What to install from extended ROM - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I just did the hard reset / soft reset on my T-Mobile MDA Compact. I can now see the extended ROM.
My goal is to have all the functionality I need, without useless programs (E-mail wiz and others) taking up space. I also want as little branding as possible.
What do I need to install from the extended ROM?

you have to modify the config.txt in your Ext_Rom
Something like this for .cab file from Ext_rom
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PPCTahoma.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Registry_p02.ARM.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Version_AKU2a.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\VideoMMS.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\VNKbrd2K3Lite.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Wisbar1.3.CAB
...
and this for .cab file from Storage card
CAB: \Storage\AM.cab\ArcReader.CAB
CAB: \Storage\AM.cab\DateMate.CAB
CAB: \Storage\AM.cab\FastCleanup.CAB
CAB: \Storage\AM.cab\MMS16012_WWE.sa.CAB
...
So you will have 32mb for you prefered sofwares
Just make sure that they are correct - other wise....

Thanks, but I understand HOW to make an extended ROM config.
Let me rephrase my question:
On the MDA Compact extended ROM, there are a number of programs that would normally be installed by default. Which of these do I really need (should I install)?

Hy Dylan,
there is no 'optimal' configuration for the extended rom. There are no programs in it which are needed to work as a phone. You should install all programs for the camera and maybe MMS.
All other programs are options (in my opinion)

Hi Dylan
I think you should not remove the followings
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CallerIDB31_Hima2_WWE.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CameraB70_Hima2_WWE.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CameraB70_Streaming_reg.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ExtendedROMUnlocker.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MIDI561.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\OEM_AKU2a_WWE_04010401.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Version_AKU2a.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\VideoMMS.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MMS16012_WWE.sa.CAB

sorry bad dial-up

I was wondering the same.. For some of the items it's obvious what they do but for some it's not.. Which ones does one 'need' ?

howto delete the provider settings on hard reset

hi,
i don´t want that on every hard reset my phone turns back in the t-mobile settings.
I don´t want any settings there. I want to do the settings for my self.
How can I do this?
How must i modify the /extended_rom directory?
Which cabs-files contain these settings?
thanx & regards

Hi
Please take a look here.http://www.ppcw.net/index.php?itemid=1642

@helio
thanks for your answere but i need a exactly describtion for each cab-files ... it looks a little serious for me ...
my original Config.txt file:

CAB: \Extended_ROM\Version.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\OEM_GER.sa.CAB

Are the lines with the "#" my T-mobile customizing files? (TMD maybee T-Mobile Deutschland?)
(I don´t want to deaktivate the wrong files and damage my mda, so it better i ask someone else to confirm. I´m just a newbie).

What's Inside an ExtROM - Custom ExtROM Cab Install

Hello all,
When came across to do NO install on ExtROM (or say, custom ExtROM installation), seems we are just blind guess and just use the method of "trial-and-error" to install cab inside ExtROM.
Do anyone have file details about them? or share your findings about ExtROM?
From O2 1.03WWE

Um, what's the question?
You can't easily unlock the Magician's ExtROM anyway, so you can't change the files in it. It MAY be possible to install your own CABs in it if you could get the files unlocked, by altering the config.txt and having a read-only CAB, but until the Magician ExtROM can be unlocked, it cannot be done.
I am not wondering the method how to delete those ext. rom information. Instead, I would like to know which cab is/are necessary, which is/are not.
It is based on the idea that "Default ExtROM always instead something eat your valuable RAM".
If you think it is fine for default installation, it is always fine.
I know people who don't need the camera and have successfully removed ALL CABs from their XDA II!
As a general guide, you need the Smart Dialling, Phone Pad, Camera, Java VM, Patch_WWE_103155 and Version_WWE_103166.sa.CAB files as a "minimum" to get a useable device. Without these, some core functions don't work.
You DON'T need TPDisable - in fact, by removing it, you get interactive prompts for each ExtROM CAB on a hard reset - allowing you to install the "core" files to an SD Card if you want! I wouldn't recommend it, as some SD Cards take too long to "boot" in soft-reset or standby modes, and can cause your PDA to hang.
You still can't delete the other files easily either though, as the locked ExtROM is still unable (as far as I know) to be unlocked on the Magician.

Install script for automatic install of CAB files

We know that the extended Rom has an Autorun.exe file that reads out a config.txt file like this (This file is from a Dutch Qtek 2.18 Rom):
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MP_mHub_NLD_051220.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MP_MMSAutoDisconnect_060106.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MP_Ringtone_NLD_050811_signed.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MP_SmartDialing_enable_050915_signed.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MP-Enable-MMS-DRM.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MP-Shorcut-MMS1-Java5xx-CyberonVoice-CV-051220.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_UpdateUAProfileAKU2.0_Wizard(AKU2.0)_051214.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PPC-Qtek-SubjectIssue-24Oct05XML.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\P_DisconnectButton3s_Wizard.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\P_ECall_112_911_QTEK_Wizard.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\P_Edge-Icon_QTEK_Jan24_Wizard.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\P_EnableSPN_Wizard_20060109.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\P_Theme_Qtek_Wizard_Jan20.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\P_pIE_Qtek_NLD_Feb22.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Signed_Version.sa.CAB
EXEC:\Extended_ROM\cusTSK.exe \Windows\Qtek.tsk
LOCKisabled
RST: Reset
Every file gets installed (automatically) in the Main Memory of my Wizard.
Now would I like to know if it's possible to adjust the config.txt file (with some kind of parameter) to install files to the Main Memory OR the Storage Card.
After a hard-reset I spend a lot of time installing my cabs again, so I would like to do this with a script (based on the AutoRun and config from the Extended_Rom).
Anyone know if this is possible?

