If you put two devices on to charge (XDA or XDAII) and whilst holding one, touch the other with the back of your hand, you get an electric shock!
Also I've just started playing around with an FM transmitter in my car and if the XDAII is charging I get stupid amounts of noise which makes the music almost unbearable to listen to... if I unplug the XDAII charger the noise instantly goes and the music is crystal clear... anyone else experienced anything like this or have any suggestions of a fix?!?
I have a Brodit car cradle for my XDA2 which has a built in charger connected to the cigarette lighter in my car. I don't have any background noise or static / interference when it's charging. Only the occasional search n scan noise as I change cells to different cell sites.
Might be an issue with your particular unit, though I didn't have my 1 together with the 2 long enough to test the charging thing you experience. Have you tried interchanging your 1 and 2 for someone else's unit (if you know someone who has)?
Cheers
Anthony
Yeah... I work for a company who develops software for XDAs for the courier market so we have loads of them lying around... the charging shock thing happens with all every XDA I and II i've tried... no idea about IIs since we aren't using those yet...
The noise in the car could be from the charging unit I guess, which is one of the reasons i decided to stick a post on here to see if anyone else had experienced it!

This happened to me with my baby walkie tolkie (that device that you can use when the baby is sleeping to hear sounds from another room).
I got a grrrrrrr, sometimes yes and sometimes not.
Only after a while I understood that the fault was of the standard XDAII transformer, when my qtek was charging. So I stopped to charge my qtek when my newborn is sleeping
I suppose there is a problem of electromagnetic compatibility with the standard charger. I will have a look at which EN regulations it should comply with, just for my curiosity...
just curious u might wanna try summat like http://www.sexualshockfantasies.com
Yep. Also got a tingling sensation when I picked up a call with the charger connected and on! Had just come out of the bathroom bare-footed on porcelain floor.

Heyz,
While charging my HTC HD, I answered an incoming call. It was then an electric shock strucked me on my ear when the speakers touch my ears.
Does anyone else experienced this? or is my set faulty??

Haven't experienced this sounds like you may have a faulty device or you have a lot of static electricity built up in ya!!

Static. If it was dodgy, then it wouldn't be a single shock but a constant tickle on your ear. You had grounded the phone with the charging cable.

I got my diamond replaced several times for this reason.
I found the prolem was a metal casing and no earth!
To replicate the problem, plug in the phone and hold it to your ear by the plastic of the charger cable making sure your only contact with the conductive part of the phone is your ear.
The phone will ground itself through you and you will hear a buzz and feel a tingle.
It is not really dangerous and will not cause any damage, however, it is really annoying!
I haven't yet experienced this problem with the HD, but that said I haven't spoken into it whilst it's been charging yet (The HD's battery is way better than the Diamond's).
I had the same problem with my Vario III. Put it down to static
I guess some people has more static than others.. I beg someone will not call whenever i'm charging my HD...
This has nothing to do with the casing of hd.It's simply static mate and it's not dangerous.Yes i agree it's anoying though.
I had 2 issues not with my hd though. The one i was trying to pick up the sugar from the table and as i had touched the vase it hit me and it sparked out on me.
Couple more minutes after i tried to open my ps3 to play some resident evil 5 and it hit me again.
I am sure i build up a lot of static.

