HELP! Problem with contacts --> NO GSM (XDA 2) - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

I tried solving this myself, but I can't get through!
I have this problem for a couple of weeks now. Problem is that the phone is showing to have signal, green light flashing and everything seems ok. But when people call me they get voicemail and when I call people I don't hear anything. No tone or something. I am sure that this has nothing to do with signalstrength etc. Only way to resolve is to softreset and it works again.
I hardresetted my device and everything keeps working foor a couple of days. Then I placed my contactsdatabase back and problem came back...... Then I hardresetted again and replaced a Sprite backup without my contacts and everything worked like a charm. Writing my contacts back in the database worked for about 2 days and then the problem came back again.....
I really don't know what to do about this anymore! I really have no idea what to change or what to do.
Can anyone help me with this?

You could try to:
1. HardReset it
2. Restore your contacts (doesn't matter, what will it do to your XDAII)
3. Go to: Start -> Settings -> System
4. Run "Permanent Save"
5. Select "Contacts" (it will store your contacts into \Storage now)
6. Normal Reset
7. After it fully starts, do Hard Reset again
8. Repeat step 3, 4, 5 and 6 (don't restore your contacts with Sprite Backup anymore)
Let me know, if that worked...
good luck

Thax for the reply! I'm going to do this immediately!
Thanx Mate

Buzz and all other people. Thanx for helping me!
Problem is as follows. I thought that I was the only one with the problem, but a lot of people have this.... Just wrote the same thread on a dutch forum and there were a lot of reactions to that.
I explained what I discovered. People tried the same, but some people still got the problem of loosing connectivity even when no contacts were installed. Really don't get it!
So, the phone shows that we all are connected and there is nothing wrong, but people can't call us, can't sms us and so we can't call them. And really have no reason why.... Can anyone help? For me the contacts helped me for the moment, but I don't know if this will last long.
Buzz, did you experience the same problems yourself or do you know this is a known issue for Sprite or something?
Really would like some help with this..... Could the radiomodule be broken?
Thanx in advance for helping me!

cannot receive any new SMS

hi all
i just found out that i cannot receivce any sms anymore.
this is really hard to notice if you don't KNOW that someone is sending you an sms . so i can't tell till when it did work, and when it stopped working.
anyone got the same problem before? this happened to me the second time now, and the only solution (for me) was to HARD reset the device (which is no real fun ).
any ideas?
regards ize|man
Have you, after doing a ROM install, carried out a Sprite Backup Restore?
If so, that's your problem.
Don't ask me why (just do a search on this forum for more users examples), but when you restore the SMS/Email folders as part of a Sprite Backup restore, it corrupts the sms so that notifications are not shown, and the messages are not listed/stored.
In effect, invisible sms.
So far, I've not heard a single response to any user from the peeps at Sprite about this, even though this is a common and widely known problem now. But to be fair, i don't wish to be too harsh, as I find it a life saving application. How I got round it was to run the restore option on the phone NOT the PC (as this is the only way you can do a SELECTIVE restore of items), and unticked anything relating to sms/emails.
Then I found I had a decent restored phone (albeit minus any emails/sms), but with SMS working properly.
Let me know if this might be the case with you...
@shadamere
i'm afraid you're damn right i did use sprite backup - and i did (of course) restore my sms folder and me inbox folder.
i thought about that possibility as well - but wasn't sure of course. now that you're telling me it's sprite backup i can search for that in the forum.
and, i agree with you too: it is a very important app for me as well because i like playing around with a lot of programs ans roms ect....
thanks a lot for the help
bzw: maybe this could help: i just read about a sprite backup 3.0 (though no info on the homepage so far)
regards ize|man
had the same problem...
I had the same problem; ended up having to flash the damn thing and re-install all of my applications.
I DO use Sprite Backup, but I have no idea if I had done a restore or not and whether that terminated the capability.
HELP AND ADVICE TO BOTH OF YOU THEN...
If you haven't done too much to your phone since the problem, do a HARD RESET, and then re-install Sprite Backup (the APPLICATION, not the data), onto your XDA.
Then, connect to your PC, and run the PC Service (needed for a restore if you saved the file to PC).
Now run the Sprite Backup program, ON YOUR DEVICE - this is important!
Choose the data file you have, that you wish to restore from, BUT, then go through the various options where you can tick or untick what you want to restore.
UNtick anything relating to the Email and SMS folders etc, and then start the restore process.
This SHOULD (if done properly), leave you with an XDA with all your apps, videos, photos etc etc on, and able to receive SMS messages as normal.
The only downside is that you will have lost any stored sms etc that you might have had.
But it's MUCH more preferable to an XDA with NONE of your data on at all.
Hope this advice is useful to you, and doesn't arrive too late!
Or alternatively download CleanMail from their website and run it, this requires a soft reset but cleans up the mail/sms system and it will work again.
It also deletes all existing mails.
i also had the same problem with spirate & what i do is restore without sms message & e-mail but i use spstudio to back them up, so after restoring with spirate i use sp studio & retrieve my sms's  long way but something stupid in the sms db wich i think it is due to the constant changing of the db headers that doesn't allow u to retrieve message with db u need a program that talks to the inbox only & not the db
I had this exact same problem!! I never received any SMS messages telling me that I had voicemail and I had about 10 messages and people pissed off because I never called them back! I used the tool on the Sprite website and POOF all the problems went away. I lost all of my prior messages, but not receiving SMS's was worse  !

