hi all. i don't care much for photo caller id but i do care alot about ringtones. I found this app mtux ringtone and it is ok (can set via categories!!! you don't have to do it one by one) however it uses the default windows\rings\ folder to keep it's tones. Does anyone know how to hack it so that it looks at the folder i set in soundcategories\rings ??? Is there a registry hack to do this? thanks in advance.
ok if no one can hack mtux ringtone so it looks at a diff folder and doesn't copy tones to windows\rings\ can anyone hack IA Caller ID to set tones via the categories database of the Pocket PC... I mean it would make sense right? all your business contacts = one tone, all family contacts = another tone. then you wouldn't have to set up groups and assign tones 1 by 1... I don't have IA Caller ID on my JAM since it is such a pain to setup. any other alternatives??? my main concern is tones (tones in another folder not windows\rings -- RAM is so precious) not caller pics.

Is there a way to assign ringtones based on category with the HTC Wizard (IE: Friends get ring1, family gets ring2, business gets ring3, etc.)? I have found a way to assign the ringtone for each specific contact, but that can be a pain when you have a large number of contacts.
Thanks in advance,
You can do that with Photo Contact Pro!
I don't think it is possible in default WM5
Doesn't mortring do that, free?

How did you do that?
shdwphnx, How did you assign ringtones by contacts?
Thanks

Edit your contact, and scroll down about 75% of the screen - there is a Ringtone option there. At least there is on my US T-Mobile MDA.
BTW, which field is used in Outlook for Ringtone? Perhaps it would be easier to assign the ringtone on PC and then sync it?

I just found Mortring, and it is unfortunately currently not compatible with WM5.

As far as I have been able to determine, the Ringtone field is not transferred to Outlook on the PC.
Hopefully Mort will update his program, or someone else will release something similar for a reasonable price. (I found a few such as Photo Contacts Pro, but they all have lots of features I don't need, and am not willing to pay for).
There is a nice app that does excactly that, i've tried it out on my k-jam and worked very well, assigning ringtones to groups and even sms tones to groups or individual contacts and still keeping the default sms notification tone!
However (there always are howevers)
Before installing the app, when i would receive an incoming call and just wanted to silence the ringer, not reject the call i'd simply slide the volume button up or down and the ring would stop.
After installing it i could no longer silence a call by the volume button, therefore my only options where to answer it or reject it.
I contacted their support team and was told that it's not possible to silence the ringer as the app's ringer is controlled by the system volume, not the phone volume..
If you're quite happy not having the option to silence the ringer of an incoming call, then i recommend trying this app.
Product Name: Ringo Mobile WM5 (by Electric Pocket) .
Hi - i can assign custom ringtones for incoming calls.. but not for text messages.
Anyone know how i can change this?
Thanks guys.
(Running on XDA mini S with ROM: 2.16.9.1 WWE)
Place the wav/mp3 etc you want assigning to an SMS tone in the Windows directory, these will then appear in the list for assigning to SMS/Alarms etc
i have tons of wavs in that directory that do not show up when i try to change the notification in Sound Notifications. Anyone know what im missing?
have u tried place the wav to \windows\rings\ ?
PS:the wav files should be within certain bitrates.
yup... if u do that it will work for incoming calls... but NOT FOR TEXT MESSAGES... still haven't figured out how to for texts
I've placed some MP3s in the Windows directory on the device and it works for SMS's. Not sure about wav files though.
how are you assigning the sms sounds? through "sounds and notifications"? cause if i place an mp3 in the windows directory, it does not show up as a selection. i assume it can only read .wav
Hi,
New to all of this so go easy on me !!!
I want to know if it is possible to change the Alarm tones and Text tones (other than those supplied on it) .... ie. for adding new ring tones I have just put them in /windows/rings ... however, when I look for the alarm/text tones they sit in /windows .... whenever I put anything in there it does not get recognised in the settings under 'notifications' etc.
Make sense !?!?!?!? Anyone help ?
Cheers
Rob.
Adding ring tones for notifications(alarms and events)
just add any wave file in windows folder of your mobile it appears as ring tone in notification for alarms and other events
Does anyone know any good free sites to download various ring/notification wav files? I have a bunch of files that I've obtained or clipped from songs/etc, but it would be nice to see what else is out there.
Several Programs can set mp3 as sms tones, such as photoalarm, ringo mobile, etc...
Could someone tell me how can I do it with my own code? My machine is a WM5 one.
Thanks.
one thing you can use is http://www.fmod.org/
Just Copy the Ringtone/SMS-tone in "My Dokuments", so you can use it as Ringtone and SMS-Tone.
Hi people, I've an HTC TP2, and I was trying to set a ringtone for a callers group. I've seen there's not this capability...
Is there a software that can do it?
tnx in advance, Giovanni
+1
I need this also, or at least - on my treo 700wx with WM5 and treo pro WM6.1 I had known and unknown caller rings
I use Pocket Informant and it allows you to assign ringtones to groups by filtering your contacts via category, then selecting all contacts and assigning a ringtone to them all.
It's a handful of clicks but I don't do it every day so find it quite useful
Beh, I could try to develop it... Anyone wants to help me is welcome!
Do you know where contacts are stored?

Search for MortRing. I've been using it since my Prophet days...
In TP2, TF3D needs to be disabled to find the icon in home... I didn't understand also where to add categories...
Is there something more update?
tnx

Yes, initially when u set up mort-ring, you have to disable tf3d. categories are defined in your contacts list. If you set "A" as family, "B" as work etc, it'll appear in mortring.
After you set up mortring, you don't have to touch it anymore. It'll run in the background hidden behind tf3d

Fortunately, Tone Manager is You can use it to assign a ringtone to all entries belong to a Category.
To set a contact to Category on TP2, you need to edit your traditional Windows Mobile Contacts and not your TF3D interface. The most direct way is by:
Start > All Programs > Contacts
Note you can assign a contact to more than one category.
If you have opened your entry using address book from People tab, you can access Contacts by clicking "More" at the bottom of the entry.
An alternative is to your Contacts in Microsoft Outlook on your computer, then sync it back to the device.
hi
Freeware vipringtone does this job excellently, category, individual contact ringtones etc,. Just a search away from you. if you couldn't locate it, send me msg and I'll post the cab. Been using it since WM5 to WM6.5 works fine.
