My X2 just arrived! Details inside, good and bad.

There are some things I'd like to point out, I purchased from mobicity and I'm here to confirm some things about my X2.
1) Firmware: (Official release?)
Software ID 1231-7617
Software version R1AA-097
Customization version R5A
Language region Generic_SG
Radio 6.5.60221
2) Keyboard backlight lags and takes 5 seconds to light up after sliding.
3) Keyboard feels really light and plastic..
4) When sliding out keyboard, it doesn't have a heavy metal feel like the X1. Is this just the new feel of the X2?
5) It was said on wmpoweruser.com that X2 will be running windows mobile 6.5.3, I don't see any 6.5.3... or the start at the bottom of the screen.
6) Speaker volumes are quite soft, nowhere as loud as X1 with audiopara volume booster.. wondering if audiopara will work on X2?
7) Choppy video recording
8) Nice landscape pictures with 8,1 megapixel, BUT autofocus fails like X1 for up-close objects.
9) Less blurry than X1, but still blurry
That's all for now, will keep testing the X2.
I believe WMPoweruser said that the upgrade may come in the future, but all the shipping X2s will have plain 'ole WM 6.5 on them.
WM 6.5.3 wa first officially presented at CES
few days ago.
So you won't have it now.
So in terms of build quality, is the X2 better or the X1 better?
The thing I hate the most about HTC phones (X1 inclusive) is that they all feel cheap.
I can come to 4 conclusions about the X2:
X2 has better keyboard
X2 has faster/smoother graphics
X2 looks dam sexy
X2 gives me bragging rights
Everything else is available on X1 that X2 has, so if your a cheapo and want value for your buck, stick with X1.

Same as our leaked official firmware Good sign.
Camera is the same as X1, laggy, blurry.
Tried infinite focus, macro, twiddled all the settings.
Very disappointed, actually I would say no difference in quality as X1.
Autofocus function just seems useless, cant even take medium to close quality pictures of anything.
X2 maybe 8.1 megapixels, but to me its just a number after testing it out.
I can come to one conclusion, image quality output are the same as X1..
Royal-b:
Thanks a lot for all the information. All of us really appreciate it.
I'm not sure how valuable this suggestion is, but it would be very interesting: could you run the sk tools benchmark and report the values? I think that would at least tell us whether SE tried to optimize performance.
I'm not highly optimistic that they did; my suspicion is that software development money for the X2 when into making the facade more slick, at the expense of optimizing performance. The camera issues seem to be case in point.

This is very bad news. Besides the Megapixel count, X2's camera seemed to have better lens than X1, and supposedly they've made a good camera on the Satio...
Please let us know if you get around this somehow or have a different judgment after some use...
Honsetly for the price of the X1 and X2 are phones should of came with cyber shot with are cameras.
From GSMArena preview:
"The image quality is surprisingly good for a prototype - we are quite convinced that the XPERIA X2 will be equal or even better than the one of Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot. All the colors are accurate, there's no over-sharpening or purple fringing, white balance is adequate, the resolved detail is pretty enough with foliage looking especially good. It's only that we believe the resolved detail could be somewhat better and we guess that Sony Ericsson will work a bit more on this until the release."
So where is the problem...?
Problem is he has the latest X2 and says the camera is as bad as any HTC's (X1), which are normally quite bad, as my Kaiser's...
We (I, at least) were expecting a Cybershot/Nokia/Satio like quality, which unfortunately does not seem to be the case. From your posts I assume you are buying the X2 as soon as it gets out in Poland in the 18th. Just hope you have a better experience(and please inform us, post some pics etc)... I am very willing to buy the X2, but a bad camera can be a deal breaker for me.

Yeah, I don't get why no one can put a semi-decent camera in a WM phone. Actually, the X1's is good but they did not optimize the software. If motorola continues including good quality cameras (like apparently the Droid and maybe here), I'm tempted to cross over.

Bizarre request for Omnia 7 owners

Hey everybody!
I hope you guys are enjoying your Omnias. I'm thinking about getting one, but I already have a Galaxy S and am suffering the dreaded SAMOLED Pentile issue. That is, that the screen Samsung uses has a lower pixel count than standard LCD screens. On Android this is pretty awful and makes text look fuzzy at small sizes.
Now, I'd like to see how WP7 looks on the screen, especially since everyone is raving about how awesome it looks. It might be that Samsung has tweaked the display so that it looks better.
So, my request is close-up pictures of the display while it's on. Showing websites (zoomed out), pictures and the main menu. Preferrably taken with a camera that supports "macro mode" so that we can clearly see how sharp (or not) the display actually looks. I'd love to see it in person, but apparently the phone hasn't arrived in Spain yet.
I'd really appreciate this, so thanks in advance to anyone that goes ahead with my request!

