft Voice Command
RE
Hi guys!
I just uninstalled and reinstalled my MS Voice Command.
After that I cleaned using Pocket Mechanic. No problem encountered with MS Voice Command.
However, I suspect under the right circumstance Pocket Mechanic is the cause of my MS Voice Command to cease functioning on a couple of occassions
I'll be back in no time on this thread again. Thanks everyone
RE
Hi!
I spoke too early and I'm back now.
Earlier, after cleaning with Pocket Mechanic, MS Voice Command still works. I guess it worked because it already was loaded into the memory.
Then after a soft reset it cease to function.

Yes, its there. Its just that the voice command icon in the SETTINGS screen has gone
If Pocket Mechanic is the real culprit I think somebody got to inform Anton Tomov (the developer) about this so that a fix can be made.
it may not be the cause of Pocket Mechanic, it could be Microsoft.
You should know Microsoft always wanted to control Apps Protocol which i think that way.
Well. maybe you wanna try the latest Pocket Mechanic 1.52.
RE
I have an explanation but not sure if its right.
I'm using the uograded version of MS Voice Command v1.5 and Pocket Mechanic v1.52
First, you install v1.0 - v.1.1 version of MS Voice Command then you upgrade to version v1.5
Now, when you run Pocket Mechanic it looks for bad file links, uninstall cabs etc.
Here's the problem. I suppose v1.5 MS Voice Command still depends on the links of its earlier version which are considered bad by Pocket Mechanic. Hence, running PM causes MS Voice Command to cease functioning when some of its earlier version links are removed.
It should not happen to a software undergoing an upgrading (not new install) process. For other programs that have been upgraded running PM after that has no effect on the later program. In this instance this does not happen to MS Voice Command.
How's that?
Ok, probably, let me explain how i make Microsoft Voice Command(MVC) work for me.
I have MVC v1.0.
Steps.
1. Install MVC v.10 (By default, the path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Voice Command)
2. Go to settings, double check whether is the app version v1.0.???
3. If Yes, go to step 4.
4. Uninstall MVC v1.0
5. Soft reset
6. Use Pocket Mechanic to clear all the bad links until no bad links are shown
Note: Do not uninstall MVC from your DESKTOP, leave it alone.
Next
1. Soft reset PDA (this step is up to you, i did)
2. Install MVC 1.5(upgrade version downloaded from Microsoft site)
3. During installation on DESKTOP.
4. Change the path to to MATCH the install path with MVC v1.0
5. If you dont, the path for installing MVC 1.5 will be (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Voice Command\Microsoft ???????? ???????\US Version)
Note: you have to change the path to match the installation path with MVC 1.0
6. Completion of installation into PDA.
7. Soft reset
7. Launch Pocket Mechanic
8. Like i have said, before you install MVC v1.5, i believe Pocket Mechanic has cleared all the bad links.
9. so now, you will only see 3 bad links which belongs to MVC.
Done, enjoy the apps.
Ops, hope i dont get into trouble with so clearly explanation partial hack.
RE
keithhiap,
The problem doesn't lie with the MSVC installation process as you mentioned that only 3 bad links will be finally left behind.
The problem comes when you perform the same upgrading or install/uninstall other programs.
When you run PM it'll find many more of such bad links and, well, your MSVC bad links will not be distinguishable with the rest. Removing the bad links incidentally will render your MSVC to cease functioning.
ops, forget to tell you my MSVC is although 1.0, but upgrading to v1.5 is not possible.
Why, is it because 1.5 is intended for US version only
Like i have said, even though my version matches what microsoft mentioned. as long as you are holding 1.0, you can perform upgrade 1.5, but for my situation , i cant.
No idea
that y , i experience such installation way, in order to make my upgrade works
RE
My MSVC is v1.01 and upgrading to v1.5 is without problem
i wanted to purchase 1.5 full version, but too bad, not avaliable for Asian.
that y i have said Microsoft is controlling, forcing people to use alternative way to break through such as Piracy.