It's a SWINE to find on the Sprite website, so here's the direct link to CleanMail for any that need it...

OK, Sprite Backup 3.0 Pre-Release now restores SMS/POP/IMAP correctly.
http://www.spritesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=971
We'll be making it the official release, depending on customer feedback obviously (its a release candidate).
Any existing backup files will need to be restored with email deselected. From then on Sprite Backup 3.0 will backup/restore email/SMS services correctly.

XDA2 Upgrade to WM2003SE - Voicemail Icon lying to me!

Hi All,
Firstly allow me to commend everyone who has helped bring the wm2003se upgrade to the Himilaya device series. As usual i was reluctant to risk my device as it is a true workhorse, but the temptation proved too strong and i went for the upgrade anyway. So far it seems to be working ok except for two things. The first is the voicemail icon that appears in the taskbar at the top of the screen. it is constantly beeping and informing me that i have a voicemail, however when i call my voicemail - nada! no messages. Hang up and get informed of a new message, one that my phone has apparently made up! The second thing is the restore feautre in activesync. After the upgrade i tried to restore a backup on my work pc, i was denied due to "backup is for an older type of device" or summit like that. Once home i tried the same proceedure on my pc there and guess what? it worked first time, only after soft resetting it only restore some items (like my docs folder) but not others like settings, progs etc. Another weird thing is that the contact harwdare button became disabled with an error message saying no mapping found, went to the buttons menu in settings and there was no option to assign the contact action to the contact button? I have since resolved most of these issues except for the voicemail thing that us really annoying me. If anyone can suggest a fix, please please do!
Cheers all
Gav

Unread SMS not even there!

Hi, my JASJAM shows an unread SMS when there is no SMS there.
Not sure how to resolve.
I have the Windows Live WM6 cooked ROM installed, what info will i lose if i hard reset?
Any ideas on how to resolve?
Maybe the Message is in the SIM card, not in the phone...
Download and install SIM Message to browse your SIM card storage:

FixUnreadCount.exe
try this WM software "FixUnreadCount.exe" just made for this problem.
thanks
thank you a million. worked a treat . . . you made my morning.
I _think_ I've had this problem before, and I believe I solved it by using PIMbackup to backup my messages and then re-import them, chosing the option to clear down messages before impot.
thanks

Thank you so much for posting that file and to whoever made it. Found it using the Google search of the forums. Messaging was showing 1 unread message in my outbox which was really annoying me, but this tool worked a treat!
Import messages from SIM to my phone
Hello,
I have an imate Jasjam. My SIM card has a few SMS messages that do not show up on my Jasjam. If I put the SIm in another phone, I can read those messages.
Any idea if there is a software that lets me copy text messages from SIm card to teh phone?
Jerry
fixunreadcount.exe didn't work for me either so here is what I did:
1) Backup using Sprite. Uncheck messages so they aren't included in the backup.
2) Hard reset the device
3) Restore using Sprite
4) Re-setup your email accounts
How to hard reset (from the wiki):
Hard Reset **NB** This cannot be performed while the device is connected/charging!**
* Press and hold both soft keys
* Using a stylus, press and hold the soft reset button at the bottom of the phone
* Keep all three buttons pressed until the keypad lights turn off and then flash
* Release the soft reset button while still pressing the soft keys
* Let go of the two soft keys once the message "This operation will delete all your personal data, to manufacturer default" appears on screen
* Finally, press the green call button to perform the hard reset, or press other key to cancel
will this work on an htc diamond? I have a pesky message that wont clear...
@willybean
I have a Sprint HTC Diamond and it's constantly showing me 1 unread email, even when there are none. I tried the FixUnreadCount.exe, did a soft reset and it didn't change a thing. It is an annoyance but I guess I can just ignore it. If you find/know of a fix tho.. love to hear it.
Thanks so very much
This worked great on my 8525. Copied the exe to the storage card, ran it and reset. Message cleared.