These reviews by GSMArena and PhoneArena should give you an idea, and has some close shots. While zoomed out webpages does look pixelated, the contrast and colours of the Omnia 7 is just stunning. I personally just zoom abit if it gets pixelated, plus I dont like reading text thats too small anyway.

Hello,
If you still need I may try to take some photos of it this weekend...
I used to have HTC Diamond (2 devices : touch and Pro), then I get an iPhone 4, and now the omnia7 : the screen is really really better on the Omnia, I was very impressed by the quality of it (video playback is very nice, pictures too, websites are ok)

I would really appreciate it if you would I have seen the online reviews but none of them have pics of enough quality for me to see how text is rendered on the screen.
I really hate how pixelated everything looks on the Galaxy S. As soon as I get close to the screen it's like I'm looking through a net. The screen on the Omnia is the same, but if Microsoft has better font rendering it might be less noticeable.
Thanks!
No way to overpass a hardware limitation with any software. If you found very small text being difficult to read on your Galaxy S, it would be the same on Omnia 7. However, in contrast to Android, Windows Phone 7 is designed with the AMOLED tech in mind. All text in the default UI are big enough (even too big for some tastes ) avoiding described flaw being noticeable. Still in the browser or bad compound third party apps with too small fonts it would be the same as Galaxy S.
Btw, IMHO this is no issue. I don’t like to torture myself by reading so small texts on an already small phone screen anyway, so just zoom in is used here .
Well - on the "no fix in software is possible" - not quite. Microsoft ClearType is used on RGB LCDs to make text look smoother by changing the color of pixels based on the known layout of the colored subpixel-elements.
The problem with the AMOLED Screens seems to be that they don't have red and blue in every pixel (only green). Perhaps using clever software it would be possible to avoid fuzzy rendering of text and Microsoft developed WP7 with AMOLED screens in mind.
So it would be possible but I guess there are no optimizations of that kind. I had no problems with my Omnia 7 up to now so I'd just say it's not that big of a deal.
I just have swapped from Galaxy to Omnia and the I do like the display I have no problem reading large or small fonts between the 2. I have not had a sunny day yet to test this but I found on the Galaxy that the auto brightness always had a little lag I would always need to remove my sunnies for a couple of seconds to see what I was doing then the phone would kick in and I could put them on. The Omnia on black background is really designed for reading text large or small.
Hi, I've taken you some pics, but the "attach too" limits the size of an attachment. I can email them to you or if you have a minute to suggest a better way to upload them I'll be happy to give it a shot.
Cheers

Thanks! I actually forgot to update the thread. I have finally bought an Omnia for myself, decided to take the risk So I no longer need the pics.
It is true, it is the same screen as on the Galaxy S and the dreaded pentile is there. However, due to the metro UI it bothers me a lot less and it does make everything pop out more and seem very attractive.
WP7 renders fonts better than android so browsing is a lot easier on the Omnia's screen than it was on the Galaxy. Overall I'm really happy with the device and I like it a lot more than I like the Galaxy.

Xperia P-Camera Samples!! Superb quality!! can we import the camera drives?

Hi all,
after so many post regarding our xperia 8mp camera low quality- look it the new xperia p camera samples here:
http://www.ixbt.com/mobile/sony-xperia-p.shtml
another sample:
http://cdn.asia.cnet.com/story_media/62213636/DSC_0031.jpg
http://mobilenet.cz/galerie/sony-xperia-p-82599/clanek-9207
Sony finally fixed the compression, lake of small details, strong sharpening problem
the photos are more like iPhone 4s now -clean and full of detail with no more aggressive post processing
is there any way to import the new camera drivers to our 8mp xperia devices?
Well I guess we would run into some big obstacles.... as much as I know the qualcom drivers are responsible for the bad quality output of the pictures.
Since Xperia P is running on the Nova Thor SoC the device gets better picture quality.
Look into this thread for more information concerning the related libs that need to be changed for better camera quality:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309080
wow, amazing picture quality.
like pro camera
Excellent picture, wish we could get something like this with an update from Sony, or by modding from out great developers.
Damn, is this really a phone camera, looks so neat.
I think we should first know wheather the senser on ARC is the same to the senser on P
if it is we can import it on it by modify some place in the camera.apk
also we can choose the ISO
It sounds really great!
Damn, zoom in 100% on this picture, and it still looks sharp!