I have a new (four days old) Cingular 8125, and it got a bit antsy on me today.
After working flawlessly for three days, I was installing some applications on a new 1 GB mini SD card, soft resetting after each installation, when it returned after a soft reset and suddenly had no phone network. No "E" indicator, and an exclamation point next to the signal strength indicator. Uh-oh, thought I, before I broke down and cried! OK - not really, but I definitely wasn't happy about this!
When I checked the network settings, it said No Network under the GPRS setting. I called Cingular, spoke with a data rep, and performed a hard reset. (Had to use the "Clear Storage" app - holding the keys and soft reset wouldn't work). As soon as it returned from the hard reset, the Cingular software the rep had pushed out to me installed and phone service was restored. Which is a good thing!
But now I can no longer sync the device via Activesync 4.1. Nor can I install any applications; when I try, I get a dialog saying that the installation was unsuccessful. Windows installer or CAB installation, makes no difference. I can't successfully install anything on the device. I had scrubbed the mini SD card, except for a few folders filled with icons for use mostly in Pocket Informant and PocketBreeze. I figured that it couldn't hurt to leave them there. I also can no longer delete files or folders from the device. It's similar to not having Administrator rights on a Windows XP machine. As if everything is read-only, but I cannot change it.
I copied Smartkey over to the mini SD card via Explorer in Activesync, but whenever I reset the device I get a dialog saying that Smartkey cannot run, unknown developer, etc. I can't close the dialog right away, but it does disappear after about 30 seconds. If I open File Explorer and tap on the smartkey.exe file it does start and work normally - until the next time I soft reset.
Activesync will connect with the device but will not sync. Throws the attached error message. So I can explore the device but not sync. I tried deleting the partnership, performing a "repair installation" of AS 4.1 - no change.
As for the applications I had installed prior to all of this, they all seem to be benign - with two possible exceptions.
In Main Memory:
Pocket Informant
PocketBreeze
ContactBreeze
iLauncher
On the mini SD:
Resco File Explorer 2005
PDAMill's Gamebox Solitaire, Gems, and Classic
Dinarsoft's HandySwitcher and HandyMenu
Phatnotes 4.7
ListPro 4
Tweaks2k2
Resco Sudoku
Resco Keyboard Pro
All versions that claim to support WM5. All applications seemed to be working fine, with the exception of Resco Sudoku and Resco Keyboard Pro. The only change I had made with Tweaks2k2 was showing the time and date in the taskbar. Resco Sudoku locked the device up, with just a black background and 13 large colored orbs on the screen. I uninstalled it immediately. Resco Keyboard kept giving error messages when I tried to select it as the SIP. I had just uninstalled Resco Keyboard and performed a soft reset when it returned from that reset it had no phone network. Note that all of these applications had been working fine up until this point in time, except Resco Sudoku and the Resco Keyboard Pro. Hmm... Needless to say, I suspect that the Resco apps have a problem with WM5. But I owuld think that a hard reset should have cleared up anything those apps had done. Maybe not, though.
Anyway, that's when I called Cingular. Does anyone have any idea at all as to what could be causing all of this? Or better yet, what could fix this? Please!!
I'm very familiar and comfortable in WM2003/SE, but I'm completely new to WM5, so I'm not even sure where to look for troubleshooting.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
EDIT: Really sorry the thumbnail is so small - I didn't think that it would be, Click on it to read it. Thanks again.
EDIT: Error should read: 0x8000ffff Sorry about that.
I think the fact that you cannot delete files/folders on the device is key. If you cannot modify folders, then the installer can't either, so software installations will fail. Does this also apply to files and folders on your card? I'm guessing that it does not, and that your supposition (key folders and perhaps registry keys are RO now) is correct. Unfortunately, you can't modify folder permissions using activesync explorer and you can't install an application that can either. Catch-22.
Have you tried a hard reset subsequent to your discussion with the Cingular rep? Perhaps this will re-create an installation with the standard settings.

