Importing contacts - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

The problem is ... my old cell was a Sony Ericsson Z600 - and it contains 600+ contacts in it. I can export this into CSV (or anything reasonable for that matter)...
Is there an elegant way of importing it to the XDA II (if possible without Outlook)?
Is there perhaps an application for this purpose?

You could copy them to your sim card and then back onto the xda memeory using sim manager

The SE Z600 is not really too intelligent regarding copying from it's phone memory to the SIM
There is no Pegasus DB editor with CSV import for Win32?
D.

this search give many hits about db viewers which display CSV

exporting contacts to computer...

i know this should be very simple but for some reason i just cannot figure this out..i dont use outlook btw. is there any other way to do this... im tryin to upgrade to the new 3g sim without having to manually reenter all the contacts.... anyone?
EDIT. ok so even if i have outlook on my computer, but dont use it for email, can i still use outlook to import the numbers.. then export them back to the phone?
...you can use sqb backup to backup and restore only pim contacts.
With pocketinformant2007 you can beam all your contacts out (as vcards) by BT or IR and use 'receive beam' to import them back...
hmm. i cannt even get active sync to export them using outlook now. basically im screwed?
...sorry, missed your 'edit'. Yes, that's possible...
Use the sim manager to save the contacts into TyTNs memory, then change the sim.

so sim manger >menu > save to contacts will keep the #s on my phone but also the memory card. are you sure??!
...my simcard contains only the numbers of my provider. How did you get all your numbers in, because I can only put in (200) numbers and names, by HAND. For me that isn't a possibility. Or do you've got an more up-to-data manager, i've got version 2.30.0...

Do it, then remove your sim and access your contacts. If they are there, and your sim is not on the TyTN, then your contacts are in TyTN's memory.
From now on, I would suggest you to use the internal memory of the phone, and backup with activesync + outlook, and don't store contacts on the SIM card anymore.

He wants to do it the other way round, that is puting contacts from SIM to TyTN.
...i know he wants them out of sim. I want to know how did he gets them in. Because my sim cannot contain contacts with emailadresses etc. My contactsinfo are embedded in windows\pim.vol. It would be nice to know if he can. It would be a nice place to backup when you want to perform a hard reset...
only the phone number can be stored on the sim, not the whole vcard data. Also the number of contacts you can store is very limited. I won't recommend using the sim as backup.
Anyway, if you still want to save contacts to SIM contacts try using the attached cab.
...cheers...

Importing Contacts K750i>VPA

Hi,
I have a Sony K750i and I want to import my contacts into my new phone, VPA 1605/Compact III.
The problem I face is that when I transfer from my contacts on my sim (using the VPA's built in sim manger) it creates the contacts as single entries into my contact list, for all the different classes of contacts. IE Mobile/Home/Office etc etc.
It lists my contacts as:
Mr XYZ/m
Mr XYZ/h
Mr XYZ/o
This is a pain and not much use to me.
I can however beam my contacts one by one using Infrared. It transfers the contact as a .vcf and retains the format. But that's real slow when you have lots of contacts.
I also tried bluetooth and could not transfer contacts from K750i>VPA, but could transfer contacts from VPA>K750i. hmmm? Weird! Is there a problem with bluetooth when transfering contacts?
Surely there must be a way of transfering my contacts into the VPA and keep the correct format?
Does anyone else have this problem?
What about a third party phone manager that sits on a PC and can transfer contacts?
I'm at a loss on this one.
TIA
Try Mobile Master Professional, www.mobile-master.com. It can sync the K750i with Outlook and then you can sync Outlook with your Pocket PC.
i copied all my contacts from k750i as vcf files (using fma phone manager software) then added all contacts into a zip file, sent zip file to tytn, unzipped file on tytn and saved to contacts.
that way you can get all of your contacts across in one go! simple!
hope it helps!
Thank You
Thank you for your help.
I can't find the Contacts folder on the VPA Phone.
Using the inbuilt file manager.
TIA
not sure about your phone, but on the tytn it asks if you want to save to contacts when you unzip...
Database
Hmm I get the picture..now! lol
But how do I get rid of the contacts I don't want that was created by the importing of the sim.
Apart from deleting them one at time.
I have found a couple of database editors, but can't find one for WM5
Grrrrrrrrr
EDIT - SOLUTION!
delete the pim.vol at the root and soft reset your phone. This creates a blank contacts database file. Pim.vol also stores your Appointments, so if you delete it you will loose those as well.
Hope this helps someone.
Thanks to all that helped.

