I'm using O2 XDA II.
Usually when i selected any apps shortcut for startmenu(max 9), their icon would show up instantly in Start Menu.
But now I need to soft-reset to make the apps i selected show up in start menu.
Even if the .lnk files already placed in start menu folder, it still won't show up in Start Menu until i do a soft-reset.
How to fix this?

I can't change the start menu items, I can't add shortcuts or remove shortcuts to and from start menu...I mean, the changes from editing menus did not appears immediately in start menu...
It needs soft reset to refresh the start menu...strange...
This is really weird!!! :?
for me, when I change the menu items, the changes are reflected immediately!!!
What ROM version you have?
When I hard reset my xda2, the problem was gone...but after installing many2 apps,it happens again...dunno which apps cause the problem though...my rom is 1.60.00
This also happened to me too!!!!
I think the problem is that there is a limit to the number of icons that you can have in the start menu. Adding any further shortcuts after this limit has been reached will have no effect!
I don't think so...Because I have only 5 items on my start menu...
and, I found any other problem too...the new installed apps doesn't display the shortcut in Programs Folder (start>programs), It needs soft reset to refresh the programs folder, or you can simply enter games folder and go to programs folder again to refresh it...
Gotcha!! I have found the answer for this problem...the start menu freezed and need a soft reset to refresh it when you use a theme that not fully compatible with WM2003...just use the theme that fully support WM2003 and the problems gone!
Hi,
I'm looking to create a link (.lnk) or another way to bring up the "Program", "Settings" & any other directory of .lnk files so that the programs appear in their selectable icon display format just as they do when brought up using the start button. Any ideas?
Hey guys,
I "installed" quickmenu, works great except when I want to go to Settings it states "empty". So I have to "uninstall" to get through the original startmenu to settings.
Does anyone know how I can get to settings with Quickmenu??
That's probably because your windows isn't English. I have the same problem in Polish version.
You can either tap and hold the windows logo (if you haven't disabled this option - i did), so that the classic menu shows up, or go to quickmenu options, then to commands tab. look for an entry named settings, select it and press "Create shortcut". Then place the newly created shortcut in your /windows/menu start/settings (or equivalent path in your language). Now, when you open the steeings section in quichmenu, you'll have only that shortcut in there. When you press it, another menu, this one containing actual settings will pop up.
I like the second way much more, since settings appear in a cascadable menu, not in the standard fullscreen window manner.
or go to /windows/starmenu and create there a folder called "Settings"
you will have then one empty settings folder in you native language and another working one in english
Thanks, works great..
Hey, some time ago i changed some things on my HTC HD and one of those things is my start menu. When i open the start menu i see a list of smaller icons than you see in the standard start menu. In the beginning you only see the 7 programs that you want your start menu to show. But somehow i've changed my start menu which shows the following now:
Agenda
Messages
Contacts
Internet Explorer
Notes
Telephone
-------------
//Recently opened apps
App1
App2
App3
...
-------------
Programs
Settings
Help
The problem is, is that i forgot how i did this... So i was hoping any of you could tell me how i did this.. If i get the chance all also try to add a picture of my menu and the default menu, so you get a better picture of what i mean.

Using a file explorer, you can add or delete new folders to your 'Start Menu' folder. Name them like: Web, Travel, Utilities, System and Media. Copy relevant shortcuts from you 'Programs' folder in your 'Start Menu' folder to each of these new folders. You will need to use a 3rd party file explorer to unhide system files and rom files to see the pre-installed icons to copy them to your folders. These icons are '.ink' shortcuts. Also copy the entire 'Games' folder and 'Office' folder from your 'Programs' folder direct to your 'Start Menu' folder. Finally uncheck all checked boxes in Menus in Settings page. This will allow all 9 folders to show in your Start menu on your home page, where you can access specific apps much quicker. Remember each time you install or remove a program/game, you have to either copy the new 'ink' icon to your category folder or delete it.
You can also use utility apps like HDTweak & Advanced Config to change size of Start Menu
If you go to Start/Settings/System/TouchFLO you also can change Start Menu size

Hey All,
Does anyone know how to move default start menu icons such as Camera..
Just I think the start menu looks messy
Thanks in advance,
Crafty.
if you mean how to rearrange them inside the start menu, simply tap & hold on any icon, then depending on which rom you have, you can either tap on [move to top] or actually move the icon to a new position.
or.. if you mean how to move the icon to different start menu folder, use file explorer and navigate to /windows/start menu where you can cut & paste the icons jnto different folders. if your unable to see or move the icon link files, you can use total commander, which you can find by searching these forums.
hope this helps