worked like a charm!!
Thanks dude. Worked like a charm on my Tilt2.
If your sms is in threaded mode, you should read this, if not just ignore it:
"I have met this before, the fact is you have an unread sms in some thread , and this unread sms is relatively old. You need to find this sms in a lot of thread. Or you can switch to normal sms mode, in this way it will be easier to find the unread one."
Thanks to You!
This worked GREAT!
Thanks!
Worked perfectly on my Touch Pro running WM6.5 Energy rom.
It was drivin me nuts!
Worked great!! Thanks so much!!

What Does A Hard Reset Do?

Hi Guys,
My HTC Herald is giving me some application problems - running incredibly slow, applications not working, people calling me and I am unable to answer or see who is calling but hear it ringing and typing problems so I am considering doing a Hard Reset in hopes that it restores my HTC back.
I just have some questions regarding a Hard Reset if someone could please just answer it for me, I would kindly appreciate it.
I am aware a Hard Reset resets your phone back to manufacture status, so obviously you loose anything you add on the phone since. However does it erase Messages and Contacts?
I know how to back up my contacts using Outlook on my PC, but not sure how to do it to my messages and then if it does delete it, how do I put it back on my HTC?
Finally will Hard Reseting fix its bugs?
Thanks alot in advance!
Yes, it will erase everything on your device program memory. Well to back up your contacts, messages, appointments and tasks, use the PPCPimBackup.zip. unzip it and place it on the memory stick and then run file explorer and look it up. click on it and follow the instructions. Very easy. Remember to back up on your storagecard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When your done hard resetting, use this program again to restore your contacts etc...
Hardresetting will help you resolve your problems... I do a hardreset everytime I feel the phone gets a bit on the slow side.

Call Log Doesnt Update

it still says 5/16 is the last call. today is 5-23

WOOT CALL LOG WORKS but now active sync isnt syncing my calender/tasks from google, it did it before. error 0x80004005
i have missed calls all the time and i dont know who called me, is there ANYTHING i can do to fix this
i just tried a hard reset and after everything installs it works fine but once i do a soft reset, once again it doesnt log ANY calls
so i have missed calls this morning but i dont know who or how many.
which region firmware do you have? i noticed many people mentioning quite different bugs, maybe theyre specific to certain regions. if youve tried a complete reinstall then only thing i can think of is to try and force a different regions update onto your phone...

reset to your factory setting default (clear memory then re-install OS). Don't transfer your call log from MR1. transfer only SMS and phonebook. That fixed my problem with call log.
i guess ill have to do another reset, thanks
ok what the hell active sync just delete all my contacts -
NOW i cant get active sync to work, error 0x80004005 (calendar and tasks)
Hallo! No need to update again/restore/reset!
I had the same problem and managed to get rid of it. First of all MAKE A BACKUP (please really do this, because the procedure will delete your phonebook entries) of your phonebook and your speed dials!
Open file explorer and go to the root of your device there is a file "pim.vol". Thats where your contacts, speed dial and call logs are saved. You cant delete the file, but you can rename it. Ok... so you
*) rename "pim.vol" to anything else (e.g.: pig.vol)
*) softreset the x2
*) open the telephone and dial any number and call it (you will notice, that your contacts are gone and that the new call is not logged now)
*) hang up and softreset again
now the called number should be listed. It worked for me and it always works again and again....
my problem was, that i saved my contacts with spb backup from my x1 to port it to x2 and after that i couldnt log any calls.
good luck
Hello, I had the same problem some time ago. Resolved with advanced config tools "
change the settings of "clean time of appeal" and regard calls
change the "skin phone"
soft reset, change for the original phone skin, soft reset
and make sure it works normally ... without hard reset
(automatic translate sorry :s )
Call log X"
great it worked...