it need to click on every VCF file - in a case of hundrets of contacts this would be inconvenient.
but I have found solution to synchronize W800i / K750i / D750i into Windows Mobile on Pocket PC without using Outlook, little tricky but working:
1. export Phone Book with free software MyPhoneExplorer to one CSV file
2. change header (first line) of CSV from:
Code:
"Title","First name","Last name","Mobile","Home","Work","Fax","Other","Street","Postcode","City","State","Country","Info","E-mail","Web","Company","Birthday"
to
Code:
"Title","First name","Last name","Mobile Phone","Home Phone","Business Phone","Business Fax","Home Phone 2","Home Street","Home Postal Code","Home City","Home State","Home Country","Notes","E-mail Address","Web Page","Company","Birthday"
3. rename changed CSV file to: contacts_20081003.csc (date is unimportant, but you must retain format: contacts_RRRRMMDD.csc)
4. pack it with zero compression to ZIP format
5. change ZIP's extension to *.PIB
6. download free PIM Backup 2.8 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
7. run this PIM Backup from PDA, select "Restore" and select created *.pib file
8. in CSV import settings set "," as delimiter and additionaly map "Last name" to "Name"
should work
Doesn't work for me!
Hi,
I tried tester2's method on my HTC Touch diamond 2, it seems very logical but the HTC doen't seem to comply with it; I get a lot of posts with no names! So when I open any of the posts it has a phone number etc, but I cant get the name part to work. It seems the mapping doesnt work correctly althought i did map "Name" to "Last Name".
Any ideas?
Thanx, N/

about to kill my x1 !! ! ! sim to phone contacts

does anyone know of an easy way to import all my SIM contacts into my phone.
I am using my X1 with the sbp panel (tried the shell 2.0 but didnt like it). I want to have my speed dial contacts on the 3rd pane, but I cant add photos to the sim conacts, only to the phone contacts..
instead of importing my contacts one by one, or creating new ones i was hoping there was a way to mass import them...forgive me if im being dumb!
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/522/265/1238421165/X1__UG_EN_1215_1000_3.pdf
It is written in the manual, page 7.
"SIM Manager – Manage the contacts stored on your
USIM/SIM card. You can also copy USIM/SIM contents
to Contacts in your phone."
So, use the SIM manager and the options it provides to select all contacts anc copy them to the phone.

no worries. i need to import my contacts from my phone to my sim card. need mega help
Remember that there is a limit to a) number of contacts on a SIM card and b) a limit to the amount of information "per contact" on the SIM card. When I tried it from my old Nokia (E71) to transfer contacts when I first got the DHD I basically got as list of names with phone numbers. No other information. This could be enough for you I suppose.
But why not get a basic Nokia and use it's PC Suite to sync that phone with your contacts? Presuming you have them in Outlook or Google?

the basic phone i have dun not comes with a data cable nor the port thus i can only rely on my sim card.
Try something like this .... http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.shao.Copy2SIM ... I have no idea how good that app is but there are more of a similar nature.
Dave
thanks for ur help dvhttn but unfortunately i have tried tat app, it does not work.
Does the second phone have bluetooth abilites?
Open contacts, press menu, there is a option to import/export from simcard, as simple as that
If you don't have too many contacts that you need to transfer to sim then you can open each contact individually, then press menu, then save to sim.

Seems to me that as you can't take advantage of the suggestions below that your work needs to look at this and provide you with the correct tools. If that means a new phone then they should do that. It shouldn't fall on you to provide the tools of your job.
Dave
Have you tried contact2sim (by happydroid) from the market?

How to Read/Write directly From SIM Card?

I came from the HTC desire and usually when i add a contact, it can be saved or read directly from the SIM card but i realised to read the Sim contacts in this phone, we would first have to copy it to the phone.
And the annoying thing is that when i save a new contact, i would like it to save it back to the SIM card automatically or directly.
Any apps or anywhere i can tweak?
Save contact to Phone Sim Card or Google in save settings .
Likewise import and export to sim card in settings .
