Qtek 2020 onto 802.11g with AES - Networking

Hi guys,
We're developing some software running on a Qtek 2020. This needs to connect to a corporate network wirelessly for updates, etc.
Our infrastructure partners have told us that the WiFi connection needs to be g and b devices will be blocked for security reasons.
We plan on using an XDA backpack with a Linksys WCF54G CF card to connect with. So far so good.
They've now told us that we'll have to use devices that are running WM2003SE as they want to use AES to further increase security. I understand that SE contains a WPA implementation with AES.
We have some issues with the software not working correctly with SE and also it doesn't look like there are any official ROM upgrades with SE (yet).
Searching these forums, I found out that the 1.72 ROM fo rthe XDAII has a WPA implementation included with it.
This leads me onto my questions :
1) Does anyone know if the 1.72 WPA implementation has the AES parts included? If so, we shouldn't have to upgrade to SE. (which we can't anyway)
2) Does the WCF54G support AES?
3) If the above isn't going to work, does anyone have any idea about another combination of WM2003 devices/backpacks/cards that will allow us to connect to an 802.11g network using AES security?
Thanks in advance.

Does the Imate K-Jam support all wireless G security feature

Like WPA and WPA2? Thanks.
WPA-PSK definitely works, tried it with a Netgear D834Gv2 I borrowed from a friend (gave it back and have a Linksys WRT54GC on the way). Not sure if it supports WPA2-PSK but I suppose it should be do-able.
WPA uses TKIP for encryption (based on RC4 - the same algorithm as WEP) but with a number of enhancements (Hence most access points can be upgraded with firmware).
WPA2 is based on AES-CCMP - this usually requires an encryption accelerator, so particulalry in APs WPA2 has to be supported from the beginning (i.e. the accelerator chip needs to be present) you can't just upgrade the firmware.
I've been trying to find out if WPAv2 is supported on the Universal, can't see it as an option and can only assume that perhaps the processor is not up to the encryption job - any comments anyone.

need help with Antha VPN and/or WM5 network config

hi,
I recently bought the Antha VPN Client to get access to my university WLAN
(via Nortel gateway).
The software runs properly on WM5 except that it can't connect to anything at all. I do not know if it is a Antha VPN problem, a WM5 problem or a hardware problem with the MDA pro. The software seems not to recognize the built in WLAN of the MDA pro (at least I connot select WLAN among the networks).
But it also won't work with "Internet" ot "ISP". If I chose "ISP" it starts to connect, but then disconnects.
Maybe anyone of you has experience with VPN clients on the MDA pro.
How are the profiles in WM5 "Internet", "ISP", "Work" etc, related to each other?
Is there any hidden firewall, or the T-mobile branding blocks the software etc.?
Thank you very much for every idea and best regards,
Elias
I also had issues with Antha and conatct support where i was told that M5000 (Universal)is not supported yet and that they also have issues.
Unfortunately when i looked at the supported systems i thought that i had seen the SPV M5000 (or Universal or whatever it is called) but it was another one with a similar name.
I think we have to wait until they find a fix for it.
Unfortunately there are not a lot of VPN's out there which work with Windows Mobile 5. I tried NCP Secure Client, but don't get it working either, but this is maybe because of parameter. You may give this one a try.

my 2 cents... give your sysadmin a tip and switch to openvpn, hassle free and damn-working ssl-based vpn. There is a openvpn pocketpc client in the works, and it's running pretty fine.
See you at the openvpn pocketpc forum