Does it happen with any other devices you connect to that same plug ?
Another typical hint prior to touching an electronical device, i.e. usually when you work with its insides, is to touch a properly grounded object in your room, e.g. the heating.
Furthermore, I guess a proper case would reduce the risk of being electrocuted, the silicon one seems to be ideal IMO but I'm not an expert in such matters (anyone here please ?). I use the PDAir alu case, which has some neopren inside the case...
Finally, if this does not get any better to you, the idea would be to configure a profile with one of the profile tools which upon connection to a plug would automatically turn off the phone function so that nobody would be able to call you while your phone was plugged. I understand though that this would significantly reduce the usability of your phone...
So I have an audio out cable in my car, and when I have pandora or slacker radio running it skips half of the song, or my voice dialing starts up and my music stops. Really annoying.
I don't hit anything on the screen, or any buttons... It does it on it's own.
Anyone having this issue?
Anyone have a way for me to fix this?
Mine does the same thing, only reason I won't buy Pandora for more hours. Always tries to do it's 6 allowed skips. I've even had it try and dial someone. Only thing I've found is turn off the screen, don't use blue tooth, and that seems to help...after the 6 skips!
I use slacker and I have not experienced any issues like that. It actually works flawlessly for me unlike the other streaming radio apps that rebuffer constantly.
I have almost everything disabled on my phone except 3g to maximize battery life.
I use Pandora with the radio out cable in my car and I have noticed no issues other than the normal buffer issues I have when driving through areas with low signal strength.
I played Pandora for more than two hrs last night and it worked perfect
my wife and i both have the htc incredible and i know exactly what u guys are talking about. cause my wifes phone does the same thing. but "knock on wood" mine doesnt do it. when we have it plugged into the car jack it does all sorts of strange things. and she had told me about it and i laughed at her and said ohh u just dont know what ur doing. but i saw it for myself this weekend. and so i tried mine and it was fine.. so i dont know if its some setting or app thats causing this issue or its a hardware issue. but if someone knows the answer please let us all know.
What's happening is there are 4 contacts in the headset jack... standard on a phone, but different from a regular mp3 player. Shorting some of the pins together is how the phone works with a headset that has a button in it.
The cable is likely not getting a great connection, maybe its not plugging in all the way or something... Whats happening is that occasionally it is shorting out and then not shorting, which causes it to think someone pushed the button on the cable... Maybe try taking the back cover off and then try it, see if it still happens...
Another thing it could be is if the back cover isn't quite on all the way... the first ring of the cable is attached to the back cover, then from the back cover to the phone through that metal ring in the cover... maybe its a bad connection there... but easiest to test with the back cover off.
Ok, so for an update (a little late i guess)
I called Verizon, and it's covered under my 30 day worry free. I'm going to be getting a brand new phone, so hopefully it doesn't have the same issue.
is there any way to disable the voice dialing, or any type of commands that are sent from that shorting portion of my line-in area? I just don't want to uninstall the voicedialing.apk
Maybe a little more help for you
I was going to mention the same about the cable control connections, but here is somthing else that might help: I noticed that my plug has a rather large outer rubber jacket that is interfered with by the car cradle, a plug with thinner or maybe shave yours down so it does not rub the car cradle hole will help.
Yep, I HAD this problem, then noticed it was doing it while playing mp3 also. Then I noticed whenever I moved the cord it would start acting up. I plugged in my head phones and Pandora/mp3 everything worked so I bought a new audio cord. It now works perfect!
i think you guys are all on the right track with this issue. cause i was in the car for a while this weekend "heading to disney" and i was messing with it some more on my wifes phone and i noticed when i plug her phone into the headphone jack. it shows a icon on the top of her phone as if it was plugged into a headset. and when i plug mine into the same cord it just shows a headphone icon.. but like it said her icon looks like a headphone with a mic on it.. so i think vilord is on the spot. im going to have to go home tonight and try my wifes phone without the back cover on it and see if it works. if it still is messed up then im thinking its just a faulty headphone jack in the phone. but she doesnt want to take her phone back cause she doesnt want to have to reinstall all her stuff on a new phone.
Ok guys my headphones (Meelec M9P) make static when I plug them into my phone. It's starting to get really annoying. When I plug it in I hear static that gets worse when I touch the screen, but it reduces drastically when music or sound gets puts through it. My Jetblue $2 airline headphones (no mic) don't do this...
This happened on all roms, but I'm running the zomg not my dog build of Froyo.
The reason one pair of headphones does it while the other is because the one that does hear static has a lower impedence than the one that does hear static.
But the explanation behind it getting worse when you touch the screen is similar to the what sometimes happens on old PCs with cheap integrated sound. Sometimes you can hear static, and hear more when moving your mouse or when your CPU load is high. It's caused by something like signal interference within the hardware, and there's nothing that can be done... which is probably what's happening to you.
I'm using Head-Direct RE2 earphones, but the impedence is high enough that I don't hear static.
Sorry, but I think there is nothing you can do to remedy the static =/
Just did a quick search: indeed, your impedence = 16 Ohms (source), mine = 32 Ohms
This happens to me too, its really annoying and makes the phone feel like a piece of $hit!!!!
Well actually you could use a mini headphone amp like this one I have and like
Fiio E5
and it would probably solve your problem since it will be between your headphones and the phone
But don't you think it's stupid that we would need something like that?
I only have that problem when I'm plugged into the car charger. DC vs AC I guess.

actually AC is noisier. it has a sine wave, DC does not. your wall charger still spits out the same DC as the car charger, it just rectifies the ac to dc before stepping the voltage down. Car charger is all dc so its just stepping the voltage down from 12v to 5v. car charger probably has a weaker ground. Most car chargers I've seen are poorly built...
i thought that was normal
i got some sony MDR-V150's and i get that **** too yes i know they're old! so dont say anythin bout that
its not very loud but since i got good hearing plus the fact its right on my ears i can hear it when nothin is playin or when i touch the screen

I'm using M9P's, and they use a mic so I can take calls with them also, and I love using voice command with them .
Ahhhh the impedence problems seems right, but I wonder what the impedence on crappy airplane (Jetblue) headphones are then? I think it might have something to do with the mic, but there were ways that would slow it down. I could "turn" on the headphones without plugging it in through an app called toggle headset. It removed a lot of static, but sometimes it didn't work...
All of meelecs phones' are 16impednece, which makes me believe that when I get my m11+'s they'll have the same prob
No headphone pop or capacitive screen static
The static with touch screen issue has been addressed. It was a problem with any OC Kernel, but it has been fixed with the latest kernels Darch has been putting out.

