Just wanted to know if a backup was performed by selecting all data, would it save all the programs stored in storage memory too also my text messages and what else?
The "All data" option of xBackup will backup all data in volatile RAM; since RAM is further divided into program and storage portions, both program and storage data will be backed up. To make is easy to remember, xBackup backs up everything that you'd lose if you do a hard reset.
Storage and Storage Card data are not backed up.

On a few ocassions when newly-installed software causes problems with my Mini, I will do a hard reset and restore from xBackup.
I used to use xbackup for my Magciain and had been able to restore all my programs and data from a hard reset.
But it recently failed me, twice! When I needed it after a hard reset, it gave me an error message and said the backup is not for this machine. Maybe it was due to the softwares I installed but I don't care. Now I've switched to Sprite Backup which is much much faster, takes up half the storage space and much more reliable. Looking back, xbackup is just crappy.
I had just the opposite experience: I switched from Sprite Backup back to xBackup.
No doubt Sprite Backup is much faster and allows me to select what I would like to backup or restore, but this caused me to revert to xBackup:
1. Installed errant software, ending up with lots of DLLs etc in the Windows folder.
2. Decided to restore with Sprite Backup with an image prior to the software installation.
3. Still saw old DLLs in the Windows folder.
I concluded then that Sprite Backup didn't restore cleanly; the same scenario with xBackup worked wonderfully; no old DLLs.
Besides, I kept losing my custom ringtones and Contact ID photos (I am using a Mini) whenever I restored from Sprite Backup. xBackup works for me.

You get this error message with Activesync restore if your Regional Settings are different. e.g. you backed up while set to the UK but are trying to restore on machine with the default USA setting. It will also give this error if the OS is a different version (e.g you applied a firmware upgrade). Because of this, it's worth indicating the region and firmware level in the backup filename for future reference.
Maybe xbackup is the same? Try changing the region before you restore.

Should I really invest in a good backup software like Sprite or is xBackup good enough? I'm more interested in the pros and cons if and when I have to do a hard reset on the road and need to restore from a backup.
Xbackup is perfctly fine if all you need to restore is your PIM stuff (contacts, calendar etc).
If you need to make sure you can restore all your programs etc, then yes get Spritebackup or something similar and back it all up to an SD card or MMC card.

My cursor remains in the url box since I tweaked some fonts, scroll bar dimensions and other things.
the d-pad/jog wheel moves the entire page...but no in-page cursor/clicking of items.
Its been all stylus for a few days.
I am a bit ignorant on how to proceed.
I DO have all backed up on the device with spb.
Tell me what to do please!

If you backed up all your data on the device with Spb Backup software prior to your experimenting, then you simply have to click on the executable file that was created when you did the backup and all will be restored.
please know that i'm totally new to windows/computers...... but exactly what is the 'executable file' created?
Aren't there certain files from previous backups associated with IE amd IE settings that I can selectively custom restore?

On default, the backup file is created under \My Documents -directory. Just click the filename and the backup restoration dialogue begins... basically just click Next/Yes

so..I went to my spb backup to a previous date when it worked.......
then in restore chose my documents (?)..and restored those files:.... no return to cursur function.
'my documents' on my storage card has no 'directory'.
I'll keep playing!

I don't quite understand what you mean by "'my documents' on my storage card has no 'directory'.
My Documents -directory is located on Phones internal memory by default. When you insert a Storage Card, it has no directories nor files.
And after a quick thinking, I can only remember Camera application to use Storage Card\My Documents, wether you choose to save pictures there and after that the My Documents directory will be created.
You could copy the executable backup file to storage card, then do a hard reset and then restore files from the backup.
Oh and one thing, when you create a backup or restore, make sure, you are not connected to ActiveSync. I learned that lesson once
If my memory serves me right, Spb Backup makes backup only of Phones internal memory, so restoring a backup, won't put anything on the storage card.
i've just bought 2Gb memory card for my atom exec...i use to install all my software in my phone memory before,but it seems that the space in not enuff..so,shud install all the software into the memory card,and left the phone memory empty?shud i hard reset my phone b4 i install all the program into the mmry card?how bout the contacts that i save in my phone memory?how to transfer it?

Use SpB Backup. Specify custom backup and choose PIM email etc and it will back up only contacts SMS, email etc. Then you can choose where to put the backup, choose storage card.
The good thing about SpB Backup is that is creates an executable backup file and if you later flash your PDA like I do constantly with these new ROMs you just double click the exe and it will re install all your contacts and emails.
The problem with PIM backup utility is that once you flash your device you actually need the PIM backup program installed before you can use the backed up data, not so with spb backup.

yeah, that is correct. But for most cases, almost all cooked ROM are equipt with pimbackup so no need to install it right? it's quite handy and doesn't eat up resources or create large file.
On the contrary with SpB Backup, I would not recomment to use it if your going to reflash your unit to a new ROM(unless it's just a plain HR then go ahead and use it). Since every ROM is different, SpB Backup may cause unstable condition and eventualy crashes the unit forcing you to do another HR or even reflash.
All of a sudden everytime I make a backup with latest version of spb backup I get, at the end, a file verification error
backup file is created but when trying to restore it says again file verification failed.
tried googling and searching on spb forum but found nothing.
any idea?

Go to Your backup location on SD-Card, delete all corrupted files (they have no SPB-Icon), do a new full backup by hand and everything is fine again ........
small chance, but check if the storage card is not full, I seem to recall invalid backups due to lack of space
Now I realise I am likely to be subjected to a torrent of mockery for this, but feel I should post it in the spirit of a public service announcement.
I needed to do a factory reset of my Galaxy S today (Froyo JPO via Odin - nice), and as a clever and forward thinking IT literate person thought it would be a good idea to back up my apps (if only to save my Angry Birds progress).
So I downloaded Titanium Backup from the Market, and used it to backup all my apps & and services with "useful data".
I then proceeded to do a factory reset using the handy code *2767*3855# (due to the minor snag of forgetting my Mobile Tracker password, and being unable to use the reset option in Settings)
arning 1 - This performs a reset as soon as you hit # - no "are you sure" or similar. Use with caution.
Once that had completed, all was good (messaging app was working again which was the reason for the reset), and I proceeded to reinstall Titanium Backup from the Market, and went to restore all my apps.
FAIL
Warning 2 - Titanium Backup saves it's backups on the internal SD card on a Galaxy S. This gets wiped by a Factory Reset, therefore saying Syonara to all your carefully backed up data. Whoops.
Now I will readily admit this is my own daft fault for not checking the backup location, and copying the data to my external SD card, but then "Experience is simply the name we give to our mistakes"
Here's hoping this prevents at least one other person making the same foolish mistake.

Hangon, I'm 99% sure the internal doesn't get formatted using factory reset.. Well at least on my device (Aussy GT-I9000)

Today I did a Factory reset thiking I will los the data but the data is there. This confirm the 1% to complete de 100%.

Data should still be there fella in 'sd' just move it into 'external_sd' same happened to me.
You should have really read the documentation before using the app
That being said, I have my backups stored on Dropbox so at least if anything happens I can restore it from the cloud.
Trust me guys - the TitaniumBackup folder on the internal SD was empty after the factory reset & reinstall.
That said - it's possible it was the reinstall that blanked it, although that would be even more daft.
Having not checked it during the process, I can't comment for sure when it went bye-bye.
It never happened to me. What about other files on your Internal SD? Did they get wiped out too or just the contents TitaniumBackup folder?
No idea, anyone experienced d1verjim's case? All I can think of is bug of TB that makes it "Delete all Backups".