yes- and real natural sharpness (lens) and not crappy software sharpening like on our phones! and full of details!!
so qualcom is to blame! (crap post-processing!)
wow so much better than arc's camera, I'm 100% sure it's a different sensor
*JELLY*
It's the compression. With good lighting 2011 8MP camera's make good shots too.
Here are some pics I made with my Neo:
http://minus.com/mxCtiKuyk/1g
infairness to Xperia P, picture quality is mere like with the iphone 4s... hmmp...
The Iphone 4S picture quality is still one of the best for smartphones, and the sensor in it is similar (or the same) to the one we have in Xperia Arc.
Wow first of all this forum looks great if a little daunting.
If you'll permit a noob's questions who doesn't know anything about modding Android or any other OS for that matter, (I've searched the forum for similar questions but couldnt find anything):
I'm currently looking at buying a new phone and my top two conflicting priorities are camera and price. So I gather there's something wrong with the Arc's processing that the Xperia P doesn't suffer from?
I've currently got an Xperia Ray coming through the post but have discovered I could get a Xperia P for around about the same price. Are the differences in spec (and camera) worth me returning the Ray?
Or should I not be so Sony loyal and look for other brand mid/upper range phones? I can get the Galaxy SII for a little bit more, but if the camera difference is negligible I'd rather save the money.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Xperia Z Review...

I have read a few reviews on the Xperia Z on here. But I would like to give me input .
User Interface:
It is very much like a lighter version of Xperia Gingerbread devices. And looks much nicer in my opinion. Sony has done pretty good in keeping it close to stock while giving there own skin too. The lock screen is fancy although I do miss the lockscreen shortcuts like on Samsung and LG devices.
Speed:
Pretty laggy to start with. Which I am sure you will all agree is not very acceptable for a phone of this much power. But after installing a custom ROM is flies like it should do. I can't tell any major speed differences between this and any other high end smarphones. But it gets me by. And this is making me wonder why I even bother with benchmarks when it is getting more further apart from actual user experience.
Screen:
The screen is gorgeous. I don't look at my phone from the side. Which sounds pretty stupid to me. It is much better than the nexus 4 who's colours look washed out. When it comes to PPI you cant really see a difference to be honest. I am using the display calibrator and my settings are the following: Saturation 3.3 and hue 210. This is the best option for a more balance of colours In my opinion..
Design:
I have no issues with design. I remember watching the following video before I got the phone and thought it was amazing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3yMw2L3tJA
However. This video is pretty misleading. I dropped my phone on solid concrete about 5 feet high. IT now has a few dents at the bottom. But screen is fine and back has only minor scratches. Of course I bought a case straight away! Apart from that the actual design is sexy! much better than the S3 or even HTC one in my opinion. The flaps are annoying. BUT THEY SERVE A PURPOSE.
Camera: Camera I also have no problems with as I am not a professional photographer. The only complaint is the lostt of fine detail. But in some cases this just helps the photos look more stunning and "smooth". Depedning on your opinion. Burst mode is just too noisy for me. So it'll do for me.
There you have it guys. short and sweet. IF you would like to know my opinion on other features etc. Please do not hesitate to say.
I may be selling this to get the Galaxy note 10.1. As I am a sucker for big displays and to be brutally honest Samsung. I never text or call. just facebook, Internet, whatsapp and youtube.
Very detailed

No.1 G2 Smartwatch Review

Hi all,
I've just finished my review of the No.1 G2 Smartwatch. I found it to be a pretty impressive smartwatch overall. I loved the fact that it supported both iOS and Android. Whilst all the call features and notifications worked across both platforms, Android was clearly far better integrated, with notifications having app icons, you are able to respond to messages straight from the watch, etc.
Most features worked really well. However, the heartrate monitor seemed inaccurate and I couldn't get the IR Remote feature to work.
The included camera is pretty average and more of a novelty than anything else. I've embedded a sample video recording below:
The build quality is excellent and feels much more premium when compared to the similarly priced Pebble.
If you're wanting to start playing with wearables, I have to say its a pretty cheap way to get a cool new toy at under $80.
Check out the detailed review for plenty more information and photos: http://hometheatrelife.com/no-1-g2-smartwatch-review/
Thanks to GearBest for providing me the Stainless Steel variant to review. You can purchase it from them here.

Thank you DarkscytheX,
Is it possible to change the wallpaper on the watch, not the clock face but the background for settings and menus. In some of the pictures for the No.1 G2, the menu has a blue background but i can't seem to figure out how to change it.
It's not possible to change the wallpaper to a custom image however, if you go into Settings>Display there is an option to change the wallpaper to 1 of 3 pre installed options