No, I haven't hard reset again yet - I wanted to wait and see what responses I get.
I did, however, find one of the Activesync logs though, and all sync attempts since the last one that worked have the following two error messages:
"TraceToFile -> ERROR in CChangeTracker::GetMaxCounterInProfileCleanupTable : hr = 0x800ffff - ctapi.cpp(3695)
TraceTraceToFile -> ERROR in CRAPIDevicePrivate:HandlePackets : hr 0x800ffff - RAPIDevicPriv.cpp(443)
And then some whcih are very similar, but with the numbers in parenthesis changing.
Look familiar to anyone?
Thanks.
OK, I just found a Microsoft KB article (Q243349) that seems to indicate that an 0x08000ffff error is Microsoft SQL Database-related.
??? Baffling.
Actually I do have an MSSQL Server on my PC - one of the programs that I run installed it and requires it. Maybe if I disable it?
EDIT: Error should read: 0x8000ffff Sorry about that.
I just noticed that wherever the errors start throughout the log, the only two applications mentioned - other than Activesync, of course - are Resco Explorer and Ilium's eWallet, which is really odd. I never installed eWallt on this device, though it has been giving me fits on my AximX50v ever since they introduced SyncPro about a year or so ago.
My 8125 is up and running again.
I performed a hard reset and this time I downloaded and installed AS 4.1 on my notebook and tried synching with that. My notebook does not have an SQL server installed, and it's a "virgin" AS install - neither Resco Explorer 2005 nor eWallet Pro has ever been installed on that PC.
I can't say for sure, and I'm still investigating, but I believe, based on the Microsoft KB article that I referenced above, that the SQL server on my desktop PC, and possibly eWallet Pro and/or Resco Explorer 2005, is the cause of my recent grief.
The MSKB article specifically targets the SQL database - same version as mine - as a known cause along with certain databases, and since both eWallet and Resco Explorer 2005 are mentioned throughtout the WCESComm.log, always in the first four or five lines of the error messages contained in the log, I suspect that eWallet's DB may have somehow triggered the mayhem, as their SyncPro has caused endless losses of my eWallet data since Ilium introduced it. It's possible that Resco Explorer 2005 just happened to be the application I had just installed before the device went belly up for a bit there. Actually, Resco Keyboard Pro was installed right after that, but since RE 2005 is mentioned in every error log item, and since Resco has a special page on their site mentioning how "...an issue with the way that Windows Mobile 5 handles installing software that may result in a failed installations...". I've written Juro about the issue, to give him a heads up just in case.
So all is well for now. Hopefully I will be able to continue synching my other PPCs (five), all with WM2003/SE, on the desktop, as the SQL thing is only supposed to affect the WM5 OS.
If anyone else runs into a similar situation, please send me a PM or post here. I'd be glad to share whatever I discover on this, and I would also be interested in seeing how other devices were affected, common issues, etc.
i will give credit to risidoro for this one.. and im lazy som im just going to copy/paste. original post can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1079560&posted=1#post1079560
This new MIDlet Manager comes from the new HTC Herald ROM, version 1.2.405
This new version is JTWI 1.0 compliant and SUPPORTS Google's SATELLITE Maps (of course, you need to download Google Maps' client from www.google.com/gmm
This release also supports sending SMSs from Opera Mini 3.0 (mini.opera.com)!!!
Some Details about the program:
Developer: Intent
Name: MIDlet Manager
Version: 11.1.7.1023
Build: 20060907
JWTI v.1.0 Compliance!
------- HOW TO INSTALL ------------
- download the zip archive from:
Risidoro_Intent_MIDlet_Manager_v11.zip
- extract the cab (inside the archive) somewhere in your PC (e.g. Desktop)
- copy to somewhere in your PocketPC (e.g. \storage card)
- in your PocketPC, navigate with File Manager to the cab and tap on it to install
- when asked, choose to install in the Device (and NOT in Storage Card!)
- reboot when asked
PS: It can be installed over previous version (or in roms where the old midlet is included)!
-------- COMPATIBILITY ---------------
So far, i've only tested it with the midlets i use the most.
- Google Maps runs fine. Satellite maps are supported!!!
- Opera Mini 3.0 runs OK too and supports SMS sending. Even softkeys works! Photo blog feature, however, is not supported
- Mobile GMaps, beta 1.30.08 http://wap.mgmaps.com/ simply wonderful. Sat images for google and yahoo maps.
Does this replace the MIDP manager suplied by default on the phone? Can I use both once this is installed?
(I'm using an Orange branded M3100 with the Intent Midlet Manager, v10.1.7.559 if that matters. I guess thats the same on all hermes devices.)
Thanks,
Sam

Interesting good info.
Couple of ever so picky things shogunmark, a couple of the links need attention the www.google.com/gmm). one needs the ). removed from the end and the (http://wap.mgmaps.com/): one needs the ): removed.
My obsessive compulsive personality disorder forced me to point these out.

Wowz! Great news! Thanks! I post a link to this thread to all PPC forums / my blog!
Congrats on number 4 Shogun!
I hate to high jack a thread but...
Is there a launch command to put at the end of the .exe file to lauch to start the midlet manager and launch a midlet.
Found my answer and here it is incase anyone else wants to launch midlets from a shortcut. Works for me on iLauncher.
jmm.exe -r"suite","vendor","name" runs Opera Mini and Google Maps for me.
If I try to put the whole line in quotes "name, vendor, name" - it doesn't launch the midlet - only JMM.exe.
You can run any midlet that you have installed. You can find the parameters such as a midlet name and the exact vendor name in Application Data\Tao\intent\app\jam\midlets\midlets.db. I just repeat the midlet name instead of the suite.
Just installed 11.1.7.1023 on my 8525. I first got a system message "access denied"... Oh yeah... I guess I should close MIDlet first
2nd try (once I had a cup of coffee and turned on my brain) install went A-OK. Opera Mini gave me an error and would not connect to anything. I uninstalled the midlet and re-installed and now everything is working. GMaps is faster than map4pda. Softkey functions work as advertised. Thanks for this update!
Install failed
I tried installing it on my MDA Vario II and received the following error
"Installation was unsucessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions." Any suggestions?
Thanks
Richard

Hi,
I don't know if some body knows about it, but soft keys function is replaced by the following keys in the stock version of JAVA VM from TyTN.
Left Soft Key = Q
Right Soft Key = P
I did a search but I didn't find any related to this, then I'm posting this info.