WiFi Problem with TyTn against WPA

Hi, maybe someone could be of any help
I tried out allready a lot and do not see a light at the end of the tunnel.
I am trying to get a TyTn to connect to CISCO APs using WPA with LEAP or PEAP or WPA-PSK and i do not manage to get it connected. The TyTn "sees" the network (SSID is hidden), tries to connect but did not manage to get connected. I tried with allmost any ROM available here. At the moment i am using the I-Mate on:
ROM version: 1.20.305.3
ROM date: 07/21/06
Radio version: 1.07.03.10
Protocol version: 32.41.7010.02H
Any help would be appreciated
Same problem here w/the Cingular 8525 and Cisco AP
Been the Cingular 8525 the same as the HTC TyTN, and using Cisco AP's at work I'm experiencing the same problems here.
The Cisco AP log shows a failure on the TCP/IP handshake when my 8525 tries to authenticate. We're also using WPA-PSK. Cisco support analyzed the log and found no explanation on why it cannot complete the 3 way handshake.
I can use WPA-PSK in my home network with a D-LINK DI-524 w/o any problems.
The next test will be to try a Linksys/Cisco router and WPA-PSK at a friends place, also I will try WEP (just for testing) at work and if I can w/o any encryption on the Cisco AP that is giving me problems.
I'll also try contacting HTC Support.
Thanks to anyone that could help, I will post any results of my tests.
Cyberg
The Wizard doesn't seem to support AES. Maybe other HTC devices have the same problem. I've also had trouble with routers running in dual AES/TKIP mode. Try setting TKIP only.
WM5 does not support AES. WM6 supports!!!
Entering the following line in the Cisco AP Config fixed it for me:
dot11 wpa handshake timeout 1000
I too am having troubles with the tytn and cisco AP's.
Ive done some testing
Encryption: none works
Encryption: WEP64/128 works when entering code in HEX
Encryption: WPA-PSK (HEX KEY, 64 digits) works
Encryption: WPA-PSK (ascii, 8-63 digits) FAILS
I will try the dot11 wpa handshake timeout 1000 later today, hope it fixes it.
Also noticed that my Hermes won't connect to my parents router (SSID hidden, WPA-PSK of about 16 digits). Somewhat frustrating, but never mind. Router in question is a Thomson Speedtouch 5xx (can't remember exact model number).
Go into Wireless LAN & Power Mode & max it out to Best Performance.
Same problem here... with my Tytn and an old 3com OfficeConnect b.
No way to enable WEP encryption (authentification will always fail).
Working perfect now with data encryption disabled: connection security made by letting only authorized mac-address to connect.
This way is also more secure than WEP encryption, am I right?
I will try the dot11 wpa handshake timeout 1000 later today, hope it fixes it.

Neither of these fixed it.
Its like the Hermes will only accept 64bit Hex key, which is fine but one of my other devices will only accept upto 63bit Ascii key
I had issues with my Cisco 1100 AP's and read somewhere on Cisco's website that QoS must be disabled on the Radio interface to get WPA/WPA2 to work:
Code:
interface Dot11Radio0
no dot11 qos mode
It worked for me
Andy
ADB100: Tried your code, still not working
Ive gotten WPA to work but only when useing the full 64digit key in HEX,
I think the Tytn has troubles with using ascii in WPA.
I had the same problem as the starter of this topic with Linksys WAG200G router, just couldn't set up to connect with WPA, so I switched back to disabled security with restriced access on trusted MAC address, and now it works like a charm.
WPA-PSK
Works for me. I have a Linksys WRT54G, and an 1100 AP. Connects to either of them seamlessly.
Just to add some more info in case anyone else stumbles on this thread.. had very same issues with WM5 on stock Hermes (T-Mobile VarioII). Had to unprotect the netork and rely on MAC filtering
Installing WM6 using Black 2.5 (now on 3.0) sorted the problem immediately. It seems some routers expect certain things from the device when using encryption that WM5 can't always provide (AES has already been mentioned). Yet another god reason to upgrade to WM6
Router here is Philips SNB 5600.
Hi
I'm having a similar problem with my Orange M700 (HTC Prophet) and Netgear DG834G.
Anyone any great ideas???