Molski

I think not - its not the script that determines where the files are installed but the inf file in the cab. You could try unpacking the cab and editing the inf file and then putting the cab together again.
That sucks bigtime!
So the only way to automatically install cabs on the Storage Card is editing the cabs theirselves?
Then I will stick with my first option....manual install of every cab file

how to create my own ExtRom - guide, tips ??

hi all,
i have been looking/reading through many threads/forums to learn one thing but it seems that either nobady knows how to do it or just dosnt want to shere this info i hope i will find this solution here!
what i am after is some info on how to create ur own ExtRom. i have unlocked the ExtRom of my mda pro using buzz's tool (thx buzz) and deleted all cabs cos i want to modify and costumize my extended rom. here is a list of file i had :
LOCK:Enabled
EXEC:Extended_ROMcusTSK.exe WindowsT-Mobile.tsk
EXEC: Extended_ROMWifiTempON.exe
CAB: Extended_ROMPP_TMO_WiFi_SSID_U NI.CAB
EXEC: Extended_ROMWifiTempOFF.exe
CAB: Extended_ROMSigned_SSD_Shortcu t_WWE.sa.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMSigned_USIM.sa.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMSigned_STK_3_18_1_ 0.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMPP_TMO-UAProf(2.0) _UNI_130134.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMPP_TMUK- Conn_UNI_130149.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMPP_TMUK- Customization_UNI_130193.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMPP_StreamDefault_T MOUK.sa.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMPT_AudioQuality- Patch(TMO)_UNI.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMPP_TMUK_Mediaspeed _33600.sa.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMPP_TMUK_Policy4107 _UNI.sa.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMP_Version.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMMP_Customization_T MUK_Universal(AKU2.0) _060215.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMMP_CVSDcpl_2006022 0.cab
CAB: Extended_ROMMP_EmailWizDB_PPC_ TMOUK_060216.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMMP_PictureVideo_re g_signed.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMMP-Shorcut-MMS1- JAVA6XX-CV-VOICE-EmailWiz-TMO- 051215.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMEnable_VT_RTPlugin _0727_2_signed.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMPP_TMUK- UXC_20060224.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMPT_CommManageV0911 _UNI.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMP_ClockAlwaysOnTop .CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMPT_TMUK_UXC_BrandB rowser_UNI.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMP_Remove_CS_Connec tion.CAB
CAB: Extended_ROMP_RemoveMSNToday.C AB
LOCK: disabled
RST: Reset
in addition there is also AutoRun file which i believe is responisble for installing CABs from the extended rom acording to config.txt
so far i have read that by editing config.txt and performing hard reset my device will autinstal the cabs i will provide eg. my config.txt would look like this
LOCK:Enabled
EXEC:Extended_ROMcusTSK.exe WindowsT-Mobile.tsk
EXEC: Extended_ROMWifiTempON.exe
CAB: Extended_ROMPP_TMO_WiFi_SSID_U NI.CAB
EXEC: Extended_ROMWifiTempOFF.exe
CAB:|Extended_ROMspbplus.cab
CAB: |Extended_ROMother_file.cab
CAB: |Extended_ROMother_file.cab
LOCK: disabled
RST: Reset
so after performing hard reset i should get all the files from extended rom (from config.txt) installed, right ?
but in fact it is not happenenig for some reasons. i dont know why and i would like to know..can someone explain how to do it. only the cabs which were pre-instaled in ExtRom are getting installed and all "my" CABs are not.
i would be really greatful if someone could help me with this issue and i bet there is many people interested in this topic. thanks in advance
cudo
how is that possible people that there is so many of you and no one cant help ? c'mon !

Tweaking Ext ROM

Hi., I spent this last weekend tinkering with my Alpine, stuffing the ext rom with all the apps i would normally install after a hard reset, pretty sucessfully, I think.(I used Deathnoise's Rom as a base)
However, I have two questions.
1 - Stability. How important is the installation order of the cabs in the config.txt file? Everything works brilliantly, but there are one or two stability issues. Most noteably with the Pocketbreeze 2k3 today plugin. When i try to close off tasks as complete, it hangs (most of the time) and also sometimes the device takes a while to boot after a reset.
Is this perhaps to do with the order of my config.txt? or is it more likely that the release i'm using is not quite stable?
2 - Is there a .bat file or equivalent that can be executed from within the config.txt file?
Specifically, I want to automate the following as part of the install.
a - copy the loadvdisk link into the startup folder (even tho i have removed the delete shortcut cab, the lnk is not there after i do the install)
b - load a few registry tweaks and move a few files around as part of the install
c - set the button lock so that it locks when i go to standby
My config.txt file is as follows
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Alpine_SMS05272005.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Alpine_UniDir_20051114001.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\BandSel_WWE_11250401.sa.CAB

CAB: \Extended_ROM\PocketPlus.arm.cab
CAB: \Extended_ROM\calenderplus.cab

(A whopping 2k free space left over!)
Im about to start rearanging the entries according to the config.txt files of both Pug and Deathnoise, but thought id put the Question out there before i get elbows deep in cooking.