Is the 2.5mm jack funky for anyone else? When I have headphones or ext. speakers plugged in, slight movements will cause the connection to be lost -- I have to rotate the plug around to restore, and then hold the phone still. (Any fix other than new handset?) Thanks.
You are using the wrong size. 2.5 is too small. You should get a 3.5 and it should fit fine.
Sorry, I must be confused about the size (it's a 3.5mm jack?). I am indeed using the right sized plugs for the jack -- standard headphone/speaker plugs.

Sounds like a bad jack. Loose joints, etc can cause that. Try another headphone or speaker plug. If the same happens, you have a bad jack.

Yes, thanks -- it happens with headphones and speakers that have been fine with other devices (even happens w/the Samsung-provided set of headphones).
Bummer, but I may just have to live with it; I'd hate to trade this phone in for a refurb (for something so relatively minor)...
I had an issue where after about 30 minutes of playing music the phone would randomly think that signals were being send by whatever was plugged into the jack to pause/skip, etc. This would happen whether I was using the stock ear pieces or other headphones or had it plugged into my car's stereo.
I ended up exchanging the device to resolve the problem.
Mine has the same problem, so apparently it's not incredibly uncommon. Luckily I literally never use headphones with my phone, or anything that requires the 3.5 jack honestly so it's a non-issue.

Interesting, that happens on mine as well (I actually thought the random pausing may be a "feature" -- like for when the headphones become accidentally unplugged!).
Make sure your hedphones/speakers plug fits snuggly into the jack. I had an "issue" when I thought I had a bad jack, but I just wasn't plugging the headphones all the way in, looked like a jackass when I claimed a warranty replacement, and took the TMO skin off the phone for the last time before shipping my "defective" phone, just to try it one more time, saw that the plug didn't go all the way in, pushed it a bit harder and it clicked into place LOL

I'll admit to thinking the same lol
Thanks, that is good advice (same thing happened to me once with an ipod nano -- case prevented a plug from going in all the way!) -- but in this instance, my case doesn't cover the top edge of the phone, so the jack is free & clear...
Hi guys just curious if any of you get any squeel when using you g2 with headphones or aux when nothing is playing. Mine makes the noise but as soon as music starts it's gone. Not sure if it's my cable or car.. i don't think my Legend did this.

Never had it happen to me...
it might be engine noise. i used to have that issue a lot with other devices (my TP2 and sirius sat radio). do you have the charger plugged in when you use it
I get a bunch of annoying noise when playing music through my car speakers, but only if the phone is plugged into the charger at the same time. Not sure why. As soon as I unplug the charger the noise goes away.
thats the dredded engine noise what happens is that it picks up the noise from the battery. the only way to get rid of it is to get a filter to the aux cord. my bro hooks up systems in ppls car and it always happens when you connect it to the car battery.
+1 I got similar filter like this in my car.http://cgi.ebay.com/3-5mm-FILTER-CO...er_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item5d273d8ff9
Just a question, are any of you guys attaching a car charger to the phone while playing the music in the car?
Aside from zielin.
i get some feedback noise when no music is playing but when playing, there is no issue. when i stop playback, it takes a couple seconds then the noise starts. ive always had a charger plugged in too. never tried without the charger.

I do. I had bought a gold-plated male x male 3.5mm jack cord from Radio Shack. When nothing is playing, I get that noise.
SoTacMatt
I am bad at updating threads..
The noise was indeed caused by my alternator and only happens when the phone is plugged into the charger. The reason I never noticed it with my HTC Legend was because I used a USB cable to my car's AUX for charging. However that cable got wet and corroded so I have been using a cigarette lighter charger (igo) since then.
I installed a Parrot MKi9100 into my car and I also get the very same noise through it while navigating menus, etc. Speaking of the MKi9100, never buy one if you intend to use it for music. Parrot has messed up all their firmware and the thing is a huge waste of money if you want to bluetooth steam audio or use an ipod/iphone. It freezes all the time and no matter the source device or input, pausing and then playing again disconnects the device. It's great :S Oh and their own forums are riddled with people complaining (literally swearing and insulting the company) but Parrot seem to have NO IDEA as they don't read their own forum. They also don't reply to tech support emails sent through their own website.
yea bro i told you ya earlier it was engine noise
On my phone you can hear clicking/popping when the sound sources switch around, but I don't think that's a defect in the phone.
This thread makes me chuckle though, I have a cig lighter charger for my ipod and that never caused any weird interference issues, maybe monster shoved a filter in it? (ya.. monster.. hurray for finding it on 90% clearance at target? XD)

i couldnt say why that happened then again i dont own an ipod. but in any car that me and my bro setup any systems in we always encountered that issue if we dont put a filter in it