My experience,
I just installed it JVM, Google Mail worked fine, in previous version it just do not retrieve the mails, this new can get them but... When I pop the menu it returns an error.
Gmail stuff is still a buggy app for this JVM.
About the rest, I mean, Soft keys... all is OK.

i havent had any major issues with the gmail app, i did run into one buggy issue but havent had it since.. but i wont call it a solid app yet, everything else has worked great for me, soft keys, etc
I made an easy way of replacing the Calendar app in Mobile Shell 2 with your own prefered application. Once you create a shortcut you can switch between the default Calendar and any application of your choosing.
I made it as simple as possible to add your prefered Calendar Manager, I use ThumbCal. As downloaded, the script is setup for ThumbCal, but to change it all you have to do is edit the first 2 lines with a text editor.
LIMITATIONS:
NOW SCREEN support is not currently possible, as this would require a major hack of the Shell Program itself, I am not skilled in that and it would most likely violate licensing anyway. I have searched the registry, and disected the "XML" files, and determined "Now Screen" support will not become available with the the current version of Shell. My appologies.
1) Version 0.02 only changes the application on the "Menu Launcher" screen, and breaks extended menu features such as "Add New Appointment" from the Mobile Shell Menu. Once ThumbCal Supports these extended features from external apps (rumored to take place in next release), I will release a dedicated version for these features.
2) Version 0.02 Does not change the default calendar from the Spb Mobile Shell "Now" screen, this is planned for a later version (under R&D).
For use with SPB Mobile Shell 2 only, for Windows Mobile support see this thread.
MortScript is requied, download it here.
I hope you find this useful!
To use:
1. Download and unpack the ZIP file.
2. Edit the first 2 lines in the MSCR file, notepad works fine for this.
set AltCalendarName, "ThumbCal"
set AltCalendarPath, "\Program Files\ThumbApps\ThumbCal\ThumbCal.exe"
3. Copy to your device, and make a shortcut.
4. Click the shortcut and answer the "Yes or No" question.
5. Repeat step 4 to swap between the two calendar managers!
Change Log:
v0.02: Changed dialog error.
thank you very much
Great idea. Can't wait for this to support the NOW Calendar
Any updates on the next version?
Only update at his time is that I have been very busy this week, and have not had time to research this much. So far it looks as though version 0.01 was not effected by the spb upgrade to v2.1, as it still works after upgrading to 2.1.
Nice job!
Hoping the solutions for Now Screen to come early.
Can I try to use other Calendar apps than ThumbCal?
Hello
First of all:
I Like the work NiteStalker has done (using more off his work).
Anyway, SPB has a little CAB files for integration with PIMs (and yes, also the now screen):
More info: http://clubspb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7794
I didn't test all this program's, but they are from the creators off the software so I think it's worth posting it
I tested it succesfully with my Wizard WM 6.1 with Mobile Shell 2.1 & PocketInformant
As copied from the site:
"
Spb Mobile Shell 2.0 offers an API to third party developers to integrate into Spb Menu and Now Screen.
Integration module for Pocket Informant, Agenda Fusion and Agenda One is available as a separate download.
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/downloads/mobileshell/SpbMenuPlugins.cab
Please download it to your Pocket PC and install to get full support in Spb Menu and Now Screen (<- NOT SUPPORTING NOW SCREEN, sorry for the mistake).
Information about integration with Extreme agenda is here:
Not tested anything off this:
http://www.birdsoft.biz/forums/viewtopic.php?t=663
Download is here:
http://www.birdsoft.biz/spbBirdsoftXA.zip
Even themes are aviable for Extreme Agenda:
http://www.birdsoft.biz/xamsthemes.zip
"
So, there are 3 files:
1 - for Pocket Informant, Agenda Fusion and Agenda One (CAB file)
2 - Extreme agenda (ZIP with EXE files to run on PDA)
3 - Extreme agenda themes (don't know exactly look on site i mentioned above)
I've attached them in this post.
I've played with these, and was unsucessful in integrating the now, even with the ones they claim to support. Please keep us posted about your progress, thanks