WPA-PSK / AES encryption

Ok I have Helmi's WM6 ROM and I am desperately trying to find a way to get the wireless functionality to connect to a router at work which *must* negotiate via WPA-PSK / AES.
Is there *any* way I can get my device to negotiate via AES, I can only see TKIP.
Thanks in advance
John
I have tried searching the forums for "AES" but no posts were returned, which is odd. I have also tried searching for encryption but there doesnt seem to be any relevant posts.
because i think that the device does not support it
Thanks xplode, I feared as much. One would hope that it would be possible in software, and that the wireless network layer would be upgradable via software.
Which router do you have? Most of them can be set up to allow either AES or TKIP or a combination of both...
PoGa
Poga,
I can connect to my router at home without any issues whatsoever, however it is the router at work that I can not connect to. I have no control over the authentication methods of the router, and the sysadmin will not change the protocols to suite my wireless tastes.
Ho hum
I've recently upgraded my BA to WM6, and without making any changes to my wifi router (Netgear DG834G v3), it now will NOT connect! I was and still am using WPA/TKIP security.
Previously on the original vanilla Orange SPV M2000 WM2003SE o/s it connected fine.
Interestingly, if I disable all wireless security on my router, the BA connects up just fine.
Downgrading back to WM2003SE does not restore WPA/TKIP connectivity to my router.
I've tried a couple of Helmi's WM6 roms and am currently running DVH's WM6 5.60.01 build 18548 with the same frustrating results.
All my WM6 upgrades on my HTC Tytn (SPV M3100) don't have any issues with wifi connectivity. Odd...
I'm pretty sure it's not the router as I've tried it with a 2Wire ADSL access point too and it's the same.
Any ideas guys?
Same thing is happening to me... No WPA connectivity.
No security in router and all OK
WPA on BA
Actually the devise supports it! But there are no drivers!
As I had WM5, WPA-PSK worked fine, but in WM6 it is not implemented...
Just a question, would it be possible to import and use WM5 drivers and what esle necessary, from WM5 to WM6?
In WM5 It worked OK thats right!!
Is the drivers the answer to the problem?
the drivers we use in any WM6 rom are from WM5 so it is understandable to not work quite well
here WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption is working just fine - my router is Linksys WRT54GC
AES encryption is not supported by the BA WLAN Driver
The hardware of the BA dor Wifi ins't the same as any other PDA device?
Can we copy the drivers from another device to our beloved BA?
i don't think so, if it was that easy my roms would not have wlan issues at all
nice one xplode!! dum coment

Help with WIFI on O2 Atom

I am trying to enable AES encryption on O2 atom so that I can connect to Office Lan using WPA-AES. Currently only seeing TKIP option.
By the way, I am using WM5
Can any one please help or suggest alternatives.

I have tried playing the wireless connection function of an ATOM black with a router the other day. The router is working properly which is being shared by few clients, and was set up with WPA-PSK (with either AES or TKIP); hence, I configure the ATOM black with WPA and TKIP but it kept connecting and disconnecting. Finally, I disabled the encryption with both router and ATOM and tried again. This time, the two devices talked to each other. Put the encryption back to the devices but failed the connection again. Think that WM5 is not geared up with wireless encryption. **Have not tried the OPEN, SHARED nor WPA though** --- Julian
Upgraded to WM6 still no WIFI access
Hi
Thanks for julian to try and help.
Since it was not working on WM5, i installed WM6.1 ROM on my phone using file PDAVIET_ROM_WM61_OS20755_ATOM_Sonblack.exe. Still I do not have ability to connect to my WIFI network. I see that under Network settings, even now for WPA and WPA-PSK only TKIP is listed.
Error i get is : "Network requires you a personal certificate to positively identify you"
My friend has HTC touch with same settings as mine and he can connect to WIFI. Is the O2 atom missing some modules. I find that my friend's mobile has AES encryption along with TKIP even though TKIP is being used.
How can I install WPA2 on the above ROM. That is one thing that HTC touch shows which my phone does not have as well.
Regards

I have not been following up the thread with PDAVIET WM6.1. So I cannot comment your problem.
You may want to access the following thread hope it will give you hint on your certificate problem.
Good luck,
Julian
I have the same problem anyone help?