aww that sucks. Hmm
[EDIT] Nevermind, found it under the Menu>Organizer>Calendar. See I knew I was dense!
Hey NiteStalker,
I really appreciate your hard work on these Mobile Shell scripts. I have (what seems like) a dumb question.
Since there is no NOW screen support (yes I was able to read that ), what does this script do for Mobile Shell? How would you use it with Mobile Shell?
Sorry if I am a bit dense
Thanks again.
Under organizer>calendar is changed to thumbscal.
should we send a request to SPB ?
because - i'm sure they want informations how to start the app: and which paramter for starting the actual apointment, aso .....#
how can we help whith my knowledge ... ?
any news? Does it work with SPB MS now?
Perhaps interims solution
1. i had installed PocketInformat 2008 Trial-Version.
2. installed the integration module for PI
3. test it in Now Screen
4. copy all files from ../ThumbCal/*.* to ../WebIS/PocketInformant/*.*
5. rename PocketInformant.exe to PocketInformant.exe.alt
6. rename ThumbCal.exe to PocketInformant.exe
hope this helps until another solution is out.
ppcfox
That's an excellent tip and worked fine for me, although I had to rename ThumbCal.exe to PITab.exe to make it work.
I also found that after I'd got ThumbCal into the PocketInformant folder I could then un-install PocketInformant to save some space.
I've found that after installing PocketInformant and the spb cab you can change a couple of keys in the registry to get ThumbCal to run from the Now screen without having to rename the .exe
Set these two keys to the values shown:
\\HKCU\Software\WebIS\PocketInformant\InstallDir = \Program Files\ThumbCal
\\HKLM\Software\Spb Software House\Shared\SpbMenu\Now\Pocket Informant\FileP = ThumbCal.exe
Just got my Jade. It is even better looking IRL than it is on the pictures.
After turning it on for the first time it starts installing some default applications. One of these apps is the "Cyberon Voice Speed" application. Because of this application I cannot install Microsoft Voice Command (they won't work side by side).
Does anyone know how I can remove this application or how I can prevent it from begin installed (I did try resetting just before the installation of the standard applications)?
I did try removing the Cyberon registry keys and application files. This didn't work. The device won't allow me to delete the files from the windows directory nor does it allow me to delete the registry keys.
* First, it’s to say sorry if my English looks not nice to you guys, I’m from Thailand.
I’ve an experience so far with a problem whenever I use Windows Live Messenger coming with standard/official ROMs (my own Mitac Mio 702, HTC Touch Pro 2 & HTC HD2). After fresh boot (soft-reset or even hard reset), opening and signing in the messenger are just fine. But it will last not more than 6-10 hours as it would be noticed that the messenger is automatically signed off or it (the messenger) may be frozen with its last session screen. And then the next sign-ins will not be success and an error widow shown on screen saying something like it couldn’t connect to internet service. And now, you need to perform soft reset in order to make it work again.
If you ever have the same situation, my trick written below might be helpful to you. If you don’t, just skip this thread.
* However, the solution is at your own risk.
I’ve noticed that the WLMService.dll or the Windows Lives Service is the key problem. Somehow, it causes the services.exe crashed/reset as you will see that the memory usage of services.exe is about zero. Normally, the services.exe should be about 2-6 MB in normal operation since your phone started. You can check the memory usage with software like MemMaid, I use FdcSoft Task Manager.
My own solution is as follows,
1. Kill the running Windows Live Messenger and any related programs. (I use FdcSoft Task Manager for doing this.)
2. Close ALL Windows Live items on the Today Screen.
3. Remove any startup programs related to the Windows Live.
4. Kill the running WLMService. You may need to stop the auto-startup and soft reset once. (I use FdcSoft Task Manager for doing this.)
5. Get into the registry and DELETE the following root keys;
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\Windows Live (anything related to Windows Live)
HKLM\Services\Windows Live
* You need to ensure that all keys said above are really deleted. If some item couldn’t be deleted, please re-do the step 1-4. You need to ensure that the WLMService is not loaded.
6. Install Windows Live 10.6.0034.0800 on your DEVICE (not on memory card). This version seems to be old, however, I’ve tried the newer versions but they did not cure the problem. Beside, I like this old version since it allows me to copy the typed text shown on the chatting screens.
Installing the Windows Live forces you to soft reset. But then your HD2 (or other win-mo phones) may not need to do soft reset for months like mine.
Thank you for reading & thanks for all things I’ve learned from here.
